I think it's weird that you would ask a question like this on a fitness site. When I read the title I thought 'empath' must be some sort of new diet or workout, since we're on a fitness site. Boy was I wrong.

I can see maybe looking for some one your own age or someone with kids vs without, because those people will understand your particular set of issues (i.e., time constraints when you have kids, or not recovering from an injury as quickly at 40 as you did at 22) but someone who is similarly empathetic? Why does it matter if a person is empathetic or not?" Is there a certain type of motivation that empaths provide that others won't? What is it you need from a fellow empath that you wouldn't get if you had just come here and said "Hi, I'm <INSERT NAME HERE> and I'm looking for support/motivation/friends"?

I swear I'm not being snarky. I'm really just asking.

No really. The tick in the box next to empathy is the difference between me and a sociopath.

    Well that and people skills.

Don't get involved in this topic if you have no interest in it, its that simple!!! Sensitive people are comprised of 15-20% of the world population, and it is found by science that their nervous system is wired differently than other people. Also empaths do experience weight problems, because they are very sensitive to others and energies around them, and they internalize everything. They have to learn certain modalities to help with weight and also a burnout problem etc.... I am a counselor by profession, and yes I am an empath also!!!
    Thanks,
    Gigi

Links to about.com and wikipedia are not references. Any links to ACTUAL studies performed by medical/educational institutions and published by a reputable source and not "psychology today"?

Protip: If you couldn't use it in an essay at college without your professor going red in the face and bashing your skull in with a library catalogue, it's not a real study.
