WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2025

Barbie, hope this morning’s quake on the Olympia Peninsula didn’t disturb or damage you and yours.
Rosemarie you and your son were on my heart this morning. Could he be reading your texts as “please fix this” while you are sending “please listen to help me process this”?
When Joe and I first got together, he’d frequently put his hands over his ears and say “That’s enough, my ears hurt.” One of the things I learned from “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” and from counseling, was to distill or limit communication to 3 bullet points, then stop and wait, for however long it takes. They just don’t process incoming communication as quickly as we do. What Lanette said about finding a trusted friend to run decisions past and what Barbie said about this thread as a sounding board. Hard as it might be, best to wait a year before any major changes. ((hugs))
Lanette and Barbie the fear of disruption trumps even the co$t as reasons for not remodeling our little blue doublewide in the woods above the sea.
Betsy thanks for sharing your sister’s wonderful news. Thanks be!
Heather had to google “incel type.” Scary for his daughter and worrisome for Johnny.
Machka yah thanks for confirming that what I see on my Windows laptop is not what y’all see on your smart phones. Wonder if iPhones present different from Galaxies?
Margaret and Beth s s s snowww? Nooooo!
Carol, well done on the house walking with weights. Might not help trim your angel wings but will trim your waist ;)
Rita so sorry for all you’re going through. Thank you for continuing the thoughts for the day. You don’t know how many people’s day you brighten up. ((hugs))
My blood pressure has been up every day this month. Gotta figure out the trigger and eliminate it… could it be the evening news?
Later, lighter, lovelies!

March focus: OMG room
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday (drop everything and dance!), fuel better than yesterday (maintain better than 50% AF days/month, reduce after dinner sweets to one piece of dark chocolate), open heart and mind before mouth. Does anyone know how to add color to text from windows laptop?

Kim - I like that way of thinking about it. But then, I liked the change, as I'm a fan of WYSIWYG UIs (What You See Is What You Get User Interfaces like RTF.) I built my first bulletin board, basically this kind of forum, but stand alone, for me and my high school best friends, back in 1999 - and I was using the same kind of coding that we were using to make posts last week. RTF came around not much later, so it's actually been around for 25 years. Using the old formats was just lazy on the part of MFP before Google took it over. One of those "that's the way we've always done it!" things that just kept hanging on, because it might cause a bit of work to change it.
Carol - Barbie beat me to the punch. Comparisons with other people just aren't useful, just comparing yourself to what you did the day before, and what you can do. Proud of you for using the hand weights while you're walking!
Rebecca - I need those plant tags… 😂 I don't have the issue with the double-letter typing after a return key, might just be how your tablet virtual keyboard is working with the new coding. Don't have a fix, though, sorry. Machka might.
Today's my daughter's 34th birthday - she's still in Denver at her grandmother's bedside (her birth mom's mother). Been pretty touch and go after a heart bypass on an 80+ year-old, very unhealthy woman, I guess. I need to call her. My granddaughter will be 10 in just a couple weeks, which doesn't even seem possible. Sure miss 'em.
A week from tomorrow we will leave for the Fiber Arts Festival (which reminds me, Lanette - this is the only one. I mentioned this one quite far ahead of time, but haven't been to it yet.) Corey's taking that day off, and I've convinced him to go ahead and take the Monday off as well, to get a couple things done we need to do together. and have a nice long weekend. Shouldn't be a problem, but he'll let me know at lunch.
Barbara AHMOD - most Windows programs allow you to change the color of fonts in their home ribbons, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to transfer over here. I tried every way I could think of.
And… back to my doin's, my chickens. Stuff to write, sew, build, do! Woot!
Hint for today: In order to make only a single space after you press the enter key, on any computer keyboard, hold down the ctrl key when you press enter.
Love y'all,

Today's outting for grocery shopping went well. Bought too much but whatever.🙃. Some treats like brie cheese, my turkey and pepper jack cheese from the deli. Husband wanted a single slice of ham, and the lady cut one and marked it free. Strange but ok! Dinner is sushi from the sushi guy at the deli.
My sweet thing is some caramel corn. I will space that out! My salty thing is Freetos to go with some chili later next week. I bought some good salami to put on a Boboli pizza crust with Rao sauce, and brie blobs.
I did buy my clover sprouts, love those things. Plus fresh spinach so I can have my power plates. What are those? Just a hefty handful of fresh spinach, splattered with water flicked from my hand, s and p, maybe some "everything" seasoning, then nuked for maybe 10 sec. Blobs of cottage cheese, cut up pickled asparagus, diced tomatoes, black olives, and parmesan cheese. Its a "pick me up"!

Happy Thursday, everyone! We had a very pretty sunrise over work this morning. So happy for the longer days. Since we come in at 6am, I have been tired of arriving and leaving in the dark!
Day 4 of staying on track. Day 3 of being back to doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts. I bit the bullet and joined his paid membership yesterday, and am very happy so far that I did.
Hope everyone has had a wonderful week :)

Today I wore some dabs of makeup, put a dab of lipstick on each check, and put on my lips. I was satisfied! I didn't wear any earrings because I am just liking the feel of nothing in my earlobes.😂🙃
Hugs ladies!

Barbie, belated thank you for the March thread! I think you are being very wise in how you are adjusting/coping with Jake’s passing. I’ve read, several times, that a person shouldn’t make huge changes after a life altering event and it sounds to me like you are doing things gently but with purpose. My hope is to emulate you, should I find myself in that situation. I should add that hubby does keep threatening to go before me……
Rosemarie, I’m in Canada so don’t have all the extra medical plans that are necessary in the US. Don’t have all the expense either. When I was still working I did have a benefits package that helped sometimes. Part of the cost of the actual eye exam was covered by our (free) provincial plan, but the cost of the actual glasses was all on us. There are places where we could have gotten cheaper glasses, but when I tried that several years ago I was unhappy with both the selection of frames and the lack of customer service so I’ve decided to just stick with the optometrist. I’m helping to support a small, local business too, although I have no idea where the glasses are actually made. Hmmmm, should look into that.
This is my first time with the new format also. I had intended reading the blurb in the link but my brain thought it was still a long way away, but Surprise!! not so far away after all, lol. Oh well, so far, so good.
Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those needing or just wanting them and welcome to the new gals!

Rebecca - OK, we're channeling each other again… I started wearing makeup again this week, for a number of reasons. I do wear earrings, for the same reason you don't, because I like feeling the hoops there.
Just eye shadow, mascara and lipstick, but I'm wearing it for me now, not for anyone else.
Good feeling.
Egg is lying beside my teacup because she knows I only drink tea in the afternoons when I don't feel well. Lunch got stuck. She always sticks like a cockleburr when I'm not feeling good. This will pass, it always does.
Later, y'all,
Love from Arkansas,

Carol - great job with the house walking. 😉I've been at it since October 2023, and was carrying up to 5# weights after each meal, was doing 5 minutes at a time, and "pavement walking" as well. Last spring it became clear that I was overdoing it when my foot flared up and the doctor put me on restriction steps (under 8000) due to possible stress fracture. So now, I walk only in the house 10 to 15 minutes after most meals (sometimes skip), carrying 2# weights or if my tennis elbow is kicking up, none. It's the only exercise I've made into a habit and is sustainable for me.
Betsy - wonderful news about your sister. Is she heading back to Alaska now?
Barbara - how are your little plant babies? Are you getting them potted up?
Questionable Salad: It's been a crazy couple days. Had lunch with my friend yesterday and had a tummy ache the rest of the day. Ordered a chicken Caesar salad. It ended up no romaine, just wilted lettuce and the chicken was little left over chicken thigh pieces from the day before, I'm sure. 😣 I'm used to sliced chicken breast. Pepto Bismol and a can of ginger ale to the rescue. Feeling fine today!
Bank concern: Then this morning, I stopped in at the bank. The manager was off and they had a gal from another branch fill in. I needed some things done with my little retirement account there and she'd never handled a transaction like this before. So she was on the phone quite a while, then when she went to print documents the printer didn't work and the back-up printer was also stubborn. 45 minutes later, I finally left and she said to check online for the transaction if I didn't want to stick around for the receipt (which might not print.) I just checked online - things aren't adding up, though perhaps there's a delay in posting the transactions. I'll be in town on Monday and go over it if it's not fixed. Thankfully it's a small amount.
Predictive Text: for about the past 6 months, when I go to type text, the laptop wanted to finish the sentence for me. So I was constantly hitting the back space key. What a nuisance. For the past few months, I've looked all over on how to get rid of it and could never find out how. The problem was I didn't know what it was called! Yesterday I dinked around and finally ran across what it was - "Predictive text". It was easy to fix, YouTube had the answer.
That's one of the problems I run into with these upgrades - if a person doesn't know what they are called, how can we be expected to find the fix? I really wish Microsoft or whoever invents this stuff would run their updates by me for beta testing, I could easily point out the flaws that could aggravate the consumers.
Enough griping. 😁It's a beautiful sunny but chilly afternoon.
Lanette 😎

Did a Tracy Long DVD today. Took a walk and so far I have over 12,000 steps. Just got back from playing cards. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 20/40/60 workout on the treadmill. Want to take a walk then in the afternoon we pick Jess up at the airport. She flew into Miami Wed, saw a friend of hers in the Keys, then she’staking the Brightline from Miami to Orlando. We’ll take her backto the airport on Sunday.
Betsy – so happy for you and your sister
Had a cyst under my arm and it was starting to really bother me. I didn’t think I can wait 2 weeks to get home so I went to Urgent Care here. The guy lanced it and gave me some antibiotics. My dermatologist REALLY squeezed, he didn’t do it as much. But he’s giving me antibiotics which my MD didn’t. Well, I go to see my derm. On the27th and if he needs to express it more, he can do it then. At least it’s somewhat down. But for today it’s a little uncomfortable to move my left arm since he put the bandage on it. I’ll probably take the bandage off tomorrow. So I apologize if I don’t acknowledge someone, I’m thinking of you it’s just uncomfortable to move my arm.
Remember the friend of mine who I told you had esophageal cancer and they were going toput a stent in? Well, his wife texted me. He’s in the hospital in liver failure. I can tell she’s quite worried
After walking went into the clubhouse to do some crafts. It would be hard to do it with kitty help. I couldn’t leave the yarn, needle, etc. out
Allie – agree with Okie, Kyle should be watching Delia. He’s the father
Michele
not sure why, but feeling very tired right now

Hey, Michele. Did you see the starship explode today or any of the debris? I've seen some pictures, and it look amazing, not in a great way, but still spectacular.
Allie. Sorry you are getting so tired. Emotional exhaustion is a real thing, and it sounds like watching the baby in that context is very exhausting.
Rita. Thinking of you. I'm sorry for all you are going through.
Rebecca. Cute hair.
There's more I wanted to comment on, but my brain is fried. I'm very tired tonight. So thankful for the weekend coming up.
Much love to all

Well it has been an interesting couple days weatherwise. We were lucky and the wind did not do any damage to our house. We got snow and ice and most the roads in the whole state were closed due to trucks and cars sliding all over. Today was 40 and most of it melted. They are calling for snow tomorrow and then in the 60-70 Sunday and first next week. I am so looking forward to Spring.
Rita—I am sending hugs and prayers. Our kids call cause us so much worry and we can not do anything to help.
Betsy—Great news for you sister.
Machka—I am resigtered with one employee office and I have an interview tomorrow at the other one in town, I do think a lot of it is when they interview and find out my age.
Tracey—I have been ready again and enjoy the Amish books.
Rosemarie—Sending hugs and know we are hear to listen.
Mo—I admire the job you do and believe you are a Blessings to your patients.
Well going to call it a day and get to bed.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE💗

Hehee, yep, we are! You have flawless skin by the way. Mine still gets bumps now and then, plus I feel claustrophobic with a full face of makeup. A dot here and there is fine. I am literally a train wreck when it cones to putting on any eye makeup, or mascara. I figured if I haven't mastered it at 62, I am just not meant to wear the stuff!

Heather - it was a short lived break. The residents tv is what is across from my office and really we work in their home, I sure wish they could hear a little better and turn the volume down though. 😂
I hope John’s daughter stays safe.Machka - I like listening to music at work, I don’t get to because it would just be another noise, but I miss it. I think it is the volume of things and right now, the topics, that get to me at work.
Beth - I agree about the cement floors, I have to prepare for pain if I’ve done a lot of walking on them.I have been wearing my recovery sandals when I go to the stores and they do make a difference. Not much but some.
Lisa - I have to write things down too, it helps keep it all straight.
Rita - Hugs to you, that’s a lot of worries.
Allie - my heart hurts that those children have to have that environment to grow up in. I don’t know how you manage to keep quiet, I would probably make matters worse.
Carol - my arms are flappy too lately.
Rebecca - those are the tags I need.
Evie - I’m with you about cheaper glasses places, although I have to say that I have never had an issue with Walmart before. The last three pairs though I got from the optometrist’s office.
I need new ones again and I just don’t have the money to pay for them even with my benefits.Lanette - I hope the bank issue is resolved.
Barbara - this is what it looks like on my iPhone.
Had ceramics tonight, I painted two piggy banks for the twins that were born the end of January. Now to find a time to take them to them, I also have to clearcoat them yet.
Glad tomorrow is Friday!Tracey in Edmonton

Hello my friends;
I made a post, which disappeared despite pushing the save draft. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. It is time to go back to work😥. Retirement sounds great. I have a while before that happens. I hope social security remains intact. My mom needs it and so will I. I am trying to avoid politics in my life for my mental health. I don't discuss it at work or here. It creeps in on social media like IG, and I did read the Washington Post(One Article), and I was depressed. Rose was able to cheer me up. When I looked in the backyard, she was on her back, sunning. I took it easy this week again, for my hip. I had Salonpas on, Biofreeze, did some abductor and adductor exercises, and used a heating pad. My gait is a little bit steadier. I can't sit too long. Walking is fine, but step aerobics is out this week. I hope it is better next week. Sitting is my enemy. It takes me a bit to walk after sitting. Laying down is fine. I did fall once, and Rose ran to me to see if I was okay. Thanks to strength training, I got back up and laughed at myself.
Machka, I hope you have a wonderful birthday this weekend. I love the dress your dad got you. I know you will look stunning in it.
Rebecca, safe travels, and enjoy your reunion with your family.
Allie, Alfie is so cute; I would spoil him too. I know you miss that face, and maybe you can spend time with him when your time isn't so divided.
Pip, I know you will not have any trouble getting back in first place.
Michelle, are you having fun in Florida, and how long will you be there?
Kylia, it is time to do something that makes you smile again. You work so hard on the family business.
Lisa, you look good with or without makeup. Sometimes, I do it for myself, but I don't like a lot of makeup.
Carol and Lanette, how are you doing?
Lynn, I hope you and DH are keeping your spirits up. Rose is approaching 10, and it would be devastating to lose her. I always thought that if I lost her, I would get another dog right away. I don't know anymore. I may wait a little bit and then get one.
Heather, you had me laughing at how much you detest the guy who invited himself to Madeira.
Annie, I hope all is well with you.
Rita, I continue to share your jokes with DS, who is a fan. I am wondering what you decided to do with living arrangements. Have you started looking?
Barbara, how is the weather in the PNW? I hope all is well with you.
Barbie, you and Annie are navigating well together. I bet she is excellent at keeping you company. Rose is my company keeper, but she is bossy at times.
I wish you all a sunny and warm weekend. Take care of yourselves. Chow for now.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

From my experience, men don't listen to listen, they listen to solve. So if you're talking about day-to-day life, there's nothing to solve so there's no need to respond. As others have mentioned, you can chat here or if you're able to find a female friend where you are …
Most lawns in Australia go brown. It's a relief when they do because there's no more mowing for a while. :)
My long To-Do list is organised by "rooms" - lounge room, kitchen, bedroom, front garden, back garden, etc. I tend to focus on one room at a time - organise it, toss a lot of things, purchase a few things, etc. Then I move on to the next room.

Done my formatting session. I'm taking it slowly as I'm doing a second close edit at the same time.
After that I replied to G, confirming a lunch date for later this month. I thought she had been so patient with my long recovery from my hip replacements, coming every time to Brighton, that I ought to return the favour. I have discovered that the direct trains have been cancelled, so it will take longer than before. Anyway, I've suggested that I travel to her, and so I went online to renew my Senior Railcard for the year.
Yes, she's happy for me to go there.😎 A restaurant we like has a free prosecco for her birthday month and a free g&t for me, just because it's March.
The railcard gives me a third off fares. It costs £35, but you soon recoup the outlay. I will save £7 on that trip, and I am planning to visit my brother and my son this spring.

Rita …
Happy Birthday to all the other early birthday ladies here! Isn’t March a great month to be born in?
Yes! Absolutely!! In this part of Australia, Labour Day is this coming weekend, so I get a long weekend on or near my birthday. 😃
But I think Debbie's birthday is just before mine. Are there any others coming up?
He is NOT a patient person, so it's going to be a long road to recovery
Yep. I hear you!
My husband had his next physio appointment and he's up to 50% weight on his bad leg (Achilles tendon rupture and surgery). It's better, but still a long way to go. He does need to get up and move periodically to reduce the possibility of DVT. Tracey …Machka - when I was growing up my grandmother washed all of her towels, sheets, pillowcases, dish towels, etc in boiling water on the wood stove. She had a shortened broom handle to pull the clothes out of the water to put into the rinse tub afterwards. Then of course it would go on the line.
I know there are all sorts of cold laundry products, but sometimes I think that boiling some laundry is the better way. BTW - cotton smells really nice when boiling water is poured on it!

Regarding the new format … here's what it's all about:
I work with computers and stuff changes all the time. You just roll with it. As they mention in the post I quote above, they brought in Rich Text to replace the old, old format, but something happened and they returned to the old, old format.
I'm with you, Lisa … I could use an Undo as well.
Lanette, I think you can still shorten a quote.
I was going to post a reply and "quote" your post above, but looks like the ability to cut & paste & shorten it up is gone.
I'm trying the quote rather than the code block.

Machka, I hope you have a wonderful birthday this weekend. I love the dress your dad got you. I know you will look stunning in it.
Mo, my husband got me the dress. 😊
Kylia, I wore the dress to work yesterday and got a big complement. 😊 I love it!
It's a Jacqui E dress.
I've got 12 or 13 Jacqui E dresses and a couple tops. Their stuff just fits.
