LESS Alcohol ~ JULY 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

@NonnieDoiron Stick to your guns. Nice of hubby, but sometimes they don't get it.
I'm not doing so great. I wasn't going to drink. I wasn't. Monday we went out to dinner with family, and I did drink wine. Then yesterday, hubby was taking some of his stuff out on me and I got frustrated and bought wine. Ugh. I know that's no excuse, but it's how I cope even though I don't want it to be how I cope. I still have some left IN THE HOUSE, too, so I will finish that off tonight and then freaking do this. Again.

I'd love to join the group - had a rough time limiting the A this past holiday weekend, and I don't want to totally derail my goals! Summer is hard b/c you feel like you should be relaxing... same with holidays and weekends

I agree, I find it harder in the summer to moderate than I would if it were colder. Then again, who doesn’t want a nice red wine or cognac to warm up when the weather gets colder? I guess the temptation to drink more than planned is always there. We can justify anything! That’s why I love this group, everyone is here to celebrate the wins and commiserate with falling short of a states goal.

Two small glasses of wine tonight. It equals about 1.5 glasses. I’’ll take it.4

@MissMay Thank you! Yes, 2 are better than none!
@NonnieDoiron We are soul sisters...and not in a good way Keep on inspiring me, please!
@AF_Brat Welcome! Looks like you're starting off great!

Goals for July = Just showing up!
Closed on my home: 6/25 with intermittent moving through 6/27
Big Move on 6/29
Unpacking: Indefinitely!!!
I'm all over the place right now. Usually, ending the day with wine, not tracking food, and not intentionally exercising. I've given myself grace through the weekend to regroup with everything and then buckle down on all accounts until the end of the month. Then it's vacation time

I hope everyone is doing well and meeting their goals.
@Michieb125 ~ How's your ankle? How's the book? Any good insight? I love your positive attitude!
@Womona, I could have written your same post of 7/1 with a few swaps (lost in January, sort of maintained, and then crept back up last month with all the distractions). My husband usually offers up a mixed drink, and then I switch to wine. I, too, have been very consistent with exercise—I'd say it's been my saving grace! How's it going on the boat? Oh no...so sorry you couldn't get your sail up and had to be towed in.
@NonnieDoiron ~ I'm sure I missed it but how's your situation with your MIL and your husband's challenge? Good luck on your goals for July. Your ring looks a LOT like mine Glad you could get it back on and soon, permanently!
@globalhiker ~ love it!It's sooo hot. It's so hot I can't feel my hot flashes anymore.
@chicbuc and @2timesacharmmfp ~ good luck with getting back on track and hitting your goals and targets!
@SparkSpringtime69 ~ I had limoncello for the first time when I went to Italy in 2012. It was so good .I have not tasted anything remotely similar in the States, so I've given up, which isn't necessarily a bad thing!
@MissMay ~ Congrats on your 3 week streak~ That's awesome!!!!

@chicbuc we must be… let’s get together and have a drink sometime!😉🤣🤣
@itladyee, MIL is home and is SLOWLY improving. I think she’s trying to get sympathy from time to time, but she eventually ends up revealing her true colors. Hubby did his 17th out of 25 treatments today. Then, he’ll have to have a procedure to implant radiation seeds. He should be good to go by Christmas according to the doc! He’s finally being less dramatic about it. Thank you for asking!
The wine bottle remains untouched! Declaring today AF.

Good job not opening that wine!
Headed to bed and I did not drink!! I ate really terribly for lunch, though, but reeled it in for dinner and ended up a little over in calories, but nothing terrible.

@NonnieDoiron, thanks for the updates. I'm glad your hubby is being less dramatic. My husband opted for 5 treatments over 3 weeks of radiation, he's still dramatic though!

Back from our quick reunion trip to San Diego. All flights were on time and we had no issues which made travel much easier for me!
It was great to see old friends from way back and I did pretty pretty well navigating food choices and drinks galore. Particularly as activities, dining and meals were preplanned by two people who coordinated the event. About 30 people came in from CA, Virginia, South Carolina, and Arizona to attend. So nice to catch up on life stories! And even though I was worried about the open bars, I enjoyed but didn’t go crazy with guilt (thanks to wisdom from several of you)!
I found out a few folks had quit drinking all together and another friend lost his wife to a brain aneurysm a year ago. Not to be a downer, but a very close friend of my DH also has Parkinson’s disease and the physical progression over the last 5 years was very apparent. That was hard to see but happy he can still socialize and wants to. I was humbled and reminded that good health is truly a gift.
Okay, so I had some extremely delicious (and expensive) red wine two nights in a row and none last night.
Very happy I kept to my plan of AF last night!

@itladyee - Congrats on your real estate transactions and all the best with your move! They say that buying and/or selling are top stressors for individuals even when it’s for a good reason. My calf/ankle muscles are mostly healed but it did take over a full month of being super cautious and no exercise. Wearing more supportive shoes as well. Thanks for asking!4

So I haven't had a drink since Saturday night, which is a great/sightly weird feeling. Going into the weekend always stresses me out, but I'm trying to stay in the moment. It's my choice, not that calendar's right??
Going on a day trip tomorrow and want to wake up strong so I can enjoy the shore and a beach walk. Having a plan for the next day definitely helps me.
Healthy weekend vibes to all!

Woke up this morning and as I was sipping coffee glanced at the calendar.
Today marks 4 weeks with no consumption of any alcohol.
Good points are-
*Not tearing out my hair to keep from tipping a glass.
*Not debating with my self when we go out to eat whether to have ONE or not.
*Tuning out husband when I pour peach tea into a stemmed glass at home and he reminds me of all the alcohol based drinks in the house I could be pouring into my glass instead.
*Handling many stressful life situations recently without numbing them out of my head with booze. (This one should get 5 gold stars!)
Now to get rid of about four pounds so my knee has less weight to carry around.
Welcome backs to those who have been busy moving, vacationing and taking care of loved ones.
REMEMBER:
You can give up-
Give in-
Or give it ALL you got.
😁

LA friends, this morning I was thinking of what my personal best looks like….
Today, I’m going to give it ALL I’ve got to make better choices all around and thanks @MissMay for those great reminders. Congratulations on 4 weeks since no alcohol!
@AF_Brat you’re absolutely right! We can reframe how we approach the ‘weekend’ - keeping our goals in mind, and staying in the moment is a great plan. Have fun on your day trip!

Had friends and family here to celebrate MIL’s belated birthday since she was in the hospital on her birthday. It was great!
I did say I would not open my wine unless my BFF decided to drink, and she decided to drink on Saturday. I joined her, but we started around 3pm and stopped about 9pm. I drank 1 bottle of wine minus the 1 glass my sister-in-law drank over that 6-hour period. I didn’t even have a buzz, so it was just a good relaxing day.
My brother-in-law brought me 2 bottles of wine as a gift. So, I now have 2 bottles of wine on my counter.
I’m sure I exceeded calories for the day yesterday, but I’ve been very good all week. So, I’m hoping it won’t affect my weigh-in tomorrow morning too much.

New book share from the LA resource thread ……***posting for general purpose only***
Yesterday, I read the First Five Chapters offered for free in Alcohol Explained by William Porter. The book is for anyone who wants to learn more about the chemical, physiological, and psychological effects of alcohol using science based evidence in these areas — anxiety, depression, sleep, obesity, and cravings, etc. I found it to be written in a pretty straightforward and easy to understand way and the explanations so far are very interesting.7 -
