cutting out all "cheat" foods

I've been doing a decent job I think of losing weight over the last year (86lbs to date). I'm 197 and my GW is 185. I have been trying to balance foods I like into my diet and I seem to be stuck at 197. So I think i'm going to cut out all the "cheat" foods and see where that gets me.

I don't understand... the very first line was about how you've been making good progress. Why are you changing your approach? Keep the same approach, just cut total cals a bit more.
For many people, restricting foods does more harm than good, especially in the long run.0 -
I'd say that was more than decent. Have you been adjusting your calorie intake to your weight loss and activity level? If you're still eating the calories you did 20 pounds ago, it's not going to work. Also, the weight will come off more slowly the less you have to lose.0

There are no such things as "cheat foods". You can eat anything you want, when you want. (*)
Try recalculating your TDEE/BMR and make sure you weigh your food - all that good stuff you've been doing so well to date.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've done that from the beginning. For me it's a way of life. I don't even like the word cheat. Good for you.0

I'd be binging like crazy if I tried this, just like these others. Not worth it to me. I haven't "cut" anything out and still lost quite a bit! I'm content with myself at my current size. Even though I'm not at my "goal" I'm healthier, able to run, and overall feel better. That should be the REAL goal...feeling better!0 -

Cheat foods? You mean all of the delicious foods that people eat in day to day life and up to this point, you've successfully fit into your diet? Why would you cut those out?
Make sure, after 86 pounds, that your calorie intake is still correct for weight loss.0 -

Yes, you would be correct. Right now i'm eating roughly 2200 calories a day, maybe i'll need to drop it down to 18000 -

That sounds like a far better idea.0 -
I normally try to save my "treats" until Saturday but sometimes then when I start I find it hard to stop and start looking for anything (carbs in particular) to stuff in my gob. I'm wondering if the build up until the weekend causes this and maybe if I had smaller amounts of "naughty" food daily this would not happen? Thoughts?0

A very intelligent man once said:
"There are no such things as "cheat foods". You can eat anything you want, when you want. (*)"
I think he commented above. You should really listen to him.

why would cutting out "cheat" foods be a bad idea?0 -
Losing weight is a case of trial and error. Try it and see if that works for you.
Good luck!0 -

I have read through the thread. I haven't had a binge at all since I began to lose weight, and I was extremely restrictive in the beginning. Even though I relaxed at a little now. I think I should be restrictive now to get me to my goal0 -

I have gone through a few different things to lose weight, I guess I haven't found one thing that works so I guess I'll just keep trying different things0 -

Then it may not be a problem for you. You asked a very general question, we gave very general advice. Some people are fine with highly restrictive diets. Most people aren't. You certainly know yourself better than we do.0 -

I personally wouldn't cut 'cheat' foods at all, but just eat less of them (which you'll have to do pretty much if you cut your calories anyway).0 -

You HAVE to be kidding - you've got this nailed down. There is one thing that's working consistently and that's your effort and stamina - you're doing amazing - 86lbs lost!!
Just stick with and change it around when you need to.0 -

I don't know if that's right, even when I did a 25% calorie reduction it gave me 2600 calories, that's alot0 -

Honestly, i'm not kidding. The only thing constant is working out and running. I have tried a few different eating styles (paleo, Primal, Intermittent Fasting etc)0 -
You've only got 12 lbs to go... how tall are you?0

The eating style you chose, by in large, doesn't matter. It's the calories. Those approaches are just things people use to help with adherence.
2000 cals is 2000 cals regardless of when/how you eat it.0 -
You might try a short term cut. If you feel like you're stalled out just before the finish line, try cutting gluten or added sugar for a week. It's not a long term deprivation, but might be something that jolts your body into doing what you want it to do.
86 lbs lost is AMAZING. Keep up the great work!0
