Ruralshutterbug Please bookmark this page and come back. Many of us get our support here and don't visit the other site so we don't friend people when someone puts in a request. I have in the past so I do see some friends who now only use the other site like Dee and Minicooper. I must admit I rarely look at those posts because I come right to this site to give and to receive support in our quest for health.
I had my veins evaluated for varicose veins yesterday because of night leg cramps. Good news that is not the problem so no invasive surgery or any meds. Now I have to make sure I pace myself throughout the day, more stretching when I feel tension in my legs, more water, no heavy blankets on my feet at night, continue the anti-inflammatory way of eating, and passion flower for my nerves I still had some minor ones last night. Yesterday was too busy of a day. Today nothing on the schedule so I have more time to relax.
That’s what I’m here for, but I may accidentally slap your face tho. 😂5 -
Margaret what other site are you talking about.. and the picture Barbie showed you is right, they arent large at all.
Here is a picture of Siri and I she will be getting picked up to go back to the shelter to get spade and hopefully I can adopt her.5 -

Just wanted to congratulate Rita on five months sober! Very well done!
I’ve been reading but not taking notes although I would like to throw my two cents in about using ozempic for weight loss. I have a friend who is diabetic and on prescribed ozempic. She did lose weight, although not in her belly which is where she’d like to lose it from! The pharmacy she uses was unable to fill her script for two weeks as they couldn’t get any in! Needless to say, she’s not a fan of those who would use or prescribe it for weight loss.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!

Beth - glad to hear your mom is returning to her spunky self. I'm with you and Ginny in keeping our Vitamin D levels high. That is wonderful it helps your knees.
Mine is in the 60's - 67 this past fall, and Dr. Lisa and Dr. Matt say this is a great range, especially for my immune system. During the winter I take 10,000 IU per day plus 100 mcg of K2. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Vitamin K2 is gaining recognition for its effects on blood clotting, heart health and bone health.

Barbie - I was going to mention that Ozempic article, I just read it in the AARP Magazine. Glad you found it online.

I just read this article about Ozempic. It was very interesting for anyone who is considering it.
Interesting article. My sister (76) is diabetic and has been on Ozempic for just about a year. She is on a low dose and it is doing what it is intended to do re her diabetes. She has lost about 50 pounds and the weight loss appears to have leveled off. She is probably about 15 to 20 pounds overweight now and looks good. My concern for her is that she doesn't eat very much and I'm not sure she is getting enough nutrition. Her doctor is pleased with her A1C levels and she has decided to stay on it.
My SIL who is overweight and having problems walking (knee issues) tried Ozempic a few months back. She had a lot of side effects even on a low dose so only stayed on it for a couple of months then decided it was not for her. Her doctor suggested she try a different weight loss drug but she decided that is not an option for her.
The only side effect my sister had and still has is loss of appetite. She can only eat a bit of food and then feels full.

Lanette-good reminder about the k2.
Pip-interesting way to increase intensity of walk!3 -
It was a good morning... we decided to go with the vinyl plank for all the named reasons, even though it is more expensive. Because a truck wasn't necessary, I was able to go up and get all we needed. I forget how heavy those blinking boxes are... Just as I got to my Kicks, a quite small man, maybe 5'4" tall, but very solid looking, walked over and asked if I needed help loading them. What a sweetheart! People can be kind on occasion... In the store, as I was getting ten of the 35-pound boxes loaded onto a pushcart, at least six men walked past me and were quite careful to keep their backs to me, so I was pretty resigned to getting those loaded myself!
Got home after stopping for a couple small things, and my gut just completely exploded. Not fun, but not unexpected. It was what I suspected was coming this morning, after three days of relative quiet, but it gave me the morning's grace anyway. While I was gone, and then staying near the bathroom for the last few hours, Corey has been busy getting the rest of the trim put up (including the bit I laughed about earlier) and getting his kitchen area framed up with 2x4s. After that, it's floor covering and then putting furniture together! More bits and bobs of window trim after, but nothing that will prevent us using it New Year's Eve, if we get a wiggle on. I should be back in fighting form tomorrow, I hope!
For now, though, I'm going to go lie down. I'm so wiped out I can barely think.
Love y'all,
Lisa in still sunny AR

Allie it is the part of Myfitnesspal where if you friend someone you share your food journal if you are using it. It also says how many days continually you have been on Myfitnesspal. I have been on much longer than mine says. Everyone once in a while I don't log in for a day, and it starts you back at 0. There is a way to just have it count how many days you log regardless of missing a day or two, but it is not that important to me so I have not looked into how to do it.2

Kylia - I can’t believe you’re not closed again until May!
Here most small businesses close Sunday and Monday. It still gives them two days off but doesn’t interfere with the Saturday shoppers. This is common in most of the towns around.
Our province did a 10 year study of Vitamin D. Every time someone needed blood work Vit D levels were tested. It was found that we all need about 3000 IU’s per day. Because of the northern climate we can’t get enough sunlight to make it on our own.
My doctor says Vit D deficiency doesn’t make you tired it’s Vit B that does.
In saying that, I really need to get more consistent with taking mine.
Heather - lovely photo of Edie. You are all so artistic.
Barbie - I literally laughed out loud at the 12 hours working for yourself.
My FIL’s best friend told us he thinks that my FIL must have known he was ill because for about a year before he died he started talking about the Bible and God. He also wanted to hang out with his friends and do more than he had for a while.
I’m still a bit perturbed that he was sick and didn’t share with his family there is a lot of anger and blame being thrown around that wouldn’t be if he had talked.
Annie - the new year needs to see me take better care of myself too.
Machka - I agree about the emails from companies. There are just too many!
Kelly - I always try to give handmade gifts, if I don’t make it myself I try to purchase from local crafters for most people. For my immediate family I do buy “stuff”, but try to limit it.
DH used to buy me jewelry, lingerie, clothes. I don’t know why he stopped. I miss the romantic in him.
I hope you feel better soon. I also hope you soon get some time off without getting sick.
I understand your foot pain, I am struggling terribly with plantar fasciitis right now. I can’t seem to get it under control. I did order a couple of things off Amazon that are supposed to arrive today, I’m hoping they help.
Beth - it’s great your Mom is coming around, hopefully she can return to her home soon.
Rosemarie - I think bringing yellow into the home is a great way of honouring your husband.
My husband and his Dad are/were huge Toronto Maple Leaf fans. I never really let DH put anything out though. This year we put up Leaf Christmas lights to honour his Dad.
I assume this will now be a tradition.
Allie - I thought you were allergic to cats?
Lisa - so sorry that your tummy decided to be miserable today. I hope you are able to enjoy a nice New Years Eve.
I finished the 3 jewelry frames. I have a lot of respect for anyone that does these regularly!
There isn’t a lot of fabric left to do anything with. As I said she was a very tiny woman.
The top one is my youngest daughter’s, she loves leaves and nature. The little white “flowers” in all of them are from my wedding dress and the green “balls” are the buttons from Grammie’s dress. The one with the buckle tree topper is my eldest daughter’s. The beads around the edge were my favourite of Grammie’s to play with. They were pop beads. You could pull them apart and put them together in many lengths.
The one with the “wreath” type pin is a pin my parents bought for her when I was young. It is my Mom, Dad, sister (she was stillborn), mine and my brother’s birthstones.
I will deliver these over the next couple of days so when they take Christmas down they can pack them away.

Tracey-the jewelry frames are beautiful. I would be tempted to keep something that meaningful out all year long. It sounds like your province at least is paying more attention to things than are explored by mainstream medicine in US. I agree low B can make you tired-but when my D dropped to 10 I had extreme body aches and exhaustion. Some of that for me could be the interactions with the thyroid issues. I agree-we must remain diligent in taking stuff.
Lisa-good to know there are people out there who will still offer to help. I help people get some things off shelves at stores (I have discovered that 5'6 gives me better reach than 5'2. I have also been know to help those who can't find things after stores move them on a weekly basis. I am happy for you that you made it home before your system came to life.
Regarding Ozempic and other such medicines, I have friends who are diabetic and they are the only thing that is helping and they have trouble getting it here due to the weight loss use. One of my staff is losing some weight with it (she says she get full sooner) but she does intentionally try to make healthy choices. Her a1c is showing great improvement with the combination. The article Barbie shared makes some very valid points.
KJ and Tracey-I don't know if it would work for you, but the physical therapist used dry needling on my extremely painful foot (arthritis and other stuff-lots of tight tendons and plantar fasciitis, etc.). He put the needles in specific places of tenderness/tension. It is like everything relaxed. I am still getting some arthritis pain but I don't have all of the other stuff aggravating it. Worth a try if you can find a provider. And he additionally has me doing additional stretches.
Have gotten small things done today. Changed some of the bills over to using a credit card for payment instead of linking my bank account. Balanced check book, paid bills, got washing done (basket of ironing sitting beside me. Got shrimp ring out of freezer (I like it on New Year's Eve). Dishwasher loaded and waiting for my dinner dishes then I will run it. Little things add up. Also got in a two mile walk (I did NOT carry any animals!) and a 30 minute stretching session.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio7 -
Allie: Wow! Miles is turning 2! I have really enjoyed the pictures of him and his delight in life! It seems as if he has adapted to day care...is that the case.
Barbie: Thank you so much for the picture. I admit it does not look very difficult. I have a ramp in my garage and was hoping to use the other half to store furniture for my son. But the cord looks pretty long and maybe I could pull the car up to the garage.
Rita: 5 months sober! What a great way to start the New Year!
Lisa: I hope you feel better!
Tracey: I love the jewlery frames.
Thank you all for your thoughts on Vitamin D. I have moved its location so I will take it every day. I will do some research myself. The doctor didn't take it seriously enough because she had seen even lower levels. Because she treated it lightly, I treated it lightly.
I came home from visiting my friend and had a good lunch with her. I didn't sit during the football game. I did walking videos and lifted some weights. I am pretty pleased with this!
I have found on u tube videos by Caroline Girvan who has 10 minute leg workouts/Lunges at Home work out. These are very good and I hope to do them most days.
I have a Planet Fitness membership for 10 dollars a month and need to go more. I also have a membership on pause to a gym which is very popular in town and has a walking track. But I have come to feel that walking without some type of resistance exercise is not enough. I need resistance. I need to maintain muscle.
Silver Sneakers is very popular at this gym but I can still work out a little more than Silver Sneakers provides....that is if I continue to work out! And then of course some of the other classes I could join, but I would have to adapt the exercises. I wouldn't be able to keep the pace.
I was doing one class before Covid and we were suppose to sit on a round ball. I don't have the balance for that. I did do some cycling and of course can't keep the pace but if you sit in the back no one really cares. I could go back to this!
Happy New Year!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Couple hours' nap, one last visit to the littlest room and I'm feeling now I might survive... just a night for sipping tea, I'm afraid, but that's OK.
Tracey - I LOVE those pieces made with your grandmother's dress, they turned out absolutely beautiful. I was bouncing around the idea of doing something similar with my wedding dress, and giving them to my son and daughter. Corey thinks I ought to leave it intact and donate it, so someone else would have the opportunity to wear it. Still thinking.
Annie - You stay on my mind, my chicken. Letting things go will be least painful, and in the end, your mother's service will happen, and you will be able to say goodbye. The rest will be a memory, no more. Many hugs, my dear...
Rita - Well done on the 5 months alcohol-free! Sorry I missed it when you said it.
Rosemarie - You are such a lovely optimist, dear heart, your success in the healthy changes you're making will grow from that ability to see the bright side.
Allie - Those pictures of Miles are so charming. How are you dealing with that allergy to Siri?
Debbie - I write things down to say to you, and then I delete them. No advice from me, dear. Only you can change the situation, and only you will know when and if you're ready.
While I was out cold for my nap, Corey framed out his outdoor kitchen. Tomorrow will be flooring and, if there is anything left over in terms of energy, we'll start putting the furniture together. Would love to be sitting on the couch for New Year's Eve, not that we will probably stay up that long! We won't start until Corey's up and gets the propane tanks filled, though... Hope it's a good night or day for all.
Love,

The picture of Siri was cropped so it was bigger, she is long and thin...
Tried watching All Creatures last season now and forgot there was animals on there..
Had to turn it off..oh well..3 -
A friend who owned her own business said, "Working for yourself if great. You only have to work half days and you get to decide which 12 hours that will be."
I have been self employed for pretty much all my adult life(I have taught at a few preschools/daycares but mostly my own) and I always say, "they are LONG hours, but they are MY hours". Yes, I was working 55hrs a week for just over 5 yrs with the triplets, starting when they were 3 months old(and they were premies). The part of working for myself was, I took my lunch when I wanted and how long I wanted, if the babies didn't need anything. I got breaks when they took naps. It was very important that they took naps or at least rested, even up until they were 5 1/2yrs old- They didn't have to nap BUT they did have to lay down and rest. They could watch Disney channel or read a book quietly but they need a break and so did I . Nap time has always been a priority for me in the 40+yrs of doing this.3 -

That's a problem here too! So many people were using it for weight loss that people with diabetes who really needed it couldn't get it.

Neighbors are starting to celebrate a bit early- fireworks are already going off a day early.
Feel like I am starting to catch a cold or something- coughing and starting to wheeze a bit so will pull out the nebulizer this evening- want to catch it before it gets too bad. Don't want to wait and end up on that machine for weeks at a time like what happens most winters with treatments every 4 hours every day.
Went and did shopping with dh- he was in a decent mood which was a nice change. Wasn't really feeling like shopping but pushed through.
Stopped at Fuddruckers for lunch
got the fried chicken sandwich on lettuce instead of bun- w/ water and just the "sandwich" not the meal. Glad they have an amazing condiment bar there.
Shopped for MIL and a little for us.
Dinner for tomorrow night is planned out- Fresh Dungenous crab for cocktails or on salad or just to enjoy plus a big pot of seafood won ton soup.
I may be the only one up at midnight. Both son and dh have to work early Monday morning. Dh has to be at work at 4, son leaves here at 5:30
Tried something new yesterday and really enjoyed it and will make it again soon. Simple sliced lotus root and little brown mushrooms, sauteed in oyster sauce and water until the lotus root was cooked. Had that with grilled salmon, Delecate squash ,rice and furikake(seaweed)
Dh ate a few hours later- he really liked the lotus root too.
