This should be a sticky post. I agree 100% with you.

"Tons of crap is being eaten on the back of "calories in vs calories out is all that matters".

    Dh
I'm more sad that most of the diaries I see feature like <%1 fresh fruits of veggies; everything is packaged and processed. That's what sad to me.

I rarely read anybody's diary, but on the board I've been absolutely floored by the amount of people here who proclaim that they almost never eat a vegetable, some quite proudly.

It's incredible how few people I've run into here who are interested in consuming a diet that not only gets them to their weight/body goals, but also well nourishes that very body. Tons of crap is being eaten on the back of "calories in vs calories out is all that matters".

Cat food. Srsly. Look it up.
I'd eat cat food before I ate Sperm.. And it's in the database. Scary huh?
I couldn't believe that sperm (human male) was in the database so I had to see for myself. It is. I'm surprised it has zero protein though...

Scary that they thought they had to specify that it was human :noway:

I think someone has been counting their cat's calories :)

There are a lot of people who care so much about their pets' wellbeing

I ate catfood once when I was little though, I can't remember what it tasted like but I'm still alive ;)

I hope you've learned an important lesson about trying to have fun/displaying a sense of humor around here OP.

OP should work on refining their "sense of humor" if that was the intention.

so OP should adjust his sense of humor based on the fact that you don't get it???? sounds reasonable….

Sounds to me like someone is hangry. I prescribe real food. Perhaps something without cauliflower.

On topic: Vegetables masquerading as noodles make me sad.

Ok I'll give ya that one - BUT as I am allergic to gluten, spaghetti squash is a pretty nice alternative to glutenous pasta or really expensive gluten-free stuff.

I have noticed that most processed gluten free stuff is super expensive, which is why I don't buy most of it. However, I get my gluten-free pasta in the bulk bins of my local store and it's only about $0.04 per pound more expensive than the regular kind. :drinker:

This. And I love my local store for being celiac friendly BEFORE it was a fad to not eat wheat. I use the no bread entries and I've gotten used to not eating it.

Now the semen thing...didn't I hear some potential scandal about a college team using that as a performance enhancer a year or two ago? I will admit that I may be thinking of something else, but there were some pretty lewd jokes going on at work about it.

Somebody choosing to have a doughnut with no icing is "sad"?

Having baked goods made with artificial sweeteners is "extreme"?

I swear, never in my life have I seen such an intense collection of food addicts than here at MFP.

Choosing to have a plain or unfrosted donut is fine. Feeling like you have to scrape 100 calories of frosting off is sad.

And as someone who LOVES to bake, and also chooses to believe that real food tastes better than low-cal crap (read butter and sugar), I find having to chose artificial sweeteners and margarine because of calories is sad, as well.

All that may make me a foodie or a food snob, but it doesn't make me a food addict. Trust me, I go off in those particular threads. Nobody in my circle would ever mention food as an addictive substance to me.
  • You mean if it's erroneously logged into MFP at reduced calories it doesn't translate to mass off my axx?
Oh there goes all the fun......

Cat food ?? - yes, hard to come up with an explanation for that one.
But I suppose the cat could be on a diet, have heard of dogs on diets before.

Oddly enough, I've had a friend, a guy, who ate tin cat food sandwiches and said it really wasn't much different than pâté, and he preferred the tinned cat food. His explanation, he'd grown up poor and it had been a cheap option that he'd gotten a taste for, and said that in the UK the food had to be up to human consumption standards. I never quite believed that last bit.

    Sperm, 1 load, human male
    20 cals

seriously I looked it up and logged it after we did it....... not one of my friends said a word about it geuss they dont look in my diary very often!!!!!!!!

    LMAO

I don't know why this is under the saddest user submitted food entry, I think the person who made this is soon going to be the most popular MFP user. At least among males.

I don't know. I don't remember sad entries. But, as a parent sometimes you log weird stuff when eating left overs or sharing a donut. I get burgers without mayo. I like mustard, ketchup, pickles, tomatoes.

I hate mayo. The thought of putting mayo on a burger makes me want to vom!

And I don't like cheese either. Which seems to be like a sin to most people! lol

i'm not sure if its sad that people dont bother to educate themselves, or ridiculous what people try to kid themselves they've eaten, but i came across an entry for 'one whole meal for my birthday' at a chain restaurant - think TGI Fridays type stuff - that was down for 1000 cals... most of the mains are over 1000 cals alone, so who was that person who created that trying to kid if they had 3 courses!

I'm a bit of a whole-food snob nowadays (can't help it, comes with cutting a lot of processed food from my diet!) and I always wonder at how often I type in a food - carrot, beet, onion - into the database and so often the first 10/20 or so listings are for processed foods with the particular item added.

OK, maybe not all the time, and perhaps the whole food is the first few items. But still, I'll type in red onion and I still get "blablabla with red onion chutney" and a whole ton of other processed foods there. It's just weird to me.

The saddest thing I've seen is people kidding themselves on the calories. I saw one entry (for banana I think) which suggested one banana had 25g of carb, 1g of protein 0g of fat yet only 30 calories! If you don't know the calories but you know the carbs, protein and fat it's easy enough to come up with a reasonably accurate calculation.

That said I've never looked up cat food, semen or human flesh!
  • I didnt know These Calories were way off..Now..Im really Worried...I want to do this Right..This is suppose to help not stress :(

One of my female MFP friends noted that semen is in the database. I didn't ask her why she looked it up.

Oh my goodness, but hey it could be a new accusation for people to throw out there when weight loss stalls or is nonexistent. "Have you considered your intake of semen?"

Now I need to go look through the database to see what revolting items people have listed...

(I just typed in hair, but alas it was all Angel Hair pasta and Hair and nail supplements.)

(Similarly, 'Dog Food' just brings up hot dogs and corn dogs...)

OH! 'Brains' brings up *Brains - Brains (1.0 servings of 1/2 cup broiled brains is 1720 calories, 65 carbs 65 fats 65 protein, 30 sodium)

  • So semen is in the food database but sex isnt in the exercise database??? Why?
