How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds

Ooooh, this is a mistake. Y’all are running this app into the ground - what a shame!13

Why don't you just change the name of the site to NoFitnessPals while you're at it?40

The newsfeed has been a lifeline for me from the very start of my journey. I tried posting in the community on my very first day of joining MFP with no luck in making any friends. EVERY friend I've made has been thru the newsfeeds. As far as the "upkeep" that @betty referred to as the reason for its discontinuation, I disagree and further deduce that it's more of the fact that the advertising shown on the newsfeeds wasn't producing enough results to warrant any further life of the newsfeeds. These things ALWAYS boil down to money, which is inherently born from greed. It wasn't MFP who supported me when I needed, cheered me on when I did well, or encouraged me when I didn't. It was the "fitfam" created inside those newsfeeds. That is where the REAL value is. When corporate mongers can't see that kind of value at the fundamental level, how can anyone else believe there is any worth left in the stripped down product that remains?

Hi y’all, Wanted to first acknowledge that saying good bye to any feature is hard, and I too am sad to see the Newsfeed ride off into the sunset. I do feel strongly that social interaction is important for a lot of folks on what can often be a lonely and difficult journey and having friends cheering you on can make a difference.
I’ll be transparent that the Newsfeed was one of our oldest features that had many flaws and was no longer sustainable to support. While it was not used by many we understand that it’s a real loss for those who used it.
While it is not perfect, due to some limitations like no friend or follow features in the Community, our team enabled the Community Activity Feed on profiles within the community as it was an existing feature available from our forum providers. Some of you may even remember seeing it briefly back in 2021 when we updated the Community.
The community profiles only have two options Public or Private, and the Private option makes the Activity Feed unviewable by others. The next best alternative to utilizing the Activity Feed would be to create a Private Group to invite your friends to and interact with them there.
I know these options don’t “replace” the Newsfeed by any means, but we hope they help give some members some options to interact with others outside of topic driven discussions.
That's cool. And I get it.
The Newsfeed was clunky and disconnected to the Community. It was just an extra thing to open, and only to see that this person logged their meal and that person did some exercise.
I stopped using it a long time ago.
A question - will the food diary and, more importantly, the exercise diary still be available? And reports?

QUESTION: A person I know on the community (not one of my official friends here) said she added something to her activity feed. I click on her profile and did not see it. What I did see was that I could add a photo and post to her feed even tho we are not friends. So either public or private. Seems like a super place for spam to get loaded onto if you are public? How are we going to monitor these things? At least with the newsfeed only your friends could post to your profile if you set it that way. I know we have a lot of trolls visiting the site. I am NOT looking forward to when they figure out they can send trash to anyone who is public. 😳😳😕12

After almost 15 years I am logging out. I used this community to meet like minded people and boy did I ever. Some of the best people in my life have come from here. The newsfeed was my place to vent an talk to my friends, you know the people that I CHOSE to have a connection with.
I loved the fact that the newsfeed allowed me to keep up with the people I have for so long without having to scroll other social media or go to each individual profile.
Groups? Great solution except I am not friends with all my friends friends, so that is not a viable option for me.
It's just the end of another era I guess. So long and thanks for all the fish?27 -
Has there been an official announcement regarding the newsfeeds?2

Someone posted the link for you. I just want to add this is another issue with what MFP is doing to it's customers/users. Blindsiding them. One little post in a forum no one likely visits that often. I'm guessing this is intentional so they can continue to hide by their statement the newsfeeds weren't used that much. *kitten* action by what turns out to be a *kitten* company.14 -
I too am a long time premium user, no need for that following this change. While I have tolerated without complaint all of MFPs system glitches over the past 12 years, this change I cannot. The newsfeed is the reason I show up specifically to this app every day. It provides feedback with a select group of people that have become my fitness family. I can be honest, vulnerable, frank with them about my struggles and successes. There is accountability, encouragement and motivation with people I choose to have as part of my journey. I do not have any interest in doing that in a large public forum with strangers. Your suggestions for making groups and checking individual activity feeds is not an effective strategy that will be used by most. MFPs decision on this has eroded the fabric of what makes this a valuable app. The community section of this app is archaic and not easily navigated. Long and now short. You have just killed your app's primary selling point. Connections help us drive change.25

This is so tremendously sad and whomever made this decision, if they have any empathy, should realize that you in real time made people less happy, less healthy. In this war torn, hateful world, you have taken away a small thing we had to support each other. I can’t fathom how you can justify making so many so sad.20

I feel like in protest, we should all decide to not use the app on a certain day or week. Post this on all our feeds8

It probably seems really trivial to the devs, but the fact that my exercises etc are posted without further thought or action needed on my end has been really helping me stay consistent. No one is going to all their friends' activity feeds one by one every day to comment on them, but giving a like when you first open the app is really easy and motivating.
I've been using the app for over 10 years, but only this time I've been able to stay consistent because of the people on my feed. There are better apps out there for tracking (without the constantly increasing paywalls), and better places to keep in contact than MFP forums. The combination is what made me stay. Take that away, I think a lot of people will leave or lose motivation.12 -
I can't remember the last time I posted in the forums as I've been here long enough (since 2011) to remember when MFP took away the functions that made the forums fun and worth interacting, but here I am, because MFP is about to make yet another huge error in judgment. I haven't logged a single bite of food in this app in over 10 years, and yet I log into MFP again and again for one very simple feature - the Newsfeed. Despite the glitches and the shutdowns, we kept coming back, hitting refresh, logging in and out, just to see if MFP started working again and made our Newsfeed visible. We complained, we growled, we were annoyed, BUT we always came back. It certainly wasn't because MFP is such an amazing calorie tracker. I sincerely hope your paid users are part of the "few" members who use and love the Newsfeed feature and make the right decision to take their money elsewhere, because we all know those of us who do not pay for premium are of little consequence. You are making a grave error here, MFP. Hopefully it's not too late to save your downfall.14

12 years and 130# lost, gained 40 back, working on it all the time because I get motivation and feedback from my fri6in the news feed. Hard to believe that UA ran this site better. This *kitten* sucks9

I've been here since 2016. I've used other calorie counting apps, and to be honest, they were all more accurate than MFP. But it was the news feed that kept me here. I've lost 72 pounds and maintained my goal weight for a year or more, ALL because of my friends cheering me on. I've already had friends leave for other apps because they couldn't log into the news feed (the dreaded strawberry!). So now you take it away completely? I don't think any of my 327 friends will be sticking around. All of my friends are active, and all use the news feed. No new feed? Yeah, no reason to stay. Bad decision from a lazy or poorly trained tech crew.10

I have been here since 2012, since the "good old forum days", through all the buyouts, and all the "improvements". Like so many others have already said, this has been my haven from the insanity of life both real and virtual. It has been my safe space, not because it was a fantastic calorie counting site (because that I haven't used in a decade) but because of the people on my newsfeed. It has been a place to share things with people who get it and get me (relating to health but also the real life challenges we all face). Knowing that you are taking away the one thing that has kept me coming back through all of the coding issues/changes, leaves me with nothing of value at this site. My friends have shared my sorrows, my celebrations, the struggles and the triumphs. Even through the chaos of life, I always made time to come to this site to see how my friends were doing. The newsfeed was my social news channel where I could connect with those I care about. I've logged in for 4294 days in a row. I would like to continue logging in, but see no value without the newsfeed. Please reconsider a rash and ill thought out decision.12

I am here for the newsfeed…support, humor, friendship, advice. Keep it or I’m gone unfortunately.13
