Corn is not a vegetable

Corn is a grain and is not good for you..
It's a high-glycemic grain
Lol. Well, if you are concerned with your glycemic count, then it's probably a food to limit or eliminate. If you are not, it probably doesn't matter. Although I believe it's true glycemic level increases the longer you wait to eat it after picking. I believe freshly picked corn (like that day) is much lower.
With that said, most corn I believe is gmo, so I will only eat organic.
Eta: and no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, will ever come between me and my popcorn!
You know that something organic can still be gmo right? organic is how its grown, gmo is how it is spliced.
If it has become genetically modified (such as with cross-pollination) it can no longer be classified as organic.
Cross pollination =/= GMO.0 -
Corn is NOT a healthy food and tells the body to process sugars in a not-so-healthy way (putting it simply).
Please explain.
Not sure what the original poster of the statement meant, but I'm guessing he meant that it spikes your blood sugar (as do all high glycemic index foods) which the body handles by converting some of the excess blood sugar to fat, then when the blood sugar level drops, the person crashes and gets a carb craving. A nasty cycle.0 -

wrong wrong wrong...:grumble:
another Minnie follower...Yah /sarcasm
Actually corn is a veggie when harvested early for human consumption, a grain when harvested late and each kernal is a fruit.
Recently read an article about this debate from the Mayo clinic. Classification is confusing so not sure why this debate continues..no one is "technically" wrong.0 -
Eat corn, have corn poop.
How cool is that?

Organic does not mean non-gmo
Actually (I know, that's the best word to start a response with, isn't it? Really invokes a sense of comradery, doesn't it?) most certified organic labels require it to be non-GMO for it to be organic.

Cross pollination =/= GMO.
No...Scientist in a lab taking genes out of one SPECIES OF SOMETHING and forcing them into the genes of another SPECIES OF SOMETHING = GMO (making a completely new species)
We are not talking about farmers pollinating one breed of corn with a different breed of corn to make a HYBRID. This has been done since the dawn of time and CAN AND HAS happened on it's own with no help from humans.
GMO's are developed in labs. They absolutely, under no circumstances, would EVER occur naturally in nature....EVER.0 -

I can only assume they meant cross pollinated with a GMO crop, making successor seeds, to some extent, GMO.0 -

The huge jump in childhood food allergies in the US is in the news often[1], but most reports fail to consider a link to a recent radical change in America’s diet. Beginning in 1996, bacteria, virus and other genes have been artificially inserted to the DNA of soy, corn, cottonseed and canola plants (ADD TO THIS...SUGAR BEETS...WHEAT....PAPAYA FROM HAWAII...SOME CHILIES). These unlabeled genetically modified (GM) foods carry a risk of triggering life-threatening allergic reactions, and evidence collected over the past decade now suggests that they are contributing to higher allergy rates.
(AND IF YOU READ FURTHER.....SOME OF THE GENES INTRODUCED INTO OUR FOODS HAS BEEN COMBINING WITH OUR DNA!!!)

I'd wager the same holds true of any other crop, thanks to the nature of selective breeding.0
