My husband doesn't understand, despite wanting to be sympathetic.
The instruction is to walk to the pain, rest, and continue. Pain, rest, continue. I will take my little chair with me.
Over time I should be able to walk further without claudication.

Heather - do you have chiropractors in the UK? A doc that does spinal adjustment? Just wondering if a major nerve is pinched or irritated in your leg/legs and the problem is up in your spinal column? Sometimes they can remedy pain problems.
Maybe a physical therapist - I think you call them physiotherapists - could help too. You probably need a referral from an GP. I think you were looking into that (maybe you did already?)

Lanette - Most of these things are private, so you have to pay. According to the vascular surgeon, if the pain is relieved when you bend over a shopping trolley, then it's spinal. That doesn't apply to me. I can't afford private treatment. I self referred myself to NHS physical therapy well before Christmas. Haven't heard anything. Waiting lists are endless. 7 million are on waiting lists to just see someone. Even when you get to see someone, you still wait for ever. That was on the news today as a scandal, because it is not counted in the waiting list figures. I will continue to advocate for myself, but I consider my research to be the best option. Believe me, I will make my feelings heard. It is the fault of the government, not the hard working folks in an underfunded system.
I will ring the doctor on Wednesday morning and be appropriately assertive. The young woman I saw has not replied to my email.
This is a political issue, so I am not able to go into detail here.

Debbie in Napa Valley, CA -up again since the last time I weighed in- 154.2 Need to start tracking my food again. Exercise is getting back on track with 5 days of exercise- 2 nights of Zumba and 3 days walking- Getting my 10,000 or more each of those days.
Sue from WA State- No water exercise this past week due to tendonitis. yoga 7/7, PT exercises for ankle 7/7. Not a lot of walking, supposed to keep off foot as much as possible so tried to do that. Celebration - current weight 223. Navigation - deal with stress of tenant from Hades without resorting to food.
Evie from BC - Had a rough couple of weeks, it was the anniversary of my mom's passing on the 15th, but I buckled down the last few days and managed to eke out a stay the same! Given that I was up about 3 lbs for a few days, I'll take it!
RVRita from Roswell NM - Weight up from last week. Letting myself stress eat. Celebrating the improvement on my abilities due to the squats I’ve been doing. Navigating The emotional eating. Starting right now to be aware when I’m doing that. DH likes his sweets and those are my downfall. If I don’t buy it, I don’t eat it.
Lanette SW WA State – Celebrating – weight staying in range and good results on the Fitness Test. Navigating – adding more protein to my diet and incorporating additional strength training several times per week.

Everyone on the check-in list - Well done! Love seeing the self-aware comments, something I've struggled with in years past.
Thanks for all the good wishes - Just woke up from one of those naps that suck you under and seem to let you go only reluctantly. Hopefully I'll sleep well tonight, back tomorrow morning to meet my cardiologist's sidekick cardiologist that will be helping with the Watchman procedure, probably in the summer. I don't expect any surprises there, hopefully not adding to the stress.
More medical stuff, skip if you're as tired of it all as I am:Today was more blood tests, which I expected, and what my GP expected they would ask for - a nuclear, full-body bone scan. Not the same as a DEXA scan for osteoporosis, which I know many of you have had - this will show any infections around the bones that impinge on the knee replacement, as well as any inflammation or cancerous incursions in the bone anywhere in any joint.
The blood tests were largely good - again, nothing unexpected.- BUN - Mild issues with the kidney, as my BUN was high, at 27, but not as high as it's been in the past.
- MPV - My MPV (platelets) were a little low at 7.6, but have steadily improved a point or two on each test since the first diagnosis of anemia back in 2019.
- CRP - My C-Reactive Protein was high at 1.4, but it was over 13 back at the beginning of this journey, so it's better. It's a general sign that there is inflammation somewhere, and if you have Crohn's, something is inflamed.
- GFR - My eGFR was 68, which made me very happy after all the other talk of kidney issues, etc.
- HGB - Even better, my hemoglobin, which has been low or right on the borderline of the 12-16 range since this all began, was at 13.4, higher than it's been since 2018. Pleased with that. It's a good sign that the iron infusions a while back did get my bone marrow back to doing its job.
And on that note, Heather, I know why you can't discuss it, but it is dispiriting that healthcare is a political issue at all. Humans are strange. Then again, you don't find squirrels out there discussing the merits of the NHS vs. the weird mix of public, private, non-profit and for-profit healthcare in the U.S. There are days being a squirrel would be easier.
Never got lunch, going to go find a little something to get me through to dinner.

Machka--Happy for you getting aproved for working from home 1 day a week. Your fencing lessons sound fun.
Kim--Really like the flower pictures with Levi's paw prints.
Lisa--I completely understand. I have thrown away clothes because of it happening in public. DH is very good at bringing me clean clothes as needed. Even several maids have gotten a bigger tip because of having wet towles hanging on shower. Washed out the best I could.
Sue--Sorry for the trouble with your renter. Sure hope you can get her gone and not have to repair a lot.
Rebecca--So happy for you and this time with your boys.
Pip--The blinds look very nice.
Tracey--Looks really nice and DGD Micki did cute with her phone design.
Weekend flew by. DH's uncle passed away and the funeral is this coming Saturday in Mason City, Iowa. So will leave on Friday and drive out and spend some time with family and attend the funeral.

I cut out potato chips 9 years ago when I went on a mission to lose weight. I have had them occasionally since but find them too salty to enjoy like I used to.
I prefer nuts but I have to be very careful with them. Usually only have them when I have been exercising more than usual.

Barbara my strategy with my dad is Buddhist inspired. He is 89, and reckless. He is going to have an accident sooner or later, and there's not much I can do. So I try to distance myself from the whole issue, and not ruin my life trying to control him. I do my best to keep him out of trouble, but I don't blame myself when he finds it.
Today he went to the YMCA and couldn't remember whether he drove or walked, so he was cruising the parking lot. Someone called a cop, who gave my dad a ride home. I choose not to get upset over this. Not much anyway.
I had a lovely lunch with my college buddy. But I am about 600 calories over, and that's with water for dinner! I was a little low on calories yesterday, and will try to be low tomorrow so it will balance out. I like to have splurge food once in awhile but I have to pay for it. I had a seafood dip, and salmon with a bourbon sugar glaze, and chocolate lava cake. I'm not strong enough to exercise it off right now, but those days are coming back!

It wouldn’t work so he had to use his debit card. When we came back home he went to the gym and went to the dollar store to by a brush using the card and it worked. :0/

Was going to use the Y’s stairstepper, but decided I don’t like it so I was going to do some HIIT on the elliptical but when I got there someone had used the elliptical for a resistance workout so I thought it looked interesting so I did that. Vince didn’t think I could get home in time to see him and Colby leave to go to the races, and I showed him that I could. After they left went to CVS to get a prescription for Vince, then Aldi, then stopped at the Brevard charities thrift store and the SPCA thrift store. Found a few more dvd’s (don’t have enough yoga/pilates ones down here <seriously>)
The neighbor across the hall and I have a “tradition” of walking to Chipotle, walking to the ice cream place, then walking back to the condo. This year the guys were at the races so Jess and I went.
OK, I am officially freaked. As we were coming out of the ice cream place, the fire dept was just getting there to put out a car fire. Turns out the owner of the car wasn’t there but it was a Hyundai. Since the fire was in the front, it most likely was due to the recall (which so far Hyundai hasn’t done anything about.). To see the car on fire and know that that’s something that can happen to me freaked me out – totally.
Jess likes zumba so I’m thinking that we’ll go at 6 so she can take the class, I’ll just walk on the treadmill.
The plan for tomorrow is to do a Cathe Pure Strength DVD
Annie – great that you resisted stress eating. Wish I could find a way to resist the boredom eating.
Tracey – if only we had that teleporter. I am envisioning us all sitting around a (big) table drinking black coffee or tea. Ahhhh...dreams
Carol – I understand your frustration about your dh. Vince is waiting for vitamin e to be developed….lol Probably the only thing you can do is to take care of yourself by exercising. Set an example

Heather - after our discussions about your aching thigh, my right ankle and calf starting hurting so badly I had to take an ibuprofen and sit down with it elevated. I know mine is a damaged nerve from a now-healed herniated disc, some days it doesn't take much to trigger it. Feels better now. Not sure how my afternoon walk will go - if it gets grumpy, I'll stop.
I made a HUGE pot of clean out the fridge/freezer minestrone this morning. And it's yummy - most will go into the freezer.
I think I found my Indiana grandmother's Potato Soup with Rivels:

The directions are close to what I remembered. She made a smaller batch so used less flour and just an egg yolk. She pinched off tiny pieces of the dough, kind of rolled them in thumb and forefinger and dropped them into the hot milk. They cooked completely. I remember sprinkling the bowl of soup with pepper and putting a dot of butter in the center - the pepper quickly made a circle along the inside edge of the bowl. I can still taste it.

Babara AHAMOD-here is the recipe. It is quite simple. I found it several years ago in one of the Advocate cookbooks for the cleanse phase-I don't have a name to credit it to.Crock Pot Balsamic Chicken Breasts
-1 tablespoon extra virgin Olive oil
-4 cloves garlic minced
-4 full chicken breasts, sliced in half lengthwise
-1 teaspoon salt
-1 teaspoon pepper
-3 teaspoons minced onion
-2 teaspoons dried basil
-3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1. Add oil and garlic to the bottom of crock pot or slow cooker
2. Mix dry ingredients together in small bowl
3. Sprinkle seasoning mixture over both sides of each piece chicken and lay breasts into crock pot
4. Pour balsamic vinegar over the breasts
5. Cover and cook for 3-3.5 hours on low or until chicken is no longer pink at its thickest part when sliced.
In spite of myself I got several things accomplished today. Living room rug looks much better. Chicken in crock pot. A couple of horizontal surfaces have more room on them. Will continue sorting a few odds and ends while watching tv. Got several smaller job tasks done (took a couple of hours).
Had a wonderful walk outside today. A work colleague who was driving to Columbus gave me a call to check on the big issue we are facing. It was good to talk it through with her.
Since it is a short week at work it will be very busy. Interviewing candidate for a job in a key position tomorrow-hoping it goes well and if we like the person the person likes us!.
Got trash out to curb and kitchen cleaned up-going to engage in wind down activities for a bit.

Machka: I am someone who laughs and not everyone does so I sometimes have to watch this! The fencing is always fun to watch!
Michele: We drove from Middle GA to the Pepsi 600 in Daytona one year and the race was delayed from rain for over an hour...maybe longer. When we all got out of the stadium it was past midnight and the traffic control police had left. We were parked in a residential area and stuck in traffic over 90 minutes. We didn't think to call the hotel ...so they gave the room away and there were no rooms available in the area. We slept in the car in the parking lot of the hotel. The next day my DH and I were trying to sleep in the hotel but my son who had slept through all of this was wide awake!

I told one of the volunteers I was cutting back from working at the rescue from 2 days to 1 day. There are 2 new volunteers so this is a good time to do this. This past year has been win/win. I was a new widow and needed a structured activity but didn['t need a lot of interaction with people and the rescue really needed a volunteer.
My plan is to spend the next year really decluttering my home/papers and also I will join a gym that has classes and attend these. I loved the sense of fulfillment I had when the rescue was clean but it is very hot in the rescue in the summer and I feel with my weight I should cut back a little. Maybe there will be some fostering opportunities and I will do these.
My son came today and dropped off the grand dog for a week. He is a black lab and a joy!

I went to help my friend today, we got quite a bit accomplished in a couple of hours and had a nice visit. She just moved into her camper full time on the 9th and she is still trying to fit everything into the camper that she wants to have. She’s getting close, although I think she’ll be needing to purge a lot more. She’s done well though coming from 1200sq ft to probably 200.
I couldn’t do it.
I came home and straightened up my craft room, again. I took two shopping bags and a small basket of stuff to the car to donate. Threw some empty boxes out (leftovers from “I might need these for Christmas”) put some things away and then had a bath.
Oh and for the first time in a long long time, I logged every bite and drank 1.5L of water! I have a calorie deficit today just in calories consumed I didn’t count any of my movement.
I feel accomplished today!

finally back tracking my food. Am under a bit from the 1200 base and I had zumba tonight.
Went out after class with most of the class- two chicken "street tacos", water and a few chips
It was fun but the place was so loud and I was at the end of the table so couldn't hear a lot of what was going on. Teacher will be on vacation so next two classes are canceled. Hoping to walk with a friend or two from class on those days, if it doesn't rain.3 -
Tracey - Well done on the decluttering! They call it the 'decluttering muscle', which gers stronger with exercise. Also 'first pass', 'second pass' etc. And the 'layers of an onion'. It's good to know it's not a once and for all thing and not to aim for perfection. Good is better than perfect and we can do one thing at a time.
Yesterday, a valued old friend sent me a postcard (yes, a real one, with a photo) from Antigua, where she has been on a fabulous holiday. I have nowhere to put such a thing, so I threw it out straight away. I appreciated the thought, and the message, but I don't need the postcard.
I will ring her later this week.
I slept well last night. I took a couple of painkillers at 9.45, and did not feel too uncomfortable all night. Woke up refreshed at 5.45, having gone to sleep at 11. Hooray!
Bea pick up today. We will make final arrangements with the parents for the sleepover on Friday night. All three kids! The parents are going to a show in London, so we will pick the girls up from school, and Max can make his own way over here. I will have to do the linen on Edie's bed upstairs, but the other one is fine for Bea.
I have lunch at the Regency on Thursday with G, which I will have to confirm. I will give her a homemade birthday card for next week. The one with the bright squares. I sent one to P yesterday, with gold, bronze, and silver squares. I am thinking of their respective decors. Can't believe we are all around 75. Our last Zoom was all about our ailments! :laugh:
Only a couple of months now until our cruise. If there is a general election while we are away, we will have to get a postal vote. Haven't done that before. I don't think there will be, but no one seems to know.
