How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds

This is literally the only unique feature on MFP. If this is done away with, anyone who actively engages in the newsfeed has no reason to stay specifically on this site. There are many other versions of this app that are considerably less buggy.
Also, frankly, the only time I have ever clicked on an advertisement on this app was on accident while going through the buggy ads that move on their own on the newsfeed, so its not even a good business decision.23 -
Please reconsider not getting rid of the newsfeed ...I use it daily and comment, support my friends, cheer them on etc ... I am going to be lost without it ...I hope you do not get rid of it ...I am a long time member and have loved MFP since 2009 when I first joined ..gave up on myself and I have been with this site this time since 2018..PLEASE DON"T GET RID OF THE NEWSFEED !!!!!! Thanks26

@Betty
As someone who’s been using the feed daily to interact, support and receive support from fellow pals, this was literally the only thing that kept me using the app despite there being better options for food scanning and activities/fitness tracking.
Part of my success on this fitness journey after almost two decades of trials and failures is attributed to the support given by fellow pals on the feed updates that i post, and the daily inspiration from seeing my friends post their own successes.20 -
Well if newsfeed is truly going away, all my friends that communicated daily in them can follow me to another app that may not have as many outages as this one has. Just send me a DM.8
-
Please don't change the newsfeed or our friends.9

@Betty Is the newsfeed being removed from the web version as well or just the apps?4

So, we don’t “lose” our friends but now have to click them one by one by one to see what they’re up to?
And not just a single screen, but have to click through a series of screens to boot?
Who thought that was a great idea?30 -
I’ve used MFP since 2018 when I started this journey. I started to ENJOY MFP, when I started gaining friends and seeing the updates. The inspiration kept me using this app, not your already glitched out and manic features. Some days I don’t even log my food, its more of the people I CHOOSE to be apart of… I’ve gained a lot of friends and the fact of the matter is, I do not wish to use any other social media, this was my safe space. These friends just go away? Instead of deleting something all together because you don’t want to improve it…. At least let us deal with the same glitchy bs we’ve been doing. We at least still showed up. Not because of your nutrition blogs but because of real humans talking about their real life.20

Sounds like it is a done deal. The feed has been getting buggier weekly so powers that be probably can not fix it and rather than leaving it broken, they are doing away with it. The activity feed is definitely not a replacement too bad. Wish the software was easier to fix but agree it is pretty old and outdated. I will miss my friends 😥😥
What about our profiles? Are those going to disappear since they are sort of where the newsfeed interacts? Of course looking at profiles even your own has also been broken recently. sigh.6 -

This.
Why do you think almost every new or returning intro member post begs for friends? People know the value of (hopefully) finding a supportive tribe.
MFP has been wonderful to me. I’ve been one of your biggest cheerleaders and have tried to pay forward all the wonderful help and advice I’ve been given. I’ve tried to greet and support new users for years. I feel like 90% of the value of the app just trickled through my fingers like sand. Not going to waste the effort going forward. Very sad.
Where else on the internet am I going to talk about stuff like extra skin and, instead of being ridiculed for not looking like the next social media person, get appreciation and shared stories about the floppy ring. My friends know what it takes to get one and respect me for it, and vice versa.20 -
Well congratulations on giving mfp that final death stroke for many of us.
Nearly 10 years of logging on everyday to support and cheer on mfp family. Many will be leaving in droves as will I. Mfp will offer nothing better than any one of a number of fitness sites. What made mfp stand out and better was the social aspect.. my friends being able to interact and cheer me on.
I just can't believe some bozo behind a desk who likely doesn't even use mfp has decided its a way to save money.. ahhh no.. when people leave, you lose money.
As for it being a little used feature that's just rubbish and only being said as a way to justify gutting it from mfp.
Im so disappointed, it will hurt greatly to lose mfp family 🥺
I give it a couple years at best and what is left of mfp will be extinguished.
I hope staff are looking for new jobs.. you're gunna need it when mfp breathes its last dying breath.25 -
To top it off, when I and others submitted trouble ticket for issues with newsfeed, the tech acted like it just happened and first they heard of it. They sent me a litany of questions, then the next day, they labeled the issue "resolved". Thanks11

Hi y’all, Wanted to first acknowledge that saying good bye to any feature is hard, and I too am sad to see the Newsfeed ride off into the sunset. I do feel strongly that social interaction is important for a lot of folks on what can often be a lonely and difficult journey and having friends cheering you on can make a difference.
I’ll be transparent that the Newsfeed was one of our oldest features that had many flaws and was no longer sustainable to support. While it was not used by many we understand that it’s a real loss for those who used it.
While it is not perfect, due to some limitations like no friend or follow features in the Community, our team enabled the Community Activity Feed on profiles within the community as it was an existing feature available from our forum providers. Some of you may even remember seeing it briefly back in 2021 when we updated the Community.
The community profiles only have two options Public or Private, and the Private option makes the Activity Feed unviewable by others. The next best alternative to utilizing the Activity Feed would be to create a Private Group to invite your to and interact with them there.
I know these options don’t “replace” the Newsfeed by any means, but we hope they help give some members some options to interact with others outside of topic driven discussions.
Bad justification for a bad idea. Leave the newsfeed alone. It is where I get my support.17 -
I’ve been here 13 years. I’ve lost 120-ish lbs. I’ve been through divorce, births, deaths (family, friends and people on my friends list), and entire life of a treasured pet, countless life events, and the one thing that has gotten me through all of that was the support of the people on my newsfeed. I’ve met some of the most important people in my life on my newsfeed (or via connections with others who are on my newsfeed). I’ve been on multiple journeys (international included) to meet and vacation with the people on my friends list.
Was there actual data collected for determining how many people use the newsfeed? Or was it a poll of the 50 or so very vocal, very frequent forum contributors who, generally speaking, don’t use the newsfeed (as they interact publicly via forums).
It’s tragic that the few pieces of mfp that make it worth signing on every day have now been chipped away to nothing. There are plenty of social media sites that do social so much better, plenty of other calorie counting options. There’s really no reason to be here at all anymore.
Thankfully, the “very few” of us who have made deep connections here have plenty of other options. Hopefully those other options won’t also remove the primary feature that makes their site a better option than the bazillion or other alternatives. A feature that is primary in the advertising for why mfp is different and better.
What an absolutely absurd decision.

Allow me to offer a translation of Betty's post..
We are tired of breaking the news feed every time we upgrade our ad serving applications. The feed is too old and does not support current ad serving standards. Yeah we know you love it but if we cannot show you more ads then you might as well not be here. Come see your new activity feed with state of the art ads!
Anyone remember when users had blogs? They were insanely popular. So popular that MFP tried mixing their paid ad blogs in with them to get some accidental clicks. Did it work? Nope. So they took away the user blogs in the belief that users would start clicking on them if there was no competition from user blogs. Now all we have is ad blogs that absolutely no one wants to see.32 -
The newsfeed is one of the only reasons I have stuck around here for so long, with the constant issues. I’ve had to create new profiles and add friends again when tech support couldn’t figure out why my app kept crashing, but I did it (twice) because of the friendships, and the newsfeed is a pivotal part of that. Some of these people have been friends of mine here since 2013. This is starting to feel like a social experiment where you see how far you can push people until you drive them all away. Without the newsfeed I might as well go to a logging app that’s functional.19
-
So then what is the point of mfp without the newsfeed? Other apps count calories better, let us scan barcodes for free. Have been here 12+ years and I am here for my friends list and news feed not for anything you can provide me nutritionally or diet wise. This is a poor choice.17
-
Im surprised MFP didn't try to make this a premium feature lol.
Can't add anything that all the reasonable people have already mentioned.
So RIP MFP. You won't recover from this poor, lazy, decision.21 -
I have canceled my premium subscription and am switching apps since this one is not worth the trouble anymore. People need social interaction to stay on track with healthy habits. Community is so incredibly important when it comes to healthy behaviors, and that was what made MFP special.
For whatever reason, the MFP team can’t keep the app working correctly. Maybe it’s outdated code, maybe it’s ads, or maybe the team doesn’t have the right people. It is going to take some very talented and hard working folks to create a calorie counting app that doubles as a proper, non-glitchy social media app, but I am hopeful that someone else will pick up the torch and run with it.14
