Ran/walked 2 miles on the treadmill this evening. Legs felt very heavy. But, I got it done along with strength training. My personal trainer gave me some body weight exercises focused on my hips: clamshell and fire hydrants. Can you say my hips felt like they were on fire 🔥, especially with the fire hydrants? 😰😢 😂 But, I know these will help with that tightness in my hips along with stretching.
Everyone have a wonderful evening!7 -
@yirara I hope you feel better today!
@shanaber Reading that makes me really sad. I hope you find that not pushing yourself will give you the opportunity to get out and get in some nice walks when you least expect it. Praying for peace and healing. I will miss seeing your posts and hearing about you and Hobbes at agility class. I hope you can enjoy your good days and your bad days are few and far between.
@ContraryMaryMary Glad you cut your run short and hope tomorrow is better. Shame on your hubby for leaving you in the cold and then complaining about the heat.
Nice workout and wun @steviebee888 .6 -
Afternoon all
Got in 5.75 miles at 09"25.
Not sure I turned a corner or anything.
Plan was to do a quick 5K... As per @ContraryMaryMary @Laurz9191 @martaindale (thanks ladies! ☺️). But then I came to learn there's a Brownie with my name on it later this evening. So didn't really want to be in a calorie surplus. Given I had under 1 hour before my 10am, i just decided to do the ushe but pushed myself a bit today.
@shanaber oh no. I will be sad to see you leave here. I hope you still keep posting your walks and Pelly on Strava , so we don't totally lose contact 😢

Oh @shanaber I missed your post yesterday when I hastily posted my run. I am so sad to see you leave the group, but totally understand. I hope that some rest will help you to feel better. And I do hope that you will come back occasionally and let us know how you are doing and update us with an occasional Hobbes photo. Sending hugs and good vibes your way.

I'm still doing a Garmin Coach kind of thing. Today was meant to be another 50 minute run, slow. I started too fast and also realized that running 6km two days after another is too much for me. So I fought to get to 5 at a faster pace.6 -

I am thinking about signing up for a half marathon this fall, so I decided to start a Hal Higdon training plan and today I ran a 30 minute tempo run. Hal said I overdid it. I ran the warm up and cool down quicker than I was supposed to, but the middle laps were spot on for pace. I did run 9 minutes longer than the plan, but that was because I misjudged the distance and I was still at the park when I hit 30 minutes and I still needed to get home. It was kind of fun to run something different though. I ended up with 3.5 miles. (I was aiming for about 3 miles in 30 minutes). It was dark the entire run and I saw a skunk at the park. I was glad I had my lights or I might not have noticed him.

Despite Garmin’s Performance Condition awarding me only +2 at the start of the run (compared to the +4/+5 I have been getting recently), today’s run DID feel ‘easy’ and I actually FELT faster (as if I had ‘more in the tank’), so the new PB’s did not come as a huge surprise. Take that, Garmin!
I don’t listen to music when I run, but hubby and I watched Saturday Night Fever last night and ‘Staying Alive’ was my earworm… I think it increased my pace! Maybe I should try some music on my next run? Who here runs with/without, and why?

Great run this morning @tarun_yadavA .
@SummerSkier . That's great mileage for the year. I assumed that armadillos in TX were like squirrels around here, a dime a dozen.
@AmunahSki Great run! Congrats on the PB! I sometimes ran with music on longer runs. It just gave me something to listen to besides my breathing and my feet hitting the ground. I haven't ran long runs in a while though. The cadence of the songs can affect your pace. A down side is if you are training for a race, be sure that the race allows headphones/music. If it doesn't and you've been training with it, it can negatively affect your race performance. I do have a set of Trekz conduction headphones that I love to wear when running, when I do listen to music. It allows you to still hear all that is going on around you and the music too.3 -
August 2 – 4.82 miles
August 3 – 3.01 miles
August 6 – 5.49 miles
August 7 – 5.06 miles
August 9 – 6.01 miles

I tried my new Brooks Ghost Max shoes this morning and they felt good. I’ve worn Brooks Ghost for the past several years but have been disappointed in the last few pairs so I decided to give the Max a try. I had a couple of gift cards from REI that I used to help offset the cost. My last new pair, I went back to Asics which was the shoe I wore when I first started running but wasn’t impressed with them either. I tried a pair of Mizunos but they rubbed the inside of my heel on one side so off to charity they went.@AmunahSki – I probably run with music about 15% of the time. To be fair, most of the time I run with friends so there is chattering to keep me entertained. When running by myself, I sometimes listen to music or a podcast or audio book but I generally run in rural areas in the early morning and I like hearing the birds and sounds of nature waking up.
This was the only color that came in a wide width. I hate that the manufacturers don't make all colors available to those of us with wide feet!

Yesterday I completed my 8x hill repeats. They went really well and the weather was quite amicable. I ran 12.2km.
Today I wanted to finally get a long run in again, but was pretty worn down from jacking up my mileage post-vacation, so I aimed for a 10 miler at an easy pace. I ran 16.2km (yes, sometimes I think in both km/mi). It rained a little bit, and there were plenty of my slug friends out, but the run was otherwise uneventful.
70.8/270km for August
@AmunahSki I always listen to music or an audiobook when I run, even though I won’t be able to use music during my upcoming marathon. It’s just more entertaining for me. Although there have been times I’ve misplaced my headphones on occasion and do find the birds/water noises entertaining as well. I listen to audiobooks on easy pace runs and music during speed work or in between audiobooks.6 -
@AmunahSki I always listen to music or podcasts. I hate to hear myself breathing, and the more distracted I am the better I have never been in a race that policed headphone/earbud wearing. Usually they discourage it, but it's mostly just a suggestion.
I have been staying off the streets for a while, just running on the TM to try to keep my shins from hurting. I will try to go out in the morning, but a little scared. Haven't run outside since the 1st.

I will drop in occasionally to see what everyone is up to but I won't be commenting to everyone or posting (aka @polskagirl01)

I never listen to music when I run because the one or two times I did try to run with music, I couldn’t help myself but run in time to the beat and so I was either running too fast or too slow.
Also, as I used to do a lot of my running and suburbia, it’s just safer to not have headphones and, especially as I like to cross roads using ears to check for cars rather than eyes as I’m too lazy to turn my head properly. Now that I run out in the country, it’s always nice to listen to nature.
I also like to be able to monitor my gait. It’s amazing how you can hear if you’re out of balance and are using one leg more than the other.
That being said, if someone with a gift me a pair of conduction headphones I’d be very happy to try it again!6 -
@shanaber I wish you all the best and You & Hobbes will be missed.
02/08 4.08 miles
09/08 4.07 miles
8.15/50 miles
I’ve not run for a full week. We’re having very windy & very heavy rain weather. This evening was sunny & windy so got a run. At times it was like running on the spot but omg felt great.
I don’t listen to anything mostly because I’ve Dakota with me & need to be alert for traffic all the time. But I love the peace & quiet and it gives me time to figure out both work & family stuff.
My brother is doing a 333km cycling race 2moro in a team of 2. In the past he’s won the 555km version of the race in a 2 man team, a 4 man team & going solo came 4th. He’s not taking this too serious but I know he wants to finish well.8 -
@AmunahSki I generally run with my watch only (no phone) and don't listen to anything. Much more relaxing that way and forces me to be alone with my mind (and all the other runners).
@shanaber I joined only recently, but appreciate this thread and wish you all the best
August 2: 4.2 miles run
August 4: 4.5 miles run
August 7: 4.9 miles run
