Sustainment and diet adherence are the reason for moderation.

Is diet adherence required for losing weight?

absolutely, because if you can't adhere to a calorie deficit, you won't lose weight.

So, moderation is important for diet adherence. And diet adherence is required for weight loss.

    We're almost there.

    Are all foods the same?

All food are not created equal and that's the one thing we all need to understand for a healthy and sustainable diet.

A guy lost a ton of weight on a diet based off twinkies... a calorie is just that. A calorie. Nutrients however, are a different story.

Woah! Wish someone had brought that up earlier. Could you do it only eating McDonalds?

    Yep.

Then what are macros? If all food is identical, any food will result in the same macros. Right? All have the same number of carbs, fat, etc.

Wow. That slowed the clever responses down. Simple question. Is all food the same or not? It's been answered many times in this thread. I think maybe everyone sees where I'm going with this.

(edit) I'ma go do... things now. I'll check back later. Thought this would go a lot faster. Sure were plenty of responses before I asked that question. lol We're almost there folks. Let's get a few replies. Just need to establish if f=f.

I was at the grocery store. Sorry about that.

I didn't say all food is identical - it's not.
But here's the thing... Food is food.
I know, right? That's just krazy!!!

    But here's the thing...

I've had my protein for the day.
Let's say I had eaten 4 servings of veges already, instead of the donuts.
So I had my macro of protein, micros from veges.
And I would need calories, carbs & fat...
    How 'bout a cupcake?
Because it fits! It completes the puzzle so why say a cupcake is "bad" (unless its a banana cupcake... I can't stand bananas)

    It's food. All of it.

As far as calorie content goes, any food with 100 calories has the same calories as another food with 100 calories.
A calorie IS a calorie, you see :).

Yeah. So I said. Over and over. I didn't ask "as far as calorie content goes". I asked if all food is the same.
