Kim-Your paw flower painting is terribly sweet and beautiful.
So I took a page out of you ladies decluttering books and on a whim got started this weekend. I am a retired teacher who inherited boxes upon boxes of my mother's and great aunt's teaching supplies. So I not only have to declutter mine, but theirs. Also, my girls are 16 and 18 and I have boxes of school memories that I kept as well. So (and I realize I've said "So" three times now, but it's working for me) so, I had to go through the girls papers and even some of their baby clothes. This is my tally:
3 boxes of schoolwork down to one
4 boxes of books down to two
2 large boxes of teaching paperwork down to one-half
4 boxes of other's teaching paperwork down to one-quarter
Tomorrow more of the same and start on the clothes

Michele thanks. Your level of exercise is impressive! Hope you are enjoying Florida. We still have snow on the ground.
I am paying for that mocha latte with insomnia. I do so much better without caffeine. And I have a busy day coming up.
I decided to attend a church service by Zoom. The socializing will be good for me. And Dad doesn't care if I push back lunch by half an hour, so I could actually go in person. Except that I need air in my tires so I need to fix that before I drive that far. But I'm sort of nervous about strangers, which only goes to show I need more socialization. Like a puppy.
I should receive the Rubin book about habits late tonight. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks Barbie!

Annie: Bravo on getting back on the bus, so to speak. I had to rethink my attitude to reaching maintenance. Going back to old habits will only take me back to where I started. The habits I developed when losing weight have to be permanent if I want to maintain.
April: Most definitely the food you eat will affect how you feel. I always feel a bit off if I have over-indulged.
Rebecca: I’m delighted that you have had your boys for an extended visit. You joy jumps off the page.
Have a grand day!
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Terri thank you!
Noom starts my day with a little pep talk about dieting. Very cheerful. That little bit of encouragement is valuable! There's not that much new information, just a little boost with just a touch of choice, personalization, and commitment. I answer some questions by clicking on a button that says "I commit to..." I bet in ten years they will have AI chatbots for that kind of coaching. Hope it gets cheaper.
Anyway, I need to keep the calories low today because I'm going out tomorrow. Let's see if I can skip my Sunday ice cream to trade for something at the restaurant.

Lanette - I did all the tests and came out with flying colours! The only one I couldn't do was my right hand at the bottom back stretch. With my left hand lowest, I can do it v easily. I don't have 5 lb weights, so I used my 2 kg. I was way over, so I count that as OK. I use 7 kg dumbbells every day anyway.
I managed to get through the night without pain killers. A bit achy, but I did get to sleep, albeit broken. Today I've taken aspirin in preparation for walking to the restaurant. Haven't taken those in years! But I guess they can't hurt for circulation.
It just seems so weird to me that I can do all these tests perfectly, but my blood circulation to my legs is compromised. I'm so glad I now know what the problem is and have a plan. The intermittent claudication is very activity limiting, so I'm determined to grow those extra blood vessels!
Tracey - Loving your decor. You have a great eye.
Max arrives any minute. I wanted to take him to an Indian restaurant, but our local ones are shut at lunchtime, so it's going to be the Persian.
Poor John is still sore on his gum, and can't wear his plate. Very gappy. Bea said, "Do you mind if I ask you a question? " ....... "Why have you got gaps in your mouth?" So sweet of her to ask politely.
I'm trying to cook him soft food. He will have chicken at the restaurant, not his usual lamb.

Good morning ladies!
I weighed myself on my new scale midday yesterday at 190. First thing this morning I hit 184! Six pounds overnight! My weight always fluctuated a lot, but that's incredible. I don't quite trust it. But I must have weighed myself six times yesterday (new toy!) and it gradually came down.
But still, what a joyful start to my latest drive! I really can do this! Yay!
Have a great day!

Michelle in NV great work on decluttering!
Annie in Delaware1 -
Weight fluctuations can happen for a number of reasons:
- if you weigh yourself first thing in the morning after your morning pee, you will likely be the lightest because food is digested and liquid is out.
- liquid and food weigh something. 500 ml of liquid will be half a kilogram. If you've had a big cup of black coffee and glass of water (like I do each morning), and if you weigh yourself before and after, you'll see the change.
- on the other hand, dehydration will show a loss ... but that's not good.
- things like air travel, warm weather, sunburn, lack of sleep, more exercise than usual, surgery, too much salt, and several other things will show a weight gain from water weight.
- if your scale is on a carpet, it won't show a good consistent reading. It's got to be on a solid surface.
It's best to be consistent. Pick a time and weigh yourself at that time each day. That way you can track patterns and trends.
This is why I weigh myself every day in the morning after my morning pee. I can see the patterns and trends that way. I know that Saturday morning will show my best weight of the week, so mentally, I sort of count that one as "official".
When I'm dropping weight, it might be a whole kilogram in a week, but during the week, it will be small portions of a kilogram (200 grams, 400 grams, etc.)
A big overnight loss would have me suspecting I'm quite dehydrated.

I decided to walk to the restaurant with John and Max. Quite a pace, but I kept up. And I got there without any claudication. It was uncomfortable, but not too painful. 20 mins brisk walk. I'm encouraged. I got the bus back.
The meal was great, as usual. John and Max had the same thing, Koubideh, which is minced lamb sausages.
Before we set off we showed Max the famous Morecambe and Wise sketch that we had saved on record for him. The one with André Previn. I must have seen it 12 or more times and it still makes me laugh. Max plays the piano, so we thought it would amuse him. It did.
Now for a nap before my Zoom with 'the girls' - my old school friends.

Good morning from the temporarily frozen climes of the Arkansas River Valley...
My thermometer says 9 degrees out this morning (-13C!), and it's supposed to climb up to 50 (10C) before the day is out, with late spring temps coming by mid-week. No wonder my sinuses are in a swivet. Egg wouldn't even go outside this morning. She stuck her head out the carport door, looked at me like I'd lost my mind, and went to curl up on the couch. And she's wearing a fur coat.
Medical stuff:I'm trying really hard not to dread the week to come, but with four medical appointments in three days, it's a struggle. Orthopedics on Monday, cardiologist Tuesday, and gynecologist then acupuncture on Wednesday. Everything covered from my shoulders to my calves...
I get bogged down in it, because it seems it's a matter of making my life harder so my life won't be harder. Catch-22. You're only sick if you say you're sick, but if you don't say you're sick, you won't get what you need to get better. Urk.
Anyway, enough--trying to maintain the perspective that, if I were in a country without this kind of healthcare, I'd be dead already, which makes me feel a bit better. Plus, if I hadn't decided to serve my country 45 years ago, I'd be paying thousands more to get this care now.
More adventures in home reno:Corey was so great yesterday, did all the heavy lifting to get the big wire rack out of the mudroom. Then he moved the chest freezer out of the laundry room into the mudroom, then removed all the coat racks from the kitchen entryway and put them up in the mudroom, diminishing the chaos in the kitchen sharply. He was even able to get a place in the mudroom for him to sit and put his boots on.
Then he shifted enough stuff out of the workshop to get the big wire shelf in there, diminishing a lot of the chaos in the workshop. We're slowly getting things into the spaces where they belong. The laundry room is becoming a full utility room, as the vacuum and all the brooms and mops, etc. will now fit in there. He's going to build some shelves for his sunroom kitchen this afternoon after it warms up, and will put up the hanger for the mops and brooms in the laundry room while he's at it.
I would take pictures of all this, but it's honestly not picture-worthy, just moving all our stuff around. I will take a picture once we put up the door to the laundry room. I've got gravity hinges on order, and we already have the door we can use so we can put up a swinging door. It means I can bump it open even with a laundry hamper in hand.
It's all been one big reshuffle, and it will take a week or so for us to be able to find things. When I've got a little energy, I'm going to start repairing the holes and scobs in the kitchen walls so we can get them and the ceiling painted.
We've got the paint, but doing the actual painting just fell a couple of notches on the priority list a few years back. Now we'll have to wait until it's warm enough that we can strain it - when paint freezes, it can be made reusable, but you have to work with it quite a bit to get it reconditioned. That requires pouring back and forth from one five-gallon bucket to another, which requires my husband, because I don't play with 50+ pounds dangling from a metal bail anymore. If I was doing it myself, I'd do it one gallon at a time, which would be inCREDibly messy.
Anyway...
Annie - I'm of the notion that, if it gets you inspired and moving on this new journey, take the loss and run with it. The point, as noted elsewhere, is not so much what the scale says, it's about the change from one week to the next. Proud of you for getting back on the bike and walking, I'm terrible about letting these medical setbacks push me out of exercising, and you're always an inspiration.
Heather - Inspiration from you, as well. Much as I hate the medical stuff, I need to find out what's going on and find a way through this maze back to health. Your relentless drive to be healthy keeps me trudging onward.
Lanette - Thank you so much - I saved the PDF of the list to try out the baseline exercises at some point when my husband is nowhere in sight so I can get a legit reading. I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going to fall short, but having it in black & white might push me to get back to working on these things.
And... I'm off to find some breakfast that's reasonably healthy and get Corey his third cup of coffee. Hope it is or was a peaceful Sunday for all.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Tracey - that little cabinet looks great, good job. Love the light and decorations. Have you always had the knack for design? When I look at the photos of your house, it looks like a display at a high end store.
Pip - the blinds are awesome. You and Tracey need to go into business together. Yes, we want more details on the new car. I can see you and Kirby zooming down I-5 in a Corvette convertible but something tells me you'll go for more of a family car that can haul your pups. Though I can picture them in the back seat of a 'Vette with sunglasses on, ears flappin' in the wind.
Joy - June will be here before you know it. I'm already anxious to see photos of Newfoundland. I have fond memories of midnight lambing in my PJ top with just a jacket pulled on. At least I'd change into jeans. Stretching out and resting my eyes on bales of hay waiting for the next one. Miss it.
Annie - what fun with the new scale, awesome job. Sounds like Noom is getting you off to a good start. Daily motivation works as we develop new habits. You can do this! I still need daily motivation to keep up with my established good habits, and that's why I come here. I think you'll be surprised at how quickly your stamina returns. Keep going!
Machka - understandable your wanting a place without hills as you age. If you moved back to Canada to retire, would you be looking at a maritime climate like BC rather than the hot and cold prairie?
Heather - I just knew you'd do great on the fitness test. I think that's important information to take to your doctor. I wonder if doing a minute or two of the rapid steps before you walk would help with the pain? A heavy duty warm-up?
I've been looking into HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training. It seems like several sessions of rapid 30 second Step-Ups with a minute of rest between them would do the trick. Need to explore this further. Glad I'm retired. And people wonder what I do all day, lol.
I didn't do so well on the Back Scratch. I got within 2 inches with my right hand and 5 inches with my left. That was my frozen shoulder which still flares a little sometimes. I'm OK with that, it's so much better than it was. So I'm counting that as win.
The 8 foot Up & Go came in at 6 seconds as far as I can tell. I did it a couple times - it got Rosie worked up and she kept getting in my way barking and I was afraid I'd trip over her. I'd tell her to "move it!" and she'd jump onto the chair. My workout coach. '
Lisa - if I could find the teleporter or borrow one of Rita's UFO's, I go with you to your medical appointments and hold your hand if you want. I bet several more of us would jump in and you'd have the whole gang stuffed into the exam room. Have fun with the fitness test.

Found out last night I can't eat yogurt. I've been eating very clean the last 3 weeks. Low carb, (whole carbs only, no refined) no sugar, (except small amounts of honey), and no processed food, whole foods only.
I went grocery shopping yesterday and picked up some plain yogurt to enjoy for dessert with a little honey, and within 5 minutes of eating it, I developed a stomach ache. 10 minutes later that ache turned into some serious stomach pains. So bad that I had to lay down. Within 30 minutes I had to rush to the bathroom. Without sharing TMI, my stomach and intestines finally settled down after 2 trips, and I was able to finally fall asleep.
Now, I can eat small amounts of cheddar cheese, and a small splash of heavy cream in my coffee. Why not yogurt? Still figuring this health and diet thing out, but I guess my body is letting me know what is, and isn't, good for me.
I have a runny nose today. I don't feel like I'm getting sick, so I wonder if it's a reaction to that yogurt last night?
RVRita - I'm following the same type of diet, low carb and no sugar. Right now I'm not dealing with any cravings. I think that has to do with the scare my doctor gave me though, when she told me I had stage 3 liver disease. That was an eye opener and really got my butt in gear, to make some serious health changes.
Annie - I think sugar was doing the same thing to me. So glad I'm following a no sugar diet plan now.
Barbie - I'm following the same eating guidelines as you and loving it. It seems like every week I'm feeling a tiny bit better. I'm one of those people who has to be very strict with logging what I eat, even if it's just a spoonful. Those spoonful calories add up quick!
Tracy - LOVE that stand, and you decorated it nicely.
Heather - I feel your pain. I think doctors are in such a rush, trying to squeeze as many patients as possible in each day, that they fail to take the time to get to the true health issues we have. Symptoms are not, "One size fits all."
Pip - Your new blinds look great.
Tracey - Love your décor. I don't know why, but decorating escapes me. I can never get my house to look as nice as others do.

Annie, You seem very solution oriented right now, so I'm going to share a few things about my beginnings on MFP. I was 62 years old and weighed 185. I couldn't buy clothes in the regular sizes in the stores and the jeans I wore had an elastic waistband, I cried in dressing rooms when I tried on clothes. Losing weight had been a challenge most of my adult life. I thought I was doomed. Here are some of the things I did when I found MFP and made the decision to start my journey to health, weight loss, and fitness.
*I committed to logging onto MFP every morning no matter what and read this thread and a few others while eating my breakfast. The reading was my support, inspiration, and cheering section.
*I put a pad of paper on the counter in the kitchen so I could make tally marks for each glass of water and list whatever sessions of exercise I did.
*I experimented to find a breakfast that worked for me and still eat that same breakfast every morning.
*I made meals with the food in the freezer and cupboards to use up what I had while planning easy to make healthy meals for the future.
*I consulted with my husband to make sure that my healthy meals met his desires.
*I decided to prepare only one meal a day for the two of us. The others were "find it and fix it" so we could eat different things if we wanted to.
* I buy only those foods that fit into the meals I've planned and I keep the number of choices very low.
*I started slowly on exercise and built up over time. What started as 15 minutes of walking has become 90 minutes or more.
*I shopped for the right outerwear so I couldn't use the weather as an excuse for not walking.
*I read books that could teach me what I needed. Most of the recommendations came from women on this thread (that's part of the inspiration I got by reading the thread every morning).
* And, just like you, I asked questions, and made use of the answers. Things take time. James Clear talks about a 1% change a day or week adding up to huge changes over time.

You can do this. You've done a lot of things you thought you couldn't over the last few years.

Did a Crunch yoga DVD. I need to take some garbage out so I’ll see if it’s raining and if not, go for a walk. The plan for tomorrow is to use the stair stepper Update: drizzling so I walked the walkway.
Jen – welcome!
Michelle NV – what a clean out!
Annie – know something? I had been giving Vince only diet Pepsi Caffeine Free. Well, one day he had this hot chocolate at ceramics. He had a hard time sleeping that night. He just isn’t used to caffeine. Not that that’s a bad thing. Same thing with stuffing (boxed). I’d always given him low sodium. Then we came to FL one year and the only stuffing I could find was the regular. He thought it tasted weird. My weight is always lower first thing in the morning than it is at night. Can be as much as 3 lbs. But that’s a nice way to start the day
Annie – (blowing my own horn here) one of the things I do have to say is that I am proud of the fact that even tho I’m working first thing in the morning (and if I don’t exercise first thing in the morning it doesn’t get done), when I can I do exercise early. On the days I’m not working, I exercise. Now that I’m here I exercise. This may not be a big thing to many people (of course she can exercise) but it’s so easy to fall into the habit of not exercising. But I haven’t. So for that I am proud
Jess and Colby are down at the pool right now. Yes, it’s raining. But the pool is heated and you can’t get any wetter if it’s raining out...so
Jen – welcome.
Heather – you are such a great inspiration in advocating for yourself and finding out what’s wrong
Rita – what’s the story on the watch? Did I miss something?
Barbara – root beer jelly chocolates?…..yummmmmm
April – years and years ago the doctors knew just about everything. then again, they also made house calls back then. Sometimes I feel rushed at the doc’s office. fortunately, I’m not sick but even for little things it’s “well, at your age” That may very well be true, but to me it still sounds like a cop-out. I have such a hard time decorating, envisioning how one thing will look next to the other
We switched the mattress in the guest room (where Jess and Colby are) with ours. Jess is having a hard time sleeping, her sciatica is acting up. I know Vince wants a softer mattress (probably a memory foam) so we’ll most likely get a new one for us

Barbie thank you! Breaking the huge weight challenge down into actionable pieces is a big help. One step at a time! We can do this!
I resisted stress eating today. I put air in my car tires because the dash light was on. Instead of going off, it started blinking! I stood in front of the chocolate for a minute but decided not to have any. I denied what I wanted that minute to reach what I want most, like you say. Now that I found that "muscle" I need to make it stronger.

Annie – yea for you getting on that bike. You always amaze me how you get right back on the horse
Colby and Vince left to go to Daytona. Seems they’re pushing up today’s race to 4 hoping to get it in before it rains too hard. I’m glad, I got the feeling that Colby really wanted to go. Update: they only got the qualifying in. Race will be run on Monday. I have a strong suspicion that the 500 will be rained out and run on Monday although NASCAR hasn’t officially made that statement.
Pip – I love the newer blinds. They are so much easier to raise/lower then the older ones. Good job! How DARE you tell us you’re getting a new car and not give any more details! Like make, model, color
Debbie – love Godzilla, especially the lights

Just keep weighing yourself at the same time every day for a couple weeks and when you look back you might be able to identify your "high point". 😀 It can be difficult to identify what is going on over 2 or 3 days.4 -

Reminder tomorrow is the "Weekly Check-in" and feel free to post what you are Celebrating & Navigating if you want. Cutoff is tomorrow morning.
Make it a fabulous day.

Retiring to Canada is likely 10 years away ... a lot can happen in that time. But most of my family are scattered throughout southern BC so that would be the first area we would consider.

Another day of doing odds and ends. Finished a discipline grievance response that is due tomorrow-will send out email after I let it sit for an hour before final review.
Got a nice walk in despite the cold (like Barbie-I have clothes for all weather (and a couple of sizes!). Just nice being out in the fresh air. Most of the neighborhood had sidewalks shoveled after the snow Friday night.
Did rather well on the fitness assessment-everything normal or above except for the back scratch with left hand on top-about 3" away on that-need to keep working on that. Have to figure out best exercise for that. I have noticed that even though the weight is moving ever so slowly downward, my jeans are fitting better. I attribute that to squats and my other exercises.
Made a pot of soup-the one I made a couple of weeks ago that I liked so much. I still like it but this time I used the green cabbage it calls for. Last time they were out of green cabbage so I used a red one. I prefer the flavor of the red cabbage with this I think.
Carol-I believe you are correct-the find friends isn't anywhere to be found. I checked both on my computer version and the app on my phone. That is a silly thing for them to remove.
Pip-can't wait to hear about the car. I wouldn't say you "spill the beans." I think you just like sharing with friends! I thought about leasing with my last car purchase but I'm not there yet.
Allie and Annie-small steps do add up! None of us has this down to perfection-we are all a work in progress.
Heather-so I am curious-your friend with a medical background didn't agree with your research-did she have any better ideas?
Machka-looking for a more level place before it is an absolute necessity is a good idea-especially if Taz doesn't have a lot of flat surfaces!
Off to finish ironing (got half finished last night and stopped!). Also need to get my stretches in-maybe do those before ironing.
Take care all,
