The guidelines mean that you can trust the dominant in order to be able to submit without feeling terrified. Sure there will be pain, fear, uncertainty. But, you know that in the end you will not have been brutally raped, beaten, permanently injured, psychologically traumatized, angry, and experienced no pleasure. Especially if you have been through that before. Once you trust and feel safe, you are much more willing and eager to submit in a more full way. Some people need to form that trust before allowing themselves to be put in that completely vulnerable position from which they would not be able to escape.

Be honest, wouldn't someone screaming out "pickles" completely ruin it?

Isn't that the point of a safeword, though? You pick something like your mom's name as the safeword and it's guaranteed to immediately kill the scene.

But if you need a safe word, then you're banging/binding/tickling someone you haven't known long enough to trust. If you're banging/binding/tickling someone you haven't known long enough to trust, then how is he going to know your mom's name?

    "Lillian! I said Lillian!!"

"I said my name was Killian, not Lillian. Get it right."
From what I understand, the safe word or signal is there always, because in the middle of a scene you might be overthrown (is that the right word?) by sudden and unexpected emotions or what you thought you could handle (physiology-wise etc.) on that day maybe wasn't true or something else, so all of a sudden your needs may change in the middle of the scene, yet your dom can't read your mind. I may be wrong here, but I'm under the impression that "established couples" also use this.

If I misunderstood what you meant, disregard this comment please.

I'm sorry, but I found the books horribly written and stupid, as well as promoting an abusive relationship.

I have no intention of seeing the film.

    ^^^ I like this girl, she's spot on:smile:

In for the obvious trolling. At least the Gor series can string together a gramatically on target sentence. :drinker:

The Gorean world makes the purported abusiveness of 50 Shades look like candyland.

    Eh.

It isn't that there's a book portraying abuse that's the problem. It's that it doesn't know it's portraying abuse and so many people read it and think it's romance.

Lolita is about horrible abuse and is one of the most incredible books ever written. But it KNOWS it's about abuse. The scary thing about that is the number of people who think Lolita is about romance and true love ...

Couldn't stomach this whole thread, but for anyone who hasn't watched Gilbert Gottfried reading an excerpt from the book... Enjoy:

Read half of the book on my honeymoon-- thought it would give me inspiration.
It was dull, boring, and poorly written.

I like easy chick lit books for beach days, I couldn't even get through half I was so bored and uninterested.
The movie looks like it will be a high grade porn-- don't understand what the fuss is over this franchise.

I am amazed at the number of persons who didn't pick up on this sophisticated trolling. This was amazing. Suffering from utter amazement.

I didn't read the books, I can find badly written fanfic for free online all on my own without every Kindle-wielding woman wishing the world to know how risqué and sexually open she is, pointing me to it with her shriveled fingertips, thank you very much.
