DeeDee - I laughed when I read you freeze trash because I do the same thing. Anything stinky gets frozen! Fortunately we have only the freezer at the bottom of the fridge, otherwise mine would be 5 years old, too.

Today at the Y I went past my goal of lifting 2,000,000 pounds in 2013. YAY!! Then I went for a massage -- double YAY!! Waiting for DH to get home from work to get on with the rest of the day.

Trying to think of a Christmas present for DH that 1) he doesn't know about; 2) doesn't return; and 3) will be excited about. His birthday is also in early January. He's a golfer, but tends to get things as soon as the idea hits. At Thanksgiving he told us about a couple of items he wanted (as an Xmas idea), then he turned around and bought it online on Black Friday. Since he is a Braves fan I'm investigating spring training and maybe arrange a trip to a game or two.

Brrrr!! It is really cold here, -19F this morning.:frown: My truck is stuck at work. It was plugged in the night before last and started fine yesterday but after sitting at work in below zero temps for 11 hours it would not start when I wanted to come home last night. My hubby picked me up but he is working this morning and so we can not do anything about the truck until this afternoon. The high today is supposed to be 4F. I am so thankful to have a warm home. My poor poodle got clipped and bathed yesterday, bad timing. She is laying curled up on the futon now and does not stay very long when she goes out.

Blood tests for tumor markers came back negative. However the CT and ultrasound were not diagnostic so now they want me to do an MRI to get a better look at the liver lesion. Possibilities range from a collection of fatty cells to a neoplasm. I just want a decision. MRI will not be until January 7 as we are traveling for Christmas.

Katla - I would guess that the break is not displaced so they are not in a hurry to do anything but will wait for a specialist. Since it involves your hand that is well worth it. I should not think that the healing is far enough along that it would require rebreaking besides if is not displaced it would only require keeping it aligned. You have a window of time before the callus starts forming. Take care.

Pat (Phoo) - I am with you on the grazing. When it is cold I want to keep eating. I believe I subconsciously think it will fuel and warm my body which is not necessarily true. I seem to always reach for sweets too when I do this. I should stick with hot chocolate and soup I think or maybe try Grandmallie's warm lemon water.

Sending warm wishes to all who are in the deep freeze, healing angels to those in need and congratulations to those with victories. Sue in SD

Barbsunshine years ago we developed a good alternative to get everyone where they want/need to go for Christmas. At the time we had 3 preachers and 2 people who worked in the hospital so you know you don't have a good chance to be off for Christmas. So Thanksgiving was at the Peterson house, no arguement. But Christmas was at inlaws home or where ever they wanted to be. then we all settled on a date, usually early January for Peterson family Christmas. Christmas is not a date but a spirit in your heart. And you can get a lot of shopping done at after Christmas sales! One year my brother, in the Navy on a sub, hadn't been able to come home for several years. Due to the wonderful intelligence of the US military, they built a submarine in Washington state to be stationed in Conneticut!:noway: Half the team on the sub were going to take it through the Panama canal and up the east coast, other half would travel by car. My brother was the team that traveled by car. So we had Christmas as the end of February!!!! My girls were young and they thought they were the coolest kids in school to have Christmas then. We have kept it that way every year so there is never any fighting with the inlaws on who gets the kids for Christmas. Something to think about.

Gail, I have the hardest time buying for my husband also. One year he was really into par 3 golf. he would have to go to the golf course and rent the clubs. So I bought him a set of clubs and a carrying bag. He was irate and took it all back. I don't think he has played since. I really thought that would be one thing he would take up when he retired. His brother loves to play golf. He oftens say that he wishes his siblings would do more with each other and he has that opportunity but just doesn't.

What a difference a good nights sleep makes! I have really been pushing the fluids, would help both the bladder and sinuses. Still some sinus drainage which makes me cough but everything else is so much better.

DH spent a lot of time outside this morning cleaning off both the cars. The only time he shovels the snow off the side walk is when we have company so he hasn't done that. Hopefully by our Christmas Jan 4th it will be clean and dry. Are you listening God??? He does shovel the grass though between the front door and the cars. So he was a bad boy in not following doctors orders. He didn't have any chest pain or shortness of breath. Also he didn't go to the mall and walk.

Cindy thanks for sending warm thoughts:flowerforyou:

:flowerforyou: Barbiesunshine The last two Christmas were like that for me, so this year I am going all out. I put my Josh Groban Noel in my car and sing away.

Sylvia glad you are taking care of you.:flowerforyou:

:flowerforyou: Gail congrats :drinker: on reaching your goal. Massage AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

    Sue prayers:flowerforyou:

Went to a woman's expo at the local community center I. The best thing I came away from it was moisturize, moisturize, moisturize especially when the temp is 2 above.

Wasn't able to get together with my student, so intentional kindness was to put money in the salvation army kettle and money for the people in the Philippines. My church works with UMCOR so I am donating through them.
Joyce glad you are feeling better.

:flowerforyou: Hi MFP friends. Yoga today was chilly. This was unfortunate. The heat was on, but it just could not keep up with the drafty building we were in. Only 3 participants today too. I still enjoyed it, though and we concentrated on shoulders today. This I can do.

Afterwords I went shopping to find a gift for the gift exchange at the office. Maximum $15. Found a cake knife and serving set. If it ends up back in my hands I won't mind. That's the way you have to look at a gift exchange when it involves playing a stealing game  :ohwell: I found some other things as well, all under $20 each, so I thought I did pretty well. And that from a gal who hates shopping!!

:flowerforyou: Called my mom once I got home (just like every weekend, 9 hrs time difference). I had heard from one of my sisters that she had fallen in the bedroom and could not get up, and no one heard her until she was able to crawl closer to the door and someone walking in the hallway heard her call for help. From now on she will be more diligent to wear her alarm around her neck, so she can just push a button. Fortunately nothing broken, although she did fall on her sore hip. A good outcome was that she gave away her (very old) living room area rug. Sigh of relief for us kids, since she has tripped over that on numerous occasions. Now she says she misses that rug, as the whole room looks so different. This is understandable since she's 90, in a care home and any change just is hard on anyone that old. Heck, change is hard on me! Mom lives in Holland for those who remember, so it can get a little scary for me at times thinking about how she's doing being so far away. But my 2 sisters live close at hand and they keep me posted. Telephone conversations between mom and me almost always end by one telling the other "god bless you" and the other saying back " and be of good courage". It's something my dad would tell people and we've taken over the habit.

 I am working on some bookkeeping, but keep procrastinating  Bleh. It's 3 PM and hubby is grocery shopping. I think I will light some candles and put some music on. Makes the paperwork more palatable for characters like me.

:flowerforyou: My day was enjoyable but a challenge to walk the 10,000 steps I’m aiming for. I was able to successfully avoid the muffins, bagels, and scones that were set out for breakfast and the pizza for lunch. I brought Isagenix bars so I’d have something to eat. One of my friends who was at the same event is following the Paleo diet and she brought all her own food…..I got up at 3:30 so I’d have time for the before and after walks with the dogs one at a time and still be ready to leave at 7 AM……it’s a two hour drive to Tacoma and we were happy that there were only a few small patches of ice on the roads….it was 22 degrees when we left the house…..beautiful sunny sky all day

 Held my plank for 90 seconds today…..my shoulders and muscles in front are strong but my back still aches a bit

 Gail, Jake said you should tell your husband that he already has his Christmas gift…….or else if you know exactly what kind of golf ball he likes, you could buy him an extra supply---even good golfers need lots of golf balls.

 Jane, how great that you found the doll for Violet.

:flowerforyou: Renny, when I was out walking the dogs early this morning, it seemed that the sky was clear except in your direction……we have perfect weather here right now
cold and clear and appears to be staying that way for a few days….I hope you’re finding ways to stay warm.

Gael from australia - welcome! My daughter spent 6 months volunteering at a koala reserve in australia. She painted a big 6' Tasmanian Devil on the wall in her room here. Love meeting people from all over. What type of problem have you been having with your knee?

Renny - how do you increase the font size? Guess MFP is gearing more towards 20 and 30-somethings. We need larger font size...lol

Well, Vince did convince Jessica not to come down this weekend. We told her that would be the best birthday gift she could give him. And it would.

Heather - thanks for the advice about being able to freeze the wine. I hate opening a full bottle just for one cup, and I'm not a wine drinker at all. We have a friend whose husband was in the Air Force so they lived all over the world. She has nativity scenes from all over and displays them every Christmas. We have an ornament that Vince got when he was very little, he still remembers going to the store and picking it out. It's been on the tree every year since. I also saw in Cooks Illustrated that you can freeze it. Wonder how much can go in an ice cube? 1/4 cup maybe? If so, I'll make cubes and then keep them in the freezer.

DeeDee - I'm trying not to stress over the holiday, but with Thanksgiving so late, I feel like I don't have as much time. Vince and I will make the pierogi for Christmas Eve today. He said to Jessica "good, you and Kris can help make the pierogi", but now that she's not coming, I said to him "you know what that means, you'll be helping make the pierogi". His response? "Let me call Jess back". I do hope he's joking, it's really not all that bad.

Off to yoga now. I'm thinking that tomorrow I'll do the belly dance DVD that I have, haven't done that in a while.

margaretturk - I really like that "open with a smile". Glad I haven't mailed my cards yet, I think I'll add that to them. BRRRR!!!!!

Cindy and DeeDee - could you believe the winds yesterday????

    Sylvia - ROTFLMAO

katla - I totally agree, the commercial cookie dough leaves a lot to be desired. Just the other day Jessica was commenting how my cookies were firm, not soft. she said that she'd show me how to make chocolate chip cookies. I asked her if it was a mix or a premade dough and she said "yes". Well...duh...that's why they're soft, they have all sorts of artificial stuff in them. Not for me. I bet ttyl is an acronym for "talk to you later"

barbsunshine - will you be alone? I can't remember the last time I spent Christmas with Bryan. It'll all work out, of that I'm sure.

Gail in Atlanta - you have some good categories to go on for a gift for dh. What about a gift certificate to the pro shop that he likes or the site he likes?

Sue in SD - glad the blood tests came back negative.

Vince and I made 94 pierogi today and only 4 of them broke. That's a lot fewer than previously. Maybe after all this time, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Guess where the broken ones went (my stomach will give you a clue)? At the price of farmer's cheese, I wasn't about to waste it!

I think Vince is planning to get the christmas lights on the tree tomorrow. I'll make this ground turkey soup (I found the recipe in Fix It and Forget It Lightly) and probably the pork chops for this week. Tomorrow night is the Newcomer Christmas party. Not sure what's on the menu. Well, I'm going to have soup for breakfast (yes, you read right, for breakfast), mainly because it's defrosted and I want to use it up.

Went to dinner at Golden Corral for Vince's birthday today. I'm SURE I went over on my calories. But in a way I feel good. OK, that probably sounds silly that I feel good that I went over. Alls I had was tilapia (I scraped as much of this sauce that was on it off as I could), steamed broccoli, steamed cauliflower, cottage cheese, sesame seeds, raw carrots, tomatoes. Only had water to drink. For dessert I had absolutely no desire for any of the cakes, cookies, etc. That's a weird feeling, I am so used to having to really watch my portions. So what did I have for dessert? Grapes, cantaloupe, 3 small pieces of pears, some pineapple tidbits. I tried one of their peaches but I'm pretty sure they were in heavy syrup so I didn't have any. They may have been in light syrup, but I didn't need to take the chance. Now I feel so full it isn't funny.

Joyce - what a neat idea for your Christmas. You're so right, it's more of a feeling than a date.

After yoga went to WalMart. Got some aleve. Remember I was telling you about my arm hurting and I wasn't sure if it was a lateral bicep or a tricep? Well, the aleve seemed to help, it's not totally gone but the pain is definitely diminished.

Vince and I made something like 94 pierogi today (yes, Meg, this is the one time a year that I make them from scratch). Boiled them now they're in the freezer and will thaw them for Christmas Eve and fry them up then. I know we'll have leftovers, but I also know that I'll give some of them away.

    Hi all,

Dad's back is better. He took a Rush Limbaugh special (pain pill) and I think it affected his blood pressure, so I have told him if he takes any of those again, he has to stay in bed...no falling! Now that he is scheduled for an MRI and possible epidural, he says his back is fine. Hmmm. I am going to Florida for a while, I just don't want him to have a bad back while I'm away and have it keep him from moving and going to exercise. He sometimes gets a sour look on his face and says no exercise. Then I have to push. I even had him in the car on Friday, heading to exercise, and his sour puss reared its ugly head. His bicep was achy. Well don't use it during exercise. He said afterwards he was happy he went. Such a cutey-pie now.

When I get to Florida, I am going to do Jazzercise. I used to do it and it was fun. I am also going to do my usual gym-rat stuff and pretend I am at a spa. Swim, bicycle, walk and limit my cals to 1200kcal. See if I get a bump in my weight loss. Tonight I will do the squats...am on the challenge. I will miss my Dad so much. My brother will be here but he's a stress-bug to be around. He also overfeeds my cat and we get into that over and over. I got on him tonight and then he got mad and said he wasn't going to help out with Dad. That's nice. He's single, never been married , no responsibilities but he can't cooperate without making it all about him. I am the youngest and honestly, the most responsible and adult. My husband helps me make good decision, he is very level-headed and fair minded, I am grateful for him especially when my side of the family flakes out.
Well, I am going to hit the hay. I'll vent some more tomorrow.

Ready to sign off and hit the pillow but decided to check-in with what's happening here. Too late to even attempt to respond to all the posts but just know each one of you are special...

I am just learning that we can expect a freezing fog here in the Dallas metro in the morning with news of the local churches cancelling their services. I just spent the last 2 mornings getting safely to work grateful to have Sunday off only to learn I may not be able to attend to church in the morning. I shall take the opportunity to spend quiet time with the Lord here at home for he is always with me.

Sleep well and keep warm all of you who are frozen in America's winter storm Cleon and anyone else who is caught up in the fury of old man winter.

    morning ladies,
well we went to the FIL and the slippers barely fit, thank goodness the jacket is wonderful.. but darn it again the shoes dont fit, his shoes are in horrible shape, slit on the side for water and cold, they wouldnt even be good for a homeless person . it pisses me off(pardon the language) that my SIL and BIL that have control of all his money wont even get him shoes.. I have to find quadruple E shoe for him, when he is home he walks around in socks, which A- is not good for an 86 yr old man.B-his feet have widened so now somehow we have to fine shoes and send them to him
iced my heel, had my warm lemon water, and having tea now and then off to the gym, we are supposed to get yucky weather starting tonight, so what we want to do is pack the car today so that it will be ready for saterday, since we have the other to cars we are using those since the traverse as Tom calls it the gas guzzler

    Good morning beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

I`m feeling much better, and much less stressed:bigsmile: !!! I had a little chit chat with myself yesterday morning about what I could and could not change, and whatever will be, will be and I`ll deal with it and everything will in the end turn out just fine. Then I took a long walk by myself, in the cold, it was quite and peaceful and every step I took I felt all the negative energy flowing away, by the time I got back home my shoulder were no longer aching! I spent the afternoon decorating the tree and loved every minute of it, every ornament tells a story, lots of wonderful happy memories:bigsmile: !

Margaretturk  Thanks for you wonderful advice! We all should take time to be kind to ourselves:flowerforyou: !

Cindy  Very strange weather indeed:noway: , I prefer the high 70`s to the low 30`s any day!!! My raspberry choc chip yoghourt ice cream is freezing. I have to take it out when I've finished this and give it a whirr in the processor. I had a little taste and it's as delicious as ever!

Deedee - glad you are feeling better. A walk in the fresh air is a proven cure for depression.

Your horrible freezing weather and snow was on our news this lunch time. Stay safe! DH is going for a country walk with his cricket friend this Wed and the forecast is sunny 50F. I hope the snow stays away until after Christmas.

DH'S twin sister's DDIL is suffering from cancer and it has got to her brain. So sad. She has a 16 yr old son. He was trying to advise his sister to talk about it rather than bottle it all up. Her husband is useless and we don't like him. A hard time for the family.
I also often think about my friend in London who has cancer. It's hard when people cut themselves off from you, but I know she does that when she is depressed. I might send her birthday present a bit early so she gets it for Christmas as she will have a lot for her 60th in Jan. I'm going to give her a bowl of artificial snowdrops, from the same company as my amaryllis and my Christmas tree. Bloom. Do you have it in the US?

Haven't yet got the decorations out, but I'm not hassling DH as we've plenty of time. We usually wait until nearer Christmas.
I think the cards are the next pressing item. Wish my brother would answer my emails.

Heather: I don’t think I have many ornaments from my childhood, other than an aluminum Christmas tree with a revolving color wheel and some glass balls. I don’t put it up. What I have carefully preserved is boxes of ornaments my kids and I made from salt dough when they were little. A few of the larger ones have broken, but most are surviving. I look at them, but only put a few up if the kids will actually be home. They’re fragile. Last year at “Christmas” the kids were feeling nostalgic and stayed up all night making salt dough ornaments. It made me feel like a success back when. (Last year we were all at DD’s for Thanksgiving and celebrated Christmas two days later because we knew we couldn’t be together for real Christmas.):flowerforyou:

Grandmallie: I love warm lemon water, and never would have thought of it if it weren’t for you. Finally a way to get the water I need without feeling like a martyr! Many thanks. :drinker: Of course, I start drinking hot/warm lemon water after I get my morning coffee fix. I’m still at the coffee stage of the day.

DeeDee: I used to put trash in the freezer but not as much any more. Two reasons: the freezer is full, no room there, and we started bagging stinky things in previously used food saver bags. They aren’t suitable for fresh food again, but we can put garbage in them. Then we take it directly to the outside garbage can. I’m glad your chat with yourself resulted in you feeling better about things. I had to have a chat with myself earlier this month and it also helped.:flowerforyou:

Barbie: Congratulations on the 90 second plank! That is the most I’ve worked up to since I restarted focusing on fitness. I’m thinking I can do planks even with the wrist situation, but haven’t actually tried one yet. I’ll wait until after I see the hand specialist on Monday.:flowerforyou:

Michele: On my computer I can increase font size on websites by holding down the command key and hitting the plus sign until I reach a comfortable size.:flowerforyou:

The Christmas Ships group changed their minds about doing the parade here some time during the day yesterday, and held it after all. It was bitterly cold and there were likely fewer participants because of it. I appreciate those who came. It is only 10 degrees out there this morning. BRRR! The Christmas Ships group spent the night on their boats at the County Courthouse docks. They likely have good furnaces. If they follow the schedule they’ll go from here back to Portland this evening and give folks along the Multnomah Channel their annual show. I’m amazed and grateful they came. That took real dedication, and maybe just a touch of stubborn insanity.:heart:

    Katla in beautiful NW Oregon

    December goals:

    1. Log every bite and swallow
    2. Focus on fitness: cardio and strength every week
    3. Drink at least 3 glasses of water every day
  • Good morning all,
I am a female, just turned 50 last month and would love to get to know you all and participate here.

I successfully lost almost a 100 pounds 13 years ago. I battle a regain of 15-20 pounds off and on now and it sure is a tough row to get this off.

I am a walker but need to up my game as my body is so used to it.

    Anyway, here I am:)

Hope we get to be good cyber friends.

Good morning! Another cold day, but no more snow or ice, so we can't complain too much.

Hubby was walking our dogs yesterday afternoon, and about 6 neighborhood dogs went along. The goldens from next door were among them. Just then, a car pulled into the neighbors drive and the kids got out along with an older lady I think may be the grandmother. They took a few minutes to put the dogs back inside the fence, then drove away. The dogs were out of their yard and back at our door before the car got to the corner. Hubby thinks they are going under the fence, and once they get out, they can't get back in. They are wearing shock collars, but I don't think they are working. So, I think the parents must be gone on a trip or something, and the grandparents are keeping the kids and looking after their house. That's my guess anyway. So, the goldens were at our house again last night. They were barking outside our bedroom window about 5am, which set off our dogs. Molly was barking her head off but didn't want to go outside. She doesn't like the cold. We left the little nest in the storm room along with food and water, so that's about the best we could do overnight. We'll try to get them back in their own yard later this morning. They have a storage shed that has a dog room built into the back of it, where they usually have food and water left out. We live in a small development where the lots are 2 acres or more each, and its a rural county with no leash laws and no dog catcher. Besides, we have a really friendly neighborhood and try to look out for each other. I think they would look out for our dogs if the situation were reversed. Of course that would never happen. I really don't get people who keep their dogs outside. Ours are part of the family.

So, I didn't sleep much last night. I hope everybody has a nice Sunday.

Katla, you beat me to the punch! I was going to say you can also hold the CTRL key and scroll up or down on the wheel on your mouse to increase/decrease your monitor view.

DH was really tired - he took a 4-hour nap yesterday and finally just got up around 10:30a. I didn't want to wake him as he sleeps so weirdly anymore.

Need to go to the grocer store and then later I'm going to the church's Christmas concert with my friend this afternoon. Looking forward to that time with her.

    Good Afternoon All,
Renny know what it like to have an elder mom far away. Mine is 95 and lives 600 miles away.

Sylvia I  dogs. I agree about leaving them out all day. We had a neighbor who did that and the little dog was miserable.
    They have since moved away.

    Welcome Stevie :flowerforyou:

Katla Christmas Ships sound like fun. What a sight.

Heather prayers for DH's twin sister

DeeDee loved hearing about decorating the tree. Any favorites? Our tree goes up today.

Susan sounds like you husband is a rock. Happy for you.

    Michelle glad arm fells better.

Barbie cat sounds like you went in with a plan. Good for you! I hope to do the same when the Christmas goodies call my name.

My act of intentional kindness was to get up at 6:30 to sing in choir at 8:15. The body was weak and I overslept til 7:45. I made it by 8:30. I continue to work on my goal of getting good sleep, so I do not oversleep again.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Margaret

:flowerforyou: Sorry I've been missing, I've had a tummy bug   and had a few days off work with it. Still feel a bit under the weather, but think I'm getting better. Not a good way to lose the pounds.

:frown: I need to catch up again, it's hard when you miss a few days to keep up with all your news.

:noway: I've heard the weather is really cold in some parts, and hope all my friends in the US are keeping safe. We've had some flooding over here on the east coast of the UK and some have lost their homes.

:flowerforyou: While I've been off work I've been watching lots of cheesy Christmas movies  I love 'em! My DD has walked out of the room in disgust a few times, but even if I wasn't ill I'd still be watching them if I had chance

:flowerforyou: I'm just waiting for the semi final results for the X Factor to come on, I think they are all good this year and don't really have a favourite.

    Take care everyone.

    Happy Sunday All,

Yesterday was such fun. I went to the Mall to get some walking in. Anyway, I passed by JCPenney's and they were having an awesome Doorbuster sale. I found 3 nice long sleeve blouses to wear around Christmas and they were all 50% off. Just love a good deal. I walked for almost four hours.

I need to find some garden soil today and transplant some roses my daughter sent me for my birthday. One is a bright yellow and the other is a mixture of orange and yellow. They are floribundas and growing them in a greenhouse is all new to me. Wish me luck.

    afternoon Chica's,
well I am just sitting down, oh lordy is my heel killing me. I have been on my feet and going since 5:30 this morning...
went to the gym, came home the DH and I packed the car for the trip.. less we have to do during the week.I made his dinner for today and for tomorrow and his lunch for tomorrow also.
did 2 loads of laundry,we went to Sam's right after 10 am when we are aloud in,and bought 2 cases of dog food, one to take with us and one for here.. we are crazy.. we buy 1/2 & 1/2 in quarts and we buy it a case at a time.. that is one thing I wont give up,but it take us about 6 weeks to go through, the date is way out there so its fine..
well the ding a ling DH lost the keys to the traverse which we are driving down so he went over to the dealership and spent 160.00 on new key and remote, and guess what he found in his outdoor work jacket this morning:ohwell: what a ding a ling, now had that been me who lost the keys he would had a freakin cow... going to have to look at the long range forecast so I know what kind of clothes to bring.
well am sending my FIL shoes back this man walks around in his socks, which I think I mentioned before..so finally found a pair of new balance sneakers with velcro that dont cost an arm and a leg for 56.00 in a 4 E,his foot is so wide and he has to wear braces on his legs so they have to fit in the shoe too..OY...
so I am parked and having a cup of gingerbread spice tea:drinker:

Sitting here with a big heavy throw over my legs. DH said he could turn the temp up to 73 but why should I pay a higher bill when I can just put a throw on. I don't know what you all are paying but our last bill was $156 and that's to high for my comfort. Rates have gone up recently and I just don't like paying that much. both my sister and daughter would love to have a bill that low but I jsut don't like it.

Really trying to push the fluids to get rid of the rest of my burning on urination and sinus problems. The bladder is much better but still having a lot of post nasal drip.

Still looking for that elusive gift for my husband. The only thing he really needs is a new cell phone. Right now he is using my old tracfone and I think it uses the Sprint towers. Many times it can't pick up any cell phone towers. He didn't carry it at all until he had his heart attack. So when he is at the mall it does him no good if he has angina there and can't get me or anyone else there. He is also technologically challenged and it's hard for him to answer the phone. So he has a flip phone and all you have to do is to flip it open. So that's my idea of a present. He is well known for getting a gift and not keeping his feelings to himself. He loves unusual globes and he does have 3 that he likes. But a person can have just so many globes. The one he likes the most is solar powered. He has it right in front of our living window and he likes to watch it slowly spin. He also loves to collect old coins and I wish we had room for a large case to display them in. He also loves karoake and we have all told him that he could pick some more karoake songs and we would pay for them but he never picks anything out. Also still looking for a lady big necklace for my 7 year old GD. I never would have realized it would be that difficult.

Bump for tomorrow; I have a chapter to finish. If I get done, I'll be back later, but if not....stay warm! It's snowing here and cold but at least there is no wind! Take care Meg from Omaha where it looks like a winter wonderland

Michelle - my DH, Stan, is 100% Polish, so I have made a traditional Christmas Even dinner for him pretty much since we were married 40+ years ago. Not so bad for a mostly Irish girl. :blushing:

I use a combo of his grandmother's and mother's recipes for the pierogi. We both love the ones with farmer cheese (no potato for us!)). His mom also used to make a filling with kraut and mushrooms that was quite tasty. Yep, we boil them too, then sauté them in a skillet with some butter and caramelized onions. What else do you make for Christmas Eve?? We don't do 12 dishes, but always have a mushroom soup I make, plus a scallop-based appetizer, and baked fish with a shrimp or crab stuffing on top. It's a lot of work, so I have always made enough to freeze for later.

Did an hour of a Kathy Smith Belly Dance DVD today. I really wish there was a place around here where I can get some belly dancing lessons just to be sure I'm doing it right. Then put a recipe for Ground Turkey Soup in the crockpot. Not sure how that's going to come out. Read the paper then made mandarin Pork Chops for later in the week along with ginger honey shrimp.

Tomorrow is yoga, holding my plank, and then the extremepump class. I'm thinking that I should take an advil for my arm before the class.

I can't get over how cold it's gotten. This morning when I went out to get the paper, I didn't put a coat on. Just now I went to put something in the garbage and really hurried back.

grandmalle - my father had very wide feet. Even in winter he would wear sandals. Of course, I got him this pair of really heavy socks, but at least he had something that he could put on his feet.

katla - that works to increase the font. Thanks so much

Stevie - welcome to a wonderful group of ladies

Sylvia - how nice of you to take care of your neighbor's dog. Reminds me of when we first moved into our house. We were getting things from storage and bringing them to the house. The neighbor went away and thought her hubby was taking care of their dog. He went away, closed the garage door, and left the dog outside. He's a real sweet dog and just stayed at our house. I actually went to the store and bought him a bag of dog food and put out a container of water. Fortunately, his owner's phone number was on his collar so we called her. she was in FL at the time but got in touch with her hubby who came and took care of the dog. He still visits us on occasion, I don't have a problem with it. They did get this wireless "fence" but sometimes it doesn't work and he comes over.

Viv - glad you're feeling better. Take care of yourself

angie007az - good luck with your rose bushes. That reminds me that I have this one rose bush, I HATE it, especially where it's planted. Next summer, it goes. I'll ask this lady at the Y who I know her son is a landscaper if he wants it. If he does, he can have it.

grandmalle - there have been many times when I've gone into Sams before 10 and they've never said anything to me.

Jill in MA - I only make the farmer cheese pierogi. I would eat the ones with sauerkraut and mushrooms, but I'm the only one who would. I don't care for the potato, either. My grandmother used to make them with prunes, I don't know that I'd care for that. Wiglia this year will be crab cakes, catfish, corn (for Vince), tomato soup (because they won't eat mushroom soup, I'd personally like it but at least Jessica will eat the tomato soup.), mashed potatoes (for Vince), cod, crab legs, lobster, the pierogi, I'll make an apple pie, these cheese crackins, shrimp cornbread casserole, chocolate chip cookies, lemon cookies and these magic cookie bars that Denise likes. I usually made so much that we'd be eating it until March (literally), so this year I'm going to TRY to scale back. Note the word TRY. I can't get the farmer cheese down here, it has a short shelf life and people probably don't know what to do with it so it didn't sell in the stores. When we go to Jessica's at Thanksgiving, tho, I usually buy some and put it in a cooler and bring it home.

Well, off to the Newcomer Christmas party. I'm wondering if my taking the Advil yesterday really made me curb my appetite, so I tok one now. My arm is hurting a bit. Not bad. But for some reason I'm thinking that that might help with cravings. That's silly, I know. But whatever....Maybe it's more in my head than anything else.

Michele in NC - Your Wigilia sounds great! One dish my DMIL used to make was sauerkraut with sardines and mushrooms. Most people think it sounds very strange (I did the first Christmas Eve we spent with the in-laws) but it tastes pretty yummy. If I could get some homemade kraut...... Farmer's cheese is easy to come by here - pretty good-sized Polish community in this area.

Joyce - love that your family adopted the adult man. Sounds like he really needed some family and yours became his. It's a shame that some of the in-laws have problems with that - shame is on them, not him!

Meg - love hearing about your days and what is going on in the big O! I will be back there in April for an awards dinner. It will sure be interesting to see all the changes in just the past few years since I left.

Like many have posted, grazing has been a problem here as well. :embarassed: It's like it's self-defeating behavior.
So Pat-phoo and others, you are far from alone in this battle!! Let's keep at it, though! I think we can all prevail, though it will take some time.

Kevrit - glad you are doing so well at Curves - the ones around here closed about a year ago. I really appreciate our Y!! Looking forward to meeting with you and Grandmaille once she's back from FLA and the weather cooperates!

I am joining a weight loss group there (it's even free for members) so will have the discipline of facing the scale weekly. That has helped me in the past. They also take measurements regularly and we will have to log exercise and journal food (sounds familiar  ).

    Keep drinking water :drinker: :drinker:
