Welcome! What do you do?0 -
Alright. So one thing I did not expect entering the world of financials...this place is DIRTY!
I'm already itching to ask my manager, Dan, if I can go in on Saturday and clean the kitchen because some of us would like to, I dunno.... USE IT! With it in it's current state... it is...uhm...
Other than that, the job is about as boring as I anticipated. *shrug*
Chad put in for demotion.
He doesn't want to be a sergeant anymore, and because we have no officer positions open, he may have to move back to Houston.
Bright side, he said he would rather quit and take a huge pay cut than move to Houston away from "all this" *While gesturing at me, the apartment, all the green trees, and Bailey*
I respect him more for realizing that the position was making him miserable and asking for a change that will make him less miserable. But I also hate the idea that him going to Houston is such a strong possibility. And yet I'm also happy that he would derail his career, retirement, and current lifestyle(He tends to live a little extravagantly) to stay closer to me by quitting.
I am at a loss as to which emotions are at the forefront because they each are taking turns and part of me wonders if this is him going through some sort of mid-life crisis thing. He did just turn 40....
If none of the sergeants, or people eligible to promote to sergeant, want to move out here to the detachment, then Officer Carr will take the promotion and Chad will drop down and take Carr's officer position at the detachment.
That is the "ideal" scenario. But we all know that nothing in life is really ideal or goes exactly how we want it to go.1 -
So my supervisor discovered last night why so many people cut through the parking lot here all freaking night long. He asked someone who was weirdly creeping through at about 5:30 am. Turns out? There's a Pokémon gym out there. SMH.
@BodyByBex -the times, they are a'changin! You've got a lot going on! Did you tell us what job you took and I just missed it?0 -
Haha, Jen. I get a crowd of regular Pokemon-Goers in the Marine park on my shift. Well, maybe not so much a crowd anymore, just the die-hards. For a while last year it was crazy all over town. It was hard to tell if people were texting their Dial-a-Dope or just running around 'capturing' Pokemon characters. I had to remind a few people that the parking lots they were in were private property and the owners ask that they move on. We don't bother with them on the municipal park property though, even though technically the park is closed after 10 pm. Just mark down descriptions and vehicle plates on our patrol logs.
I don't know Bex... doesn't sound like a midlife crisis to me. Actually Chad sounds like he is very in touch with what truly makes him happy. It isn't all about the money or prestige of a position, it should be about what you enjoy doing and who you enjoy being with. Good for him, I say! I hope the favored scenario works out for both of you! BTW, definitely clean the kitchen, no coworker will ever say no to someone else cleaning the staff kitchen, lol. That's why it's in the state it's in in the first place, NO ONE wants to clean it up. They will be eternally grateful
Hi Karina!
I'm back on shift tonight, but the d*mn schedule isn't in for April yet although I did let the super know which days I needed off for other plans. That is one thing I like about this job. They are very accommodating for any time off you want.1 -
We go through the kitchen and clean every Friday. We throw out moldy or spoiled food and people still complain that we threw it out.0

They are growing antibacterials for the vet patients, couldn't you tell???0 -

We keep our kitchen clean. There's only 10 of us that use it so it's easier to keep up with. And thankfully everyone is pretty good about taking their food with them. If it's gross, it gets tossed. Sorry not sorry.
And I def need a social anxiety weather app0 -

@TK6299 My poor body knows this struggle all too well
And can I just add that my partner and I are free of trainees for today and tomorrow. We are WAY too excited about this.1 -
I must say I like working alone and driving around between building checks listening to Public Radio and the BBC and Deutsche Welle. I've paid my dues in training time with newbies, glad I don't have to right now.0

I tell people that I work nights, for a reason, lol! Daytime is often too peopley for me.2

I miss nights for this reason. We only had one person come to nights to train and she was going to night shift on the other rotation and was just about done. Easy peasy. Dayshift is getting to be too much but no going back to nights. One of our trainees will be headed there next week when she's done with class. We're back down to 1 trainee which is much easier.0 -
Lost my other vet. I'm back up to 118 hours a week. We are looking for another vet in case anyone knows of one.0

Bummer. What happened to the other vet, if I can ask?0

@bethanie0825 Enjoy the time, it will be gone before you know it.

Working shift work flipping schedules was causing some sleep issues. He was having conversations with people while still asleep. He wouldn't remember the conversation 30 minutes later. He always took good care of the pets but the techs had to keep on top of him when it came to giving instructions or talking to clients. He's one of those people who just can't flip schedules. Still a great vet, but he needs to stay on the same schedule or he gets to him.0

@canadjineh - Yep. It's five 14 hour shifts and one 48 hour shift. If we haven't found someone by the time the holidays roll around it will be even more. I'm grabbing naps at work whenever I can. I have an amazing staff. They know their jobs well and make sure I don't have to follow up behind them. I can't tell you what an asset these folks are to me. There is no way I could do this job without them. Truly an amazing collection of techs.1

Darn it. My blocked cat is back and blocked again. Time to change up meds and try again.0

Do Peanut M&Ms count for snacking on nuts?0

Boring night on the MICU. Acuity is way down.0

Nothing like walking in to a total mess. Day crew still in surgery with a case they aren't sure what happened. Surgery didn't go well. Patient is alive but they don't know why a big cysts formed in the abdomen so we can't tell the client a prognosis. Patents were backed up in the waiting room and now I'm trying to clear them out.0

It's unseasonably cold here, even for Missouri, and it's been rainy for a couple of days now. I don't mind the rain so much (umbrellas and rain boots, amiright?), but I really want it to be warmer.0
-
I don't mind the cold or rain. I hate when it's windy. I'm not sure why but I find wind to be depressing.0
-
Long hair+lip gloss+ wind=
Otherwise I'm fairly indifferent, as long as it's not cold.1
