    But also: I am a big fan of Fresca. Totally different taste, but it's zero calories and meant to be that way, not just cutting corners to make it a zero calorie form of a high-calorie beverage.

    I know tone doesn't come across well on the Internet, so please allow me to try to convey some directly in words: I am not being sarcastic and am totally in earnest with this question.

    How is Fresca any different just because there's no "high-calorie beverage" version of it? It doesn't make it in any chemical way materially different from the diet versions of "regular" sodas.
