Food Diary

6/25/2025 3:03 PST Mine just went back to the old (better) version. But, Betty (staff) said "So our web team will temporarily roll back the diary to the previous version you’re more familiar with sometime later today. While we fully understand that the back and forth is not a great experience by any means, once the bug has been fixed, we expect that the new diary layout will return".
Well, we'll see what happens. But, I don't like using mobile apps. I checked another pretty popular tracking website a while back and it said that they are no longer supporting their website version. So, if MFP is heading that way, I'll be gone. I'm 68 years old with vision problems. And, I have a very nice, fairly new desktop with Bluetooth, touch-screen monitor, regular keyboard. I have my phone linked to it. So I can send texts messages using a regular keyboard. Why would I want to use my phone? Mobile apps are not for me!

@epresco2 You posted while I was typing. But that is what she's saying…that there going to bring back the new version eventually. Everyone is upset about the new diary layout. Why can't they leave things alone at least for the web users?

My UI just reverted to the previous one. However, based on another post, I believe this may be short lived. I already canceled my MFP annual renewal for premium (end of July). I've been checking out alternatives today. I migrated to MFP from Sparkpeople when they shut down. It takes years to build the meals, recipes, food tracking preferences, etc. But I will move to another app that is good on desktop/laptop if the new MFP UI returns. My phone is not my preferred device for this type of application, unless I'm not at home and can't access my computer. Oh well, all good things often come to an end.

Then LISTEN to the people using this food diary- and have made it clear that it's not a good change. Leave well enough alone with the old format. For diabetics, the new format is dangerous. Who adds stuff and puts the total at the top?

Please leave it as is. The new experience itself was a bug better left dead.

MFP has just rolled the Food Diary back to its previous version. However, according to @Hudson this is a temporary change until they get some bugs corrected (am I stating this correctly, @Hudson?), then they will roll out this new template. Hope it is as ergonomic and efficient as the one that has worked well for years.
According to @Conor, this will bring the website more inline with iOS and Android apps (am I stating this correctly, @Conor?). I'm not familiar with the iOS app, but the Android app is not appealing at all. I usually wait and update everything on the website.
However, the updates from both these staff members (which I appreciate, thank you), indicates this new template will become the permanent new version. That is sad. What has made MFP great is the ease of its Food Diary, its simplicity and easily workable it is.
Here is some more ChatGPT input on this, which gives everyone an idea of the issues we're all having with this new rollout.
Thanks, David

If I wanted it to look like the app, I'd be using the *kitten* app.

Is the bug related to any of the feedback/issues reported here? Also, please pass along all the feedback from the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Myfitnesspal/comments/1ljmrgf/why_is_the_new_ui_so_bad/

The ChatGPT stuff that @TulsaDavid posted (not that I know much about that) does say, "What This Means For You: If you prefer the legacy web layout, enjoy it while it's back — but beware it's likely temporary unless enough users push back hard".
So, maybe, we have to push back hard! When they bring the new version back, if I still don't like it, I will cancel my premium membership. MFP is selling a service and if the service isn't up to my satisfaction…then I will go elsewhere. Or, go back to logging in a tablet with a pencil!

I was really happy to see the old version back this morning, then disappointed to learn it's only temporary. Please listen to your users and leave it up permanently.

I'm in a wait & see mode. I will not use MFP for the time being. If the previous (good) version is staying permanently, I may reconsider my decision. But if they are willing to roll this out so poorly now, how can I trust that it won't happen again. I'm incredibly disappointed. I have fine tuned my notes for both my exercise diary & food diary, but there is no point if it can all disappear. My two cents.

@HealthyDebDeb I feel the same way. That new version is absolutely no good. I'm waiting to see if they improve it at all.

Just give people the option to pick, legacy version that won’t receive further updates or this new one. It would cost so little to give us a single check box.
I made an account here 6 years ago (!) because I got fed up with FitBit’s user hostile updates. That’s literally what my username is lol.
They ALSO merged their web UI with the app’s version, then got rid of features, then got rid of the whole web portal entirely. This is a sinking ship and I’m ready to make a new, similar username somewhere else if it isn’t restored. Please wake up.

Thank you for changing me back.

Your entire business model is getting people to form the habit of coming to your website every day. Making big changes to the interface goes completely against that goal.

I came here to thank them for reverting it back to the original, but I see I was being too optimistic. Please reconsider. Also, maybe think about adding a beta program that users can opt into when you want to roll out new ideas or changes. This way, you can get the best possible feedback from people who actually use your platform.

Do excuse my bluntness but… are your team literate? Because if you actually cared about the feedback, it would be abundantly clear that users don't want the new version to return at all. There's no amount of "bugfixing" that solves the inherent issues with the design making it worse than what we currently have - there's no reason to even change it to begin with

Thanks for listening & returning the webpage back to the previous format.
A BIG relief & one that stops me having to look for a new provider, especially when the current one already did everything we needed, with ease.
Thank you.2 -
Same!

It was a relief to see the familiar diary back and so disappointing to learn that MFP is going to force a new one on us whether we like it or not. You'd think, with so many negative comments, that they'd listen but nooooo…..apparently they just don't give a hoot. I'm searching the internet for a new food tracker. I've used MFP for so many years but I'm not going to continue with something I totally hate and, trust me, I hate that new diary!!

cool, so i leave when the change becomes permanent, and it looks like i'm not alone. do you really want to alienate all your website users?

as we learned with the newsfeed changes MFP is not controlled nor will it ever be influenced by our requests. Threatening to find a new AP or cancel premium type posts are honestly just spittin' in the wind. When "the board" decides something it is not based on user input here but usually the $$ or what someone who does not use the AP thinks would be a great new feature (that none of us really want if they bothered to ask). Probably at some point the whole interface except community will be AP only versus PC friendly. Thats what google did to Fitbit and I think someone mentioned Loseit also did. Perhaps desktop APs are going the way of the dinosaur or something.

I've already turned off the auto-renewal for Premium. Money talks, folks. You can always put it back on… but maybe MFP needs to see a mutiny to 'hear' us…
3 -
Weight Watchers also did this - they did away with their desktop functionality earlier this year. Really upset a lot of their users.

I've already moved to Cronometer. Its UI still isn't as good as the old MFP, but it's still better than the new one.
1 -
@Chirthorpe I have a feeling that MFP will keep the old version for website user's. Maybe just wishful thinking. But I'm waiting to see.
I just checked on Cronometer. I looks like it's just another app for phones. I'm only interested in apps that can be used with a desktop computer. All the apps seem to be moving away from the desktop versions. But, when all the 20-somethings become 40-somethings, I believe phone apps will lose their appeal 🙂

MFP staff, thank you for returning to the older version. It is so appealing, easy to work. Some of us have more difficulty than others learning to go with the flow of the changes we saw.
