What's with the pose, ladies?

It accentuates the hour glass shape from a side or head on angle. I personally am a fan of what I call the "Kate Middleton" pose. Elbows bent with arms out slightly, hands in front of the stomach (not that she has anything to hide). It enhances the hour glass figure by allowing the camera (or person) a view of the natural waist which is usually the smallest part on the torso.0

YOU HAVE YOUR HAND ON YOUR HIP!!! YOU ARE A BAD PERSON!!!0 -
still better than all those weird laying-down bikini pictures people have lately.
guess I'll just leave then
Don't go anywhere - some of us like those shots...:devil:0 -
LOL my teenage step daughters do this. We have all started to "do the pose" when we take pictures with them and they hate it.0

You should just stick to wondering why no one hits on you, a married woman, at the bar.
This just made my day a little better.0 -

It seems like some women simply cannot post here without being all judgmental and giving a flip what other women do all the time. What's up with that? It looks incredibly awkward and forced to me.0

Just realized who OP is. Not sure if serious.0

My reaction image folder thanks you.0 -
Wow, people, chill out.
1. No one said I was "offended" by this.
2. I'm not being judgmental. I'm simply asking why people do this. I was looking for an actual answer.
3. Yes, I've done the one arm thing in pictures, but not every single one. I'm specifically referring to women that have no other pose but that one. I was just curious as to if there was a reason behind it (i.e. it gives the illusion of an hourglass shape).
4. Shaming? Really? I swear, people are so easily offended.
5. Once again, chill out.
By the way, saying I'm shaming people and then turning right around and poking fun at my pictures doesn't make you clever. It makes you a hypocrite. And calling me a hypocrite while being a hypocrite is even worse. But as I said, I'm not shaming anyone.0 -
... It's how they WANT to pose. Let them be. If they want duck lips, then go ahead, if they want peace signs, sure why not.0

I'm fidgety, so I put my hands on my hips to keep my hands from moving. People. Always have to find something to complain about!

This is my "pleae go on" face. Don't I look interested? I'm posing with a straw which is just stoooopid.
THAT'S HUGE>>>>>> I can't edit...meh. Whatever...haha.0 -
I call this the planking AND "awkward bikini pic"....two in one. It's not at all forced because there's no hand on the hip...sooo natural.

I prefer half peace signs personally....0 -
From a photography standpoint, from an actual photographer:
::shamelessplug:: www.subjectonephotography.com ::endshamelessplug::
It creates negative space between the torso and the body accentuating the curves of the torso. Also, the hand on the hip pose subliminally forces the shoulder down and back, as well as a slight arch to the back which in turn forces the chest out, butt out, and chin up.
If done right, it should elongate the body, creating the illusion of curves and a slimmer profile.0 -
Cause the hips don't lie. Duh.0

It seems like some can't take a reverse/mirror selfie either. The way they concentrate on the phone like "am I doing this right" is so off putting.
You, I really like you.0 -

Why are you FORCING your lips together? Gawd, can't you drink through a straw without wrinkling your lips!?!?! SMH.0 -
