This Forum is great! It's nice to have a non-judgemental zone to post topics and questions relating to drinking! Thanks0

My problem is that I like to have a yummy (chocolate or vanilla) drink at night. Do you think 1 each day ( if it is in my calorie range) is OK or do you think indulging in the sweet flavored drinks will sabotage my diet in the long run?0

Oh, there are people out there that will quote you study after study about how alcohol impacts the liver and yadda, yadda, yadda, then it impacts the body's ability to metabolize fat, blah, blah, blah...
I'm not one of those people.
I say, if you're in your calorie limit, go for it. :drinker:0 -
I don't know, maybe a calorie is a calorie-it doesn't matter whether it came from carb, fat or sugar. But I am trying not to drink beer for the next three weeks. I don't know that I think beer is worse than vodka or wine, but I seem to be able to drink more of it.0

I just found this string and I am loving it. I have been part of a group called HASH for years now (I even meet my husband there). It is not illegal. the official motto of HASH is "we are a drinking club with a running problem". we get together on the weekend and run/walk (i walk) and have some beers. There is a "trail" set up to find and follow and if you break traditions you have to drink some beer. OH NO
It is great. I can drink but still get in some exercise to offset the calories.
HASH is a world wide group with a HASH house in about every major city. here is how you can find one in your area. http://half-mind.com/index.php0 -
This thread will be useful for when my French family comes to town.
Glass of wine with lunch, two different wines with dinner, and a dessert wine after...
I'm going to need a teeny tiny glass!0 -
Hey Amy...I get tomorrow off again.
It's because the busses won't start. I'm not complaining!!
I just had some hot white chocolate and vanilla with a bit of orange vodka and Irish cream. Yum!!!0 -

I did it! Well, almost - if I can make it through tonight, I'll have gone for one month with no alcohol what so ever!!!
Must be the first time in 15 years I've been sober this long. Two weeks to go to reach my goal now...
Great job. This is a fabulous accomplishment. I haven't gone that long by any means & know what discipline it takes. Well done!0 -
Hey Guys,
If any of you are watching tv, the Drs. are showing you how to lose with booze! Ahhhhhhh:drinker: Highlights: Wine is better that beer for the belly. Cheap white wine has less nitrates than expensive so if you get headaches from wine, go for the cheap stuff. Lean belly shot: ginger, mint leaves, cucumbers, club soda & gin. Drink up!0 -
Well, I've just switched to dry wine as it has less calories...getting to quite like it now, in fact I'm just going to have a glass or two sitting in the sun out on the deck - what could be nicer..??? I find it i have one an hour before dinner, it curbs my apetite and i dont eat as much...and do you know that red wine is good for the heart?0

I haven't posted on this thread for a while. Anyway, YES, I am still drinking, and YES, I still manage to stay under my allotted calories. i stalled out for a couple of weeks, but I had lost another pound as of yesterday. I don't believe it has anything to do with the alcohol, but I'm totally willing to cut it out for a couple of weeks if all else fails. I've known far too many SKINNY ALCOHOLICS to jump on the wagon just yet!
My one question do the rest of you like minded lushes: Do you think most people chart their alcohol consumption? I do....but I happened to look at some of my friends food diaries, and I'm not seeing a whole lot of alcohol being consumed. There are one or two that seem to be honest, and a few that type in some "quick add" calories that could be questionable, but I don't see a whole lot of booze. (Oh, except for one guy who apparently couldn't spell and had to break up with his girlfriend after "ONE" glass of wine *coughs* (BULLSH!T))
Anywho... Am I really that different from everyone else, or just more "take it or leave it". This is me. Maybe I was raised in a family of raging alcoholics, but if I was, I swear I had it better than most of the other friends I had. I have been loved, un-abused, encouraged, and encouraged to succeed by my family....who all drink sometimes. Am I weird? Is everyone just a bit sensitive? I would love to hear some opinions from other "Like Minded Lushes". Please respond.

amyd-i think some people don't count wine/booze. for instance, i just got back from vacation, one night i had 4 or 5 glasses of wine, I counted it (although i may have slightly underestimated the ounces since i didn't measure them), but my partner who is much more dilligent than i about measuring the food he puts into mpf didn't count anything while we were away. he just kept telling me, don't do it, you don't want to know. i on the other hand know which days i was 300 calories over, and tried to compensate with long walks on the beach or figured i'd make it up when i returned to my regular schedule.
ps after my wino vacation, i still lost one pound!0 -
This is just the forum for me. Wine is my weakness and not only that I LOVE the wine that is probably the worst for you. Moscato! I could drink a whole bottle or more in one evening. I am doing good this week though. I haven't bought a bottle and have been instead drinking green tea (it's just not the same but it definitely fits better with my goals. Weekends are a different story. We shall see, thanks for starting this group. I now know I am not the only one struggling with alsoholic calories!0
