:flowerforyou: we have had a good Sunday with gardening, dog walking, watching football (boo hoo about the Vikings  ) exercise bike riding, some time with friends, and a great lunch of lamb chops with red potatoes and asparagus
:flowerforyou: I think this thread includes all the finalists for the most spoiled dog in North America....they are all contenders for the titile
:flowerforyou: Sandy, you are a better sport than I am......I would have stopped going to Phil and Cheryl's a long time ago....but since you are going, you're smart to plan your eating and exercise so dinner won't be a disaster for you.
:flowerforyou: Jeffrey, I'd like to hear more of the highlights of your cruise
:flowerforyou: it appears that the rainy season is starting sooner this year so we have to be vigilant and get outside whenever we can......this afternoon we both jumped up at the same time and went outside
Jake to cut the grass and me to work on a weed pulling project.:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

I was looking for posts from some people closer to my age and found this thread. Can I join you? I've been on this site for a month and have lost 6 1/2 pounds. I'm fine with slow and steady - some of the younger crowd are a little too gung ho. I know from experience that trying way too hard often results in disappointments and failure. So, I'm looking for an older, wiser support group. Do you think I have come to the right place/0

Thank you Caliecat for the warm welcome. I have one granddaughter in Arkansas - I wish she was as close as Denton. My flowers are currently limited to pictures. I don't have a green thumb. Maybe when I retire I will have time to grow something in my yard with some color.0

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: WELCOME MAMASOTA :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
You have indeed come to the right place, we seniors stick together, we encourage each other, support each other and are there even if things go wrong.I think once you get to know us you will like us. (at least I hope so)
I am from Illinois, near Chicago, second marriage of 19 years (together 32 years), mother of 4, step mother of 2, grandmother of 6. I have a wonderful Old English Sheepdog who turned one in May. She is the apple of our eye and as you will find out most of us are animal lovers.I have lost 15 pounds with the help of these people and have about 2 to go, although plan on resetting my goal to 125 once I reach the first goal. It took me a while to lose that weight, but I am not as disciplined as some of the others. Barbie, Jake, Jeffrey as well as Barb are our role models, they have lost big weight and continue to maintain and encourage each and everyone of us. :drinker: :drinker:
I went for my last shot in my knee today and once I know when Phil is having his surgery I will make an appointment for a second opinion. It hurts when I go for a walk with my husband and Daisy, but it is tolerable, so I am in no hurry. :blushing:
Irene, Happy Belated Birthday, I too forgot to look at the birthday list. I hope you were able to enjoy your day and it was filled with love and happiness.
Marie, our Bears won their game even though I am not the football fan that you are.
I am having my son and my other son's girlfriend for dinner tonight. My son from Arizona passed his trucking test and will be leaving this week to go out on his own. I will really miss him  but I am happy for him.
Have a great day!!

Hi Mamasota!! Welcome to the Golden Sneakers thread.
I am the "Barb" that was previously mentioned. I live in Washington state with "the Three Little Pigs"--the collective name for my three dogs. The Lhasa Apso, whose name is Mai Li, is in my ticker and avatar. I also have a black Shih tzu named Pepper, who is in my profile pics. The grey Shih tzu in my ticker is Dreyfus, my first canine "baby" who died in 2008 from cancer. The third dog in my household is a Yorkshire "Terror" named Bradley. He is the oldest of the three and came to me after his human momma passed away last year. He is the one who inspired the nickname for the three of them, as he has a penchant for stealing human food, and "sharing" it with the other two.
I hope you will enjoy getting to know all of us.
Irene, I also forgot to check September birthdays, so belatedly, "Happy Birthday."
Marie, Sorry your cowboys didn't do well over the weekend,  but please don't hide your beautiful face with a sack!!!:flowerforyou: We would miss you!!
Good Day to all, have to get on with my day.

:flowerforyou: hello to all.....we had so nice weather this afternoon after pouring rain in the morning.....the dogs got to go to the dog park and Jake and I got to do some work in the yard.
:flowerforyou: welcome, Mamasota, this is a great group.....we are friendly and supportive and have realistic expectations and life experience to help us along the way....only kind, supportive, and humorous words are "spoken: on this thread
:flowerforyou: I am the mom of two standard poodles (Brandy and Sasha) frequently called "The Naughties" because of their barking at every leaf and sound and their inclination toward stealing the cat food off the kitchen counter. My other kids are Haifa and Bernie, two loving and self centered cats who love to tease the dogs. The rest of my family is my hubby, Jake, who sometimes posts on this thread........Jake and I started our weight loss journey in January 2009 when we decided that we no longer wanted to known as "Roly and Poly"............so between us we've lost a lot of weight, given away all our old chubby clothes and acquired new wardrobes......we plan meals together and enjoy our new identity as "Slim and Slimmer"
:flowerforyou: Irene, Happy Birthday to you, a day late :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:I hope you were able to enjoy a special treat on your special day.
:flowerforyou: Sandy, it's probably a good thing that you are taking it slow making a decision about the treatment for your knee...gathering a lot of information will serve you well...how is your knee when you are doing things besides walking? What are you serving for dinner when your son and girlfriend come to dinner?
:flowerforyou: Barb, it's time for you to post a new picture of yourself with your new weight and your new clothes
:flowerforyou: Our midday meal today was cod filets baked with onion and the snow peas I bought at the Chinese grocery store and steamed bok choy.....it was delicious and very low calorie.0 -
Hi everyone! If anyone needs some rain I just may be able to send you some!! I was out for dinner tonight with several old (as in former) colleagues. We had a great time and lots of gabbing.
Irene -- Hope you had a happy birthday and that you are feeling ok.
Marie -- Have you got the chair lift yet?
Mamasota -- You are so welcome here! You will hear about my husband, Dave and my three sons, mostly Neil who is both mentally and physically disabled. He has just moved into a group home which seems to be more stressful to me than him! Sadly, I have no grandchildren. :frown: Maybe one day. I seem to be the least focused on my diet, not that I don't want to be but. . . The most miraculous thing is that these wonderful friends haven't given up on me. It makes me think that one day I will do it.
Barbie -- Your lunch sounds wonderful. I have always loved cod.
Sandy -- Hope you had a wonderful dinner. Glad your son is on his way to his new career!
Take care everyone and keep smiling. Gayla0 -
Happy Tuesday Morning!!
Lou is healed enough to play cards today, so we are having our card game.
Barbie, I made this delicious gourmet dinner which for me is a plus since I am not the best cook.  I made ranch steaks, breaded oven shrimp (both from market day at my granddaughters school) and small lobster tails, along with salad, vegetable and wheat rolls. It was the first time I grilled lobster tails on the grill but I was impressed with myself.
When I say small lobster tails I mean small, my son ate most of them since he loves lobster.   I did buy an angel food cake for dessert but no one wanted any dessert, so my husband will have to eat it all.
Later in the evening my son called to say there is a problem with his friend getting the trailer for his truck and things might be delayed a couple of weeks. :explode: My son is now going to go with his friend who has a load to LA but will be dropped off in Arizona so my son can see his girl and his cat who he misses terrible. When his friend gets the trailer thing all straightened out my son will fly back and get his truck and trailer.
I just hope it doesn't take forever since in the meantime my son is making no money. :noway: Please keep this in your prayers that it all works out and he starts making money soon.
Gayla, thanks but no thanks, really don't want any of your rain, we get enough of our own. Did you talk to anyone about the remote control? Is Neil happy at his new home except for that problem?? Does he have a TV in his roo
m? Neil is like our adopted son, so we have to be sure he is fine. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Barbie, I love the new nick names for you and Jake. I bet there are a lot of jealous people who called you those old nicknames.
Marie, I still want to know what happened with the scooter, I had visions of you scooting all over the neighborhood.
The rest of you must be so busy which is good, but we miss you.
Mamasota, I hope you are sticking with us.
Have a good day.

Good morning Sandy, I have not been out in my electric chair yet for the Lift has not got here yet. I got a call in now and they are tryinng to track it down now. They have remodel Walmart and plan to go there When they get the lift install. Everytthing has been moved around so I will have to look for things. It is looking nice tho. We don't have sisewalk here in our part of town and we are not allowed to ride it on the streets. Besides I do not want to get it dirty. Jerry has taken sammy riding on it here in the house and he loves it!0

Hello everyone,
Had a busy and thoughtful weekend, Saturday I went to see my mom, at the time she was critical again, so I thought I would drive down very early and hope to catch her in the morning, instead of the afternoon. There, I was accompanied by my second eldest to the home, we arrived and she was sitting up, drinking from her cup and put a big smile on her face as she recognized us. My eldest and nurses were stunned at her sudden recovery, they attested that they also were very worried mom would pass before noon. So as the day progressed she remained in good form. I was soo happy, my son was able to see her in good shape. First exposure to what he may see more of as his aunts and myself age and become ill. As I type mom still remains in good form, her mind sometimes wonders out for a walk but it is short and she comes back with good memory as it is at the moment.
As for me i'm up six pounds and in no hurry to get back into the routine, I don't know if it is worry, expectation of the "day mom passes" or just that I need a kick in the shins. Tomorrow I see the mind doctor, maybe he can find me and show me who I am and help me set a path to get back the girl I was. Both my sisters are unable to be calm and think straight, so I'm thinking it can be worry, and the expectation.
Any how I cleaned the house top to bottom Sunday and Monday, cut the grass, filled the bird feeders, and gave Buttons three bathes over the two days, she has an itch from outside vegetation that is really bad. I used and shampoo designed for itchies, but I see no improvement. so I booked her in for Thursday to be looked at.
So that is what I'm in the middle of now, but tomorrow is another day, and another middle will present it'self. For now you all take care, I'll be around.

Hello everyone. I finally got back on the internet. I went with Cricket this time. It is working OK for me. I missed being able to go on line whenever I wanted to.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Ralph took me shopping for a birthday present, but neither of us could think of anything I wanted....so we came home empty handed. The older I get the less I need and want. I think that is called contentment, and it feels good. However, in the past month I did get a new bed and a new wall-hugger recliner.
Mariah (4), my great granddaughter spent the night of my birthday with me, then I took her to Sunday School. After that Ralph and I took her to Rosauer's Restaurant for my "birthday lunch." She said it was OK, but next year she would take me to Chucky Cheese's for a party because it was more fun. "They have games AND food there," she said.
My chemo is going good. I had a ct scan last week with very good reports. They said everything is doing what it supposed to. I felt very encouraged. I have two more sessions scheduled. I go every three weeks.
The family is planning a fiftieth wedding anniversary party for us next month. How time flies when you are having fun!!!
God Bless! Take care! Irene0 -

Good morning all.
I am up early today and posting in spite of a Pepper in my lap, and Bradley in his customary spot next to me. Mai Li is snoring in the bedroom. I bought a new doggie bed and apparently it meets with her majesty's approval. Pepper and Bradley tried it out together yesterday afternoon.
Irene, Happy Birthday. I am glad you had a good time with your family. I think as we get older, intangible things become more important than material gifts. Maybe the good report on your medical treatments is the best gift of all.:flowerforyou:
I am trying to complete the removal of all the clothing in my place that is now too big. Yesterday, I went through dresser drawers, and several boxes of clothing that used to be the "smaller sizes" and are now all too big!! That is a problem I never thought I would have!!! The women's shelter in our town is going to benefit from my efforts. I am planning to make a delivery there today or tomorrow.
Have a good day, all.
Barb0 -
:flowerforyou: IRENE, Good to hear the medicals are going well, soon you will look back on this and wonder. God's speed in healing
Hello everyone, good day today , I've been adding raw oats to my soups and cereals, and it has really boosted my energy, upped the fibre too. Very quiet in the house, I'm sure the kitties are up to something! Good time to do some comp. , work, no feet or tails to interrupt.
Hope everyone's day went well, and smiles were abundant around you all.
Take care,
Marilyn0 -
BINGO...... night.
Took Daisy to groomer this morning, ran a couple of errands, leaving soon to pick Bryanna up for dance and then on to bingo.
Haven't been a good girl as far as exercise or counting calories the last few days, but still maintaining my weight. I will get back on track tomorrow after my meeting. ( I hope)
Nothing exciting here today which is a good thing, hope your day is going wonderful.

Hello Ladies,
Today after work I took lesson for "PICKLE BALL" well few years back I played tennis almost everyweek and play in tournaments, like the USA TA, was fun and the ladies were so great. But with working and being so busy tennis was not in my plans. So for the past few months one of my friends wanted me to try Pickle Ball so we did. Is very different from tennis speciallly the rules, and serve, well with more pratice will come naturallly now we need to get the guys to go along with us. I'll keep you updated on the progress. I love it.:happy:
So no gym today and the diet still ok, no problems keeping up the calories count.:ohwell: :ohwell: :ohwell:
Tomorrow is BUNCO night really looking foward to see everyone and talk about our Block Party.:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Have a great evening and have fun.
Gigi0 -
:drinker: Sandy, your gourmet dinner sounds wonderful and healthy....I hope your family appreciated your efforts
:drinker: Marilyn, that is a great story about your mother's recovery for your visit....in my mother's last months, I just took it one day at a time and enjoyed all the moments when she was well and participating in life.......whenever I think the kitties are busy and i get out any paperwork, they hear me and come running and lie down on it.
:drinker: Gigi, I'm glad the birthday celebration went well........you are so right about retirement...it is the greatest....glad you're getting to the gym even with your busy schedule...pickle ball sounds interesting.....tell us more about it.
:drinker: Irene, it's good to hear from you again and that your chemo is going good and getting good results......I know what you mean about birthday presents and not wanting things any more although it sounds like your new bed and recliner might qualify as the gifts of the year.......wow, 50th anniversary, that is amazing, congratulations.
:drinker: Barb, what a great idea to take all your "too big" clothes to the women's shelter....I know they will appreciate your contribution......we have two beautiful dog beds but Sasha seems to like sleeping with us the best......when we go out, she'll take the treat we give her and run to her bed to eat it......the dogs also like the couch----they like to lie at either end and "allow' the people to sit in the middle.
:drinker: today was line dance where we danced two of the dances from the workshop along with many old favorites.....in the afternoon I walked for over an hour with my friend on the Discovery Trail, then went to the dog park, then worked in the yard for awhile......i am going out more often even if the weather isn't perfect and working for 30 minutes at a time instead of waiting to have an entire afternoon.....I want to keep doing that through the fall and winter.
Now it's relaxing TV time (I never get the remote unless I'm home alone  )0 -
:flowerforyou: Marie, I looked on the Scooter Store website and saw power chairs and mobility scooters.......which one do you have?0
-
     HIP HIP HOORAY!!
I WON $500 AT BINGO!!!!
Just in time for my overnight casino trip in a couple of weeks!! How exciting is that????
Marie, I too looked at the website and wondered if you got the power chair or the scooter.
Gigi, you have aroused my curiosity with "Pickle Ball". I have never heard of it, how do you play? Sounds interesting.
Marilyn, when it is too quiet that usually means trouble unless Daisy is sleeping. Good job on the oats, we all need some boosted energy.
Irene, so happy things are improving and will continue with prayers for a speedy recovery.
Barb, does this mean you are buying a whole new wardrobe? How much fun is that????
Barbie, it sounds like you have the most wonderful places to walk and great dog parks. Do you have to worry about burrs in your dog park? We have a really nice big dog park that I don't go to because Daisy gets full of burrs. They also have little ponds and she would jump in them and really get matted, so I take her to a smaller one that is just basically a fenced in area that is not that big. :ohwell:
Gayla, where are you?? Jeffrey, hope the job is good. Beth, keep in touch. Phoebe are you trucking? Who else am I missing?
Love to all of you!!!!!
Sandy0 -
