Worked then soup kitchen. Home to make an apple crumble for Sunday (I’ll just keep it in the fridge.
Will go into work late tomorrow. They say that the delivery is usually around 11, so I figure starting 11:30 I’ll keep texting the manager to see if it came yet. I do have to lector so I would need to leave by 3:30 so I can change. One time before they didn’t order enough and the manager asked me if I could come at 11. That time I said “the soup kitchen starts serving at 11:30” which is true. But also a part of me felt “failure to prepare on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”. But this time the truck is coming later because of the holiday. They don’t have control over that. Well...they could have ordered extra knowing that there wouldn’t be enough for me for Sat. Next year I’ll remind them to order extra.
M - Where I work, it's about teamwork ... not about winners and losers. We all play an important part. I’m talking children, not adults
We're all vital little pieces of the puzzle. That’s how it is in every company
In many places of employment, if you're someone who shows up regularly and participates, you're an ideal employee! But the boss still expects the work done.
One of the things that really appealed to me about randonneuring/audax (the type of cycling I've been involved in since 2001) is that everyone who finishes the event within the time limit is a winner ... not just the fastest. The challenge is within yourself and with things like your own equipment, the environment, the terrain, etc. ... not against other people. It means that other people can be supportive and encouraging. I’m talking work not leisure
Tracey – I agree with you in that children should learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them. Unfortunately, not all children learn this. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly appreciate the fact that Colby gave me something he thought I’d like. I just don’t know when I’d ever use it. I also think your grandmother would approve of your decision about her dress. It IS lovely, but your proposed use of it sounds like the best way to go. It’s unfortunate no one can fit into it, but these things happen
Barbara – fosamax is also a biphosonate drug with the possibility of osteonecrosis of the jaw. Hmmmmm….. I agree that we all need to do for ourselves what we are comfortable with. Tooth YEAR….lol
Flea – believe it or not, I’ve never heard of xgeva. My injection is once every 6 months. I know reclast is an infusion once/year
Annie – thinking of you
Hey, just thought of something...going into BK later means that I’ll be able to exercise and take my walk. YEEEAAAAA
Rosemarie – funny, we were just talking about hybrids (I don’t own one) and the fact that when we drive to FL, we wouldn’t have to wait hours and hours while the car recharges. It seems a lot of people are finding hybrids a good alternative to an all electric vehicle
Allie – proof that God made puddles for one reason – to be jumped in.

Hi Gals,
Christmas decorations – I put outside lights up in Nov. BUT don’t light them until 12/1. I get a fresh tree (maybe not next year) so don’t put it up until the 2nd weekend of December and usually take it down the week after new years, as by then it is drying out and is a hazard. Inside non-tree decorations are put up between 12/1 and the tree going up. Everything inside comes down at the same time. The outside lights I may leave a week or two longer, as the darkness of winter is so dreary the lights are a cheerful sight.
Gifts for whatever occasion – the ones I give can be either wants or needs, I prefer to shop from a list provided by the person, but I am also known to listen and take notes all year round on ideas for the folks I do gifts for. I most often put things on my wish list that are closer to need than want. So this year I had waterproof boots (my old ones had given up and could not be repaired – I was making due with my fabric sneakers with double plastic bags over my socks. It works, so not really a need, but I love not having to do the bag system. Good news I did get them. LOL I just went back to my list and the most want leaning item was a battery charger – so I did not have to buy batteries over and over again – and I got that too. I really think this want vs need gifting is tied to the finances of the recipient if they can afford their needs – wants is the way to go, if affording their needs is hard, than a need is a gift that is treasured every time it is used.
Annie – thinking of you. Sending hugs!
Lisa, Machka, and others – short vacation time in the us…. My last employer started you with 3 holidays, 3 sick days, and 5 days of vacation. At 5 years of service you got 1 more holiday (your birthday) and 1 more vacation day, every 5 years after that you added one more vacation day…. It was ridiculous! We all hated it… and voted for a union at about my 4th year working there, I got laid off during my 5th year.
Margaret – good job being DH’s medical advocate!
Pictures Pictures Pictures ! Love them one and all.
Tracey – I love the idea of using Grandma’s wedding dress, but also thought it would be a neat idea to on the back of the wall hanging you are making to put a copy of the pictures (the dress and them) with a little write up of the story. Then the history will not be lost as the wall hanging is passed down.
Lisa – love the sunroom! And yes I agree wood like flooring could be a bit much, I have seen the vinyl in a brick look, which would add to the “sunroom”- greenhouse theme… Very fun that John and gal friend will be a couple of hours away… far enough to call first, close enough to see monthly – and just for dinner LOL! Having skills in the “trades” is always good!!!
Beth – so sorry to hear about your mom…. Hope things are looking up.
Well – now I am caught up on you all, but still need to share my holiday time adventure…. More to come.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

Heather - thank you. Yes this Grandmother was one of my best friends. I miss her so. I grew up right beside her.
A couple of years ago after my family telling me that I did too much for my Grands I told them that she was my role model as a grandmother and I would never do less than she did for me. They’ve all pretty much kept quiet on that subject now and DH has now said she would be proud of who I’ve become. He couldn’t have given me a nicer compliment.
Machka - my cousin said her limbs felt like dead weight with Covid. She thinks her and her DH just had it again, but still invited her son and family for Christmas. SMH I hope they all don’t end up sick although she’s pretty sure she got it from them.
Kylia - is Memorial Day in the States in February?
Annie - I wrote a eulogy for my Dad, my grandmother and my Father in Law.
My Grandmother and I wrote letters back and forth she signed her “Your #1 Grandmother” and I signed mine “Your #1 Granddaughter” (I was her only granddaughter) so for hers I wrote a letter to her telling her how much she meant to me. My youngest daughter read it for me.
My Dad’s I can’t remember right now, I think my daughter read it as well.
My FIL I gave the history of him and his immediate family, where he grew up, his parents, how much he loved his family. My youngest and our youngest niece read one for the grandchildren and great grandchildren and a family friend read one to represent the children.
I think every eulogy is specific to the person and can be whatever you want it to be. I think there are some funerals I’ve attended where there were no eulogies whatsoever.
Hugs to you.
Lisa - I have been thinking about sheet vinyl as flooring for our kitchen area. We do have vinyl plank in the bathroom and really like it. Ours looks like wood. I’m hoping sometime this year to be able to get flooring done.
I keep trying to get my daughter to do something in the trades. I think she would like it because a lot of it is working alone.
Rosemarie - I look pregnant too most of the time. I really need to get into shape before May.
I need to get my foot pain under control before doing anything.
Debbie - my heart hurts for you and your DH. He may need to just walk away from her. No one would blame him.
I took Jonah home today.
That kid just cracks me up.
I had a Hallmark Christmas movie on.
He asks why we’re watching it.
He then goes on to tell me, before I can answer, that they are all the same.
Girl gets fired or is about to be fired from her job. Has to move back home to Merrysville, USA and runs into her forever love, they make cookies, light a tree and bing, bang, boom they’re getting married.
He’s not wrong, but the funny part is they don’t have cable at home and his Mother won’t watch these. Apparently according to his Mother he learns it all from memes. 😂
I have the dress cut and the designs laid out, I should have the pictures done tomorrow

I am so glad I had my deviated septum corrected! I have been producing buckets of snot, but I can still breathe! 😤🤢
We had a bag of pears we had to use up, and I've discovered that ripe pears with a scoop of our own honey is a really nice treat that goes down well and leaves my throat feeling smooth rather than scratchy and dry.
We have not been eating much ... I've gone completely off coffee and tea and most of our usual meals. Most things just don't appeal.

Today’s gratitude: 12/29 for the internet and the ability to research medical practitioners it gives. ;}
Still searching for a word for 2024, maybe “Strengthen”? My body, heart, mind and spirit?
Lutheran Ladies’ grief casserole successful. Many complements and went back for seconds. Grieving family took leftovers. TB suggested we adapt for hungry people casserole-a-thons. I am content.
Machka your “genetic pre-disposition to clotting”, family history or some kind of ?DNA? test?
Ginny “…I think we each need to balance our own risks.” That’s why I’m inclined to let the bones go to avoid the clots/stroke/breast cancer. Sorry to hear your workload will soon increase even more. How’s that retirement date looking?
Annie imho letting the dozen do their two minutes each would give a well rounded view of your mom, and take the pressure off from you.
Margaret “…yes to those that help me feel stronger…” This really resonated with me. Thank you!
Lisa had a strange notion, have you considered artificial turf for flooring the sun room? Really like Kim’s “brick” or slate look idea.
Rosemarie like you all my weight is in my belly. I’ve looked pregnant since I was a little child :P
Allie one time while driving through Burns OR, we saw a man in the crosswalk, starkers !
Vicki enjoy your days off and lone time.
Rita well done. I’ve gone with Joe to one appointment, but he resists having me along. . .
Heather sure hope your jelly like legs are not Machka’s Covid. :noway:
Debbie prayers, hugs and more prayers. Saying this with love, but have you considered counseling for yourself? You’re going to need it if he follows through with his threats of self-harm. More prayers and more hugs.HUGS as I think each of us could use one or even two!
We are here for each other. Remember to reach out as needed regardless of what you are going through. YOU are NOT ALONE!
Love you all,
Kylia in Ohio grateful for my lady friends
Michele “…..going into BK later means that I’ll be able to exercise and take my walk. YEEEAAAAA…” Now THAT’s an attitude I’d like to cultivate. Thanks!
Kim “gifting is tied to the finances of the recipient if they can afford their needs – wants is the way to go, if affording their needs is hard, than a need is a gift that is treasured every time it is used.” So very very well said. ((hugs))
Tracey give Rodger a hug for me. That was a wonderfully nice compliment. “Memorial day in the states in February? Nope. Last Monday in May. Poor Kylia, doesn’t get President’s day (February) or Good Friday (March/April) off. The price of family-owned small businesses.12/29: Move: ZERO sets PT Steps:5650Later, lighter, lovelies!

Hello everyone,
My name is Alison, mid 60s and I live in country Victoria, Australia.
I've come back to here to copy previous success after a long absence dealing with life's challenges.
Logging every day, interacting with other like minded ladies and supporting others does me and others so much good.
Is anyone willing to 'friend' me please?
I'll cheer you on, be your backstop add celebrate your successes.8 -
Rosemarie-I would (and have) felt horrible with vitamin D at 24-that is barely at the acceptable level. I have had mine plummet to 10 and felt truly miserable. If it is running low that may be part of your fatigue. With my thyroid issues my goal is to keep it closer to 50. Vitamin D has been ignored by many in the medical profession.
Michelle-regarding the tea infuser-I love brewing loose leaf tea. I find the flavors to be richer, I can control the intensity and I avoid the plastics in the tea bags. Maybe get a small pack of loose leaf and give it a try.
Barbara AHMOD-retirement date is looking good. Making schedule this weekend to prioritize items for completion (or nearly so). Am also making arrangements to see cottages they are building at my preferred complex. They have one bed with den or two bedroom and both have attached garage. You still get to use all amenities and can have a varied meal plan option.
Regarding holidays, etc.-I work for government. We get all of the federal holidays (11 of them now), in addition to day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve). People start earning two weeks vacation per year and can keep three years worth on the books. 15 days sick leave. I accrue 5 weeks vacation a year and have close to 15 weeks banked (I will get paid out at current hourly rate when I retire for that and 1/4 of sick leave up to 240 hours-planning a nice family vacation). The historical view has been that since government doesn't make a profit and your can't always match private sector wages, other benefits are given to balance it out.
Off to balance checkbook (it is Saturday and I got a bit lax over holidays). Special cleaning effort this weekend-I always like to start the New Year with a really clean house. I actually slept the last couple of nights and feel a bit energetic!
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio6 -
Machka your “genetic pre-disposition to clotting”, family history or some kind of ?DNA? test?
When I developed the blood clots in my left leg in 2009 (hospitalised 2 weeks because the left leg was full of clots), the doctor ran a number of blood tests on me and discovered that I am homozygous for the genetic mutation Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) (C677T) … meaning that both of my parents contributed to this mutation.
Homozygotes (like me) for the mutation have an increased risk of thromboembolism (blood clots) as well as premature vascular disease (and I've also been diagnosed with venous insufficiency in my left leg where I had the clots).
In addition, at the time in 2009, I was also shown to have high levels of homocysteine in my blood, although subsequently that has come down.
https://www.healthline.com/health/mthfr-gene
MTHFR is very likely the cause of the clots and could also be why I never carried a child to term.Annie imho letting the dozen do their two minutes each would give a well rounded view of your mom, and take the pressure off from you.

I think that's more or less what they did for my grandmother's service. Various one stood up and spoke. I sent in something I had written and I think my father read it (unfortunately, I couldn't be there).

Good morning ladies!
I'm getting closer to just letting go of the eulogy and the whole service. Let it be whatever the minister creates. My mother preferred to work in the kitchen getting coffee hour ready rather than attend services.
I found a black knit cardigan/jacket to wear, with black trousers and a light blue sweater. When I say I found, I mean on Amazon. I'm still thinking about it, but I better be quick if I have to hem the trousers and shorten the sleeves.
We keep going back and forth with the lawyer about the will. We don't have a copy or the original. They keep saying look harder. It doesn't much matter because everything goes to my dad, who is co-owner on everything anyway. She had no sole property. So they want us to get a locksmith to open the one locked file we have. Not gonna happen during the holidays. Maybe next week.
Hugs to you Debbie! A hard situation.

Good Saturday!
Small business equals limited close dates. We generally close New years Day, Memorial day (May), Fourth of July, Labor Day (Sept), Thanksgiving (Nov), and Christmas day. We did take the extra day at Christmas this year which was awesome. We have no real policy on sick days or vacation days, though generally 1 week vacation for first 5 years, then 2 weeks after that. Not strictly enforced, but then again all but one have been there for over 25 yrs. The one is hourly, been there about two years, still gets 1 week paid vacation and reasonable sick days. If excessive days off, no pay. We usually do half day on July 3rd (firework festivities start around 6 pm), Christmas eve, and New year's eve. I am very aware of times I take off whether long weekend, or just a few hours. I don't want to take advantage, but with all the extra hours I do put in especially during spring/summer season, I usually still have "hours" I could use. Fall and winter I rarely work from home except for training and spring orders. Those are easier to do uninterrupted. SIL usually not there the day before or the day after holidays unless I am gone.
Have a little running to do this afternoon after work. Tomorrow will take down trees and the other lights. Hoping to get some more cleaning done as well. It is nice sitting in clean living room. Worked on cross-stitch again last night. It has been nice relaxing after kitchen cleaned from dinner. Suppose to go to friend's house tomorrow evening. Will most likely be home well before midnight.
Am working on word and expectations for 2024.
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio where it is spitting and will be grey again. I really don't mind the cold as much as I dislike the grey!5 -
Girls here. Bea and I did an experiment I found on Instagram. Didn't turn out anything like the reel, but we liked them anyway! Edie then copied us. Then she attempted to dry another painting and set fire to it!!!
It's fun chaos.
I then took a photo of her, painting, and I've made a pencil sketch and will try to paint it. Not easy.
Serving lunch in a minute.

A friend who owned her own business said, "Working for yourself if great. You only have to work half days and you get to decide which 12 hours that will be."6

Barbie Lol!
I bought the black trousers. But I'm waiting on the tops. So sad Amazon thinks I'm still a large, but I've popped back up to extra large. The New Year will definitely hold a weight loss challenge for me. But meanwhile I want to be realistic about comfort during this funeral.

Yeah, I much prefer working for the government down here rather than having my own business and/or working in North America.
I'm on 18 days leave for Christmas:
4 days of annual leave
3 weekends (6 days)
3 statutory holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day)
3 extra days of leave because they agreed to that in the most recent salary package ... that's for Dec 27, 28, and 29)
and 2 of my usual Fridays off.
Now, my annual leave days are 3 days next week and the 8th. If I am still sick on those days (and possibly even if I'm not), I may be able to trade my annual leave days for sick leave days. I'd like that and will ask about it because I have something in the neighbourhood of 50+ sick leave days available. I'd prefer to use the sick leave days rather than annual leave if possible.
Meanwhile today, I managed to put my laundry away so I am temporarily caught up with my clothing laundry.
I've also been working my way through emails. Since I got back from Canada, I was struggling to get my emails below 100 in my Inbox. Normally, there's about 25 in my Inbox that I need to address. By the time my Christmas break started, I'd given up the battle and there were close to 200 in my Inbox. I'm back down to 25 now. And I've stopped the delivery of quite a few.
I'd be fine of companies wanted to send me the occasional email, but they seem to want to spam a person all the time.
I signed up for a Carer's magazine delivered by email. I thought it would come once a month. Gradually the emails started coming in more and more and more until, during this break, I tracked how frequently they were coming. Every other day I was getting an email announcing that there was a new article in the Carer's magazine. I shut it down.
Same with Amazon ... they've got to send 152 emails each time you look at the site!! Shut that one down too.
My Inbox has been a ghost town! It's wonderful! I had started losing important emails in the onslaught of unimportant rubbish.

These are mine and Bea's 'experiments '. It didn't look anything like the instructions, because we didn't have watercolour inks, but we had a lot of watery, messy, fun.
My son will be picking them up in half an hour.

This is John's design. I love it. I can see it on a scarf.
Bea's and mine could be rugs.
