day 7: 70 minutes of hiking along a local refurbished trail. Such an improvement!

    European trip sounds amazing!!!!!

Nothing beats a sandwich with a homegrown tomato, in my opinion.

Week 1 down and starting the next one with this challenge. Did pretty good, all in all, getting at least 5 days in of my 30 minutes.

Yesterday I stumbled across a series of 5 easy exercises that I always considered stretches, but are really exercise movements that need to be done in short bursts several times a day and started them yesterday. My plan is to build on those with the expectation they will lead to better mobility for me.

Good going everyone. Keep it going!

Joy, I trip to Europe sounds great. I was born in Munich and lived there until I was 5 years old. Never been back!

week 1. Exceeded goal by 60 minutes, if my math is right I did 440 minutes.

Week 2. Day 1. 100 minutes on bike. Feeling stronger but achier. 16.8 miles.

I made peach jam in the morning and also froze some peaches. Contractors coming tomorrow not today. Hoping I can still get some exercise in somehow.

Nsk1951 the exercises sound like a great plan!

Treadmill 25 minutes today. Getting to be more of a routine for me thanks to the challenge.

Trip is a long ways off but something to look forward to for sure.

Peach jam sounds wonderful. Sister-in-law coming on Friday and bringing me some B C peaches. Looking forward to that.

GR8, those exercises aren't really stretches per se, just what I always thought of them being as they are so low impact. Actually they are seated or supported standing small movement routines like foot pumps, leg lifts, wall planks, and many more. Very suitable for geriatric people

I guess I come from an era when it wasn't considered exercise unless you broke a sweat, got breathless doing it, or your muscles failed to make the next rep; so I always put those other physical movement into PT/OT and Stretches. 😎

This is the season for making jams and canning or otherwise preserving produce bounty!

    Treadmill 25 minutes this morning.

Warm day today so turned the a/c back on this afternoon. Small beef roast cooked in the slow cooker so won't be heating up the house.

Travel agent should be phoning tomorrow morning and I will book my Europe trip. I let my new travel friend know what/when I am travelling. She is doing Switzerland/Austria tour and said she is going to see if she can also do the one I am taking. She hasn't booked anything yet and said she will wait until I book then see if it will work for her. I had looked at the Switzerland tour awhile ago and decided it was too expensive and went with the Imperial Europe one instead. She likes to travel for a longer period of time than me so not sure if my trip will work on her schedule. Will be nice if it does….will see what happens.

I stumbled onto a YouTube video that was discussing Protein. You never know with YT and other social media sites about the person you are viewing unless they are already a 'big name' … so I try to google the people to see if their 'credentials' seem legit. Of course, the person that so interested me today has a PHD from a university and a long career, and many books. Still… it was interesting what he talked about.

In a nutshell, I realized I don't get enough protein in my diet. Not only that, but too much of my protein is plant based. Thus I decided to make some tweaks to my food plan. It's going to take some doing to change my decades of habit, but I will give it the good ole 'college try'.

In case you are interested: I listened to Dr Donald Layman.

Melody Great job last week on your exercise journey. I like peaches especially jam and cobbler 😁

Joy I read somewhere when you do something for several days it becomes a habit (treadmill)

nsk exercise is movement you don't have to sweat heavy or be in pain. I have made changes to my meal plan as well

Still enjoying the cooler weather. May warm up in the next few days.

I have a stationary bike I haven't used in years I'm thinking about riding it (if my knees agree) for a few minutes 2 days a week along with my 30-minute walk 3 x per week.

    30-minute walk today

day 9: chair yoga 45 min., walking 35 min.

Another lovely day but we are not getting enough rain.

The peaches here are really good this year.

I do not know much about how different types of protein compare. I just know seniors need more but not too much.

Melody as much as I hate exercise you make me want to dust off my stationary bike

Joy 1/2 pound 👍️ Next June will be here before you know it

Anyone have a Non-Scale Victory (NSV). My slacks are getting lose in the stomach and hip area.

GR8TAWK That's awesome that you are noticing a difference in how your clothes fit!

My new travel friend said she is booking her two trips tomorrow and taking a pre day in Munich to join up with me. She will do Imperial Europe first then Switzerland. The Switzerland tour starts in Munich the day after Imperial Europe ends so will be perfect.

Fish for supper tonight. Trying to have fish more often instead of beef, chicken or pork.

Beautiful pic, Melody. Well done on the walking.

No exercise yesterday for me. Met up with family/friends for by late sister's urn placement. Was a touching tribute to her.

Sister-in-law brought me some B.C. pears which are wonderful. She picked them herself from a local orchard. Kind of her to think of us.

Back to my routine today and treadmill done for 25 minutes. New travel friend confirmed that she booked the Imperial Europe trip but not Switzerland. Her travel agent is working on options for her to do the 2 trips. Happy that she will be joining me as she was so nice to travel with on my last trip. Nice to connect with a like minded traveller.

    day 13.70 min. walking

Today was kind of a whirlwind of errands and various cooking projects. Managed to fit that walk in somehow.

Joy, I am so glad you have found a nice travel partner. And good job on that treadmill.

Week 2 has ended and I'm happy to say that doing exercises daily is getting to be easier to do: both physically and mentally as I don't have to talk myself into doing it anymore, and I am also more comfortable while doing it. Didn't think my legs and arms worked anymore and yet they DO.

Weight has inched down into the next 'tens' lower number on the scale; just by about half a pound, but still it feels good to see that second digit drop!

Melody, your photo of the stream was delightful to see and to think about the memories it stirred up inside my head. Thanks for sharing it.

Joy, I hope you and your family/friends had a great time remembering your sister. Memory Eternal.

GR8, I have a new fish recipe to try on my meal plan this week. It was on a Canadian YouTube channel I follow: Glen and Friends … I'm going to alter the recipe a little bit but will use the technique. It' a casserole dish that used one whole fillet of fish as the base.

Week 3 starts today and I'm off to a good start. Hope you all are too.

nsk…Well done on the weight loss and exercise! You should be proud of yourself.

Uneventful day today. Did get my treadmill in for 25 minutes. Need to get out to my garden tomorrow and dig up the rest of my potatoes. Shouldn’t take too long as not many under each hill. Was such a pathetic garden this year. Hopefully next year will be better.

Melody if I had that scenery, I probably would get in more than a 30-minute walk

Joy keep up the good work on the treadmill

nsk seems like this exercise challenge is really working for you

Easy day today baked chicken and veggies for dinner.

Can't believe we are in week three of the exercise challenge

    Week 1 30 minutes of walking 3 x per week✔️

    Week 2 30 minutes of walking 3 x per week✔️

so glad we are all doing well!

    Day 14– walking 70 minutes

Just the thought of having to list zero as exercise is motivating me. So far I only did that one day!

Melody, you are doing so well with your walking!

Treadmill 25 minutes. Got out to my garden and pulled the rest of the potatoes. Wasn't very much there. Also picked all the tomatoes off the one bush variety I had. Got quite a few nice size tomatoes with some ripe and others just starting to turn. Had toasted tomato/cheese sandwich for lunch…was delicious!

Hello, I am new to this thread. I am a 73 (nearly 74) Aussie female living in Perth, Western Australia. I first joined MFP in 2011 and lost 25kg (55lb) in time for my daughter's wedding in August 2012. I think my success story is still here on MFP (search 60 Aussie). Sadly over time the weight has snuck back on. In Nov 2024 I had Open Heart Surgery for a severely calcified bicuspid aortic valve that needed replacing. Since then I have gained 6kg (about 13 lb) and hardly any of my clothes fit me. I am currently 95kg (209 lb - wow it looks worse in lbs!) and 5'6" tall. I look and feel fat, and know I can lose weight if I am disciplined. My issues are mine alone - greed, and lack of motivation.

My original account has gone so I had to re-join under this current account. When I lost weight last time I had a lovely group of friends who helped me, but then MFP stopped that facility which is annoying. So when I found this group whilst searching for motivation, I thought it might help me, sharing with a group of like-minded people.

I'm off to York (Western Australia) to visit daughter today so no walking - I might try indoor cycling when we get home. At the moment I am doing a 7 day challenge with the Be Mobile 55+ Physiotherapy (they have free videos on YouTube).

Will check back in later. Christine

Welcome to our little group, Christine! We are all like minded people trying to eat healthy and stay active. I hope you will find our group helpful as we try to help and encourage each other to reach our goals. It sounds like you have had some health issues and wish you well in that regard.

Treadmill 25 minutes. Internet repairman is coming out tomorrow to replace the signal unit on our roof as it is now outdated. Need to get his opinion on replacing the d-link we have in the house as it is the original unit I purchased when we signed on to this internet provider about 20+ years ago. Seems to be quite a few different options that I find confusing. Will see what he recommends. Could rent a unit from them but prefer to purchase one.
