Katiebug, Machka, Rita, - all of you who went back to school in your later years and got advanced degrees - so proud of you.
Kylia - your YGD reminds me of YOU with the energizer bunny/hurt foot/keep going attitude. Glad you got some paperwork done and still were able to enjoy the game.
Rebecca - I got chills seeing your boys together. I know you are enjoying every minute of their reunion.
Lisa - enjoy your visitors. Have the kids secured a landing spot they'll permanently move to after the visit?
Rita - how maddening your lost watch is so nearby but not in sight.
Michele - those socks look interesting, I'll mention them to my foot doc when I go in on March 4th. Safe travels!
Beth - great news with the cochlear implant. Sounds like many people have success with it. I remember when I was a kid, I knew an older fellow who got a hearing aid, maybe one of the first. As I recall, he wore complicated head gear. I'm curious to see how improved hearing will impact your other senses - if they will at all. As you mentioned brains change a little with improved hearing.
Margaret - after my DH passed, I appreciated the power of quiet.
Pedometer story: I have been using an inexpensive pedometer I just stick in my pocket, got it from Amazon last year. Found some at Walmart last week and picked up one for T and one for myself as a spare. I wondered how it would measure up against the one I currently use. The new one records almost exactly 2/3 of the steps the old one records. It has a "10 - step delay" which I think accounts for discrepancy. Not sure how long the period of inactivity has to be - such as sitting in front of this laptop for a few minutes, but if it's not counting initial steps or the 10 steps I take to the bathroom, for example, no wonder. I told T to just multiply her steps by 1.5 and it will be more accurate.
Waiting for a return call from the PUD. One of these days they are going to want to replace a power pole in their right of way on the back of my property. The previous landowner planted a lot of trees back there, and I sure hope they don't have to remove them to get the job done. We planted some evergreens this side of the right of way in case that would ever happen, but not many.
Though if those trees were gone, it would make it a lot easier to mow. So crossing fingers what ever happens will work out for the best.
Make it a great week.

Do the pedometers have the ability to change settings such as turning the step delay off and more importantly being able to enter stride length?

Well poor Tracy got whatever Miles had which includes a fever
,she is panicking because she is 6 weeks along , and how do you rest which she is trying to do with a 2 yr old, unless she puts on Nightmare before Christmas, which he will sit through.
I wish I could do more.. but I don't want to get the creepin crud either..
Just keep her in your thoughts that it is quick passing, she goes for her first ultrasound on Wednesday.
We are supposed to get a pile of snow tomorrow..2 -
Machka - I can change the stride length on the new pedometer, and I lengthened it since I have long legs, I think it was pre-set at 24". Maybe make it smaller? Suggestions welcome!

Pip ~ Are you getting your shower regrouted? I have been using mold spray on the tiles in my shower and it's working a bit but not perfect. The tiles are white and easily get moldy.

Before and after
He started taking off the old grout when I took the before pic, the after came out great! It wasn’t that bad, but it needed it. Then had the counter caulked and around the sinks.
The kitchen we had him stain the grout the same as the living room.

Well, BK wasn’t busy last night, but I understand that they were busy Sat. night. So there was a lot for me to do. Oh well…
Rebecca – I knew that your son would love the pillow!!! Wonderful pics
Tracey – what I don’t like about the popcorn ceiling is that I feel it traps in the dust. I would much rather have a flat ceiling, too. One time we had a water leak from the condo above us and some of the ceiling started to chip away. We had to have it tested for asbestos. If it had contained asbestos, it would have had to have been taken down. That would have cost a few thousand dollars. Fortunately, there wasn’t any asbestos in it. So they just repaired it. I was hoping they’d replace it, but no go. Good luck for your daughter
UTI – I don’t think I ever had one up until a few years ago. I didn’t know what was happening and my cousin told me that I had a UTI.
You know, I got most of the things to take to FL ready. Well, Vince wanted to get the car packed. Immediately after bowling. I needed to get dinner ready. So here I am, getting a lot of the last minute things ready to go in the car (what needs refrigeration, what doesn’t, etc). I had to go back out to the car after he’d packed it because things should have been in the bags that didn’t need refrigeration. If only he’d have given me a minute to get things in order! And he forgot to put things in the car that I wanted so I had to do it. He didn’t pack my laptop so I guess he’ll do it tomorrow.
Allie – I wasn’t sick with Jess, but with Bryan I spent almost every morning in the bathroom. Thank goodness Jess didn’t mind the VCR!
Barbie – good luck at the dentist.
Barbara – no matter what, I do care about Jerry. I know in my heart that he really can’t help the things I had to put up with from him, it’s part of his disability. One minute he can be frustrated with me and let me know it in no uncertain terms, and then the next minute he’s my best friend. You just have to look past the disability.
Heather – good thoughts being sent to your son’s best friend and for your ex. Also for you and Johnny
The plan for tomorrow is to do a Resistance Cord DVD. This isn’t a long one, but at least it’s something. Want to be ready to finish getting ready to go.
Pip – the grout looks amazing.

I am thinking about Valentine's Day and glad I don't have to participate this year. I have lots of wonderful memories of various men, but no regrets. My only true love is chocolate!

Good Monday!
Quiet I crave it especially at end of work day or when working on an involved project. My SIL like my DH always has something turned on for noise. When DH would go away for weekend, I rarely turned on TV or music. Just noise overload.
Speaking of DH.....he complained about not going to KY all week, then decided not to go. SMH. I hung out with him Saturday watching mindless TV. Yesterday I had to buckle down to pay property taxes and gather tax stuffs for accountant. No noise in back room and DH was good at basically leaving me alone. I can get nasty if I am trying to work on important stuffs and keep getting interrupted. I still need to put some papers in his file cabinet, but ran out of time yesterday. The upside is I have nothing urgent as of this morning. Did take a moment to start putting all accounts in my just in case book. Had friends coming for Super bowl watch (I sually like commercials and halftime) . This was our dessert night with added appetizers. I had planned on making chicken salad and brownie bites. Chose paperwork instead, so bought those things. It was still good. Relaxing evening. Kitchen cleaned and dishwasher running while watching game.
Last week was not good for goals. Lots of blanks on my calendar. I am hoping for a better goal oriented week. Slowly but surely catching up on past due projects. I did finish one book and started another.
Beth I am happy for you getting implant. So many people won't even wear hearing aids!
Rebecca I am so happy for you! We told you oldest would love his pillow!
UTIs When I was in my 20s and early 30's UTIs were a bi-weekly thing. Allergy to sulfa drugs developed as I was on them so much. Doctor finally put me on a really low does of an antibiotic for a year. I will say that I don't think I have had but maybe one since then. Hugs to those suffering with them. The last three years it has been fighting yeast infections-ugh.
I know there was more I wanted to comment on, but must get ready for work.
Healing thoughts!
Congratulations on successes!
Safe travels!
Grateful you are all here!

Thanks! Yes they are busy playing video games, and showing each other music videos. I made eldest his chicken fried rice today. Its 1/2 container of bacon cut up and fried, 7 chicken tenders cubed, 5 eggs scrambled, and 4 cups (12 cups cooked) of white rice, plus sauces etc. Its a protein packed meal!

Finished this jigsaw puzzle week... weirdly fun. Wood pieces, instead of cardboard, and totally wiggly. Different and very swirly pieces, to say the least. Haven't done a puzzle in years. All Michele's fault.

My visit to the dentist went very well today. The hygienist who was there the last two time is gone. She was too harsh and bossy and critical. The new one was delightful and had some new apparatus that helped me not feel like too much liquid was going down my throat threatening to choke me. I have all my teeth and they have served me well. I want to keep them.
Today Jake made an appointment with an attorney to update our will. Our last attorney retired and Jake has some things he wants changed. I'm not too concerned about what happens to my stuff after I die except that I want the dogs cared for. I plan to write the last check and have nothing to leave to anyone.

It took me a minute to figure out was a de-bobbles was. I have one that looks like a sheep. Kaitlyn’s MIL had never used one and borrowed mine. She went and bought one right afterwards.
I hope your son’s partner gets a transplant soon.
Your son is going to be dealing with a lot with his Dad and partner.
Kylia - sounds like a good weekend all in all.
I hope your GD doesn’t have a broken foot and it heals fast.
Beth - all of the new research on dementia states that hearing loss is attributed to it. It has to do with the isolation of not being able to communicate. I have sworn for years that loneliness is a big factor in it. I noticed immediately the downhill slide of my Mom when Dad died, and then how it levelled out and stayed the same for years after being placed in the nursing home.
I hope your Mom is seen to properly.
Lanette - I grew up with 7 maple trees lining both sides of the driveway and one more and an oak at the entrance to my grandparents driveway. (It was a T) I remember when those trees had to be removed it was so sad. I’ll have to see if I can find a picture when I go through them.
Joy - I am enjoying this warm weather but I fear we don’t have enough snow for both fires and growing.
Lisa - I did a lot of skimming this weekend and missed that your son and his other half moved home. That will be nice to have him handy.
Pretty puzzle. I have four that are brand new that I need to do.
Barbara - i would love to come to Oregon. I read a book set in Oregon and wanted to see it.
I at one time in my life thought I would like to be an interior decorator. I actually even started a course for it. I quit because we were living in Ontario and were renting. I needed a house to be able to practice on and didn’t know anyone who owned one.
Vicki - have you found a new person to train yet?
Sue - I hope your ankle continues to heal. I also home you are able to get that tenant out soon.
Carol - it must be frustrating not knowing what to do for your BIL.
Allie - I think you’re smart to stay away. It sucks being sick, pregnant and having a toddler, but she’ll get through it.
Michele - it probably does trap dust, I just have a duster I run over it a couple times of year. My ceiling is quite short though.
Barbie - I have often told people that there is no law that I have to leave anything for anyone. They will have their memories of me.
I changed out the knobs on cupboards today. I started to last night but needed longer screws. A very helpful man, named Teddy, at the local hardware store helped me out with that and with longer screws for the outlet box covers since the drywall is thicker than the 70’s panelling the originals won’t fit.
Sold an anti-fatigue mat and a shelf today.
Few more things on Marketplace. If they don’t sell I’ll just go donate them. I hate to though, I could use the funds to help pay for the cabinet I already ordered. 😂
I feel very wired tonight for some reason. I hope that it settles and I get some sleep.

Measure your stride length and enter that number.
You'll have to Google it because I forget if it is from the tips of toes to tips of toes or toes to heels.
You measure it by walking on a long piece of paper in wet feet or on muddy ground.
Or you measure a distance of 240 inches and count how many paces it takes you.
Make sure you've got space before and after so you can get into a natural stride during the section you are measuring.

Like Halloween, Valentines is kind of a non-event here.
There isn't much in the stores and I haven't heard anyone talking about it.
I will go to work ... I have a report due. If I think of it later, I might wear red or pink.

Pancake day today! I think we might go for it! A savoury, maybe ham and cheese, or salmon and Philly, and a couple of lemon and castor sugar.
Some years I don't bother, or just forget, but .... why not?
My son said last night that his friend had made an emergency will on Friday. The friend is part owner of several very successful companies, including international ones, and is worth millions. You would never know it from the way he is, a modest man, who lives in a modest house, and is so sweet.
I asked my son if he had made a will, and he said no.
I was shocked!
He said, everything will go to his wife anyway, but I explained all the problems she would encounter with probate, and all the ramifications if both died, etc etc. He said he would make one, but I bet he doesn't. I will remind him. I think only now is the time when the reality of death is hitting him. We live with it every day at our age, but he is only now having to truly think about it.
He will be 45 in June.

This article explains
https://www.walking4fun.com/articles/pedometers/how-to-measure-your-stride/just-10-simple-steps.php
Measure Your Stride With Just 10 Steps
Your pedometer likely comes with an instruction manual which includes directions on how to measure your stride. Most pedometers suggest that you take 10 steps, measure the distance from start to finish, and divide by 10. The result is your stride length. Very fast. Very simple. And... kind of accurate... but I’ll talk about that a bit later.
But first, let’s just try it. I’ve found that sidewalks are the easiest surface to use for this type of measurement. They’re flat, level and each of those lines running across the width of the sidewalk can be your starting point. Stand with both feet just behind a line, then take 10 normal-sized steps. Place a coin, rock or other marker at the tip of your 10th step, then use a tape measure to measure from your starting line to your finish point.
Even better, do this several times and average the results.
And there are other methods here:
https://www.walking4fun.com/articles/pedometers/how-to-measure-your-stride/index.php
Or here:
https://www.healthline.com/health/stride-length#calculate-step-and-stride-length
Or here:
https://www.verywellfit.com/set-pedometer-better-accuracy-3432895
This last one provides several good methods and then adds a height chart where for females: height in inches multiplied by 0.413 equals stride length. When you use your height to determine your stride length, you get a rough estimate that isn't personalized but it might be a good place to start.
So for me, my height is 65 or 66 inches ... so about 27 inches.
If I'm not mistaken, @SophieRosieMom you're taller so yours would be 28 or 29 inches.

Today was a beautiful warm summer day so I walked to the botanical garden and back at lunch.
According to Strava, 5 km = 7016 steps (for me).
Here's a kilometre to steps calculator that uses height and pace:
https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/health/km-steps.php
According to that calculator 5 km = 7246 steps
To reach 10,000 steps, I would have to walk 7 km which would take me more than the hour I have for lunch. I'd have to jog that!!
Among several foot issues including arthritis, bunions, Hallux Limitus (caused from burning my left foot to the bone, and then putting a lot of pressure on my right foot when I was recovering) and Hallux Rigidus, I also have tailor's bunions with calluses on both feet just below my little toes.
Those tailor's bunions and calluses can be painful when walking if I've got shoes that aren't quite right.
Today, when I walked to the botanical gardens and back, I wore a pair of shoes which have been pretty good, but they have been becoming more uncomfortable gradually and I'm not sure why. They certainly weren't up to the task today!! Not only were my tailor's bunions not happy in general ... somehow something pinched and I ended up with a large and very painful blood blister!
I would have worn my trail running shoes, but they are wearing out rather badly so I think I'll see if I can get a new pair tomorrow.

Good Tuesday,
Head woke me up a little early this morning. Water with electrolytes hopefully will help. Forgot to send stats to Lanette yesterday. Up .3 lbs. No biggie, but I know why so just need to fix. Not enough movement, short on water, carry out pizza, and slight increase in calories. Just walking will help.
I love all the house updates. Inspiring! I still want my master bath done, but once again on back burner for another project. Smaller ones I could do....handles on kitchen cabinets, new stool cushions, changing the upholstery on the dining room chairs (they are so 1990s). The other big one is changing the carpet but would rather hold off that until bathroom done. No need to get construction yuck in new carpet. The other issue is new carpet doesn't last as long as the old stuff. Most of the carpet is from 1991. Three rooms have newer carpets (2005ish) and they too need replaced. I don't fret, just make list;)
Puzzles, crossstitch, coloring, writing, crafting....what a talented and inspiring group of ladies. I have finished book three of the Stillman Lake series. That is the fifth book of the year! I haven't read this much in years and missed it.
Off to get ready for work.
Welcome to the new ladies!
Healing thoughts to injured or illnesses among us.
Make the best choice you can in the moment. Even 10 steps is better than none!

Machka: Jealous that you can walk at some botanical gardens near you.
Claire: Welcome
Rebecca: Such handsome sons! And chicken fried rice for the eldest sounds delicious!
Beth: When is the CT scan? Is the implant procedure an outpatient procedure?
Tracey: Hope you had a relaxing day yesterday and got your homework done!
Heather: Sorry about your EX's health. It is a concern. And your son's friend...very concerning. Will he be having a heart
transplant?
KJKelly: I would love to see 4 infants as there are no children in my life. But caring for 4 infants every day...I would have to work up the stamina for this!
Kylia: Sounds productive to me...getting the the paper work together for the taxes. I printed off some forms this morning.
RVRita: Glad you are feeling better and I hope the power is back. Frustrating about the watch. It isn't in the trash is it? How about on top of the fridge. I have a friend who is tall and puts things there and forgets she did that.
MargaretTurk: I am so glad you are painting.
Michele: I had the popcorn removed from the kitchen ceiling. It was peeling near the stove. Years ago I had it tested for asbestos and it was negative. But I really was tired of the peeling. Would love to do the other rooms!
Lisa: Great about having a poem.
Barbie: I have been going to my hygienist about 25 years. She spends half the time talking. She is a talker. But my teeth are okay and my son is grown and I am not working so I have time to spend with her. In my younger days I would have been anxious to move on.
Debbie: Great you are using the nebulizer less.
Joy: Congrats to your grand daughter who was skating.
Lanette: I started the spread sheet for a budget. I could save money on food and buying ice coffee when I am out. I don't use the freezer much and don't buy in bulk. I will just see how this goes.
I love the posting: May all that has been reduced to noise in you become music again. I slept better last night than I have been sleeping. I went to bed early and got up at 5. I will leave for the cat shelter when the light comes up in a few minutes.
Yesterday I went to a womens' coffee and really enjoyed this. We have had much rain and it is time for the sun to come out.
After the shelter, I will stop by a box office and pick up tickets to a play a friend and I want to see. Next week I will have my son's dog..Jordy..a black lab. I really enjoy him and walking with him!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

Claire in the UK ( @misssixtea ) - Welcome, glad you're here! Come back and join in any conversation you like... There are always lots swirling around...
Barbara - Proud of you for reading and not feeling you must respond. So now, the question is, can you just respond to just a few? 🙃😀😂 I shouldn't poke, I just hate to watch you stress to catch up and respond to all when we genuinely do know how much you care already.
Heather - I do hope your son's friend can get the needed transplant, it sounds terrifying for all concerned. Hope it gets your son off the dime to get his will done as well. It's such a gift to those who love you if the worst happens, and I hope it never does.
Machka - I thought you might like that one, considering your coloring page choices. It's only about 300 pieces, but it was tough to put together! I struggle with spatial awareness anyway, and the wood ones come close to shading over into 3D. I think it's a really good mental exercise for me. And not expensive. Just had to keep a towel thrown over it at night to keep Egg from pushing the loose pieces onto the floor! 🐈⬛😹🖤
Tracey - The kids are on the move right now, not completed yet. In Lubbock last night.. halfway between tonight, somewhere in Oklahoma. They start each morning between 11 and noon and end it about four years later, as John doesn't drive, just Soraya. They'll be here late tomorrow afternoon, so I didn't even have to change my acupuncture appointment!
Lanette - Yes, the last time they were here, they looked at several apartments in the area they were interested in, up around Fayetteville. It's very much a college town (University of Arkansas) and John lived at the south edge of it five years ago, so he's familiar with the area. They found an apartment that offers a $99 deposit for veterans (they both are disabled vets, she's Navy, he's Air Force).
Rosemarie - Thank you... I don't write poetry often but was inspired by one I posted on Facebook from someone else. It's nice to finally have the mental time and space to be able to write again.
More in a minute...

Good morning ladies!
Machka I have Tailor's bunions too. My shoes never fit quite right.
Claire, welcome!
Heather our hearts go out to your son and his friend.
We are expecting a sprinkling of snow today. My dad has a dermatologist appointment, so I will drive. Hope there's no ice.
I'm thinking about a mocha latte later. The caffeine will help my head deal with the changing weather. Self-care for migraines.
I "liked" a guy on a dating site last night, and he "liked" me back. Now I have to decide whether I'm just window shopping, or ready to pay for the site so I can message him. Hmm. Am I ready to date again? I feel like my grieving is under control. But I don't know about leaving my dad alone for long. Either way it's a pleasant daydream. I never posted a photo on that site. That would be the next step. Hmm. I wanted a new hobby!
Well you ladies have a magnificent day! Happy pancakes!

Good morning, my chickens, from the frosty early hours of a sunny winter day in the Arkansas River Valley,
Woke up soooo congested and sinusy I could barely draw in a deep breath, but time, tissue and coffee are helping clear things up a bit. TMI, sorry. And yuck.
I'm such a big, fat procrastinator that now I have to do the cleaning today and whatever else needs doing tomorrow morning before I go to acupuncture. Wore myself out yesterday on making dinner and making cookies that were a complete failure (dinner was fine).
For the cookies, I tried out a "healthy recipe" and used almond butter for the first time, and old-fashioned oats buzzed up in the mini-food processor to turn them into a rough oat flour, and maple syrup. Seriously could have used the mixture to repair any holes in the wall. Stickiest, most horrible cookie dough I've ever made.
The first pan of cookies came out exactly like they went in, and were completely inedible! So I creamed brown sugar, butter, vanilla and egg and slowly added the mix back into it, one sticky glob at a time... they're cookies now, and vaguely edible, and Corey liked them, but I wouldn't eat 'em on a bet. Not necessarily a bad thing, but still, I hate it when things don't work.
Along with writing a bit again, and baking, I've been working on my refrigerator mural again. Like so many large pieces (both in writing fiction and in art, oddly enough), it's largely deciding what it's going to be all on its own. It's OK, I'm almost beginning to like it. There is lots more to do, as I'm still only doing one color or color blend at a time, at most two or three a day, but that's OK, it may yet make sense.
So looking forward to seeing the kids tomorrow! Hope their journey across isn't too exhausting. I've done those drives so many times in my life, but only in my later years was I willing to do it in easy stages. They are, without doubt, the oldest young people I've ever known.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR3
