NSV means 'Non Scale Victory', what have yours been this week, share your success!

Mine is fitting into a dress that I bought almost 3 years ago and fell in love with but it didn't fit (by a long way). I loved the fabric so much I bought it anyway and planned to alter it... Or something. Needless to say it ended up at the back of the wardrobe and forgotten. I cleaned out all my fat clothes and found it... And put it on... IT FITS!! Wahoo!

I went out to eat for my birthday and only ate 5 french fries. I usually can't stop with fries so I don't order them at all. But I was able to have a taste and enjoy a small amount.

I asked a family member (that I had never met, so she only knows me from now) for a diet soda and she asked why on earth I would drink diet. Woo-hoo

My goal was to fit into everything in my closet, and I wore my formerly tightest work pants the other day, and they fit comfortably  I thought I'd have to lose more weight to do it, but I think the exercise was the trick.

I started with fitting into a size 16....tightly.

I started working with a personal trainer a month ago (tomorrow). I was so discouraged at the beginning cause I GAINED. But after 2 weeks the weight started coming off. I've only lost 7 lbs so far but my jeans are really loose. So I went shopping today. I grabbed 3 pairs of Levis 515s...sizes 16, 14, and 12.

Size 16 - too large, can take them off without unbuttoning
    Size 14 - fits....but a little loose

So, I tried the 12. OMG!!! I can button and zip without sucking in. Still a little tight but WOW!!!!

    1. I bought a pair of size 8 capris.
    2. I went and bought size medium scrubs and scrub pants and wore them to work and EVERYONE noticed my weightloss.
    3. I woke up at 4:50 AM the other day so that I could go for a run before work.

My NSV this week was my running shorts, I had to tie the drawstring to keep them from falling down while I ran. First time I've had to do that :)

Last week bought 2 pairs of size 8 pants. This week a co-worker told me she could tell I was losing weight.

I am able to wear my Mothers Ring that I got several years ago -- I took it off about two years ago because my fingers were too large to wear the ring comfortably!! I slipped it on today and it fit!! WOO HOO!!

For the first time ever in my life, I woke up before 6am to exercise! (Previously I had had problems sleeping, usually slept at midnight or 1am). I've always been an evening person so this was a big deal for me.

I didn't think I could do it again but today I woke up again before 6am and added half a kilometre to my walk!

    1. After a couple of months of working out consistently, I led a group of women (beginner level) who live nearby in an exercise "class" following level 1 of the 30 Day shred. I'm so glad I can help others start to get stronger!

2, While I showed them modified versions of moves like for push-ups, I was able to do full-form push ups without pausing myself, something I could;t have done a few months ago.

    Yay for getting stronger!
  • My Non-Scale Victory for this week is that I can fit more comfortably into chairs with arms. Before, I had to perch on the front edges to avoid having my hips pinched.

My mind seems more focused on being healthy this week than it has for ages! No cakes and minimum chocolate! xx
  • Mine's a confidence one. Last week on holiday we went out on sea kayaks. I was a bit nervous as had never done it, although have canoed on rivers. Hubby and son were in one, I was on my own in another. Son has autism and he was nervous about getting in I held his kayak while he got in. By the time I'd gone back and got mine into the shallows everyone else was about 15m out (tide was in so very shallow for quite a way). Even though it was not very rough I just couldn't get my head round how I was going to get into the kayak without it tipping over, and the more I thought about it the more freaked I got, and there was no-one nearby. A couple of years ago I would have given up at that point and just said "oh I just decided not to do it" and sat on the shore. I took a deep breath, and shouted to the instructor that I needed a hand. At that moment someone came from the shore to help, and then the instructor came back. I got in and was off.
So the NSV is that I didn't give up, I asked for help (even though it was a bit embarrassing) and then confessed to the instructor I was nervous. I felt the fear - and then I did it anyway - when in the past I would have given up! I really enjoyed the session after that!

Not exactly a victory... but after an exceptionally bad alcohol experience Sunday night into Monday, I spent a good day and a half trying to recover and figure WTF was wrong with me. Then I realized my weight loss over the past 9 months had totally changed a lifetime's worth of alcohol tolerance.

Yesterday, I went in a bar after work, drank diet coke and went home at 11pm. I was tired and really didn't want to cook for my dinner. I needed to eat 538 calories to reach my daily allowance. I tend to be scared to eat now that I want to loose weight and NEED to get my calories in.
Anyway, I had some Nutella in my kitchen (it's my boyfriend who bought it, this stuff is lethal for me...) I took 100 grams of it (530 calories, about 5 tablespoons), SAVOURED it as I never did and put the jar back on the cupboard.
I went to bed, didn't think about it again. That didn't triger a binge. I used Nutella as a tool to loose weight and not to numb myself.

    For me, AWESOME NSV!

My dentist told me I looked really great and really healthy!
He said he wanted to tell me last week (after my first visit in about 5 months), but he didn't know how to word it so I wouldn't be offended! I said I'm not offended at all, and thanked him. It really made my day that a health professional told me I looked great, and very healthy.

My first NSV is an odd one.

It was my baby daughters first birthday party last weekend and I catered for 40 people- home made BBQ and it was GOOD.

My NSV is that even though I fell of my diet plan on the party day, I still controlled myself, and at my weigh in this morning I had still lost 2lb this (at the moment i'm on a VLCD, so have been losing 6-7lb/week, don't worry its fine).

For me this is amazing, as now only have I lost, in the past when I've failed, then I've totally failed and given up, but this week I've got back on the diet, and kept going. Really pleased with myself.
