Thanks for the positive comments @Teresa502, @SummerSkier and @quilteryoyo
Did a 2.5 mile walk this morning. I did go out at 7 this morning while the obnoxious insects were still sleeping. 64F humidity 96% dewpoint 64. Was reasonable since i didn’t run much, just a few jog intervals to keep the ankle from hurting.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday!
Cheers!8 -
It was a great picture for run #2300!

Stuck to the treadmill this morning. I tried a new trainer, and I like him. Most of my treadmill runs are in the 3-6 mile range and I prefer to do easy runs on the treadmill so I am running out of options with the trainer I like. When I started using the treadmill I avoided the ones with the mega elevation gains so most of the ones I haven’t done before are either several hundred feet of elevation gain or contain some sort of speed work or both. I’m getting more comfortable with the hills, but those tend to give me less mileage than I expect based on the time.
Long run tomorrow so I’ll be outside in the heat.6 -

I really didn’t plan to do a long run today but late yesterday I decided I needed a mental health day from work so I took it. I headed to a converted railroad trail and ran 5 out and 5 back. The temp was a nice 72F. I only saw 2 ladies walking near the trailhead and 3 bikers passed me on my way back to the trailhead. It was so nice and peaceful.@yiara – Please pop in when you can and share your vacation photos. Sounds like a great trip!
The trailhead where I started.
I didn't run across this swinging bridge - walking was wiggly enought!
Almost stepped on this little guy. No wonder he looks grumpy.
I may or may not have jumped up on this rock and did the Cupid Shuffle. Now you know why I don't run with music very much....
Great job RTY Team!

Glad you were able to run a little without hurting your ankle @daria0919 . Slow and easy return to running is the best way to go.
Wow @AlphaHowls ! The heavens were impressed as we all are!
Thanks @martaindale ! Sounds like you found a new virtual trainer that you like. Good luck with your long run tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a bit cooler than expected.
@Teresa502 Great run this morning and love the pictures! I hope your mental health day worked and you are feeling rejuvenated.

I went to the gym this morning. I did mostly legs again. Part of the workout was treadmill walking. I did 5 min twice (0.33 and 0.35 miles). I ended my workout with a .82 mile walk to make a total of 1.5 miles so I could get my mile in for the day and not have to do anything after work and before heading out for mom's last 89th birthday dinner.

Afternoon all.
Got in 7.49M at 10"13.
@Teresa502 well done! Lovely run! .... Not long to go now! When do you fly? And where do you fly from/to? Must be excited!
@ContraryMaryMary good luck on your weekend of long running...
PS:
Where did @chris_in_cal go???
Did he make it to a 100 streak wise?

@tarun_yadavA Great running. I have been wondering about @chris_in_cal too. I haven't seen anything on Strava from him lately either. I hope he is okay. Update: Just looked and his last activity was the 13th.3
-
@chris_in_cal I hope that medication he started is not causing issues.... He was doing so well with his 1 mile streak!
Sweaty Sat run but slept well and amazing how much stronger I felt running. I set my watch for a 50 min run and was trying to get 5 miles in but I was about 3 min short so I ended up doing an hour and 5.6miles, Total of 80.5 out of 100 goal for the month.

01.08 4.0km 33min 8:11/km - slow
02.08 6.1km 50min 8:15/km - slow
03.08 strength
04.08 5.5km 45min 8:07/km - faster
05.08 5.0km 39min 7:49/km - fast
07.08 6.1km 50min 8:16/km - slow, 10min fast
08.08 5.0km 40min 8:03/km
10.08 5.3km 41min 7:40/km - 3x5min fast,1x2min fast

17.08 5.6km 43min 7:46/km - 8, 5, 7min fast intervals
total 61.75km
So this is odd: I seem to be doing so much better if I alternate faster and slowing running. No idea why. Maybe because I'm less bored, or I get motivated from trying to run 1 more minute faster or something.7 -

36.15/60.00 goal
Today's plan called for 10 min warm up, run/walk/run 2 miles, 10 min cool down. I walked 5 min of warm up and 4:41 min of cool down at 3.8 mph. I ran at 4.2 for 2 min, walked at 4.0 for 3 min, then did 11 x (run/walk 2/1 min at 4.5/4.0 mph), walked 5 min at 4.0 mph. I counted all but the 3.8 mph as running and came up with 2.99 miles at an avg pace of 14:05 min/mile. Avg HR was 138 with a max of 157 bpm. Still coughing a lot, but I do think I am on the mend.
I ran extra because I know that Garmin and the TM never match on mileage. I decided I'd do the run/walk/run until Garmin said I had gone 2 miles so that Jeff wouldn't get mad that I cut it short. LOL

I went to the greenway trail for my long run today. It was a brisk 77F. Obv still quite hot but after several 80F mornings, it actually felt slightly less horrible.
Toward the end of my run a bobcat crossed the trail maybe 10ft in front of me and disappeared into the woods. It was pretty cool. I knew they lived in this area but I've never seen one in the wild.6 -

I fly from my little airport to ATL on Friday. I will meet my friend there (she will be coming from Alabama). And from Atlanta we fly to Rome arriving Saturday morning. We don’t board the ship until Tuesday evening so we will get plenty of sightseeing time in Rome.
How exciting @Teresa502! My husband and I have been to Italy twice. Both were wonderful trips! You and your friend will have an amazing time!4 -
Went out for a “brief” walk to stretch my legs this afternoon and ended up doing the 1.6 mile neighborhood walk. Was 86F, feels like 94F, with thunder sounds coming from the west. Storm will get here within the next 30-45 minutes. I wasn’t planning on the full neighborhood, but once I got going….. pace was 16:49/mile. Sometimes it’s just a matter of actually getting out the door.
Pretty much all my Covid symptoms are gone now.6 -
Glad the weather was a little better for you this morning @martaindale ! Great run. I love seeing wildlife, but sometimes they can be a bit too close for comfort.
I know you are excited about your trip @Teresa502 . I hope you have a wonderful time!
I'm so glad that you're CoVID symptoms are gone @daria0919 . Great job on the walk and I agree that getting out the door is often more than half the battle.
Semi running related info in the spoiler, if you are interested.I got a notice in the mail today that I have been selected for jury duty starting on 3 Sept. My understanding is that on that day I'll get further instructions, but we are basically on call for a trial for 4 months. I think I'll have to call in every night to see if I have to come in the next day, if I'm not selected for a jury. That is going to make it really hard to make plans for an entire 4 months!
They say that they will try to accommodate appointments and vacations, but there is no guarantee. I was planning to run the T-Minus 10 Miler again this year, but now I don't know if I should sign up for it or not. I'll just lose my money if I can't go. Maybe I'll wait until after 3 Sept and see what they actually say at orientation.
Having part time part jobs is going to make scheduling difficult for everyone since I won't know if I'm really available until the night before. And all of the appointments that mom and I have. I'm sure I'll make it work, but right now it is sounding like a real pain.
I'm curious. How is jury duty handled in your area of the country/world?2 -

78.39/130 miles completed for August
I am posting two runs today. Thursday I got out for an uneventful 6 miles. It was a good run, just hot at 83° feels like 86°. The inventory went well on Wednesday but Thursday was busy entering all the info in. Luckily the guys have to do any recounts. I got them the list of discrepancies before I left and now I am on vacation until Wednesday. We decided to just do a "stay-cation" this time. It is too hot to do much and we have some things we want to take care of around the house. We did go out to eat at a place that does trivia on Thursdays and won 3rd place.
Yesterday I slept in too much and didn't get out until a little after 9. It was already too hot at 88° feels like 95°. I also tweaked my shoulder when I was brushing my hair, and it was hurting when I ran. So I cut the run short and just ran 2 miles. Last night we went to a sandwich place that has a bar and live music. It was pretty fun
Today is my usual rest day. My shoulder feels much better today. I've done a few things around the house, but it is just so hot. It is 104° feels like 108°. I am planning to get out early in the morning to beat the heat We'll see how long my long run will be.

Interesting that you’re bringing jury duty up @quilteryoyo. We just all received notice in our county that they’re going to be sending out jury duty notices soon. Four months seems really long. Last time I got selected I was still teaching full time at the university and I was considered essential, so I was excused from serving - that was at the state level. At that time the notice stated it would be no more than 2 weeks.
2 -
Hubby and I just got back from our evening walk, so that’s another 1.6 miles in the books.3
-
@quilteryoyo I hope your shoulder feel better soon. Happy Birthday to your mom! I love the pictures! That is awful about the jury duty. That sounds so inconvenient. My husband has been chosen for the grand jury before and I think they met monthly or maybe quarterly (it has been a while). But they knew when they were scheduled and didn't have to call in every evening to find out about the next day.
@cobtrarymarymary That bull does look really annoyed.
And hugs to your friend. I'm glad the tumor was benign and I hope she is better soon.
I have done a few month long streaks and it was fun. But I wouldn't wantbto do it for too ling. I really enjoy having at least one day a week that I don't have to do anything.
@scott6255 I am also so over this heat.
@summerskier Happy Birthday! I'm sorry I missed it yesterday. Sounds like you had a great day.
@daria0919 I am glad you are feeling better.
@martaindale I would be scared to see a bobcat, but I bet that was pretty cool too.
@teresa502 I can't wait to see pictures of your trip. I hope you have a great time.
I've been wondering about @chris_in_cal too. I haven't seen him post on garmin in a few days.4 -
@kgirlhart That sounds like seriously hard running conditions! Great job getting out there and doing what you can in the heat!
@daria0919 I’m glad you are feeling better and able to go out walking!
@quilteryoyo I was able to dodge jury duty the last three years I was eligible for it and still living in the US, as a carless college student. That sounds like a long time to not know whether you will be needed or not. I am crossing my fingers that you can still do the race!
@martaindale That’s really cool with the bobcat!

We went to a birthday party on Friday evening and didn’t get home until almost 1 am. I was way too tired to get up and do my long run yesterday, so I made sure to go to bed early and do it today. When my alarm went off I really considered just staying in bed, but I knew I would be disappointed in myself if I did. I got myself out of the house and the run ended up being really great.
I have run max 32 km in training before and it really drained me. Today I ran 30.5km and I felt like I could easily have continued. I was listening to an autobiographical audiobook called “Can’t Hurt Me” and at the end of my run the chapter was about the author running a 100mile race with zero training and conditioning which made my run comparatively feel like a walk in the park .
161.9/270km for August!5 -
Morning all.
Got in 6.24M at 09"53.
Great running @Laurz9191 !
@quilteryoyo called up for Jury duty once. But woulda been financial disaster for me as a Dayrate contractor. Paying the fine for not showing was cheaper... But I successfully managed to dodge that too. I got a Dr to write me a note saying I had backache (is an instance of back pain on my file) - on meds, and that I needed a special ergonomic chair, couldn't sit in one position for a long time and chronic back spasms.
Dodged it successfully2 -
Good Morning everyone. Yesterday, I was supposed to run/walk the Colts 5K. I'm not an Indianapolis Colts fan, but I love football. I have never missed a race due to traffic. Well, yesterday was the first & hopefully the last. Some folks even let family out on the ramp so they didn’t miss the race. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do that for I was doing this race solo. I was in this traffic for about 35 minutes before I decided to forget about it because I was so frustrated. I ended up going to a park on my side of town and complete my 5K, even though I didn’t get a medal. Also, I took out my frustration on some inclines.
835vscp4r34g.jpeg
My next race is September 14th. I’m not going to miss this one. Over halfway to reaching my 50-mile goal. I have 28 miles completed.8 -
It is interesting @yirara, but what is also interesting is when I had a running coach (a real person not an app) my runs varied between hard and easy – faster and shorter vs longer and slower. I think you’ve simply stumbled on a good training practice. Keep it up.
I would have freaked out at a bobcat @martaindale, but then again, I have no idea if they’re dangerous or not. We have no native animals here so any livestock you come across belongs to someone – think dogs and sheep. Way out in the bush you may come across deer or pigs, but they’re gonna avoid you at all costs. I was chatting to a friend about things that eat plants in the garden and I was moaning about rabbits and pukekos (swamp hens – a bird, not sure if they’re outside NZ and Australia) and she, an Australian, was moaning about kangaroos in her garden, and then there’s those of you with bears! We’re so soft over here.
So jealous @teresa502. I spent about a month in Italy about 20 years ago and have been hankering to go back ever since. Have a marvellous time.
Glad you’re pretty much all better @daria0919.
As for jury duty, I’ve managed to get out of it, first, because I worked for a very small publishing house and if I wasn’t at work the magazines would literally not get published, and the second time because I had a very young baby. I do believe in doing my civic duty and will do jury duty when my schedule doesn’t have so many people dependent on me. Four months is a big ask though!
@kgirlhart, I remember feeling so silly calling a run because of a sore shoulder – you just don’t expect your upper body to have so much influence when you’re running but it does! I hope it’s all good now.
Nice running @laurz9191, and impressive distance! So fab that you felt so good for it.
How frustrating @steviebee888. I’ve come close a couple of times – usually it’s finding parking that screws me. I’ve only missed a race once, and that was because I was chatting to my friend and not paying attention to the route and completely missed our turnoff. We only noticed about 20 minutes later! We did go to the event and were is time to run the shorter distance so it wasn’t a complete disaster. Another time, for the Auckland Half, I was held up on the ferry to the start line and missed the start by a good two or three minutes. In a race with over 5000 entrants, I spent the entire time, passing people, trying to catch up to people running my speed. By the time I did, I was in a mindset that I had to keep pushing and keep passing and ended up clocking a PB – not a bad technique!
I was due a fairly big weekend of running but it turned out to be a little less. I signed up to do course check for Parkrun and after doing it, was simply too tired to run it again (at pace) for Parkrun proper so I didn’t. Went home and had a second breakfast instead. On Sunday, I was scheduled for 18km and woke to torrential rain and howling winds so mucked about a bit. I had to collect my daughter from a sleepover at 11am and because of aforementioned mucking about, was a bit short on time. Thought I’d aim for 12km instead (I was still tired). As it turned out, I had a few spare minutes at the end of 12k so thought I’d run another kilometre or two. Promptly got lost, and by the time I found my car again, I was up to 15.4km. I was feeling good at this point and would have stretched it out to 18km except I had exactly one minute to go and retrieve my child.
After a week of unproductive running (thanks for the inspo Garmin), I figured why I was so tired – because last Sunday’s long run was delayed to Monday, I ended up running nearly 60km last week when my usual is 45. Whoops.

Thanks and nice run @kgirlhart . It's weird the things we do that makes body parts hurt. I'm glad your inventory went well and enjoy your staycataion. I hope you can accomplish the things you want to while you are off work. My shoulder is feeling better. I think I must have tweaked it mowing and then slept on it weird or something. I'm glad yours is feeling better too.
It's good to see that your husband is walking with you @daria0919 .
@Laurz9191 Getting out the door, or out of bed, is often the hardest part of a run. You did great. I didn't know that @tarun_yadavA was an author.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . I'm glad you were able to get out jury duty. Here, it being a severe financial hardship would have been enough to get you out of it.
I'm so sorry you missed your race @steviebee888 . Was there a wreck or something? Good job on getting out and doing the 5K run anyway.
@ContraryMaryMary Sounds like you had a great run anyway. I wondered if you were going to run Parkrun again. Sorry you were so tired, but can understand with all of the extra mileage this week.1 -

We had the first league match today. It was threatening rain, but we got it in. My court lost 1-6, 1-6, but we had some really good points and it was fun. We won the other two courts, so we won the match! Yeah us!
After I got home, I did a driveway wun. It felt good and I could have run a lot more, but didn't want to since it is supposed to be my "rest day" and I had already played tennis.3
