(In October, I have the 125-mile Great River Ride in Westfield, followed 6 days later by Fat Cyclist's 100 Miles of Nowhere, so that will be the big mileage month this year, I think!)

I'm definitely looking forward to 100MON!!! Will be my first century plus my first 100MON.

About another full month of hot weather before we really start to cool down. I can't thank mother nature enough for the terrific riding weather over this summer. With the exception of ONE rain day last Friday, I've commuted to work and back every single workday since sometime in early June.

No exercise bike yesterday because I was too lethargic to bike.

    Today's exercise bike:

    Minutes rode: 18

    Miles rode: 3

    Calories burnt: 100

Very pathetic for me. I had to stop because my heart rate was spiking 188. Then I started to not feel good so I knew that wasn't a good thing.

  • Last month was a bust for me as I was gone half the month for work. I'm going for 250 miles this month. With so much rain, I've added running to my exercise mix. Some days I don't trust the semi-wet roads and prefer to run. My goal is a 250/25 mile ride/run mix. I'm sure I'll have more of one than the other.

Here in Louisiana the heat is bad, but the humidity has been brutal. It can be tough to stay hydrated. Everyone make sure you stay hydrated! It can get dangerous out there during these hot months. Best of luck to everyone!

    MTD, I'm at 92 ride/ 9 run.

I haven't utilized the exercise bike today. I went shopping instead at the store for food for the month. I will get back on hopefully Tuesday(Monday I can't because I have to go and get more food at the food bank).

August 1 - rode 11.5 miles for a duration of 00:45:20 (XC Race Warm-Up Practice)
    August 2 - rode 6.95 miles for a duration of 00:35:00 (XC pre-ride lap)
August 3 - rode 21.71 miles for a duration of 1:52:02 (XC race)
    August 5 - rode 8.61 miles for a duration of 47:30
    August 8 - rode 44.02 miles for a duration of 2:48:46

August Totals: 92.79 miles for a duration of 06:48:38

***August Goals = race well in mountain bike races on my calendar for the 3rd, 17th, 24th, and the big "50 miler" on the 31st. That's a lot of mountain bike racing for one month meaning I will have to taper and recover as best as possible this month to pull it off.

    08/03 - 105 miles @ 15.9mph w 6,050' climbing
    08/05 - 66 miles @ 15.4mph w/3,600' climbing
    08/08 - 72 miles @ 16.2mph w/3,100' climbing

August Total: 305 miles and 15,550 feet of climbing

    Goal #1 for August
    Miles: 400
    Climbing: 20,000 feet

I'm finally getting back in biking shape and have a couple vacation days in Aug so I'm hoping to hit my goal #1 early and get to strive for a goal #2.

Also for you other cyclist doing long rides (metric century’s/century/+) how do you refuel? Do you just have snacks as your ride? (If so what works best for you?) Or do you stop somewhere and have a larger meal? How do you handle breaks?

I find I can go about 4 hours (metric century) on just snacks and 1 or 2 short (<10min) breaks but after that I need a long (45min-1hr) break and a real meal. I also noticed that if I ever let my energy level dip a little low then no mater how long I rest or how much I eat it never really seems to recover.

I like to take a short break about every 15 to 20 miles for a few minutes. My first break I usual have a Clif bar. My second break will be a bit longer and I have something like a bagel and egg sandwich.

sorry, I somehow erased the quote thing.

When I go on rides for about two hours I only take water. Over two hours I always have a banana, and couple of dates and nuts with me. I do not believe in energy bars. When I go over 60 miles I have a meal somewhere and rest for an hour.
