I say that too! If there aren't enough beds at a sleepover, somebody gets the pallet!

Edit: I'm replying to the "pallet" part. :)

Moved to Southern Indiana and learned a "pallet" referred to a makeshift bed on the floor.

I'm from Ireland. Here we'd typically say:
    Fizzy drink
    Sandwich bap
Fireflies (but we don't have those here)

    Northwest of Chicago,

I say soda but everyone else says pop, subs(if from subway, if not it's just a sandwich), and both fireflies and lightening bugs. s:

i find it weird i've lived here basically my whole life, and yet i say things differently than others who have also lived here their whole lives.

Soda, subs and lightning bugs, but sometimes firefly. Southern NJ here.
  • louisiana.

we say coke no matter what brand.. then you specify the actual drink.
only time you gonna say anything about a sub would be at subway.. we like po boys.
pretty sure we dont really talk about fireflies.. we have mosquitos and thats all you talk about. lol

someone mentioned pill bug.. we call those roly polys or doo doo bugs here.
and a pallet is a place to lay down but no one i know says that.. it was more of an older generation thing. as well as ice box for the fridge.

Here in AZ, we say soda, hoagies and subs are two different types of bread, and we don't have lightning bugs/fireflies here, so I don't know what we call them. (Though I personally refer to them as fireflies.)

Here in the sticks of NW Florida, it's Coke, sub and lightning bug. And the place you buy your booze is a liquor store. The fridge is called a fridge by most, but some of the old timers call it an ice box. The same for drawing water. We have a lot of hill billy sayings, even though we are a good way from the hills.

    Texas:

Everything is called a coke. When you say you want a coke, you will be asked which kind. I guess subs? And lightning bugs for sure

We also say yall of course, and some countrified folk say 'aint' and 'fixin to' but not all Texans. Ok, ok sometimes I'll accidentally let a 'fixin to' slip but it's rare. Oh, and something my Colorado born husband doesn't understand.. the word 'pallet' and I don't mean the wood kind. Anyone else use that term?

    Texas (Dallas)

    soda
subs (really, we just call them all sandwiches no matter what the bread or filling, except hamburgers)
    lightning bugs

I think nearly the whole US says "y'all" now. It's probably the most practical plural of you there is, and it's an easy contraction to say. I've heard people using it everywhere. its pretty handy!!

    and shopping cart.

west Texas - 1. Every carbonated drink is coke...you then get asked your preference...2. Sub... 3. fireflies? Lightning bugs? I have to go with the girl above who said all they have is mosquitos....because that is all that is around here as well.

Pallets are made on the floor for babies/toddlers to sleep, and the "ice box" is still used around here as well.
Y'all is a word - please don't argue - it just is around here.
Fixin' to - unfortunately, I have been guilty of this one - and it drives me nuts when I catch myself.

Texas...it's a coke here no matter what flavor it is (the exception would maybe be a Dr. Pepper, but I still call it a coke.)
And it's subs and lightning bugs.

Do you say Pop or Soda? COKE
    Hoagies or Subs? SUBWAY
Lightening bugs or fireflies? neither, we don't have those

I'm from Ohio but now in PA and I say Pop, subs, and lightening bugs.

Tell me what you say and where you are from and add in new words too!

    I'm from LA:

"Do you want a coke?"..."yeah what kind you got?" ...."diet, regular or orange"..."is the orange diet?"...."no"..."okay then diet coke".

"I feel like eating Subway"...get in car start driving..."Togo's is closer you want that?"...."no, actually you know what, I gotta go to Von's anyways for milk we'll just get one there."...."Ok."

"What are those lit up firey things flying around?"..."BULLETS! DUCK!"

Here's one for you, Bologna is called Jumbo in SW Pennsylvania where my husband is from. My first visit they had to have thought I was a complete idiot. My SIL asked if I wanted a fried jumbo sandwich, I said no just a regular sized one would be great. I'm from California. I say soda, sub and firefly, he says pop, hoagie and lightening bug.
