    How emotional weight loss is.
Getting emotional reading all of these great responses.

Great job, everyone! Keep it up!

I think for me it's how much my husband trying to be supportive sounds like nagging to me when I'm tired (of course that could be him actually being bad at phrasing things).
^^^ this. It probably doesn't help AT ALL that he has gained back all 90 of the pounds that he lost and has no intention of losing them again.
I count calories, log my food, walk the dog and do a workout video and if I complain that I am tired or don't want to, his "You can do it, babe!" makes me want to punch him in the throat. I'm sure the fact that he lays on the couch while I work out doesn't help either.

Have to remember that I am doing this for me--and not to bite the heads off my loved ones when I am tired and sore, lol.

I'm only starting my weight loss journey, but so far it is that vegetables will make you gassy and saying no to the office donuts really isn't that hard.

That a lot of people will ask how you are, kinda insinuating that you must be sick. It seems easier for them to understand weight loss from sickness rather than pure determination.

Thank you so much for this post...it just made me go from super frustrated to determined :)
Probably a couple of repeats but here's what I've learned:
    - My body has changed so much more than I think it has...in my mind, "just 15 pounds", but nothing fits me, I can hardly recognize my now-shaped arms, and people are even starting the "Don't lose any more weight" conversations
-It's scary how many delicious things are not worth the calories. Seriously, 500 calories for a cup of hot chocolate???
    - I actually love weight training, and it doesn't make women bulky at all :)
    - I'm going to have to live with this lifestyle always...it's not "over" when I get to goal weight
    - Body type does matter in weight - some of us just weigh a little more (but this doesn't mean that 20 pounds overweight is fine!)
    - Find your best time to work out, it's different for everyone. I'm a morning-cardio person, after 6pm I am worthless and my work out just sucks.

    Still learning:
    - Accept that there are going to be temptations pretty much every day and people can't seem to stop offering me candy, so you just have to look the other way.
    - Weight isn't everything. I shouldn't let the weight define my mood for the day/week.
    - I shouldn't compare myself to others. My body is different and the fact that people with my stats look amazing at 130 pounds doesn't mean that I should go down to 130 too. My ideal weight is actually just 5 pounds below what is considered overweight, and that is FINE.

That it was actually pretty easy when I didn't over complicate the process.

I agree with you here. I think this is why I kept quitting, that and the scale. This time I'm just taking it one day at a time. New day = walking, biking, exercise, video... something!

-- It takes your brain way longer to catch up with your body (i.e., you still feel you are/look heavier than you really are).

This. I go into the dressing room still with a size 12 out of habit and end up buying a 4 or 6. Salespeople must think I'm nuts.

I actually learned that I can lose inches with out losing any weight. I never read up on that and know I am very knowledgeable thanks to MFP.

I'm researching that now. I'm not finding good information about that. Where did you look?

    1. Not all calories are equal.

    2. Just because you've been doing it right for a year and have lost a hundred pounds doesn't mean you've "changed your lifestyle". The old ways can still come out and take over in a heartbeat
  • You all are scaring me! lol!

That sometimes your arm pits are overachievers and get lean waaaaaay faster then the hinny and hips. So what I'm saying is, I'm rocking some sexy arm pits.

Don't get too attached to any articles of clothing because eventually they will be too big and you'll have to donate them. (On the positive side, it's a lot of fun to buy smaller sizes!!)

    4. Your bowel movements are going to go nuts when you try to replace your "unhealthy" diet with a bunch of raw veggies and other distress causing items.

    5. Increased water intake makes you pee. A lot.

    This.

    I agree!

Sometimes it's a pain. I used to be able to bike for 2 hours before my butt started to get saddle sore. Now it starts to ache after half an hour. I need to buy padded biking tights, which is yet one more piece of clothing I need to shell out $$$$ for.

TMI but I went from having a firm belly to a squishy belly! It feels like a waterbed but I know that means it is on its way out.

That if you do a lot of exercise, you can eat LOADS of calories, and still be on a deficit!

I'm just trying to maintain now but I'm up to 2500 calories today and STILL on a 500 calorie deficit!
  • inspiring stuff people. i am going to come back to this when i am having a down day.

1.The scale will break your heart 335786313689 times. All you can do is keep going.
    2. You will have to learn to forgive yourself over and over again because you will mess up more times than you will think possible

    Soooo ridiculously true

    1. I can ride in an airplane and find my seat roomy and comfortable.
    2. Sitting on hard surfaces hurts, so does leaning back against hard surfaces, now that I have less padding on my butt and shoulder blades.
    3. Goodwill has become my favorite place to shop since I've needed to place my wardrobe so many times. I have sticker shock when I go to a regular clothing store.
    4. Improved nutrition in my diet has turned my soft, brittle nails into strong nails.
    5. My feet have shrunk. There are smaller and not as wide.
    6. Watching tv seems a whole lot less important than it used to.
    7. I do not have a large frame the way I thought I did.
    8. I have excellent people in my life. Everyone has been friendly and supportive.

That just because you ate less calories for x amount of years to get to your goal doesn't mean you're now that skinny girl you grew up with who can eat 5,000 calories per day and not gain a single ounce!

    ^^this, haha bloody truth!
