My boss and I went to lunch and we decided to split a tempura spicy tuna roll. We’ve eaten there before and knew that we both love it and both think it’s too much food so we did the sensible thing.

I do struggle a bit with feeling cheap when only ordering one meal 😔 it is on the regular full-price menu and not the lunchtime special so there’s that... Anyone else feel this way?

ETA: I’m getting comfortable with requesting a doggy bag, but for this dish it’s really best freshly made!

That makes me feel like I broke the code! Better still if I'm with a willing accomplice because then there's no "doggy bag" request moment. Serving sizes in some places are beyond reasonable.

Revel in your logic and leave a super generous tip to the wait staff, if you're able and not averse to it.

They create the menu, we order from it. Once ordered, it's ours, to eat and enjoy in any legal manner we wish, IMO.

Some restaurants have in the past or do have plate charges (for people who split), minimum order amounts, and that sort of thing. If they don't want people splitting, they can do that. (Not sure it's going to end well for them, but they can . . . . ).

@MaltedTea is right, IMO, about the tipping. There are really two "interest groups" we affect when we split an order: The restaurant owner/management, and the servers/staff. The owner/managers get their shot when they establish the menu, pricing, other policies. The servers/staff have a two-top with two people to wait on (same work, or nearly), but more like half the tab size for that table, when we do tips as a percent of tab. I'd tip extra if financially able, personally . . . but I believe in doing that in a lot of circumstances that affect the servers/staff, like lingering over coffee/drinks when the table could realistically turn over and give them another whole tab, asking for special substitutes or the like, etc.

Today' NSV... It was really warm, so I struggled to eat enough calories. I reviewed my diary and decided to mash up an avocado, add some olive oil and seasoning and serve it with brioche.

1) Eating enough has never been a problem. I've always wanted to eat too much.
2) I wouldn't previously have had an avocado in the house for it to even be an option!
3) I weighed the avocado rather than taking a random average weight entry, so got the calories right.
4) I ate my allowance, when I could have stopped earlier. However, I made the call that with a low calorie allowance, the right thing to do was to plug the gap.
5) Before deciding what to do, I reviewed my fruit/veg intake and the macros.

Which is a really long way of saying that I actually thought about my food choices and made some educated choices, as opposed to wailing I was too hot, ordering take out and mindlessly stuffing my face with that. I can see myself changing and I really like the person I'm becoming.

Actually, maybe that's the real NSV. I am starting to feel increasingly content and proud of myself.

We don’t really do doggy bags in Sweden either, so I definitely had a hurdle when I started doing this in March this year. I felt super awkward and the first person I asked apparently was only there to do the flowers (?!) and then I lost nerve approaching a second employee so my friend had to step in and help me. I think I posted about it as a NSV when it happened.

COVID has actually been helpful in this regard. As more and more places have started to offer take away as their business model I know they will have suitable containers available which makes me less hesitant to ask. Thinking it over just now, I wouldn’t mind if the Resturant wanted to add a small charge for a second plate, or indeed for a takeout container (assuming we’re talking $1-2), but in that case I’d like to see it advertised on the menu which would also increase diner awareness of these options which might be good!

Doggy bags are the best. Plus, I feel like it would help business because people might order more knowing that they can take it home if they can't finish it.

My NSV is that I've gotten back into walking regularly again and have really been enjoying it. I listen to podcasts while I walk.

For places that don’t do doggy bags (or even places that do) I recommend just taking your own container with you when possible. Much better for the environment and no risk of leaking if you take a good quality one that seals properly.

Obviously you do not do this at buffets :-)

On a whim, I decided to try on a bra that I couldn't really wear before because it was just too tight. The straps dug painfully into the top of my shoulders, even with them extended, and my, uh, girls kinda popped out over the top of my bra. So, it was shoved into a drawer with the hopes of "someday".

Well, today is that someday! I tried it on and it fits so comfortably now! No digging into the shoulders, no popping outs going on, it's nice!

So, that's my current NSV!

Since I cheated a few posts back there and chit-chatted about something that was not a personal NSV, I owe the thread one, even though kind of a questionable-impact one 😉. This is a terrible blurry photo, because I couldn't figure out how to do it without using the front camera (no good mirrors here). But yesterday I tried on a dress my mom made for me when I was around age 20 (+/- 2, don't recall). That was in the 1970s, when I was a hippie girl. 😆

It's pulling a little over the hips, and for sure tight in the shoulders/underarms (found some lats'n'stuff since then 😉), but I can put it on, and zip it, 40+ years later, at age 64. I'm oddly pleased. Who would've dreamed, during all those years of obesity in between? Not me.

I'm a "jeans and t-shirt" kind of person, but that dress is awesome and looks just perfect on you!

Someone offered me free ice cream today and I said "no, thanks, I'm good!" without thinking about it for even a second with no regrets. That was kinda cool. I was more interested in the rainbow carrots I'd just bought.

On a week where I have been on a giant family vacation and have been over calories by about 1500 calories a day because people keep making me gluten free bread and desserts to be nice and totally freaking out about gaining weight I went shopping at the outlet stores—which I’ve never felt thin enough to buy anything at and had an AMAZING experience. I bought 2 pairs of size 4–size 4 jeans and a size 2–size 2 skirt!!! I bought a lot more small shirts and some more skirts but holy cow, I have never been a size 2 or 4! Here are the clothes I bought.



I’m trying to accept the fact that I will have to relose some weight because of all the extra eating—man it’s been too much but how can you say no to your special needs nephew who keeps making you special food. But it’s only 1 more day and then back on the bandwagon. It’s such a head game.

Had an appointment with my doctor today. After 10 years of being a diabetic, I am off two medications! Long way to go but definitely makes me super happy!

I have been logging consistently all summer. I am continuing to walk at least an hour a day. I am much less depressed. Sometimes I am happy when doing nothing, and this is new. I am back on track with my one hour homework out goal, that is essential to my happiness. ♡☆♡

When I’m glancing down at my arm while wearing a sleeveless shirt it’s not just a blob. There is the shoulder, slight indentation, slight bulge, slight indentation and then elbow. This is just sitting normally, like right now when I’m typing this on my phone. I find it kind of exciting 😃

That wardrobe looks right up my alley! Pretty!! I would love to do a capsule wardrobe at some point... had it close, then weight went up, and now I am down. Once I settle into a size I am excited to do some shopping!

After a 60 minute workout on the Gazelle, I took my puppers on a walk on the beach, which turned into a 3 mile run.

I went to the beach today instead of going for my morning walk, and ended up going for a walk anyway because I wanted to explore the village near the beach. It was very nice!

I plan to reward myself by buying fabric and making myself some historically-inspired dresses. There's some yummy summer dress potential in an 18th century robe anglais, and I love the '50s silhouette, and I'm pretty sure I'll have pinup curves when I'm done.

I have similar plans!! I plan to buy quality neutral colored linen (and maybe a rich plum color as well) and make a few high waisted skirts reminiscent of the Victorian era walking skirt. I’ve seen a few modern takes that are just lovely, the pleating in the waistbands are gorgeous!

It's a little one but I went for a walk with my son and Mum last night and didn't get winded or struggle with back pain - it's only been a little over a month since I started all this and this was really exciting.

Started my journey July 4th. I've officially lost 1 inch/ 2.54cm from my hips. My weight has been fluctuating like a normal human body but this last week it's steadily coming down ounce by ounce 😁 My hips are my number 1 problem area so an inch off is good news.😆 Now onto the next inch. My goal is only to lose additional 3.5-4 inches and I'm happy.
I also noticed I don't even need to walk as much as I did last time to lose weight. I was walking 14,000-15,000 steps daily plus counting calories when I lost weight 2 years ago. It was more of a brisk walk and nothing intense. Most of the walking was done while at work and during lunch break. This is time around working from home I've been jogging in place in my living room for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening while watching tv or playing games on my phone. On average I'm walking 10500-11,000 steps a day and I'm eating between 1300-1500 calories a day. I'm also short 5'2"/157cm. So moral of the story and a lesson I just learned, the quality of your steps is just as important, as long as you are in a continuous caloric deficit you'll lose weight and you don't need to do anything crazy. 😊
