Finally got flight info from youngest sailor, woohoo! 💖 Of course we will be picking him up close to midnight but what the heck, least the traffic to Sea-Tac airport to and from won't be horrendous.
Now to hear from eldest!
Last night late we got a call from his moving company. Evidently they have been trying to get a hold of him involving pack out dates etc. We are his legal contact info so they called here. Hope whatever it is, gets resolved. Unnerving though.

I have realized that I lost all muscle in my thighs. No stairs or hills here so lost all muscle. I can’t stand from the floor without holding on something to pull myself up. So AARP recommends that if there is only 1 exercise you have time for, do knee bends. I found the thread on here that I had started a long time ago, so hopefully, I’ll get the ambition to start that. I’ve been pretty out of it lately so going to start slow. The MFP thread is called “50 Plus Squats Challenge” if anyone wants to join me. The spoiler has the AARP article. Of course I can start today but not tomorrow, perhaps longer, due to recovery. I’ll as doc.
Week 1 Day 1 is:
Warmup 5 minutes (just stretching legs)
5 squats
Rest 60 seconds
6 squats
Rest 60 seconds
5 squats
Rest 60 seconds
6 squats
Rest 60 seconds
5 squats
DONE 27 squats!
The AARP article spells out how people of our age should do them without hurting ourselves.
Here is what the MFP thread looks like: (if anyone is interested.)

John went and got his photos done. He had to have 7 tries at it. The limit is 10!!! No collar, centre of the screen, etc etc. They give you four physical photos and a digital code you have to use within one month if you are applying online. I may go on Thursday. We both are doing an online renewal.
I had thought I was OK for this year, but with Brexit the rules have changed, so I need it for the next cruise, even though the passport says May 25. Soooo annoying.
I used my extra time at Waitrose by going to the pharmacy.
Here we are at my son's house with John playing board games with Bea. I hope my son will take us home later as my legs only just made it back from the school. I must phone the hospital to see where I am on the waiting list.

Rita that sounds like a great idea but I can't start at 27 squats! Maybe eight. Hmm.

I’ve updated the challenge thread. I did 10, rested, 10 more today holding on to the counter. Just doing that, I felt it! This is what the AARP article suggested we start with. If you rest for a minutes between each set, it’s not so bad, but starting that next week after my recovery so I don’t mess anything up!

Debbie ... I, too, learned the hard way about not microwaving hard boiled eggs! Sorry you got a steam burn ...
Rebecca ... your eldest in that Renaissance photo looks like you!
Vicki ... I hope your co-worker will be alright. Like Ginny, I was wondering how she didn't realize she was missing a shoe. But then I remembered my husband can't feel his feet with his neuropathy ...
Barbara ... good luck with your MOHs surgery!
Squats ... I used to love doing them ... my knees now protest ...
Annie ... it sounds to me like dementia is the cause of your father's behavior. I'm watching my mom say and do things that don't make sense. Also, infection can worsen the effects of dementia. After a particularly difficult few days with my mom, we now know she has a UTI and she will be starting antibiotics. I expect she'll settle back into her more "normal" self in a few days. Hugs.
Had my 6 month visit with my primary care doctor. Blood work all good. Glucose floats around on the higher end of normal but A1C is good. Weight was the same as in July and I'm not happy with that. Of course, I've been eating a ton of cheese and crackers! At least it wasn't a gain ... I attribute that to time-restricted eating ... it could be so much worse if I ate all day.
It is snowing near Buffalo but expected to turn into rain. I'm hoping the snow pack doesn't cause issues with the rain ...

Hello, my chickens,
No sunshine coming until next Sunday... you would think it was wintertime in Arkansas or something! The rain is starting again shortly.
Tina - I'm pretty attached to the furry little troll. That much attitude in one small body is both fun and continually fascinating. I can't imagine ever living without a cat again, she brings so much to every day.
Heather in Alberta - Welcome! You're one of several Albertans who participate in the thread. Drop into any conversation that appeals, there are always a few going on...
I'm getting lots of steps in today, but mostly just between the living room and the bathroom, unfortunately. Some days are good, some just aren't... and this too will pass. (Bad pun, sorry.) . I swear, I think my gut waits until Corey goes back to work before it decides to start working at high speed. Polite, but the outcomes are exhausting.
Watching assorted streaming TV, crocheting, running back and forth. At least the weather, while awful, is warmer... I much appreciate it. I was able to get outside in a raincoat long enough to walk the garbage down and snag the mail. Better than nothing...
Later y'all,
Love ya,

About goals, James Clear says that goals won't bring success, that what is needed is systems. There is no finish line After losing a bunch of weight, the next step is to keep doing what you've been doing. The real goal is to build systems that will support a new lifestyle.
Lanette, I listened to the video about walking 20,000 steps a day while I was walking this morning. She makes some good points about walking while doing other things (treadmill desk, and walking while watching TV) It's important to note that she didn't mention having a family.

Home agajn!
In the car coming home we were with Edie, on her way to football training.
She told us that she has decided, all by herself, to do a half Iron Man in the Easter Holidays. She is going to take a week to do it.
So, she will do a 2k swim, which she can do in one go, as she regularly swims that far in training. 22k run, she is breaking down to two 5k Parkruns, plus a 12k walk, which John will do with her. Then it's a 40k+ bike ride which she will sort out. She is doing it for charity for the local Brighton Women's Centre, which helps abused wives and other vulnerable women. She is hoping to get publicity on the local news media.
She has thought all this up by herself!
We are watching Vera tonight, recorded on Sunday.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
So we started talking about abuse in the car and my son was telling us about the time he took Edie to the hospital because she had leapt from one chair to another and landed on her nose. The staff were very suspicious and closely questioned her, and asked if he had a social worker.

Barbie my sister walks 10,000 steps a day often as family time. She has taught herself to walk indoors while video chatting with her children and grandchildren and sometimes her husband. Interesting blend of priorities.

It is rainy here too. Not sure about freezing (haven't been out yet). It did stay above freezing last night so am hoping! Ginny be careful! After a year of low precipitation, we are catching up fast! Stay safe ALL of you!
Chiropractor and massage yesterday. Body feeling it this morning! Head hurts, but most likely need to up water and electrolytes. Could be the rain.....Slept like a LOG! Not rested though.
Lisa I am with you on showers. It is just troublesome. Lol! I do get them at minimum every other day, but they seem like a hassle. I am thankful that DH and masseuse don't care about hairy legs! I am in jeans so much that I rarely do that chore unless wearing a dress. Masseuse just doesn't like the prickly stage-lol! DH however doesn't function without a daily shower.
Rebecca I think you look lovely in your shawl. I love mine!
Rita Congratulations on 6 months! That is awesome.
Hope I think we all have those days when we just aren't hungry mixed in with the ones that make us feel like nothing is filling us up. Protein has helped me level out most days. Remember that each decision is a fresh chance to make change.
Vicki I am guessing coworker is diabetic? DH's uncle was and didn't realize that he had crushed his foot with a piece of wood until he took his boots off a few hours later! Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Went to whole foods last night as it was closest to another errand I had to run after massage last night. We were out of milk, romaine, and yogurt. I really like Trader Joe's yogurt, but too far in wrong direction at 8 pm. Hopefully the one I bought "Brown Cow" is okay. Picked up eggs and block cheese while there. We will see....I did remember the milk-lol!
Barrett-Jackson starts on TV tonight. Still a yearly tradition for DH and I. May need to walk while watching.
Better get myself in gear for work. Ugh....too many days not hitting mini goals. Today is the day to get back in the saddle.
Healing thoughts for those ill or hurt.
Hugs to all just because
Cheering you all on!
Stay as dry as possible this week.
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio joining most of you in wet weather
Sometimes I fold mine in a large triangle for my shoulders, and sometimes I just fold over a corner and drape over my whole self.😁. I think everyone should own a shawl🤗.

I have a sarong which I use as a blanket when I am sitting in my comfy chair. It's great! It's light so I don't get too hot but if I feel slightly chilly (we keep our home quite cool) it is just enough to make me comfortable.

My husband and I stopped by one of our local post office outlets yesterday and got his done. The girl who did them was great ... took her time and got a good picture. He got his copies and one digital. $21.

Got to water exercise again today after 2 weeks of not going for various reasons like dryer deliveries, septic problems and weather. It was lovely to be back in the water. After that I went to the podiatrist as my ankle has been painful. Found out I have tendonitis. He prescribed anti-inflammatories, ice, rest and new inserts for shoes. I go back in 1 month.
We actually had a very nice day today. Sorry for all of you battling bad weather. Please be safe.
Rita - no fresh rhubarb here but my bluebells have started coming up.

I am OFFICIALLY a California resident again! Finally got my California license in the mail, kirby already had his. My Washington license didn’t expire until 2025 so I was lagging, then dealing with all my name changes (4 marriages) was a cluster f$&@:k
in itself. I hate pictures and this one is no different but at least it’s done!!!!6 -
Today is supposed to reach 29c and I can almost believe it. But it will likely only be for a few minutes at about 2:30 pm.
We've had several cold summer days in a row till today.
Still working from home. Still wrestling with my database and code.
Regarding walking and exercise in general ... I miss it!!! I haven't had the breathing ability to do anything for a month now. But I will pick up my new inhaler today and hopefully that will help.
Regarding weight ... I am the Queen of Maintenance. I get to a certain weight and stay there for months at a time. I just wish it were 4 kg lower (first goal).
Regarding goals ... I am goal motivated. I like having walking and cycling and running goals to work toward each month and year. I like having education goals, goals for the house and garden, etc. Goals motivate me and give me the feeling of achievement I need to keep going.
Oh and if my husband liked rhubarb, it would be growing here!

I just got an email from my friend in Switzerland who was to have the operation this Fri to remove the tumor. Well, it seems that the tumor has grown so much that they can’t do the surgery. It’s now on her spine, her abdomen, and the top of her leg. They’re going to go right to chemo and radiation.’
Lisa – let’s hope you get the parts for the furniture. Good for you taking that refund
I just heard that earlier in the week 49 of the states were under a weather advisory. Not surprising
Michelle NV – do you happen to know if cactus plants have deep roots? I have an area between the post for the deck and the sidewalk that’s a real PIA to cut the grass so I’m thinking of some sort of flower. The problem is that, literally, about 2 inches below the ground level is the footer for the post. So I’m thinking a flowering cactus might go well there since they can withstand the heat that comes off the post and also the cold that we sometimes get. I’m just wondering if the cactus needs a lot of room for roots
I don’t remember who mentioned high protein keeps them from snacking on “yuk” things (like cookies), but they are so right. I’ve been trying to up my protein and I’m finding that I’m only wanting something healthy. Cookies just don’t appeal to me.
Heather Canada – welcome
Annie = I’m really impressed how you always go back to exercise. Sometimes it’s just so hard (sometimes???? More like always) after you haven’t done it in a while, but you do it.
Rebecca – how wonderful about your youngest!
No work tomorrow so I get to go to the gym!!! Yippee. I’m planning to do a 20=40-60 workout on the treadmill.
Heather UK – Bea is really something! You must be so very proud
Has anyone ever had seitan? How do you use it. No links please, just personal uses. Whenever I put the shirataki noodles in my soup I think of Heather.
Barbie – did you have any problem with your EV in the bitter cold? I was just reading an article that said that people with an EV had to wait until the battery warmed up before it could be charged and then it didn’t hold as much of a charge plus it ran down faster. When I’m walking, many times that’s when I catch up on my phone calls.
Sue WA – I get to go to the water aerobics tomorrow! I’m stoked. Hope all is well with your ankle the next time you go to the podiatrist
Just got back from ceramics and got everything ready for exercise tomorrow.

Betsy I miss babies....
Between grey bear telling me to get off my $$$ and Pip whispering in my ear, I hit 10k steps! Watching Barrett-Jackson with DH, so walked while watching, then fast walked around house during commercials. Need to order new fitbit. Mine only holding charge about 36 hours. So if I can finish up my water..ugh...I will hit all my targets for first time since in almost a week.
I finished reading The Seventh Girl by Andy Maddon in about 10 days. I read Last Night by Luanne Rice in 5 days. I have been trying to read The Bad Weather Friend by Dean Koontz for the past week. I am on page 25....struggling to get into it. May be time to switch books.
Well, about time to head to bed.
Love to all!
