My Sunday walking friend called me yesterday to tell me that the doctor read the MRI of her knee and said she needed knee replacement. Her big concern was that she has reservations for vacation in Hawaii in December and is about to make reservations for a cruise from Los Angeles to Sydney in January and she wanted my advice about the reservations. She doesn't yet have an appointment with the surgeon and she thinks she might want to consult a doctor in Texas where her family is. She knows nothing about the surgery or the recovery so I suggested that she begin by talking to the local doctor and consider seeing the doctor in Texas to find out what will be involved in the surgery and recovery before she make vacation plans. I was glad to be able to help her focus on "first things first".

Jake and I don't do big physical projects together like some of you do with your husbands but we often tackle computer or technology projects and have had our challenges. Yesterday we finished the installation of a gizmo from our car insurance company that will lower our rates when they monitor our driving and see how safely we drive and how little. Part of the challenge is that I have an android phone and he has an Apple. We got through it with only a few cranky moments and my call to tech support. We do better with this every time. I didn't grab his phone out of his hand and he didn't say he'd never talk to me again.

Annie, You are doing an awesome job on your dad's birthday party. Letting people help is a blessing and a challenge. You are navigating that well.

Annie - nice the party plans are falling in line. Crossing fingers your dad will be OK with nephew getting the car. Good idea to get an oil change and have the car/tires checked before it goes to Ohio if nephew does buy it. Hopefully nephew will take care of that.

Vicki - glad you enjoyed your vacation but very sorry you and your DH were ill on the way home and afterward. And you lost another employee? What gives? They just don't like the job? Too much stress/sitting? They got a better offer? I remember the time people clawed to get any kind of job to make ends meet and stuck with it pretty much no matter what. At least I did. No job is perfect but it's an opportunity to learn new skills.

Flea - I really enjoyed that video, it gave me goosebumps!

Heather - glad your "plumbing" is settling down. Very happy to hear you are doing so well in your recovery.

Lisa - you and Corey are doing a phenomenal job despite the heat. How long is this furnace blast supposed to last? Looks like we'll be back in the mid 80's in a few days - typical for August. Reinforces my idea that April/May and Sept/Oct are the best months to get things accomplished around here.

Beth - your mom's birthday celebration sounded wonderful. Ouch with your back - hope it's just muscle strain or something a little PT will help. Good to hear your doc is working with you to get your health back on track. So easy to get derailed when we are focused on other's health, this I know all too well. Hope your DH can get your oven back in operation soon.

Barbara - glad to hear Tumble will be OK. Rosie likes to "help" me outside sometimes and she is either at the wrong place at the wrong time (underfoot) or disappears and doesn't come when I call her - she's picking a fight with a neighbor dog behind the trees where I can't see her but can hear the squabble.

Kylia - great news that your daughter has paid off the house. One less thing on your mind. Maybe now she'll no longer feel guilty?? and will resume good communication with you.

Kind of a busy day yesterday. In the AM, made a huge pot of mushroom/lentil soup to last the week - added browned ground turkey and some taco seasoning to pump up the protein. Wasn't sure how this would turn out, but it's fine.

Then had a phone conversation with my friend who works at the PUD (power company) about the my trees under the power line in their right of way - how many they might take out, when, etc. He said it's not his department but was able to give me plenty of info. Friend Charlie, who's a logger, will stop by and take a look one of these days, sounds like I might have a little timber worth some $$. I'm ready, actually, for them to take out most of those trees so I can get the mower back there and keep the blackberries knocked back.

Diabetes Prevention Zoom class in the afternoon was good. The topics are getting kind of boring but my classmates are interesting, lol. We share a lot of the same struggles, and I pick up some good tips.

After supper, I had a wonderful LONG phone conversation with an old high school friend, J, who I connect with every 5 years or so. Great talking to her - we need to do it at least every month! Hearing her joy telling me about her kids and grandkids gave me a lift!

I realize something I missed after I retired was being around younger co-workers. Kept me young. Like when I'm around T and her DH, in their early 50's and Rusty, 48. The age my kids would be if I had any. I'm so very, very lucky to have people like this in my life.

Well, I need to get off my duff and finish getting ready for Collette who will show up shortly. Another "kid" lol.

Heat spell here. That means over 100 every day this week. Started Sunday. I felt congested yesterday so took a decongestant and slept really well! Only got up once. But still feeling sleepy. I must still be fighting that virus I had last week. I need to see if I can find some new CoVid tests. Might be what DH and I have.

Dinner yesterday was a delicious salad with 1 cup spaghetti, 4 small meatballs and 1/4 cup tomato sauce with Parmesan to top it off. Salad dressing was a little avocado oil and vinegar. Supper was avocado toast and breakfast was muesli with last Oikos triple zero I have, 1 T of craisins and 1/2 banana. Snack was last tiny Halo orange. I need more fruit and veggies but have to wait until pay day, Friday to restock. I only have a large apple and a few bananas left. Still some veggies, but not much. Shopping time!!

DH is my personal chef and is having fun trying to meet my food ‘demands’ 😝 Healthier for him too. I actually enjoy shopping for fresh veggies and fruits. He does the meat. When he made the salad, he had fun making the ‘snowmen’ radishes! 🤪

Carol--This is not a bad place to work and we get paid good. Bad part is 12 hour shifts and a lot of down time. That is why I make sure when I interview they understand that. And nights can bring hobbies to work on or watch movies. But someone has to be here and be alert to answer the phones and codes. This last girl was only 23 and thought she could handle the night shift. Well it didn't agree with her marriage. I have also found that some people are really good at interviews. It's the working part they have problems with.
Going to be another HOT!! day and I am so ready for Fall.

Up a lot earlier than planned for the third morning in a row, thanks to the triplet kitties playing on the headboard right above my head, knocking stuff over. Up between 5:45 and 6 each morning(planned on getting up about 8:30. Fed them and tried to go back to sleep but couldn't.
Have the second load of laundry going and on my second cup of tea- watching the Olympics (more listening than watching.

Dh is still sleeping- he will get up in a half hour or so, shower then we will go to his mom's. I will walk her dog-longer than usual walk beings I don't have any class tonight.

Need to water the garden either while he is in the shower(if I can get off my butt and go out there) or when we get home. I have no other plans for today.

Lanette - The short answer on the weather is no - we're in the fires of Heck for the foreseeable future:

Then again... the foreseeable future, contrary to what weather.com would have you believe, above, has been less than 48 hours of late. Weather comes from too many directions here in the central US for the computer models to work consistently or well.

So, could be two hours or could be two weeks. Who knows? 😲 Arguing with the weather is top of my list of pointless exercises... 😂

We've put all the extra lumber up, swapped out the newly built pantry shelf for the old ratty one, which has gone on the burn pile for another day. And Corey, bless him, is out there in the bright sunshine of a 100-degree heat index afternoon, whipping around blowing up dust and grass clippings on the big zero-turn mower. I'm inside where it's cool and lovely and clean from all my various Energizer Bunnying from the prednisone. Settling in with some crochet and streaming History's Greatest Mysteries. Heaven!

Barbara ... an igniter is what my husband has purchased. My oven is out of warranty ... including the extended warranty ... so he's willing to mess around with it to see if he can get it fixed.
