WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR OCTOBER 2024

Heather ~ I watched the video. Since we have lived in this home, we have had 3 or 4 stoves. They all had problems fitting in the space where they would fit. We had to remove the sides of the cabinet so this one would fit in so I am sure there is lots of food drops that fell through. Gross!
Allie ~ WOW! You are fitting a lot into your day getting ready for the cruise! Have fun and stay safe!
I spent almost 3 hrs. trying to get my printer to work with the new computer. Finally, after much Googling, found driver updates that would make it work. So glad we can find solutions to problems online.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Carol sorry to hear about your arthritis pain. Hope you can find a way to ease it. Are there stretches or exercises online? I know it won't cure the arthritis itself, but stronger muscles support more. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back thirty years ago, and it went away. Wrong diagnosis I think.
Rita sorry about your back pain, too. I hope the brace helps.
Allie the voyage has begun! Yay!
I walked in the forest with my Dad this morning. So now I'm tired. But the soreness in my hip is getting better. Yay!
Have a wonderful day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I took myself off to M&S this morning, as I wanted to spend DSIL 's voucher before she arrives on Saturday. I had in mind a top or a handbag, as I've decided I really don't like the one I bought from Amazon. I was attempting to get a fashionable autumn colour, but I just don't like it - it's not 'me'. Donating it. So I came up with this one, which is a lovely, soft, real leather, and very light to carry. The handle is long enough to be comfortable over the shoulder with a coat. It's a bit on the plain side, but I like it. It has a strong magnetic closure, Lisa, and a zip central pocket, a zip side pocket for credit cards, and an open pocket for a phone.
I complained about the loud music and the assistant agreed with me. She said she could get it turned down, but I was leaving by then.
I had to go outside the shop to get my barcode to activate. Grrr!
So, I.put some of my own money towards it, and I'm pleased. The other one was getting on my nerves.
Bought some Vanilla Slices for John for his birthday and some aged Manchego cheese. Plus a pork pie.
Came home knackered. I did have my usual lunch there - egg and watercress sandwich and a pot of Earl Grey tea. Just as well I went up early as it was very busy and when I left the queue was really long! Lots of old ladies like me, treating themselves and having a natter. No.music up there!
Much love to all. Just about to start wrapping presents.

Son and I went to Laumeir Sculpture Park near Kirkwood...It was so nice to be in an outdoor setting after 10 hours in a car the day before.
In the morning I connected with my mom's neighbor who was so kind to her and my dad...We walked our dogs together in the neighborhood where I grew up!

The morning after the reunion they had a service in the local park in a wooded setting. The setting was perfect. As we went around and introduced ourselves DrewB went around and got loved by those who attended.
Then a woman who I vaguely remember from High School got up and said she lived in same city as me. I talked to her before I left. It turns out she lives only a few blocks from me. I got her address and phone number and plan to contact her and have her over for tea/coffee.
Another sculpture from Laumeir...

Hi y'all Penny from Texas here. Just turned 50 and I'm battling 320+ pounds on a partially torn Achilles. So ready to get healthy and have a supportive community to help. Thanks for the group9

Went for the ultrasound yesterday but no results yet. After that, I went over to the ortho and got the back brace. After forking over $150 dollars, I found out that the brace costs $1,000 before insurance! I wore it under my shirt then went to the grocery store. I have to admit, even though it made me itch, it did make my back feel better.
Then, in the evening, I had a camper in the wrong campsite and had to take care of that. In doing so, as I got on the ATV to take care of the issue, I did something to my knee. I heard a pop then couldn’t put weight on it any more. I had a time pressing the gas pedal to get to the campsite! I ignored the pain the best I could until I took care of that problem, then rested the leg the rest of the evening. Got up this morning and the back of my knee is all swollen. Dr. Google says it sounds like an ACL injury. After all the doctors recently, I really don’t want to go again! So found a knee wrap and an icing bag. Took some Tylenol, and iced it after wrapping it. I will keep off it all day today and see how it goes tomorrow. I’m bummed because I just started that walking program! No running, jumping, or sudden turns so I really don’t know why, other than age, this would happen! If it’s not any better by tomorrow, I will go to the emergency ortho, which happens to be the practice I went to for my back. SMH 🤦♀️ Hope it’s better by tomorrow.
Dinner yesterday was simple lazy-man chicken. DH cooked chicken drumsticks with potatoes in the same pan, added a string bean salad with pickled beets and creamed corn.

Here are some interesting places I found on a walk Monday. We call the area Lower Lakes. This is where one of the developed campsites are (nobody was there). I’d never walked the path there before. It went on to the bottom of the cliffs, but I wasn’t sure I could go back up after I went down, so didn’t follow the path all the way by myself.
RVRita in Roswell being lazy today (maybe longer). 😒

Rita ~ Sorry to hear about your knee accident. You have had a LOT of medical issues lately but I guess a lot of that is our age.
Allie ~ How long will you be near your cousin's before you actually go on the cruise. And, you said your granddaughter was coming???? Did you mean your cousin's granddaughter?
Margaret ~ Sounds like your 50 reunion visit was packed with lots of good things. Liked your photos!
Heather ~ Nice new bag. I thought your other one you ordered from Amazon also looked nice. Sorry you ended up not liking it. I order a lot of things from Amazon too. Have found out that I keep ordering shoes that don't fit. Glad to be able to return them so easily.

Heather - I watched Cas yesterday too! Seeing her urk out about some of the forgotten places and trying to get appliances moved had me laughing for hours. Your bag makes me itch to paint it with a paintbrush...
Rita - Sorry about the knee, darlin'. You've got enough on your plate without blowing your knee out.
Mo - Always good to see you, darlin'.
Enjoying my morning, after another good night's sleep. Really enjoying THAT. Finally finished this piece, one more project box emptied, plus an instruction set for another... Pics in the spoiler.See... this is what happens when y'all give me ideas! Thank you, Tracey, for the ideas and generation for this.
Cleaning up after the finish of the project, Egg immediately took over one tray that had been emptied:
Hope you are having a good day, my friends,
Later,
Love,

Lisa ~ The bag looks GOOD! Like the inside pockets. That Egg cat is quite a character!

Rita - So, so sorry about your knee. Boo hiss. Mine is still protesting, but I can sense some progress.
Lisa - Great bag for an evening out.
I wouldn't have minded a bit more detailing on my new bag, but I'm so glad to have got rid of my other one. Fortunately, the old one was cheap.
Delicious dinner of stewed pork shoulder in white wine with leeks, carrot, celery, onion, potatoes etc. John was over the moon. Had it with brussel sprouts. Made it in the IP. Super tender. A bit of wholegrain mustard.

Thanks, Carol... Egg definitely keeps me hopping. 😛😹2

Tracey – one of the things I didn’t like when we had a Newcomer social at our house was that I spent so much time making sure there were enough forks, knives, plates, taking pictures etc. etc. that by the time I had a chance to sit down and enjoy the company, people were leaving!
Today was a sad, sad day here in NC, we had to close the pool (cry cry). Until March…. Our neighbor also came over with his trailer for us to borrow. The guys from Exodus Works will be here tomorrow at 2 to put the TV on the trailer. I got the chair that I want to take to the landfill up here, got all the batteries, etc. that I want to take in a box ready. Vince doesn’t think we can go tomorrow but I do. It’s only going to take the guys 20 minutes or so, and after that, how long will it take to take it to the landfill? Naahhhh...we can do it.
After we closed the pool, I went for my walk. I was able to find a way to walk in the neighborhood next to ours. Vince wants to rest. Truthfully, I’m getting a little concerned about him. Maybe I’m just being my worry-wort self. Made Jess’ bed. Really, why Vince couldn’t do the sanding in the garage and save me the work of washing everything is beyond me.
Carol – sending “feel better” vibes
No work tomorrow so the plan is to do a body pump DVD (haven’t done one in a while) and then water.
Allie – sounds like you’re having a wonderful time, and there’s so much more to go! So so happy for you
We had this stuff, Natures Remedy Oxy Formula. It was supposed to keep cats from peeing in spots, but it didn’t help Loki (this was before we realized his anxiety) so I poured it on the tree (mainly because I couldn’t find a spray bottle). Vince got upset that I got it on the carpet that the tree is on. But SO FAR none of the cats seem to be interested. But time will tell….. Personally, even tho they destroyed the bottom row of branches, to me, it looks more Halloween-ish
Gotta go get the porch ready for the guys tomorrow.
Oops...forgot to post last night. Well, I did a body pump DVD today and then the water. Had to go to the podiatrist. From the last time I went, it was much, much better. I could finally walk normally. But there was still something there.
Well, I went today, he cut out a bit more and said that I only need to return if I feel it’s necessary. Six months and $400 orthotic later, it’s FINALLY taken care of. Afterwards, went to Aldi
The guys from Exodus Works were here and got the TV on the trailer (which we borrowed from our neighbor), then we took it to the landfill. We were fortunate that there were these guys there putting something out and they helped us. Now home, I’ll take a walk either to the dollar store or to Food Lion. Bowling tonight
Loving all the pics
Penny – welcome!
Rita – so sorry to hear about your knee. Please take it easy
Lisa – I like all those pockets in the bag
Better post this before I forget again.

Hello Friends. Have just spent over an hour catching up with your busy lives.
Heather: Seeing your birthday photos brought back good memories of going to Shandiz with you and John. Glad you are getting out and about.
Carol: Your grand daughter is lovely. How old now???
Lisa: That purse is gorgeous!
Vicki: My heart hurts for the cruel way you are being treated at work. I can somewhat relate. My department went through leadership change. My position was eliminated and after a 24 year career, I was laid off at age 62. Out of necessity, I started taking my Social Security earlier than what is advised. And it has ALL turned out. I transitioned to being a full time caregiver for my DH and DB, which would have never happened had I still been working and traveling for business. Big hugs to you. Keep your chin up.
Allie: Rock on, girlfriend. Enjoying your trip vicariously.
Not sure how much I shared about the orthopedic appointment where I learned my excruciating hip pain was due to strained hip flexors, not arthritis. Doctor said my condition is curable with regular strengthening exercises. I have done the exercises (slowing working up to the prescribed number of reps and sets) almost every day. And good news is I am feeling the difference.
This is the time of year I begin working sports events. I just completed 4 shifts in 4 nights. All the work, except for one night involved 6+ hours of standing. I am so happy with how the hips and knee held up. Not perfect, but definitely stronger and less debilitating. Having the time to recover the next day is key. Lots of sleep. An easy workout on the recumbent bike, followed by about 45 minutes of stretches and strength work on a mat with a band. Then a hot shower. I wear compression footless socks and take one acetaminophen just before heading to the arena. This new exercise regime is on my gratitude list. I love the job because it is fun to be in the proximity of the professional hockey and basketball players. Love my boys!
Speaking of love....N will be visiting here in about a month. I have tickets to a fun symphony program, but otherwise nothing planned. He is a retired electrician and we have discussed a couple of projects I'd appreciate his help with. But I'll have to find more ways to spice up our 7th Playdate.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Heather - thank you! I try to make what I decorate with be truthful.
I love your new handbag. I’ve been struggling finding one I like for quite a while now. I did buy one at the thrift store a few weeks ago, but it’s not quite it either.
Terri - I would love to see a picture of you from the ‘60’s and in costume this Friday. What fun!
Annie - I hope you had a little success in your room today.
Barbie - so many don’t know how to deal with memory issues in their friends and loved ones, your friend is blessed to have you.
Machka - I don’t know how you keep up the pace you do with one project after another.
Lisa - I bet that one bad day causes a bit of PTSD though.
I love the clutch! I knew you could do it.
Lanette - my Fall scent is hay and potatoes. There is also a feel to certain Fall days that just makes me think of my childhood.
Margaret- it sounds like a wonderful reunion. I’m happy for you that you were able to go.
Allie - when does your cruise begin?
It looks like a nice little area for your wait.
Rita - good news for the brace helping. Sorry about your knee. That looks like a nice place to walk someday. I think you’re healing today not being lazy.
I made a little thing for Lauryn last night and tonight. She loves Halloween.
I had fun doing this one.
I booked my 5 vacation days I need to get used up before the end of the year. I am so thankful for this. I also booked 1/2 a personal day, have another 1 1/2 of those plus 5 sick days.

John enjoyed all his birthday treats. Amongst all the consumables, I got him some drawer dividers for his socks. At the moment they are just all crammed in to one big drawer, and are all weights and colours. If I asked him if he wanted dividers, he would say no, but he was quite intrigued when presented with these mystery objects and thought he would gratefully use them. They came in an anonymous box, so for a few minutes I let him try to work out what they were.
I'm making him a Salade Niçoise for lunch (I've cooked the eggs, still got to do the green beans) and Spaghetti Carbonara for dinner. I am drinking so little at the moment, just a splash in a very large glass of fizzy water, that it might not be worth opening the champagne we saved from my birthday when I got the UTI. We could have that with Sue at the weekend.
We will be having a painting session this afternoon, as he's been saying we haven't had one recently. He was talking about a collage this morning. I want to have a go on my big canvas.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5
