I was actually really kind of anxious about my long run today. I don’t do runs over 2 hours that often, and runs over 3 even less so. It’s more of a mental game than anything else.
For sure there is a big mental component to multi hour runs. I still have these thoughts of whether I can do this every time I start a truly long run. I remind myself that I’ve done it before and that I did x miles last week, whatever it is. Usually after the first few miles I get into the zone and stop thinking about it. Idk why our minds play these tricks on us.
@teresa502 You covered a lot of ground in just 1 day! Rome is such a cool city. Something around every corner.7 -

Today felt like a turning point. I ran most of the hills, only walking 2 and those were the longest ones and one of them is also quite steep. I actually walk that one almost all the time. My HR would get pretty high on the ups but I wasn’t getting to the point where I was running the same speed I could hike and I was able to recover well enough on the downhill. It was still lower 70’s this morning but the humidity was very high for this area with a lot of clouds. We got some rain yesterday and it’s looking like we might get a bit more today.
My watch was having issues with detecting my HR today. It must have been sitting at a slightly odd position on my wrist. At one point I looked down at it read 128 bpm, I knew that was wrong. I moved it around a little and watched as it climbed up into the upper 140’s, which better matched the way I felt. So now idk if I can trust much of the HR data from today because who knows how long it was off or if it went off course again later in the run. I don’t usually spend much time looking at my watch during a run.
Well, I’m off to do a bit more weeding in case the cloud cover goes away and it gets too hot. I’m making progress. I doubt I will get it all done, but I’ll get the worst of it under control and hopefully the rest won’t get out of hand before I can get back.8 -
You are doing awesome @martaindale! Hope the good feeling continues.
@teresa502 you are really taking advantage of your time in Italy before the cruise. The pics look so cool.
I was feeling really sick all day yesterday after breakfast and into this morning. So didn't do my workout this morning. After work I was feeling better so decided to do today's workout on the TM. Speed intervals were on the menu. 15min WU/CD, 9x 1:00 intervals
Very surprised at the interval paces since I was on the treadmill. Most of them I was hitting 4:30/mi or faster. Granted they were only 1 minute intervals, but that is 3x longer than last week's workout.

Nice run @kgirlhart . I would worry if I saw a skunk on my run, but you never seem to have any issues with them. I really liked the butterfly too. It was cool to have it flitting around and landing on me periodically.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA ! I'm glad your motivation is returning.
You are doing great @Laurz9191 .
Great running @Mari33a . I seem to mess up my workouts every time too, by hitting the wrong button. So far Jeff Galloway has told me I'm doing a good job.
You are seeing so many things @Teresa502 . I love the picture of the Colessium lit up. I do have a question. I think I would have gotten claustrophobic climbing those stairs to the dome.
Great running on those hills @martaindale ! I hope your watch does better tomorrow. Good luck with the weeding. They grow back so fast.
That's very speedy @Scott6255 ! I'm glad you are feeling better.

60.15/60.00 goal
Met my monthly goal today. Since I still have 4 days to go and should do a slightly long run on Saturday, I should make 70 miles this month.
I worked at daycare this morning. I got home in time to eat a bite and then head to my mom's to meet my neighbor and mom mom's lawn. She got most of the push mowing done while I rode. It only took my less than 8 min to finish what mom couldn't do. Our neighbor did all the weed eating.
When I got home, I went ahead and did my planned drill workout on the driveway. It was hot, but I couldn't figure out how to do the workout on the treadmill. It was 89°F (31.7C) when I started out and 90°F (32.2) when I got done. The humidity, per Garmin, was less than 50%, so that helped as did the driveway mostly bein in the shade. Still, I took it a little bit easier/slower.
The running portion was at an average pace of 13:40 min/mile. Overall, my avg HR was 146 with a max of 170 bpm. Because I hit the wrong button, I didn't get good data on one of the cadence drills. The other three (30 sec of running at a fast cadence) were 9:44, 10:00, and 10:43 min/mile. Not horrible.8 -

133.69/130 miles completed for August
It was a pretty pleasant 73° this morning. It actually felt cooler and was a very pretty morning. It was a really nice run and I reached my goal for August. Hal's plan had me running 3 miles, but I ran 6. Then he tells me that I am overdoing it. The plan started me out at about half of the mileage I was currently running, so I don't think I am overdoing it. Tomorrow calls for a 30 minute tempo run. I am kind of ignoring the plan, but I do want to keep some of the speed work so I will probably do the tempo run, but then keep running until I get about 6 miles.
Love the Colosseum photo @Teresa502. What a great place to run.
@quilteryoyo We definitely have a lot of skunks around here. They are not usually aggressive though so if you leave them alone they will leave you alone too.

Got in 5.0M at 10"22.
Thank you @quilteryoyo and @Laurz9191
@Teresa502 loving the pics! Isn't Rome so much prettier at night? I personally, loved Coliseum and Trevor at night (latter - got some nice family photos too minus crowds!).
Look forward to hearing about Naples

Hi everyone!
I did an easy 8.3km this morning. I made myself put my headphones away at my turn around point. I thought it might be a good idea to get used to being unplugged a bit before my race. My goal here is to complete one unplugged or partially unplugged run a week until my race. I was thinking though that Berlin is going to be much different of an atmosphere than the sounds of nature (and of my car key jiggling) that I heard running next to our slow flowing river .
294.8/270km for August. Tomorrow will be a hard one! 10x 800 meter repeats .7 -

20 min run before yoga class today - felt REALLY good, was at my turnaround spot with plenty in the tank, and for the first time feeling it in my glutes afterwards instead of just my quads and hip flexors. I hope this is good news?!

Longer run this morning. It was super foggy when I set out so very humid but it burned off quickly as the sun came up. I only saw 1 deer, a new low for runs on this trip. I ran most of the hills again, selecting the steeper, longer ones for walk breaks so I wouldn’t burn all my energy too early in the run.I thought it might be a good idea to get used to being unplugged a bit before my race. My goal here is to complete one unplugged or partially unplugged run a week until my race. I was thinking though that Berlin is going to be much different of an atmosphere than the sounds of nature (and of my car key jiggling) that I heard running next to our slow flowing river .
I think it’s smart that you are unplugging for some runs leading up to race day. For me, the difference between the quiet of training and the noise of race day is such a boost. When you can keep yourself on pace and motivated for several miles, the music and cheers carry you so much more. I have also done races that were quieter than expected and I was prepared because I trained that way.

@kgirlhart Glad you had a pleasant run yesterday morning. Fortunately, most animals aren't aggressive if you leave them alone. I've read that skunks will do everything they can to avoid spraying, unless it's mating season, because it is their only defense and it takes a while to produce enough to defend themselves again.
Nice running @Laurz9191 .
You are doing great @AmunahSki !
You are doing great with the hills @martaindale . I saw three deer in my driveway yesterday.7 -

62.40/60.00 goal
I went to the gym a little bit earlier today than normal. Workout was legs, arms, and core.
From there, I went to the tennis center to get ready for doubles tennis with my more social group. It was fun and me and my two partners won the two sets we played.
I had an appointment to get the oil changed in my car at 1:30, so didn't really have time to go home and come back to town. I tried to use my time wisely. I cooled and rested about 10 min and then did my run at the tennis courts. There are two sets of three courts separated by about 0.50 miles. I decided to run around the inside of the court fences and walk between the courts. I did that for 1.5 miles and then walked 0.75 miles to cool down. It was pretty hot by then - 82F (27.8C). My running pace was 13:13 min/mile. The last half mile was at a 12:26 min/mile. Not horrible. Avg HR was 142. Max was 162 bpm.6 -

Morning! Day 2 at Sea. Yesterday I went to a yoga class then used the elliptical, and then went to a boot camp class. Had a wonderful massage in the afternoon. Today I ran 3 miles on deck (10.5 loops), did some upper body weights and then the treadmill for 2 miles at alternating inclines.View from morning run.9

139.71/130 miles completed for August
It was another pleasant 74°F morning. Today the plan called for a 30 minute tempo run about 2.4 miles at a 12:16 pace. I wanted to see how close I got, so I stopped my watch when I finished the run. I ended up with 2.7 miles in 30 minutes with a 11:09 pace. I thought that was pretty good. Hal says I overdid it. What Hal doesn't know is that after I finished the tempo run, I started over and ran another 3.3 miles. So overall I ran 6 miles.

Hi everyone!
My run today was sooooo hard. After all 10x 800 repeats, I was running on empty and had nothing left in the tank for my cool down. All the heat training I had in France has vanished and today is the first really hot day I've been out running in weeks. It was truly a mental and physical grind. I even stopped at the creek on the way back to the car for several minutes to try to cool my core down by soaking my hat and shirt and splashing everything else with water. I would have jumped in, but who likes running in wet shoes? I am really glad I did the run (which was 3km longer than I had calculated it would be), but I think that was among the hardest runs I have ever completed. I was ready to throw in the towel after repeat number 3, but still kept at it. Looking at the stats, I spent 1 hour and 20 minutes in zone 5 - which is maybe why I feel so wiped out.
Anyways, I ran, limped and even walked my way to 21.2km today and am now at 316km for August. Only a little over a 5K to go before I am at 200 miles!8 -
You've got 200 in the bag @tarun_yadavA . Excellent.
@Teresa502 Beautiful. You are doing so good getting in all that exercise while on a cruise. Amazing.
Hal doesn't need to know everything @kgirlhart ! That's great running.
Great running @Laurz9191 ! I'm sorry it was so hard. Congratulations for getting it done! You've got 200 miles in the bag too! Fantastic running.6 -
@Teresa502 wow, sounds like you are exercising more on vacation than when you are home Glad you got a nice massage. Now go hit that buffet!
@Laurz9191 dang 1 hour 20 min in zone 5!?? Yeah no wonder you were zonked! You are really tough for getting through that workout!
It was hot this morning as usual, and the easy 5 mile run felt pretty hard. But might get some rain this weekend for the first time in August, so maybe I can run in the rain on Saturday 🤞

I hope you get that much needed rain @Scott6255 . Any run in the heat is going to feel hard. You did great.

Going to go ahead and post since I am not planning on anymore intentional exercise today.
I did the drill workout Galloway had planned. It was a little bit easier today than Tues, since the temp was about 20 degrees cooler, even though it was humid.
I always seem to hit the wrong button when I switch from warm up to the cadence drills. I missed getting a good reading on the first of four, but the other three were at a 11:33, 10:12, 10:12 min/mile pace. The slowest one was up hill. Overall, the running (with walk breaks) portion was at a 13:31 min/mile pace. Overall avg HR was 141 with a max of 162.7 -
Woot. I'm at 192 of 200km target for the month and a few more days to go. I think I might ace this.8

145.73/130 miles completed for August
It was a pretty morning. It was 75°, so not really cool, but still cooler than the last few weeks. I totally ignored Hal's plan for a 3 mile base run and just ran my usual 6 mile run.

Last run of the month, and I needed 3.4 miles to get my target, so my route was meticulously planned last night. Got a 5k PB - and I wasn’t even trying to run fast, it was a side effect of needing to get in the distance (and post run stretch) before starting work, so that’s a cherry on top.
It’s lovely having a group of people to share this new journey with - hubby just thinks I’m nuts, and I’m shy about sharing my latest PB’s with anybody else. Thank you for the motivation, and your life updates and stories.
My daughter is taking me to visit my son and his fiancé this weekend (wedding dress shopping with her), so we’re going running on Sunday morning together ‘for fun’ while my daughter has a lie-in… oh, how times have changed!7 -

I always seem to hit the wrong button when I switch from warm up to the cadence drills.
Just out of interest - I’m still 4 weeks from finishing my first Garmin Coach program - what button do you need to press for that?
I ran the ‘optional’ additional minutes the first few times because I didn’t realise I could press ‘lap’ to skip it (now I know I can, I don’t!).5 -
Morning all.
Got in 8.32 miles at 08"28. Stepped on it. Thought bring up 200 in style

You've got this @WarmJellyfish !
Nice job ignoring Hal @kgirlhart . Glad it's a little bit cooler.
@AmunahSki Congratulations on your 5K PB! You are doing great. I agree that this group is great for sharing and motivation. Most of the people I know IRL could care less and just don't understand. Enjoy your visit (and run) with your son and dress shopping with his fiancé. Congrats to them. What is a lie in?
Wow! Amazing @tarun_yadavA !4 -
@quilteryoyo thank you 😊
And well done to @Laurz9191 ... Beat me to it (+1 timezone though lol)
Some phenomenal running this month!!5 -
Hi everyone!
Unlike @tarun_yadavA I did not run my final 6.1k for my 200 miles in such a cool style! Great job!!!
My body seems to have recovered from overheating yesterday and the run was enjoyable. It rained last night which meant the slugs were out in full force and weather wasn’t an issue. Since I have 15km of racing tomorrow and probably should have taken a rest day today, I took it easy today . I am excited to see how I do in the obstacle course, as they usually also involve lots of upper body strength which I have done zero training for. I am sure it will be fun regardless of whether I can complete the monkey bars and co , but it would be nice if I could.
322.1/270 km for August.4 -
@quilteryoyo thanks!0

@WarmJellyfish big round of applause for your 200KM month! 👏👏
Congrats @AmunahSki for your 5k PR!
