MFP Weekly Check-In 5-20-24
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - Good morning- weighed this morning (Sunday) - 151.2. Down .4 this week. A bit closer to the 140's I was hoping for more than just under 1/2 a pound but, better to lose a little than to gain.
Rita in Roswell NM - Down 1.2 pounds from 184.7 last week. Making progress! I’ll take it!
Sue in WA State - Averaged 56 oz of water per day this week, up from 48 oz the week before. Need to continue working on this. Did well on exercising this week. Yoga 7/7, strength and balance 4/7, 2 times water exercise. Weight up and down this week, too much salt. Need to watch the salt and sugar.
Lanette SW WA State – weight holding steady in desired range. Tracking activity minutes for the Diabetes Prevention class – developed a spreadsheet instead of using MFP (don’t like exercise added to calories and macros for the day). Doing fine on walking, need to start working on strength training 20 minutes twice a week.

Worked then had bowling. Vince went to the bank while I was continuing bowling. Came home and got most of the food that I’m going to take with me ready
Barbara – you know, we’ve thought of the same thing re: Shadow and other cats. I wonder if the mother instinct would kick in when she saw a kitten. The only kitten we’ve ever had was Loki. All the other cats were older when we adopted them.
Lanette – I don’t know that I want to work anywhere else but BK mainly for the reason that it’s close to home. Only 5 miles away. Oh, there are LOTS of other fast food places here. But they’re all further away. I’d first look at adding different jobs (like cooking the bacon). Actually, I really need to give it at least a week and see how much, if at all, my hours go down.
Carol – so happy your hubby is feeling better Actually, when I get home from BK the absolute first thing I do is put my clothes in the wash. Every night I take a shower just to get the smell off me. Like I told Lynette, I like BK mainly because it’s close to home.
Rita – what’s a Sloppy Kevin? Like a sloppy joe?
Vickie – so sorry about your friend
Ceramics tonight then we leave tomorrow. I’m planning to do Jackie Xtreme Timesaver DVD since it’s only ½ hour long. At least I’ll get SOMETHNG in before we go. I know that at the hotel I’ll probably do cardio most days.

Vicki - I'm so sorry your friend has passed. 51 years is a long time to love someone, and never fighting in all that time is an accomplishment all its own. I hope all goes well with the celebration of life. Sounds like she chose well in giving the POA to you.
Was so exhausted that I couldn't resist taking a nap, but kept it short. Might just be the heat knocking me for a loop. Takes me a while to readjust to it. Anyway... Got my work done in the yard before it got too hot, including cleaning up all the little suckers growing on the trees near the house, and then mowing. Before I mowed, I was working on it all for 59 minutes, burned 375 calories. I don't count the hour of mowing afterward as exercise, not when I'm sitting on the big mower. It's definitely a chore, but not exactly hard work.
Then I showered and drove down the hill to Aldi to get a couple things, including a sweet potato to add to the mashed potatoes that Corey will be making for dinner. He adds them to russet potatoes to make a pink mashed potato mix that's really wonderful.
At the moment, I'm just relaxing, talking to y'all, and letting the universe go on as it will for a little bit instead of feeling I need to change it. Or change me. Peaceful.
Love y'all,
Later,
Lisa

Amazing coincidence that this month is Medicare month (turning 65) and just now my knees felt pain, lololol! And the pain was felt before I started the 6 mile walk and 30 mile bike ride

Afternoon ladies
Carmine and Seth stopped by to see Ginger the dog and Miles.so now she knows she will have siblings..all she did was roll her eyes
Today I didn't do much and I took a nap..tomorrow is Alfie to the groomers..4 -
Michele - I don’t know how you can handle that many kittens! I couldn’t do it.
Lisa - Nice looking men in that family.
I could have used a nap this afternoon, but kept going.
Ginny - I hope they find out what is happening with your brother.
Heather - glad the tests went well this morning. Edie is looking so grown.
Machka - I think one of the highest problems I have now with burgers is the spices and things they do to make them “fancy”, I like a plain old burger. Like the old roadside canteens and truck stops.
😂maybe my fussiness is coming out.
You have done better than me, I haven’t tried sleeping on a floor in years.
Carol - great news for your DH.
Barbie - I have found a lot of pizza to be very cardboard like lately.
Vicki - Sorry for your loss.
Pip - hope the pain is nothing serious.
Allie - I can’t say as I blame Carmine, she got a brother and lost her parents, she probably thinks it will be a bigger deal made this time.
Michaela went home today, we did some shopping yesterday before we went to the pool, she had brought all summer clothes and it was rainy and cold. We bought her a plain grey hoodie and spent time today making it girly enough for her. This is all her design, she says she’s “just a hippie girl, living in a hippie world.” She even helped do some of the pressing of the vinyl today. Until she scared me with my heat press, she talks with her hands and was waving it around.
I have to go fold laundry and then dye my hair. I’m going to take my bath after The Voice. All of my music shows are finishing this week. So disappointing.
I see there is a new documentary about the Beach Boys being released on Disney+ on Friday. I miss the days where things were just on network tv.
I can’t remember if I gave an update after the pool yesterday. I did make Michaela stay in one spot for a minute so I could test my swimming skills. I remembered how, I just need to build endurance. I think next pay I’m going to buy a monthly pass. As long as I go 7 times in the month it’s paid for itself.
I’m pretty sure I have a sinus infection, nothing tastes right and I have a terrible sinus headache today. I don’t have time to be sick until the end of June.
Start with the grade 5’s tomorrow.

Hi!
Carol so glad your DH feels better. Yay!
Vicki so sorry about your friend's passing.
The doctor said Dad shouldn't drive anymore, and I was able to get his keys. It was a painful moment, but still a success. A relief, too.
She also said Dad shouldn't go walking alone anymore. That one is harder to wrap my head around, because it means I should watch him all the time to make sure he doesn't leave the house. We talked about Adult day care, and maybe a GPS tracker.
And my sister is coming next Monday. Yay! She set up a tour at the closest memory care place. I don't know if we are ready for that, but we will go look.
And I read some escapist fiction to indulge myself.
So a good day.

Allie - I thought I should clarify, I don’t think she was forgotten, but in her mind it probably seems that way.
Annie - Hugs to you, it’s going to be hard not letting him walk, but maybe you can go with him, or hire someone to walk with him some. I’m not surprised she suggested that, he may get confused and walk into traffic in his confusion. It’s just not safe for him.
It’s good your sister is coming so that you can work together to get a plan in place.

Went to ceramics and picked up my fish.
Pip – feel better soon
Tracey – I, too, miss the days when everything was on network TV. Ahhhh...the almighty dollar!
Annie – so glad for you and everyone else that the doc said your dad shouldn’t drive and you were able to get the keys. Hey, if you have to walk with your dad, just think of the steps you’ll be getting in .
Put some of the things in the car. To PJ it’ll be christmas in May...lol Honestly, I forget some of the things we got him….lol

You'll go walking with your father. 😀 Maybe bring your dog too.

Morning all, from the darkness before the dawn of the Arkansas River Valley,
Today is supposed to be our last sunny, dry day until Friday. Well, for most of the day, anyway, then the rain is supposed to move in this evening. That would be, of course, according to one set of our usually madly mistaken meteorologists. We'll see how it turns out. We're so spoiled with weather forecasts, and certainly take for granted something that just a hundred years ago was much, much more of a by-guess-and-by-golly.
Slept well, if not long enough, but can catch up later if needed. No plans for today, other than a Sam's Club delivery coming in at some point. I did a big order through them, as I'm cancelling my membership for at least a year. Will consider at that point whether it's worth it to rejoin. I just don't think we buy enough through them to make it worth it. So I ordered only those things that are a good buy or that we genuinely prefer that have long shelf lives. In June, I have to decide whether or not to re-up my Walmart+ membership, too. I really do get a lot of things delivered through them, and that's the main reason for it.
Time to get some laundry started and then get back to my quilt... sheets and rugs today, woo-hoo! 😄😜. There are worse things.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Vicki - sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. And good friend at that. (((HUGS)))
Tracey - love Michaela's "Hippie" hoodie. So glad your grands live close and you get to do things with them, I know they'll never forget it.
Carol - great news about your DH. I'm sure his worry is alleviated a bit too, knowing that he's under treatment and they are searching for the source of his blood loss. It was hard for both of you not to worry a bit.
Machka - glad you got a "dry run" sleeping in your new house.
Yesterday was the second Diabetes prevention class. The Zoom is a bit choppy, it's hard not to talk over each other but we're catching on. In-person would be better but not possible since attendees are from all over the region. No class next Monday, due to Memorial Day, but the Monday after we'll start nutrition. Several folks mentioned that's what they are waiting for.
The class leader provided a link to getting more activity if anyone is interested:
https://health.gov/moveyourway/activity-planner
Collette is coming in a bit and rain is due this morning, it will be rainy and/or overcast for the next week. Glad I finished mowing. Weed eating can wait, it will have to.

Good morning ladies!
Michele Tracey and Machka, yes I think I might both go walking with him and also hire someone to walk with him. I bet his physical therapy place might know someone. The hard part will be scheduling.
I guess I need to start walking. He does three or four miles. I expect cramps and bathroom issues. I am just not looking forward to this. The other part is that his hearing is so bad that you can't just tell him "wait" or "watch that car." He is oblivious.
My sister is going to bring an Air Tag for him. My phone is android and hers is apple, so it would work with her phone.
I am so reluctant to put him in a home. It's so expensive. And I'm afraid I might lose this house. That's an overwhelming thought. I already have two storage units full of my furniture; there is a ton of stuff to get rid of here.
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

3 or 4 miles isn't too bad.
Cramps? Like leg cramps? Be sure you're taking a magnesium supplement and drinking enough water.
Bathroom issues? Yours or his?
A hand on his arm is a good way to indicate "wait".
Have a good chat with your sister about the house when she comes. You two might need to convince your father to put the house in both your names.

Sunday night was the second time we camped there. We camped there for a couple nights a couple weeks ago too. That first time we had Rhody with us too so he has been there and had a good sniff around. We might stay overnight this coming weekend ... maybe. Depends what else we've got to do.
What else do we need to do? One thing is to go to the tip to offload some stuff. We're going through things with the plan to get rid of some stuff.
Also, if the floor is done, we want to move our towel cabinet unit over to the new place, into the new bathroom. We figured setting up the bathrooms first was our best bet because there isn't that much to move, and when we do spend a night, it'll be nice to have bathroom stuff there, and we're not painting the bathrooms so there's no hold up.
And speaking of painting, we might start that.
Busy, busy.
Good thing I'm feeling a bit better.

Annie - a thought - if you start walking with your dad, maybe he'd be OK with only doing a mile or two at a time a couple times a day. 3 or 4 miles at a time is a lot if a person isn't used to it. Thinking of you.

Annie and Machka - In the UK, if the house deeds have obviously been transferred recently to avoid having to sell it, then that is illegal, and charges on the house can still be made. Whether the councils will actually pursue the cash is another matter. Also they may let the survivor live in the house for a while, or for life, and make a charge on it. Usually, there is a 7 year gap required to avoid charges. This doesn't apply to a spouse, when the law is they cannot demand the house is sold.
Annie, it may help to think of looking after your dad as a full time paid job, in that you are earning the worth of the house. This should be discussed with your sister. i. e. you should get a bigger share. Do you have carer's allowance in the US? If there is, you should be applying for it.
My heart goes out to you. You need legal advice.
I'm not going to my son's house today. John is picking up Bea. I am keeping myself quiet. We will have an easy dinner - falafel and hummus with fluffy pittas, and a big salad. (Yesterday was baked cod with a pesto crust, and cauliflower mashed with crême fraiche and Parmesan. ) We have had a lot of fishy and non meat days recently. We had egg sandwiches for lunch.
I can see a nap in the near future. Sleep was very sparse last night. Pain worse today. I'm blaming the rain.
Tracey - Michaela is so lovely. Wonderful, strong, character. I love it when they are their own people.
Vicki - So sorry about your long-term friend. Such a huge loss. It's often not given enough weight. My friends are so important to me. Hugs. XOXO

@Michelle: A sloppy Kevin is like a sloppy Joe only lean, diced tomatoes instead of purée or sauce, no sugar, and DH put shredded carrots in everything. It adds sweetness along with the veggie vitamins.
@Machka: I’ve been wondering…. Is your ‘Tip’ store like a Salvation Army Thrift Store you can buy or donate too? We have a GoodWill and a Humane Society one also. I found another, not sure if I can find it again, that buys and sells donated things as well. This is a poor area for the locals and there are plenty of these types of shops here.
@Vicki; My sympathies for your friend. It is hard to lose someone close to you.
Food Yesterday
Breakfast: 1/2 Organic banana, MCT oil 1 Tbl. Corn Flakes, 1 cup, Full fat plain Greek yogurt 1/2 cup, Green Tea with lemon
Lunch: Flour Tortilla, large, sautéed chicken breast 4 oz., 1 oz. Shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 small avocado, chopped radishes, chopped green onions (from my garden pots), sliced mushrooms, and a dash of BBQ sauce, no sugar, Kevin’s recipe.
Snack: 2 grapes, 1 oz cheddar cheese
Dinner/snack: 3 small ice cream cups, the kind that come in a bag at Walmart for parties.
96.5 oz water
All told only 152 calories over the 1200 calorie goal.
RVRita in Roswell Where it is supposed to be much cooler at only 93 for a high with <25% humidity. Perfect temp.

Yes, agreed, Annie and her sister need legal advice.
With the Carer's allowance, it's a good idea to find out what all the strings attached to it are first. I investigated it here, and started to apply for it, but felt there were too many strings attached for my comfort.
But it is certainly worth looking at all the options.

Vicki, hugs friend, so sorry to hear of your long time friend's passing.🙏
Well the floor guy has done the dining room and today is the kitchen. The floor linoleum is more busy than I would've ever chosen. Lee and I think the lines in it look like you know when you sweep into a dust pan and lift your broom up? There's that dirt line? That's what it kind of looks likes strewn around with the rectangles and grays. But heck it will definitely hide dirt!
Its raining today on the island. We won't have access to our kitchen until the afternoon. He still has to glue down the linoleum in the photo, then cut kitchen side and glue. I think he would be annoyed, me trying to make soup while he's there.😂
Thinking of my youngest this week as he's heading to San Diego for some refresher training before he heads overseas to a ship. Hopefully I will get a call on Saturday though.💖. My eldest sailor connected with me on a text, while he's on his carrier on the Big Blue. I thanked him for checking in.💖. Now I just need photos of Athena's birthday party.💖. All in all everyone is communicating well in my family, and I am at peace with life.💖. Vertigo was less last night.
