I do not believe - like you do - that a hot boiled potatoes will magically halve in calorific value when it cools down - only special snowflakes believe that one!

Please don't tell lies about me.

    Thanks.

I'm going to go workout. Then I'm going to have a KFC double down. Thanks to this thread, I'm also going to have potato wedges, right up to my cal limit. Then I'm going to pig out on salad and grilled chicken for the rest of the day.

    Good plan! Thanks!

For you calorie counters, please be advised that if you do go over on your calories, it's not the number of calories you should be concerned about. It's what's in those calories you should pay attention to. As long as you are eating right, and according to your health goal, you will be fine even if you go over on calories. Lean meats, protein snacks, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains go a very long way. If you are eating these things daily, eliminating the sugars, laying off on the fried foods, leaving the alcohol alone, and staying away from the bad fats, you are going to be fine. It's not all about the calories, ladies and gents. It's what's in those calories that matters.

Nope not lies you actually suggested that resistant starches were only half the calories so the statement of calories eaten was correct (it was in the calories in vs calories out thread from several days back)-

Lying seems to be your expert area (well mis-quoting and twisting facts).

Tennisdude's favorite new theory is that you can go over maintenance on calories all the time and not gain weight.

The reasoning in the past has been this is because of resistance starches, where all of the calories eaten don't actually get digested and absorbed.

It's kind of amusing. He seems to enjoy learning some new "theory" every now and then and touting it for a couple of weeks on the forum like it's some incredible revelation before forgetting about it and moving on.

I'm not advocating eating more calories to loss weight. I am merely pointing out the OP may be talking about calories EATEN as opposed to calories DIGESTED, as the statement of Eat less calories is technically incorrect - although it is something that is best observed.

And yes I was talking about resistant starches, although I do not believe - like you do - that a hot boiled potatoes will magically halve in calorific value when it cools down - only special snowflakes believe that one!

    You serious, Clark?

I'm lost on how you turn "resistant starches were only half the calories" (which is not quite true, and not something I ever said) into "hot boiled potatoes will magically halve in calorific value when it cools down."

So, as long as I eat the bad calories first, I'm ok as long as I go over with the good calories?

    IN!

My first 2000 calories will only be carbs and fats.

My other 4000 calories will only be protein. So I should be fine and totally lose lots of weight. Thanks guy!!!

when i'm depressed, or having a bad day in general, i log on to MFP and seek out precisely these types of threads. never fails to cheer me up. i love the heady mix of advice good and bad, trolling, OP shaming or defending, gifs, preaching, arguments and the occasional 'just here to giggle' comments. thank you MFP forums. best free therapy ever.

Then why did I get fat while depriving myself of sugars and processed foods and eating only chicken breast, fish, fruits, nuts, veggies, etc? Yes, the correct balance of carbs, fats, and proteins is important for a healthy body, but you can eat a caloric deficit of pure table sugar and still lose weight. You can eat a caloric surplus in only "healthy" foods and you will still gain weight.
So, You are very wrong, sir. It is the proper amount of calories that determines weight gain, loss, or maintenance and the proper balance of macros to ensure optimal organ function and body composition and health. BOTH are important, but you CANNOT eat only "healthy" foods in a caloric surplus and expect to lose or maintain weight. Impossible even if you only eat spinach.
