Mo - Happy Birthday! Sounds like you're treating yourself, and that's absolutely wonderful. I want to see me painting again, too... but like writing, it will eventually return. Like everything else about me, my artistic inclinations apparently aren't always able to multi-task! And these days, I go where they pull me. It's a lovely feeling.
Barbara - So sorry you're in paperwork heck - which always reminds me of Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light and ruler of Heck, from Dilbert. Loved that comic in my workdays... and the insufficient light thing has definitely come back to haunt me since! 🫤😹👀
Barbie - It was an interesting negotiation, pounding on Corey's pointy little head, to get across that making me too much food just means he eats too much, because I simply won't. Glad to see other people making inroads into your life - that kind of community support is important.
Woke up at 3:30, but it's the first time this week I was up far too early, so I'm pleased, overall. My sleep schedule is about to go all to heck (ha! 😑😍), as Corey will be off again for four days starting Saturday. That's all right, it's not like I have anywhere to be.
Spoke to friends at length this week, my daughter and my son, will probably call my sis this morning, she's usually up early, and that will finish drawing my circle of the people that I care about closed for this week. I've got earbuds, and that's when I get chores finished, when I'm on the phone with people. The sound is probably annoying on their end, but I end up with a very clean house when I'm talking a lot.
Busy with a couple different projects, but none can be worked on at the same time, so I just go from one to the other and back again. Time to get my second cup of tea going... and get on with the next thing. Probably throw the sheets in the wash, but can't yank them out from under Corey's sleeping body, so they'll have to wait -- he'll be up and moving in about 15 minutes.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR5 -
Dinner yesterday was Shepard’s Pie ala Kevin, he used onions in the burger, peas and carrots instead of corn and only put the potatoes on top. When I was a kid, the potatoes were on both the bottom and the top with just a little filling of plain hamburger and corn to feed a family of 5. Potatoes were free from my grandparent’s garden so one way to stretch the burger and 1 can of corn. Unfortunately, no picture.

The ones I've had (and still have) are the almost classic Shepherds Pie. Mine have been with beef mince rather than lamb so I guess that's technically a Cottage pie rather than Shepherd's Pie.
But they've been like the description below with beef mince mixed with various veggies (peas, carrots, celery, onion etc.) but not corn.
Then they're topped with mashed potatoes. Sometimes ours are mashed sweet potatoes and sometime mashed ordinary potatoes.
And sometimes there's a cheese layer between the meat & veg and potatoes or a little cheese sprinkled on top.

Busy day yesterday. Brunch with M, a little shopping, then rushed home to rake leaves and catch up on things around here in the afternoon. Seems like leaving for anything later in the morning really throws me off. I discovered I forgot to feed Rosie her supper last night. She didn't faint from hunger and probably managed to get enough calories from healthy treats she conned out of me.
Mo - Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day! Sounds like you have a nice one planned.
Rita - hope your knee is doing better and the back brace helps. Anything that impedes my ability to walk really frustrates me.
Allie - bon voyage. Glad you got to catch up with your cousins.
Barbara - wow, great news finding that insurance policy. Sounds like a nice little windfall for hearing aid $$.
Vicki - how are you doing? If I remember right, you were taking this week off. Hope you are able to relax and get your mind off the layoff announced last week, do some planning if you need to. Will you be eligible for unemployment for a while? Not sure how things work in your state.
Lisa - neat purse, love all the compartments. Are the purses you are making destined for a vendor space at the market you mentioned earlier?
Heather - glad to hear your knee is progressing. Happy belated birthday to John, what a nice meal and celebration. Loved the art.
Michele - seems like the summer went by quickly with you guys closing the pool. Does everyone in your neighborhood put up Halloween decorations? I haven't seen any around here yet. Mrs. Roger generally puts out a jack-o-lantern or two for me, lol. I'm the only neighbor who can see the front of their house.
Annie - Great job on the clothing donations.
A couple years ago, I bought some fleecy quarter zip tops on sale from both JC Penney and Land's End. Event though I followed the size charts, the JC Penney ones were just too big so I donated them. The Land's End ones were pretty roomy, but I thought they'd do. I tried one on yesterday in preparation for my lunch with M. Now that I've lost a little weight, I was swimming in it and the neck was too large even when zipped up. I can make it work for wearing here at home, but looks like I'll have to hit the streets and see what I can find in local stores where returns are easy for something a little dressier. Ugh, lol.
Earl and Spam:A couple days ago, I realized my CenturyLink bill hadn't appeared in my CenturyLink email yet. CenturyLink is my high speed internet and landline provider. So I called them, and a guy in customer service came on the line. His accent was so thick, I could barely understand him. And this time, I couldn't place it. Maybe Spanish, maybe eastern European, maybe SE Asia. Russian?
He said his name was (unintelligible) so I called him Earl. I think he tried to protest but since I was the customer, he had to take whatever I dished out. Earl he was.
I told him what the problem was, that I didn't get the bill in my email this time. From what I could make out, he said check the Spam. I did. Well, the Spam empties itself every 10 days or so. If the bill ended up in Spam, it was gone. I said "Earl, why would the bill suddenly end up in Spam after being delivered into the main mailbox for months?" Earl launched into something I couldn't understand so I let him rattle on, told him thanks and I'd have to remember to start checking Spam the first week of every month. Undecipherable comment from Earl.
He ended the conversation with "anything else? Again, my name is ______?? and thanks for calling Centurylink." I said "nothing else. Good-bye Earl and have a nice day."
Get this. I also discovered some of the Gmail emails I get from regular senders like my sis are now ending up in Spam. And I've been unsubbed from several YouTube channels I've been following forever. And to top it off, Facebook has decided that I now follow groups and people I've never heard of. Good gravy.
Maybe this is due to the solar flare/northern lights business we've been having. Maybe I need to call Earl and see if he can shed any light on it.
OK ladies, sun is coming up soon, I need to get going. Rain starting mid-morning. Make it a fabulous day.

It happens.
Many places suggest checking your spam folder regularly because the spam checking algorithms may pick up something in the email they don't like. The spam checking algorithms are updated regularly, so something may have changed in their code as well.
I check my spam folder every few days.SophieRosieMom wrote: »And I've been unsubbed from several YouTube channels I've been following forever.

Is FB just suggesting groups to you? It does that all the time ... starts suggesting groups based, again, on algorithms. It sees you like certain subject matter, so you'll start seeing posts from groups related to that subject matter in your main newsfeed.
It's one of the reasons I use the "Feed" link rather than the main newsfeed. In the "Feed" link, I can set up what I want to see.
I don't follow Youtube, so I can't help you there.

This came up in my memory feed in Facebook. Good reminder to me...
I went to a talk by Frank Abagnale on identity theft this week. This is a reminder to be careful what you share, what you post, and what you like on Facebook. The prime ages thieves look for are children and adults 50-85. He recommended if you share a photo of yourself not to have a full face because thieves can steal that picture.i.e. it makes you more of a target. He recommended group shots. The personal info you share may be used against you in the wrong hands like where you were born, the high school you went to etc. This gives thieves tremendous amount of info about you. Your likes give tremendous info as to what kind of person you are and how to market to you.
I wish before I had signed up I had been given this information before I signed up on how to use Facebook in a way to decrease the chances information would not be used against me.
I am not saying do not use Facebook. It is a wonderful way to stay contacted with others. Just give careful thought to what you share and what you like on the site. Also guard your password just like you do your other accounts. In the wrong hands it makes you and your friends on Facebook vulnerable to the wrong sort.

On my walk with my neighbor. There were even skeletons on the roof!
Found a park to walk DrewB. They called it a lake I call it a pond. It was lovely to walk her here. On one of my walks I met a woman who had just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. We had quite the chat about food choices and it was motivating for both of us. I told her if she continues on her track she could possibly reverse her diagnosis.

Annie – doesn’t it feel good to have the things to donate out of your way?
It was COLD this morning. Wore my coat to BK. But it was gorgeous this afternoon. We got all the lights for the Halloween decorations up and hooked up. Had a dentist appt for a routine cleaning. All’s well
Tracey – great Halloween decoration. You are very talented
Rori – what a full life you are having! I’m so happy for you
pip – Yogi looks so sad with that head gear. How long will he have to wear it?
Jess got her kitten yesterday. He’s a real cutie. Tomorrow they pick up the cat (he’s 5 years old).

The peaceful days are nice to have. Tracey, I love your holiday creation. I am itching to paint. I ordered more brushes and acrylic paints.
Pip, I have written many posts that disappeared, and I was too tired to start again. So, if I am repeating myself, please forgive me. I love reading your story about Lenny and Kirby. To have loved two great men in your life and to be loved back is a gift. I can tell you treasure it. You looked radiant around both guys. You are so beautiful, no matter what size you are. I love the fight in you. You don't stay down for long. I brag about you at work, that you rode your bike 3500 miles to raise money for MS, and your running speed. They were amazed. They are in their 20's and can not even consider conquering your stats.
Machka, do you know anything about hybrid bikes? I am thinking about getting myself one for Christmas. I have a regular bike in my shed, but I am afraid of the wasp to get it. I will have DH pull it out when he comes into town. I will have it tuned up as well. Lisa, I would love to see you paint again.
In 30 minutes, I will turn 59. I can not believe this is my last year in my 50s. I took the day off and plan to put Rose in daycare (I got a free coupon). I will get a mani/pedi, then go swimming. I want a massage, too; we will see. I went through my closet, and my jeans with tags from Old Navy were too big, and the material was hard. I will donate. The smaller-sized jeans fit, but they are made of hard material, too. I didn't think my mom would like those pants. They may soften in the wash. I am working on my pantry, which is shaping up, but more needs to be done. I made a playlist for power walking the trail. I like music from my era and my kids, like Cheetah Girls (Julia and her friend Violet used to sing it non-stop) and High School Musical. I have a playlist for my mom, too. When I take her to her appointments, sometimes she cries when she hears certain songs. Well, I'd better go to bed now. It has been nice talking to you all. Take care.
XO,
Mo
Thanks for your kind words. We walk to the gym and pass by these two maintenance guys that are taking their break and we got to talking every time we pass them. One guy guessed I was 40-45, I told him, I’ll take that, told him I was 65, his mouth dropped. They guessed kirby at 50, he’s 69. Former coworkers say they couldn’t do what I do either, they were in their 20s and 30s. It’s hard at first then gets easier and becomes habit. This Saturday, got to run 11 miles. I must admit, i think I’m falling out of love with running, ughhh.

It's a very good idea to move away from passwords and use long pass phrases instead.
Also never use the same password for 2 different accounts.
Remember too that this site is more open and accessible than FB. Depending upon your FB settings of course.
With FB, we need to go into the settings and check them every few months. Make sure almost nothing is public. Clear up the advertising section in settings.
Here, we can't do much. Our posts go into a database that can be searched by anyone as evidenced by the fact that a Google search will find our posts.
Today, I worked from home and caught up a bit on several online courses for work. One was a cybersecurity course. Quite good.
After work, I also unpacked a few more things.

When I was teach computer science in a technical college in TN, I had gone to many classes on cybersecurity and computer forensics. Very interesting stuff the forensics. The software that came with the class allowed me to take a hard drive/usb drive/ essentially anything that ‘had’ data on it, have someone delete everything then I could use the software to find what was on the drive or data storage device. Very cool! One student brought in an old usb he found in his mom’s junk drawer. I did the magic on that drive and found the whole drive was full of music by people the student never heard of. Unfortunately, I recognized the artists. Can’t remember who they were but I do remember they were from the 1950’s and 60’s. The student had erased it before giving it to me and was stunned I was able to find what was on it. Now it’s been years since I taught or took the classes but still find the topic very interesting. When law enforcement confiscates digital equipment, this is what they are doing. I’m sure the software has improved a lot since I used it. My point here is to remind everyone that your data is never truly ‘gone’ from the hard drive or other data storage device. Using the cloud is the same. The only way to truly erase a data storage device is specialized software (very expensive) or expose the device to a highly magnetic (think MRI) device.
Funny story about an MRI. When I was working in a hospital IT department, one of the MRI techs decided he wanted to erase his hard drive (I wonder why??) and put the drive in the MRI and turned it on. NEVER DO THIS!!! The MRI slammed the hard drive against the side of the machine and broke it! Needless to say, that tech was fired and sued. This cost the hospital hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair. I had the hospital buy a special device that had to be used outside the loading dock to erase data storage devices. It was magnetic, thus why it had to be done outside.
My point…. Remember your data is never truly gone, no matter how many times you delete, erase, or format a device. Be careful what you save…..

Poor Yogi. Glad you got meds to heal him up though. I am PILL queen, so I get it. Every week for 10 years now, filling up husbands 7 day, 4 x a day pill container, counting out when the bottle feels low, calling in the couple of pills we can fill at the base clinic, others are vitamins so its a trip to Rite Aid, or letting him call the others in to our mail order pharmacy. Sometimes when I fill his calcium pills in the container, which are 3 x a day, I just pour them out in my hand, mentally weighing it, and it comes out to 21 pills EXACTLY, so like my is complete then.😂

Good afternoon beautiful ladies!
I stayed up late again reading 'Just For the Summer' by Abby Jimenez. I truly enjoyed it, but now I'm sleepy and running behind.
Pip too bad Yogi has to have all that medicine. Teddy learns to fight it after about three doses and it gets tougher and tougher to dose him. Hope he isn't too itchy!
Mo Happy happy birthday!
Michele I have six bags waiting upstairs. Maybe I can take it tomorrow afternoon. Next I'm looking at the excess bedding. There must be ten extra blankets up there, including a beautiful Hudson Bay wool point blanket. For me, with my allergies, I prefer a machine wash and dry blanket.
Barbara Yay for insurance money!
Lanette my Facebook went wonky too. I had it curated to show lots of paintings and birds, and some comics, and then it got full of celebrity nonsense again. It's a constant struggle.
Well I will be up early walking in the forest, so I better not stay up reading tonight.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Well kind of at the wait and see to hear from sons mode. I send them questions and it takes awhile to get an answer. Haven't heard from eldest heading toward Japan. Middle son should be getting a treat box for the gkids today, told him about that, without any acknowledgment yet about it. Also sent him an invite to my sisters next month, no acknowledgement from that either. Youngest hasn't updated me either on when he heads back to the States. Trying not to mentally go bonkers, but its hard. Today will be a good day, exercising, grocery shopping on this rainy day on the island. Hugs ladies.

Eagles – welcome
Mo – happy birthday. Very congrats on the too big jeans
Barbara – the reason I boil water at home is because the water at the fountain at BK is very cold. The hot water they have comes out SOOOOO slow. I’d be standing there for 3 minutes just to get ¼ of my cup, literally. So just to make it easier on me, I just boil it at home and take a few ounces with me then use their cold water to cool it off.
Vince is finally working on sanding the door. I guess he figures it’s too cold to do any decorating today. I think he’s sort of resigned himself to the fact that we may not have a Christmas tree upstairs this year. This is what the cats did to the Halloween tree. And it doesn’t even have lights and ornaments on it yet! Like I said, pouring that Nature’s Miracle stuff worked, but it looks like you need to constantly apply it so that it continues to work. I just poured it on the tree since I couldn’t find a spray bottle of it. We really don’t want to pour it on the tree with the lights and ornaments
Lanette – a few people put out Halloween decorations, but we’re probably the biggest decorator. Yea for too large clothes. I guess the only bad part is the money that was spent. But that’s a small price to pay. I ordered a few pair of shorts from PCPenney. Both the same size, same mfgr. Yet one is too big. The only difference between that pair and another is the color. Go figure! That’s one reason I like to try on clothes in the store. Now I’ve learned that if I order something, I need to order in multiple sizes, try them on when they come into the store, and then return the ones that don’t fit. What a pain!
After work went to WalMart then the soup kitchen. A while ago (maybe 5 years) my right hip hurt so much that there was one day when I didn’t exercise. Even Vince said “you must really be in pain not to exercise”. Well, I went to the MD thinking I was looking at hip replacement. Seems it was syatic (?sp) nerve. The MD prescribed prednisone and it went away. Until a few months ago. So I went back knowing that it was syatic and that it was only going to get worse. Had predisone and all is fine. However, about a week ago the other side started to hurt just like the syatic. I really don’t want to go back to the MD and get more prednisone. I’ve been using voltaren and it seems to really help. Did want to get more of the voltaren and also Aleve. Then the soup kitchen.
I was serving in the dining room at the soup kitchen. Haven't done that in a while. It's just so sad that I recognized many of the people. Seriously, some of them have been coming for years. How sad!

I walk on a treadmill in the gym. Sometimes I read books I have checked out, and listen to Pandora at the same time. Walking is just a 30 minute non thinking activity at that point. I get my heart rate up to 120 so I guess that's a good thing.

I havent really watched any t.v. while I have been here which is good..and tomorrow is going to be a busy day.. so Im going to make it an early night3 -
Allie - as has been said by others, Bon Voyage! Hope it's a lovely, wonderful cruise.
Got my laundry all done, sheets and blankets washed, bed remade, the rest of the laundry cleaned and folded or hung up and put away. In and out of that, got one bag made, but I'm not happy with it - the only good thing about it is the cloth I thrifted. It's Australian, oddly enough, the brand is Kas. In the middle of Arkansas. Very odd.
🤷🏻♀️I learn as much from the ones that don't work as the ones that do, if not more.
Homemade pizza for dinner - pizza crusts I made a few weeks back and froze. Which reminds me, I need to get the bacon in the oven and get it done. Corey will be off for four days, so it will give him lunches for a couple of those days.
Later, my dears.

Mo - A VERY Happy Birthday! It's so great to treat yourself.
For my birthday, I chose and booked the restaurant, and planned and booked the family lunch. Neither of my husbands have been proactive in planning. I do all the holiday bookings too. I used to resent my first husband for not ever taking charge, but now I know that I choose men who are happy to let me do my own thing. Woe betide anyone who tries to tell me what to do. However, I sometimes think it would be nice, just once in a while ...........! I also picked my own presents from John. I've come to realise you can't have it both ways.
I wrote 750 words this morning. The next chapter is on the wonder of gametes.
DSIL coming tomorrow. Her suite is ready. Just have to do a quick hoover downstairs in the morning. I've more or less made the roasted tomato and pepper soup for lunch. I decided at the last minute to sieve it. It will be delicious. I'm serving a seafood and bean salad after it. Going out for dinner to the fish restaurant. Sunday light lunch will be smashed avocados on rye toast, with crispy bacon and a fried egg. Yummo! Unfortunately, rain is predicted. She loves a walk.
She is an easy and welcome guest, so I'm looking forward to it.

Skim watched it just now.
When we lived in our rental (for the past 10 years), we had to do most of those things between 2 and 4 times a year for the inspections. Those inspections always came at the worst possible times too. They'd send us a notice about 10 days in advance, and some of those days were almost always days when we were busy organising a cycling event or away for the weekend or I would have a big deadline at work or in uni or something. So the 2 of us would spend hours one evening cleaning everything until quite late at night.
That's one thing I won't miss in our new place ... no inspections here!
But we will keep up the cleaning. For example, fortunately our upper cupboards here are all the way to the ceiling so I don't have to clean the tops of them, but we have two display cabinets. I've cleaned the tops of them periodically, but noticed that they needed it again when we moved them in. So I used our hand-held vacuum to do the top of one of them, and I'll do the other one later this weekend.
I've made the mistake of washing first like she did ... when I saw what she was doing, I was thinking ... "Oh no! That's not the way to do it!" To fix it, she'll have to wait till it dries, then vacuum it off using a bristle brush attachment, then wash again.
Incidentally, we got the hand-held vacuum just before we came to Canada and it's a great purchase! Especially with these hardwood floors. When I see that some cat hair fluffs have collected in a corner (Rhody is shedding just now), I suck them up quick and easy without having to get out the real vacuum cleaner. And it made doing the tops of the display cabinet so easy. In the past, I've had to put the real vacuum onto a table to made the hose reach. Very awkward.
Our current stove/oven is built in which suits me just fine.
