@kgirlhart very sorry to hear about your son's dog. That is gut-wrenching. I've had to do that to my last 2 labs (14 years apart) and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.😥
I woke up at 3:30am today, so decided I should try a run outside. It was 83F and stifling humid, but I only went 3.4 miles at 9'59, so it was bearable. Felt good to run outside again tho!
6 -
Stifling humidity and 83F at 4:00 a.m.?
The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration gave San Diego some love this week. Claiming it's the best weather in the country. For those who enjoy the unrelenting heat of summer it's not so good, perhaps a few days a year, bring a sweater for the evenings.….thus ends my weather gloating for the season…onto winter!

Glad you had a nice trip @quilteryoyo, I'm guessing Tippy slept a good part of the way home?
Nice runs @chris_in_cal, @kgirlhart (my condolences), @ContraryMaryMary, @tarun_yadavA, & @SummerSkier!

We are still going! Almost to my monthly goal. Still waiting on my letter to let me wear my Oura ring at work and then it will be really interesting. I think I walk a lot…it is 300 steps from the car to the front door of the building alone.
Finally got some good sleep last night after some insomnia and restless kitties and feel so much better today. If yesterday had been a gym day, it would not have happened. Still settling into my new job, has been a bit frustrating with lack of guidance..but that means I just take a lot of "rage walks" LOL.

Tried a threshold run yesterday. Nope. Couldn't breathe at one point. I'm trying to switch from chest breathing to diaphragmatic but somehow belly breathing during thresholds doesn't work for me as I'm huffing too fast and hard. Oh well, have to continue practicing for this. Need to fix the hyperinflated lungs and atelectasis.

Hi everyone,
Haven’t had a lot of time to post, but just caught up reading everyone’s posts!
I’ve been on Long Island, NY for about a week now. I used to come here every year as a kid but haven’t been since before I had kids. My brother lives here now, and my parents are here so lots of family time :). I have never run here though, so it’s fun getting to know the area which is amazingly beautiful (lots of water, trees, wineries, etc).
This morning I left a bit late, so it was a bit hot, but I still ran 10.1km. I’ll be here until the beginning of August, but this weekend we will be in NYC, so I’m not sure I’ll get much running in.
177.8/270km for July.
6 -
That sounds like fun…for us living vicariously consider doing a Central Park run, those are epic.

I got out the door! I went on my lunch break for a runch. I could tell it's been 1 1/2 weeks since I last went for a run. First the things felt tight, then the ankles then the shins. I do have some great views when I go out at lunch

Nice runs @ContraryMaryMary, @chris_in_cal, @tarun_yadavA, @CMorning99, @Laurz9191 (enjoy NY!), @yirara & @angf0679! (great pics too!)
Sorry to hear about the breathing issues on the run @WarmJellyfish.

22/07 - 5.78km / 3.59 miles
23/07 - 11.75km / 7.30 miles
Total = 94.26km / 58.57 miles (Goal - 161Km / 100 miles)Garmin told me today was a rest day (due to crappy sleep last two nights) but our temps are supposed to spike tomorrow (~40⁰+C) so seems to me Thursday would be a better rest day choice🤷♂️…..I'm sure my Garmin coach would have colourful language for me (if it had that ability) given how often I completely ignore it's recommendations.
Tried to slow my pace down today for a slower, easy run, with mixed results; started well but kept speeding up - tried walking a bit more after the first 5K (to split laps up in my head, didn't work) and even sat down around 8K to get my heart rate back down.
My pace was all over the place.
I blame my flaming orange shorts (I often wear really bright colours so cars see me).
Apparently flaming orange shorts want to move faster…🤷♂️4 -
@John772016 It's a well known fact that orange is the fastest color.
4 -
11km for me this morning. The first 10 were great and then my breakfast wore off.
6 -
I ran 4.04M at 12'29 out by the lake after work this evening.
6 -
Morning all
3.39M at 09'44

not much to report. Continuing on my streak but after upping my mileage a few days my foot has been sore so easing up a few days … seems like the right thing to do. LO 🤷♀️ ANyway still here and still kicking.
6 -
Yesterday was nice sunny pretty. Supposed to be an easy run per Garmin. Got to 0.7km, said nah and turned around, no mojo. I think I need a bit of rest…🙄
@John772016 hmmm I must get a pair of flaming orange shorts….😜
@CMorning99 have the neon yellow shoes, need flaming orange shorts 😏
5 -
Good morning!
@angf0679 Great run and the view is good motivation! I am not sure I would be happy to do a runch, once I am outside, it would take a wench to pull back into the office LOL.
@John772016 I agree, also as an owner of flaming orange shorts, you are hella fast :) Pair with neon yellow shoes…and you are unstoppable.
Had a good workout yesterday. First time doing the new machine leg day from coach. Only got confused on the hamstring extention…there seemed to be 3 machines that had that title. Had to adapt a bit too since leg day seems to be a popular body part. I also had a good walk, although I am going to need to dig out my injini toe socks since I have some toe blisters poppping up due to my franken'toes.
Slept well with some melatonin again and ready for the shinanigans of the day.
7 -
@CMorning99 Trust me there are days I want to keep going and not come back in! 😂😂

Today was better then yesterday. There was a little less walking. It was windy today. The wind tunnel that I go through blew my hat right of my head as I was crossing the street!

Nice runs @ContraryMaryMary, @chris_in_cal, @tarun_yadavA, @WarmJellyfish (sometimes it just isn't feeling right but flaming orange shorts would've got you to 0.7km a wee bit quicker🤪), @angf0679(glad today was a better day)!
Neon yellow shoes added to list @CMorning99!

Total = 100.52km / 62.46 miles (Goal - 161Km / 100 miles)Garmin suggested a rest day (once again, due to poor sleep) but after some coffee while enjoying a beauty sunrise, I noticed that the sweltering heat hadn't quite shown up yet, so I headed out the door for a short one.
Near the end of my run, it kinda felt like I was running in an oven with an occasional warm breeze (a convection oven maybe?) but it was a short run & most of it was pretty comfortable.
Pace was more controlled today, but I was wearing a green tank & grey shorts, so that must explain it…..Later, after cleaning up from my run, I went out for a grocery trip, the heat was killer.
Weather app saying feels like 43⁰C (109.4⁰F).3 -
Pilates short run duo again today. Pilates was brutal, targeting all the runner muscles (well, lots of glutes and hammies).
In contrast to your brutal heat, our winter wonderland continues with a week of lovely still sunshiny weather, and a crisp frost each morning with temperatures around 2°C when I head out (this is about as cold as it gets here but it’s plenty chilly enough for me 🤪). Photo taken around 7:30am as the sun just about rises above the hill beside us
6 -
@ContraryMaryMary I like winter wonderland!
@John772016 I think I need to keep my eye out for nein orange shorts! With all these black shorts I just can’t seem to get my speed up ;).
Today I did 2 runs. The first 2.5km was with my 10 year old, who is still working like crazy on his 6 pack…. It was nice and he could out sprint/out run me now on every occasion if he wanted to. But thankfully we usually just chat ;).
Then I went on an 8.6km run, this time by the local golf course. It was a nice route, as only a small bit was along the main highway, which is very loud and has no sidewalk, just a shoulder. My routes in Germany almost always have NO cars and only occasional bike traffic, so running on roads shared by cars is new to me. I am not complaining though. It’s beautiful here and there is a ton to look at in terms of plants, animals, water, and some insanely expensive looking houses.
@chris_in_cal My mom seems to think Central Park is the most dangerous place in the world, so I don’t know about running there when I am in NYC as we are all going there together. The hotel gym might be the “safer” place.
189/270km for July.
4 -
Here it all cars all the time. Bicyclist, pedestrians, and runners are far down the priority list.
All nice runs I take come from joining everyone else by getting into my car and driving some place for a peaceful run.
Best to keep mom happy...(maybe sneak out for a short loop) 😁
3 -
I ran 2.09M at 14'31 an easy loop around the neighborhood.

I haven't posted my last three runs. Tuesday I ran a 6.25 mile easy run. It was really pretty out. The moon was a small crescent, but very bright.
Wednesday I ran 6.5 miles. I did a 50 minute tempo run. (It was supposed to be 45 minutes, but I accidentally entered the cool down as 1 mile instead of half a mile.) That got me 4.5 miles and then I ran 2 more to get me to 6.5. It was a little cloudy, so the moon wasn't very bright, but I did see a partial rainbow.
Today I ran 6.55 miles with intervals. I felt really good about hitting the paces. I also saw a skunk.
I started a Hal Higdon training plan for my Half Marathon in November. I like the speedwork, but the mileage is low. I usually run about 40 miles per week and this plan just has me running about 24 miles per week. I'm still running my normal distance, but Hal keeps saying that I am overdoing it. I may have to find a different plan. Garmin has me at "maintaining" I think it gave me "productive" one day, but it did raise my VO2 max to 47.
