Good day yesterday. Still took it a little easy because of my ankle, but it is feeling a lot better. Exercised (FitOn - Debbie Bone Health Strong), walked the dog, lots of in and out with the puppy, stayed within my IN target and met my protein goal.

@deepwoodslady I was looking at my data related to the question "does it take longer to break into a new 10 versus any other say 3lb change?". I only have 10 months of data across 15lbs, so it is a very small data set. My assessment is No, it does not take any longer. It is the same regardless of where we are; which does make sense.

    image.png

I wasn't sure how to approach this analysis. I decided to just count the number of days at the rounded weight fell into each pound. Given fluctuations, it is not the best approach, but it is what I came up with. Any other ideas on how to assess this?

@bteri107 This is the exercise bench (they call it a deck) that I have. Reebok Deck | Reebok Fitness

Watching the video really makes me think that I'm not getting full use out of it.

    ***

I just realized that the link I provided is to a UK site.

This is the US site Reebok Deck – Reebok US

    ***

The only noticeable difference I can see between mine (which is at least 5 years old) and the latest model, is that mine does not have the visual target zones.

I can't remember exactly, but I think I paid around CAD100. Again, 5 years ago. I do find it pretty versatile. I have used it for rows and rabbit hops (both shown in the video). I generally only use it when the workout video I'm doing uses a bench. I do like the multi-tool aspect of it, but with many multi-tools, it doesn't do any of the functions perfectly well.

    ***

One last link for the other Canadians in this group. Yes4All Multifunctional Fitness Aerobic Step Platform/Aerobic Deck, Household Step Workout Bench for Home Gym (Blue/Grey), Step Platforms - Amazon Canada

I found a similar product on Amazon for CAD160. The Reebok branded one on Amazon & at Best Buy is CAD350!

And why not throw in a review Reebok Deck Review: A Step and Weight Bench in One - Fitness Review

@frankwbrown That's an interesting arrangement, and hopefully it is a motivating tool. These tools have to be easy to update, don't they?

Yesterday was good. I had a long cardio session yesterday, including spin bike, so that's going to account for the dip. Oooh, just felt a small earthquake. Life in California… Anyway, just 10 days left in this round. Have a great day, everyone.

I hope that the surgery goes/went well.

Yes, start something in that garden area. Beans are easy and quick to plant. Being in Hawaii, you can grow all year!

    Week 12 Actual Weight: 138.4

Day 85—11/15 — 137.2 - Getting 2 days off per week officially came into play yesterday. I'm not sure if it will begin this coming week or later on. It will be an adjustment for me after years of 6 or 7 days per week. I will hit my stride after getting used to it.

Day 86—11/16 — 137.4 - I have been re-arranging my downstairs bathroom for the last couple of days, because the plumber comes tomorrow to service my pump down there and everything was in front of it. I had to take apart the over the toilet shelving unit which was a bit hilarious. This morning before work I will clean everything down there, which is my primary bathroom. I actually never use the one on the main floor. No final answer yet as to whether my schedule will change starting tomorrow or not. I really need the 2 days off in a row to get the rest of my garden harvested, turned over, mulched/composted, and covered until April.

Day 87—11/17 — 137.8 - Day off tomorrow, so tonight might be a bit indulgent, probably the 6 frozen cooked chicken wings left out of the box of 12. I almost skipped dinner last night, but I had made it, so ate it. Jump up on the scale, it was 400 calories that I didn't need I guess. Watched the Grey Cup from work, and then when I got home (I live close to work, so left during a commercial). Starting next week I am going to get 2 days off per week instead of 1!! Yay! I have one garden bed left to do, I will get a start on it after work today and then spend all day tomorrow on it. Awaiting the plumber this morning. Argh to having to take apart the over toilet cabinet, moving everything, and cleaning. I will slowly put it back together over the course of this week.

Day 88—11/18 — 137.4 - My neighbour had a pack of frozen chicken cordon bleu that she inadvertently had thawed. She offered me 2, because as we know you can't refreeze thawed chicken. I cooked them both in the toaster over….and ate both!!! I had a half cup of basmati underneath. Delicious. Way over my usual calorie intake, but I still ended up with a deficit for the day and lost .4 of a pound. Maybe it will catch up with me in days to come. We are in a water advisory for 2 days, so I have many things filled with water. Raining on my one day off today, as I knew that it would be, so I went hard in the garden past dark.

I had planned to process beets and carrots all day today, but with the water advisory I think that I will have to wait, and save all of my buckets of water for flushing and stuff.

If the rain stops I will get out for a walk. Not wasting water on cleaning today lol. I had a fantastic bath last night after the garden in preparation for not having water for 2 days. Today will be lots of Fitness Marshall, and I don't know what else I will get up to today. All of the things that I normally do include water.

Day 89—11/19 — 136.8 - Water advisory was not lifted, not getting my Wednesdays off this week and next : - ( I could have taken a job at Joseph creek (LTC + Independent living) but I am feeling sorry for myself so I am going to go to my first public skating of the season after work today instead of taking a job/working : - )

Day 90—11/20 — 137.2 - Water advisory still in effect, I had 3 days of dishes, and just washed them anyway. I suppose that I will dip them in a bleach solution later, I was out of counter space. I am itching to get my beets and carrots processed, but I will have to wait. Skating was so great, 40 minutes although I planned only 15-20 for my first skate of the season. An opportunity has come up for me, I have a meeting right after work today. I won't speak about it until after that, if I am interested in it.

    Day 91—11/21 —

    Week 13 Start Weight: 137.2

    Week 13 Goal: 135.2

Thoughts at the start of this round:

This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine. I am grateful for you all.

Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

    CURRENT WEEK:

    Day 86—11/16—180.2 ↔️ (Trend Weight: 182.5)

    Day 87—11/17—178.8 ✅ (Trend Weight – 182.1)

    Day 88—11/18—179.4 ❌ (Trend Weight: 181.8)

Day 89—11/19—178.4 ✅ (Trend Weight: 181.5) I have never been so happy to be “overweight” ! According to the BMI charts I am out of the “obese” category and into the “overweight” category now. This is a big step for me as it’s all about health. This diabetic/thyroid belly is starting to deflate a bit and I envision my fatty liver getting better and my visceral fat shrinking with less strangulation on my organs. I added a little something to my exercise yesterday and I finally drank more water. Both helped. My sleep has been pretty good the past couple of days too. I did go for much lower calories yesterday after the pizzeria outing the day before tilted the scale back up a bit in order to make up for it. I treated it like a bill that needed paying. I’m out of debt on that and back to my normal macros today. It really helped that I did not have any out-of-town appointments or excursions this past week. That won’t be the case leading into Thanksgiving.

🦃🦃🦃🦃 Day 90—11/20—179.6 ❌ (Trend Weight: 181.5) I had a glucose drop last night and probably ate too many smarties to bring it back up. Otherwise my day and exercise were good. It seems like a lot of gain just for packs of smarties, but then again there is the technical thing that goes on with the glucose too. Today will be another good day. I’m not giving up my 170’s, not by a long shot! I will increase my carbs slightly and see if that helps the glucose. A friend is coming to put a new battery in the dead pick-up truck today so I can get air in the tire. It’s been sitting too long I guess. I hardly use it. I’ve never had it fixed on the spot, just at the local garage. However, it’s dead where it sits. So hopefully the repair/replacement will be okay.

@age_is_just_a_number I 100% agree with you. I mean, 3 pounds is still only 3 pounds no matter where it sits in my data. That's the physical of it, but then there's the psychological side of it. I think I mentioned that it looked and felt like the great wall of china for me. A barrier that seemed impossible and impassable.

If I could just get over those psychological barriers, the food noise and all that other stuff that gets in the way…… I know that you know what I mean. For me, sometimes I am my own worst enemy! LOL

@dawnbgethealthy I'm so happy that you got to go skating, one of your loves! I, too, picture that skating pic of you when I think of you. BTW, love the garden pics. My carrot pics were my favorites!

Thank you for the info! I'm definitely going to look into this. I don’t have a lot of space for workout equipment, so I need to focus on versatile, compact tools.

    @dawnbgethealthy Re: starting a garden….
My goal is to start with the ingredients I use most (mostly for cooking as I'm not a big salad eater), especially some pricier items that end up going to waste if I don't get to using all of it. Thinking of starting with garlic, parsley, green onions, sweet round onions, herbs, and tomatoes. And eventually try adding carrots, lettuce, and different cabbages to the mix. I’m not even sure what’s possible for me yet or where to begin, so there’s lots of learning ahead. Just dreams for now. :)

Low key day yesterday. No puppy accidents! So, that is a plus. Walked the dog. Workout was Isometric holds. Got a phone call from my doctor's office this morning, have bursitis and torn cartilage in my right knee, which I had an ultrasound done on on Tuesday this week. No walking (big problem for me; seriously, how am I supposed to not walk? I'll be ignoring that advice for certain), no jumping (problem for me) and no running (not a problem for me, I've never been a runner) for 6 weeks and then redo. While on the phone, I also mentioned that I've been having problems with my left hip, knee and ankle (the ankle is the worst right now, but I think the source is the hip), she noted it down and will get back to me. I'm sure he's going to order x-rays or ultra sound on the left leg. We'll see. The worst part is my doctor is retiring in January 😪. He is the best doctor and has been our doctor for 34 years. It is not surprising that he is retiring, but now we have to find a new family doctor. I know age is just a number and I keep telling everyone that I'm getting younger (lol), but today, I feel really old, like my body is starting to fall apart.

Only 1 red IN day left in the last 7 days. A few more days and I'll be all green. On Sunday, I'm going to the ROM & AGO with a friend, who is visiting from Vancouver. (I know, lots of walking) and then she's coming to our place for dinner. I'm sure it is going to be a high calorie day. The good news is, I can plan for it by scaling back my breakfast. I've learned from Dawn that I can't completely skip breakfast, but I have found that I can scale it back when I know I'm going to have a large meal later in the day.

Food and exercise were good. Yesterday was strength day. Today will be easy walks and possibly some low key yoga. Have a great day.

I completely forgot that today is the last day for week 13.

    Start 141.6
Goal 136 (remember I set those a few weeks ago; This strategy has not worked for me and I won't do it again) + keep IN calories to 1770
Actual 140.1 IN calories: 1,823 average for past 7 days ; 1,855 average for the 6 days of week 13 (today is technically the last day and I won't have today's IN until tomorrow) —> Either way, not bad and lower than my average IN for the year which is 1,960.
    Loss this week 1.5
Total Challenge loss 1.6 (in a nutshell —> weeks 1 to 12 were just ups and downs the entire time)

One 9 day week to go for this challenge. I'm working toward 0.5 to 1.0 lbs loss in that one week. Then start Challenge 25 with a good downward trend and clear mindset!

I was thinking about this yesterday and thought about this old saying "A watched pot never boils".
I was reflecting on that as an analogy to weight loss — are we watching too closely? is that preventing us from losing? will it never come off because I'm watching? —> No, because the old saying is NOT correct. A watched pot will boil in exactly the same amount of time as an unwatched pot.

Good Morning! How did everyone do this week?

@frankwbrown , I know how you feel....I am almost afraid to see how I actually did this quarter. Still, this IS a lifetime change....no timetable. Hang in there! I am. 🙂

    @deepwoodslady , CONGRATS! That's a huge milestone!

Day 85—11/15— 159.4 - My daughter called and I could tell she was sad so I decided to cheer her up and asked if she wanted me to go to the Amish Market and get some pretzel cheese dogs and she didn't say no. So I went over there. The LINES! I waited 15 or 20 minutes to get service. I also got 2 cinnamon sugar pretzels. Daughter was happier with the treat. I had one pretzel dog for lunch and one for dinner and finished off the grapes.

Day 86—11/16— 159.4 - Making dinner for my daughter at my ex's....coulotte steaks, roasted potatoes and asparagus....all on the grill. I hope it comes out OK. Not having a grill at my apartment, I don't get a chance to use a grill. But its the best way to do steaks, of course. 🙂

Day 87—11/17— 159.4 - I seem to be holding my own this week. I won't complain.

The dinner came out great, if I do say so myself....everything was delicious. My daughter said it was the best meal she'd had since she started staying with my ex. It was a bit labor intensive since I was doing everything myself, but worth it. I was SO tired when I got home....but it was a good tired.

I had one of my chicken breakfast sandwiches with an added slice of cheese, because they really skimp on the cheese. Not sure what the rest of the day holds.

    Day 88—11/18— Forgot to weigh

Day 89—11/19— 161.4 - Went to the Asian buffet for dinner last night....my friend's treat....that's why the increase. I was expecting it. Back to normal today. But I got crab legs...my favorite!

Miserable day out...rainy and cold. And I have to go out and pick up an order at Macy's.

    Day 90—11/20— Forgot to weigh.....grrrrrr!

Day 91—11/21— 159.6. - That 159.0 is still eluding me! Well, it has to happen eventually. Haven't had anything to eat yet today. I promised my daughter I would go over and make a small batch of sugar cookies. And she needs her sheets washed and bed remade. So I will get a little exercise. Her back is doing a little better and she now has a boot on her foot instead of bandages so she can get a shower now.

My best friend has moved away. I am sad. It won't be the same without him....very lonely. 😪

    Week 13 Start Weight: 159.4

    Week 13 Goal: 159!

    Week 13 Actual Weight: 159.6 😑

Throw some carrot seeds in for sure, but they take quite awhile. You are in a temperate climate. Onions will start giving you onion tops (green onions) pretty quickly, some herbs will come up pretty quickly, but others don't like the heat. Beet tops for sauteeing happen fairly quickly, the beets themselves take some time. If you can buy some tomato plant seedlings and stick them in they will grow great in your climate. Lettuce is very quick. Garlic….in my zone, goes into the ground in October, and is harvested in August, but I am not sure how it would work in your area.

I would say to just buy a couple of pre-started tomato plants, not too fussy. They will love the heat there. Throw in some carrot seeds and herb seeds. Voila. Haha, I am excited about this, since it is my life pretty much 😅

Yes, the body does think that age is more than just a number. Especially joints and stuff. We wear them out over time.
