Yes but they don't all deliver the same end hit.
Ok I cannot post the study but am sure that I read that the differences are so small as to make no noticeable difference when counting calories for weight loss.0 -

Fats 98%
Animal based proteins 90 - 95%
Some carbs (probably twinkles) less than 80%
Yeah not much difference!!!!0 -
It matters where your calories come from for a variety of reasons.
How can it if they are all exactly the same?
Because there are properties to foods that exist outside of energy value.0 -

Differences in diet induced thermogensis are represented on the calories-out side of the equation. Isocaloric foods across different macronutrients would have identical calories but you would expend a different amount of calories digesting them.
this is like word porn.sidesteel!

No I was questioning the fact a comment was made that it doesn't matter where you get your calories from - be it a Twinkie or something else.
Before disputing this I wanted to clarify the statement meant the energy was used by the body in the same way.
I think you need to be more specific on context for that question or statement to be answered correctly.
For the most part your body, like honey badger, don't care.
It works based on a sufficient unit of measurement per mass. In this case grams per kilogram. Twinkie diet will allow you to lose weight, provided you hit a consistent calorie deficit, and the body will efficiently use the calories provided by a diet consisting of just Twinkies.
Whether it's particularly healthful to subsist on Twinkies alone is debatable. How much protein is in a Twinkie? that'd be the only macro of concern, I think. Micros would be a bigger concern, but the SAD (or should we call it the standard Western diet?) - even the new & improved healthier SAD! - is deficient in a lot of micros anyway...
Ultimately a variation in diet is only necessary for three things... interest in food, a good variety of micronutrients, and manipulating your intake of macronutrients. Food energy is a separate entity.
When I'm shooting for a calorie surplus, I like to eat a handful of jellybeans for my excess carbs. True story.0 -
Sustainment and diet adherence are the reason for moderation.
Is diet adherence required for losing weight?
absolutely, because if you can't adhere to a calorie deficit, you won't lose weight.0 -
