It's always so good to come here and see new members. Welcome.

katla you always say just the right thing to cheer me up. :flowerforyou:

I had the alarm set for 9:30, my plan was to get up, take a shower, pack my lunch and head off to the hospital. But after I got up I realized that I really need to go back to bed. In order for me to be the kind of wife to help my husband, I need to be at my best health. And I am getting close to being at the worst as far as my exhaustion. The way this is going now, as soon as he comes home from the hospital, I will sleep all of Friday and be really draggy. I don't want to be that. I am his nurse then, he has no monitor to check on him, no nurse looking at his vital signs. I want to be awake and alert Thursday eve and Friday. So I am making an executive decision to go back to bed! I'll call Charlie, see how he is doing and go back to bed. I am not wonder woman.

It amazes me when states declare emergencies when they haven't even happened. Our city is finally getting smart through this really frigid and snowy time. They are having 2 hour delays now and not jsut saying they are having snow days. My poor grand children. They have had so many snow days I don't know how long they will have to go in the summer to make up for them

Just called hubbie, his admitting doctor said he could go home today, so I called his nurse and she tried to argue with me that the if the admtting doctor says to discharge then he is discharged. I tried to explain to her that the electrophysiologost said 5 does of the medicine before she would evaluate him for discharge and that it would be Thursday. Still had to argue with the nurse that she need to check with other doctor. Husband wants out now, doesn't want to wait until I have had my nap. He will have to wait until at least I get this straightened out.

    Hi there!
Stepdaughter's visit over and all went well. She didn't seem that enthused with the prawns and I didn't think they tasted all that good, but they looked very pretty. The goulash was amazing, which is just as well as we are having it again on Saturday with DS and family.!

Michele - like you, I would be afrsid they would dry out if reheated. I would remove the cooked meat from the bone snd make something with it - maybe a chicken and ham pie.

Katla - I am entertaining - what's new! I have Valentine themed napkins and cocktail sticks and a pinkish meal! I have bought the two other couples a travel guide each for their next trip away and will wrap it in pink paper with heart tags that I will write on with gold and silver pens. Fun!:drinker: Champagne to drink :drinker: . For DH I have bought some gorgeous chocolates and a pop up hearts and flowers card. Must remember to write in it tomorrow. We never go out for Valentines day as the restaurants put the price up and we can eat better at home. :blushing:  One year DH cooked me a 3 course meal. It was so great and he poured over recipe books for weeks and wouldn't tell me what he was making!

Patty - your journaling idea sounds excellent. :flowerforyou: DH is doing something similar for his anxiety.

Deedee - 10" . Yikes! Hope your power stays on. Ours is ok at the moment, though it has been blowing a gale out there!

Barbie - glad you get a chance to teach. And glad you are slowly getting back to strength training. For me it has made the most difference in the way I look. And I enjoy it.

NSV for me. DSD got out of her car, took one look at me and said "Where have you gone? Oh my, where have you GONE! You look completely different! I wouldn't have recognised you! You said you had lost weight but I didn't imagine it was that much!"

    Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh! :drinker:

This morning my scales were showing a tiny fraction of a lb down. That makes me under 10 stone for the first time since 1989. Less than 140. BMI 23.13. I will wait a bit to put it on my ticker to be sure and I have a LOT of entertaining this weekend.

Stay safe. Love and forgive yourselves. Look after yourselves. Treat yourselves with something non fattening. Be your own best Valentine.

I finally remembered what I wanted to say last night...To whomever was talking about detached retinas: I had on in December 2012. It was a horrible experience, but sort of turned out good because I got to have a lens implant in that eye that was covered by insurance. Now I wear a contact in the other eye for distance and I wear readers for anything remotely like close work. Be very careful of your vision!!! If you notice ANY change in your vision, call your eye doctor!

If this snow is actually going to get here, I wish it would just do it already! They called off school today but could easily have gone with an early release because there has yet to be a snowflake fall from the sky. I went to my daughter's apartment this morning and fed the cats. Luckily she bought them a "self feeder" sort of thing so I could fill it with enough food for a couple of days if I can't get back before then. They have their little water fountain (freshly filled) and an extra bowl of water, too. They'll just have to cope if they eat all of their food today and fill their litter boxes as a result!

I'm still tired from yesterday. Joyce, I sympathize with you so much. It is so incredibly wearing to sit in a medical facility all day. I went outside and walked the perimeter of the parking lot as soon as they took her back for surgery, but it was so cold and windy that my ears felt like they were freezing off and my jacket doesn't have a hood, so I didn't walk as long as I would have liked. And, inside, it was too small to walk more than about six steps without having to turn around. Oh well, I survived and the girl child will be fine so it's all good in the end.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Hello,

Bracing for the snow/ice that is headed our way. I am so ready for winter to be over. :explode:

Gloria - praying for you, your mom and family. :flowerforyou:

Joyce - you're smart to realize that you need to care for yourself so you're able to care for your DH. Calling to check on him and then going back to bed is a great choice.

Brenda - I saw that you are from Maryland too. What area? I'm just outside of D.C. for work and live about 30 miles south from D.C. I think we may be the only two from Maryland so far.

Patty - congratulations on your soon-to-be newest granddaughter

Katla - my church has a Marriage Ministry which my DH and I are part of. One of the regular functions we do is called "Tightening the Knot" which includes a 'date night' with childcare provided. Couples come to the church and different topics each time are discussed along with fun games, food and music. This month is happens to fall on Valentine's Day so it makes a nice night out without having to deal with the crowds at local restaurants, trying to find a babysitter and makes it affordable for everyone.

Awhile ago I mentioned that a friend had been diagnosed with colon cancer. Found out it is stage 3 and in January she began chemo/radiation for 5 weeks prior to surgery. She is having a very hard time with the treatments and has basically asked everyone to stay away, no phone calls, etc. She is 54, separated, no children, parents, siblings but has a great cousin that is caring for her and undating information. I would like to ask of prayers for her from anyone that feels led to do that. Her name is Sheri.

I am basically holding my own on my eating and weight. My DH had his birthday on Feb. 10 and mine is Feb. 18 so eating out with friends more than usual so that is not helping with the increase in salt.

With this cold weather, it seems I'm always hungry and cold, except for the hot flashes! I try to dress in layers for work as I'm cold in the office but never can tell when those flashes will rear their ugly head. Sitting in a meeting (with mostly men) and feel that fire starting in the legs and working itself upwards, I start to shred my clothes. I'm sure that is a little disconcerting to some of the guys but I almost feel like ripping all of my clothes off! :noway: Can't get out of them fast enough. :blushing:

As of my birthday, I will have 1 year left before I can officially retire! :drinker: Looking forward to that day. Sure hope I can be as active then as you ladies. You are my inspiration.

Welcome to all of the new ladies.

Hi gang! I have a few minutes before I have to go pick up my grandson from preschool so thought I would mark my spot.

Hubby went to his sleep study last night, and although it's not official till the doc says so, he is pretty sure he has apnea. He said they stopped the test and put a mask on him and after that he slept a lot better. Hmmm. Maybe he should listen to his wife sometimes? It sure felt strange to be in the house without him last night. I didn't sleep well either. Molly was just inconsolable, standing on the sofa looking out the window for him to come home. Poor dog.

I picked up the grandson this morning and went to the library for story time. I don't know who enjoys it more, him or me. We played on the computer a while and also checked out a couple of books to take home. Then we went through the car wash and blasted the crud off my van. It looked muddy white instead of dark blue. Then went to lunch where I had a side salad with no dressing (20 calories). Now I am absolutely starving! I'm fantasizing about those Russell Stover Marshmallow Hearts. So at 3:00 I pick him up and at 3:15 pick up the girls and take them all to my house. My son is in for pulmonary tests today.

I'm really looking forward to Friday. It's Valentines day and our tradition is for me to make heart shaped meat loaf and mashed potatoes for hubby. That's all. He doesn't do anything for me because I told him not to. I told him he does so much for me all year, he can take the day off. This year the kids are coming over so my son and his wife can go out by themselves. I offered to do that and he was really happy I did. I think he didn't want to ask. So, I'm going to do some special valentine stuff for them too on Friday. Maybe a decorated cookie or something. I don't know what I'll make for me but it will most likely involve sweet potatoes. Or chili.

I hope the new people can find us at the new thread. I meant to explain it when it got close but missed my opportunity. It is a little confusing when it splits off.

    Have a great afternoon!

Just marking my spot. This week has been very busy, but next week is vacation!! Hopefully I will be able to find some time to chat then.

Joyce- Am thinking of you and your DH. Hope all works out well. I am glad to see that You are taking care of your needs. You are so right. If you get run down, you will not be able to take care of him.

To those of you with snow in NC- My daughter is at Duke and is unhappy with "winter". I have never been to St. Louis, but I think she will get reacquainted with snow next winter as she has taken a position at Washington University. The "bad" side of me wished the snow would have come through here so that we would get a snow day or two. The "good" side realizes that it is becoming too difficult to cover all the material we need to teach if we miss any more school! It looks as though the storm will miss us, but then I have not looked at the weather report yet tonight.I love being snowed in! I just don't go anywhere and enjoy all the time at home, even though we can get around in all but the worst of conditions. I am getting tired of the cold though!! Take care of yourselves and keep safe!

Here I am sitting in my unofficial office, my couch. My husband keeps on saying the couch is a mess, but it's my office and I know what is where. I do have an office but I use it at the end of the day to slow my brain down. I was surprised, as upset as I was this morning I slept until 12:25! So no shower but he has seen me worse than this before. I fixed my nice healthy lunch, left my laptop at home and headed out. I did miss seeing the specialist, was kind of bummed about that but it's OK. She said that his admitting doctor jumped the gun about discharging him. The purpose of the loading dose of 5 doses is to get a good dose in him and then start decreasing the dose. So she will evaluate him tomorrow and hopefully send him on his way. I did apologize to his nurse and she said she was glad I did question it because he really wasn't supposed to go home. He is still dizzy when he gets up and walks. he can walk further, yesterday it was only a couple of rooms, today he could walk a couple of laps around the unit. But 13 laps is a mile and we have been doing 2 miles before the medicine was started. So he was not upset at me. I left my laptop at home because it's an old model, the laptop itself weighs 6 pounds and then the battery weighs more so it is heavy to carry in and out. Both of my daughters use their tablets as their internet so i figured I could to. I can't access the groups from it though so I did miss that.

Heather what a wonderful NSV for you for your daughter to have that kind of reaction. Sounds like a lot of you have some wonderful Valentine plans. It's always so neat when couples still have that spark. Wish we did. My parents did and my oldest daughter and her husband are hopelessly in love.

So tired tonight that I stopped at Wally world next to home and got me a frozen Smart Ones meal:sad: Will put me a nice big salad and fruit with it. So it's me, the cat and the Olympics

Michelle - yes it was me that is using gum to cut down on evening snacks. I thought I had it under control but somewhere along the way I started again. Gum really works for me.

Cardio at the gym tonight. I've noticed that a lot of the new years resolutioners have already stopped coming to the gym.

    I'm really enjoying the Olympics!

Stay safe & warm to everyone who is in the path of that horrible storm.

Hi gals. I don't know what has been wrong with me the last few days but I have missed you. Today was clinical so I got all that walking in plus chair exercises with the residents and I swam for 1/2 hour. Now I can barely keep my eyes open.

Leonard's cousin is off the ventilator and they took both his chest tubes out. He opened his eyes for about 4 seconds today too. They have found a place for him to go to inpatient rehab someplace in Missouri. Leonard is still planning to leave on Friday.. We are going out for Mexican tomorrow; I have my A1C drawn tomorrow so I'm going to enjoy all the carbs in that Mexican meal and have a margarita to boot!

Well I have no chance of catching up here. I'm sorry I haven't been here the last few days to support you all. Take care everyone. Meg from Omaha where it was a little warmer today.

    Good evening, everyone,

Yesterday was very busy; did make it to tai chi and yoga last night. Lunch out, then saw "Monuments Men" which my newspaper panned but I liked. Did ladies exercise this am; then tm for about 40min, varying speeds and elevation. To whoever said they read that you can break up your plank into shorter time segments----you made me very happy!!!! Much more do-able!!!

DH's birthday is on Valentines Day and he took the day off, also tomorrow..........We'll go out to lunch to avoid the dinner crowds. I hit a great sale the other day...........bought boots, a jacket, pants, and several tops........so I told him to skip the roses and chocolates. (Which is fine with him!!!) He'll order his own birthday gift---probably something ham radio related which I could never come up with in a million years.

    Animika........HI! Good to "see" you!

Carolnc........So glad your DD did OK and is healing. Good luck with your end of this storm.

Joyce..........Hang in there; you've been a super advocate for your DH..........please get the rest you need!

arios.........On hot flashes.......I hate to tell you but I got my first at 42 and 20 years later they still show up way too much but I am determined not to go the hormone route.

Michele.........Another idea is to talk to your local garden clubs and/or the workers with the city botanical gardens and locally owned (not big box) gardening stores Good luck!!

Viv...........Given your DH's symptoms, I can't believe the ER did not draw blood work right there and then.

Jenero...........I'm with you---LOVE it when the days get longer!!

Vicki.......Hoping for success with your dad's surgery.

Amanda...........YAY for being able to ride the tube to work again.

Dee Dee.......Hope you don't get 10 inches; we still have dirty snow around from 2 weeks ago. Snow started here today about 4pm and did change to rain in a couple hours.... Had a meeting tonight but it was cancelled.

Margaret........Glad to hear that your friends DD is home!

Laura.........Sounds like your unpacking is about complete. When we moved here from SC, I immediately got pneumonia--- on the drive here---so DH did all the initial stuff; I swear there is stuff I STILL can't find..........15 yrs. later!!! Kudos to you for those early mornings for exercise! Congrats on losing that pound.

Heather..........Your goulash has me drooling! Super NSV compliment---she sounded really impressed and pleased!! Glad yor ex is OK.

I had a few more notes but can't decipher them!!!

    Goodnight
    stay safe, stay warm!!!

Susieq - welcome! I think we're ALL tired of this snow

katla - since I'm just right now thinking about what kind of ground cover I'm going to use, I'll take your suggestion of the starjasmine/jessamine and ask a friend of mine who is a master gardener (she likes when I ask her things) if it'll grow in this area. Ken is highly allergic to bees so I don't think we'd want anything that attracts bees. Thanks for the suggestion. We don't have any special plans or traditions for Valentine's Day. I wish they still had the Daytona 500 on President's weekend. The stores in the mall used to have such good President's Day sales. Oh well......

RLawrence - welcome! Jump right in

Joyce - you are so very wise, realizing that Charlie will need you a lot when he gets home and at least right now he has someone to take care of him so you can take care of yourself. I understand that schools have a certain amount of snow days built into them, then they can only go so far into the summer, then they have to start going to school on Saturdays. I remember that happened once around here. That's wonderful of you to argued on Charlie's behalf (even if he does want to come home) to be sure that he has been monitored correctly

Heather - what a wonderful NSV! This is just unbelievable. In my email I just received a recipe from Emily Bites where it's wonton wrappers with spinach, chicken (!!), hummus, tomatoes, oregano and basil in them and only 176 calories each!

kayak_kutie - prayers for Sheri. Happy early birthday!

yanniejannie - happy birthday to your dh

Vince and I shoveled for about 1/2 a hour, just about 10' from the driveway. That area doesn't get much sun so it takes a long time for any snow to melt. My plan was to do water aerobics Friday but who knows how the roads will be? I just may do something at home. It's funny, when we were talking about it, it really didn't upset me too much not to go to water aerobics. I had no big problem doing something at home, usually I really look forward to the water aerobics. Guess a part of me knows that deep down inside people around here a) don't know how to take care of the roads and b) don't know how to drive in this. So I know that I'm safer at home. We shall see what happens

Tomorrow I go to my doctor for a checkup and I'm hoping to hear good news about my overall health from her perspective. I stopped weighing last year but I know I should have lost more weight since I've never missed a day logging here on MFP.

Also, I'm always looking for new friends who are willing to share their diary like I do. I need it for ideas to keep motivated. If you do, feel free to send me a friend request.

Well, I weighed in today and am down 2 lbs. And I went to the y and did 45 min on
the treadmill and a 30 min Sh'bam class. I wanted to get in some exercise before I
Got snowed in. It started snowing here just as I pulled in the driveway. I'll be
    Shovelling snow tomorrow for exercise.

will be going to bed soon. I feel so un-American tonight! I have the NBC Sochi app on my Ipad and I can keep track all day long on the Olympics. So all the primetime coverage on tonight I have already seen today on my app. So I know all the results. I have so many things on my DVR so I am watching some of those. I'm a bad girl!!!!!

Charlie called tonight. I can tell he is really getting discouraged and I don't blame him. He is used to being the healthy one, a workhorse. He took a walk tonight and walked a full mile but just didn't feel right. He was still a little dizzy but just kept trudging along. I guess if I were there with him I would have insisted that he go back to his room and taken several shorter walks instead of one big walk. But men don't think like that. My main concern for him is that when he goes out and does his Karaoke is that he can get up on the stage and have the confidence to be the entertainer that he loves to be. Right now he doesn't have that confidence.

My brother has a total knee replacement tomorrow. They live in Georgia and because of the big storm anticipated they drove to the city that the hospital is in today. Their oldest son is on his own and it is their younger son that is in the youth detention home due to his extreme destructive behavior. So this little overnight trip was wonderful for them.

My bike looks so loney:love::tongue:  I haven't been on it for several days now. I guess I could hang some clothes on it!!!!  But my cat does look satisfied. She will look even more satisfied when her man comes home.

Thank goodness the tube strike was postponed. I even managed to get a seat on the tube this morning.

The skies in London are washed clean and bright blue - more rain later.

I'm off to an auction to do some heavy bidding for the gallery now, catch you all later.

    Good Morning to All.
It's Thursday, just two more days until the week-end! My test is now scheduled for next Tuesday,, so I am going to keep studying and practicing. Tomorrow night I'm taking my twin granddaughters to the movies, they are 12. Saturday night we are having a suprise party for my DSIL, he turns 30. I'll be cooking all afternoon and then I'll leave the party with my two younger grandkids, take them home and put them to bed. Looking forward to it.

Barbie from NW Washington, instructing line dancing sounds like great fun and a good way to exercise, I’d love to learn.

Michele in NC, It sounds like you do a lot of different DVD’s, that’s good for variety and maybe working different muscles as well. Florida sounds wonderful at this point in the year.

Grandmallie, you sound really well organized, I swear I’m always one step behind.

Susieq, Welcome, I live in Ohio too, I’m Patty and live outside of Cincinnati. I am tired of the snow and cold weather as well.

Heather UK, I haven’t had or made goulash in years, my Mom use to fix it all the time. Memories!

Kayak_kutie, 1 year to retirement sounds wonderful. I know what you mean about feeling cold and hungry all the time, this weather seems to do that to me too. I go home and want to climb under the blanket.

Sylvia, Grandchildren are awesome, I so enjoy the time I spend with mine. I used a sleep machine for years and although it doesn’t look great on you, my sleep was so much better.

Time now to go get my coffee, I've finished my protein shake and other people are ariving to work, so I better get to it.

Happy and Healthy day wishe d for all, Take care, Patty, Cincinnati

Alison  I admire you getting out in all that snow, I just could not live where it snows a lot:noway: , one day of it and I`m done with it. Will you be moving to FL after you and hubby retire?

Susieq  Have you tried any of the walking videos, you could do those inside, or just walk around your house for 20 minutes or so. Sometimes I set the timer and walk around the house and up and down the stairs for 20 to 30 minutes when it`s too icky to go outside:happy: .

Katla  I love that you said doing anything together with your hubby makes you happy:heart: !!! That`s how it was with mine:love: ! He traveled a lot and usually wasn`t home for Valentines Day. We made the most of the days he was in town though!!!

Duke is a beautiful campus, my daughter thought about going there, but ended up going to High Point University. Sandy in ON  I`ve used gum at night too, although I will have to say my jaw gets tired of chewing:laugh: , I switched to having hot tea and it too seems to help with nighttime snacking!

Meg  So good to hear the cousin is doing better:flowerforyou: !!! I love Mexican food, and I love a good margarita:love: !!!! Have fun tonight!

Yanniejannie  Happy birthday to your DH:flowerforyou: !!! I love a good sale!!! I`ve got my eye on another pair of cowboy boots:love: , It`s taking a lot of willpower on my part waiting for them to go on sale! Dirty snow is rather ugly isn`t it!

Michele  You got the 10 inches, I have about 7 ½ in the yard here, more than 2 inches is too many for me:laugh: !

Brenda  Congrats on 2 pounds gone:bigsmile: !!!

Amanda  Good news for you this morning:bigsmile: !!!

Patty  Hope you have a wonderful time with your granddaughers!!! My oldest granddaughter will be 13 in March, the years have flown by!

Not 10 inches of snow here:happy: , 7 ½ in my yard and they are saying we should get another 1 to 1 ½ inches today. It really is beautiful, but I`m ready for it to be gone!!! I will go out and shovel a path for Noel to walk around in soon. She loved it yesterday, being outside romping in it, will be interesting to see what she thinks this morning. I think I will start on organizing my closet today, seems like a good thing to do on a snowy day.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday!!! Drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: and log your food!!!

    Hugs,
DeeDee in beautiful snow covered NC

Good morning! I'm really looking forward to seeing the temp ABOVE freezing today for the first time in weeks. But the yard will be a muddy mess, I'm sure.

The kids were so much fun last night! But they wear me out. They stayed till about 7. My son came to get them and he stayed for supper too, so it was a nice evening. He told me about the pulmonary tests he had done, and they sounded awful. They had to compare his lung function to tests that were done last year to gauge how fast he is deteriorating. Next week he goes in to get the transfusion port thingie installed in his chest and then he can start getting the meds that may help him.

DeeDee, I don't know how romantic it will be this year, sharing it with three kids who may not appreciate the effort. My son told me they don't like meat loaf, but I'm making it anyway because it's our tradition. I'll make something else for them. Good luck with the snow.

Meg, glad to see you. I hope things settle down for you sometime soon. Great that you got to swim.

Alison, my hubby doesn't want to retire ever. He likes working and is worried he won't have anything to do if he retires. He has no hobbies, so he would be on the sofa full time watching those screaming political pundit programs. That would drive me nuts.

Patty, I shared a hotel room once with a friend who used a CPAP machine, and it was like sleeping next to Darth Vader. The noise kept me awake, but I'm sure I could get used to it. If it helps him sleep it will be worth it.

Joyce, I hope your hubby gets home soon and can resume his career in karaoke. Sounds like fun.

Bye everybody. Be careful in the snow, ice and rain.

    Good Morning,

    Welcome newcomers:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Patty Cincinnati congratulations on not having to wear CPPAP anymore. Good luck on upcoming test.

Deedee:drinker: More of a sip today.

Viv hope they figured out what was wrong.

Carol your allusion to Monica LOL.

Katla sound like a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Sylvia and Joyce I hope your DHs are recovering well.

Carol I am sorry you went through a detached retina. That is why I shared my experience, so it hopefully does not happen to others. If you see massive floaters get to you eye Dr. immediately don’t waste time by going to your regular doctor. I wish your children speedy recoveries.

Deb A. my niece went to Wash U law school and liked it. It does snow in St. Louis, but it usually does not last. This is an exceptional winter there too. What I remember is you go out in the morning needing a coat in Feb and March and by the afternoon you need short sleeves.

I had to skip over anyone talking about food today. My stomach is struggling today. Sipping on ginger tea.

Watched the dog show on Sunday I don't know how they can pick a winner for all those magnificent dogs. What a treat to see such magnificent animals. Went to a good workshop yesterday on nurture your heart discipline. The premise is to have your students reset themselves after they make a mistake. If it is a major mistake your process and repair what needs to be protected or restored. It was a good reminder to step back and let others have a chance to fix the problem. They also talked about shining the spotlight on what is going right with your life. We are programed to dwell on the negative and need to train ourselves to go to the positive.

I loved it when an American gave the Russian a ski to finish his race. I was proud of the
Russia for finishing even if he did come in last.

Something else to worry about. We got a call from the ENT's office about the sleep study. They wouldn't tell him results over the phone but said they need to see him on Wednesday and discuss ordering the machine. Then five minutes later we got a call from hubby's GP saying that the tests showed something else, besides apnea, and they want to see him on Monday morning. I sure hope it's not AFIB or something.

I'll have to see how many calories I will get from chewing my fingernails over the weekend till we find out what's going on.

I was able to fight off the craving for a marshmallow heart yesterday, but this stress may push me right into the arms of Russell Stover.
