Quitting smoking is going to be hard, wile I do not smoke much, my main concern now is weight gain. Last time i gained over 10lbs!!! That wold completely undo everything! and then some! Congrsts R2L on being smokefree tho! I hope I can get there and be skinny some day!0

VT – yes, net calories. I always eat over 1200 before exercise and I eat back some or all of my exercise calories. Days like today when I burned over 500 (and I had an excess last night) I try to leave a couple hundred leftover. Thanks for pointing that out though, it is very important! Nice to hear from you again! Take good care of yourself!!
Butterphy – Congrats on quitting smoking!! That is an awesome step. I quit April 2008 (after 25 years of smoking and quitting a couple times, once for over 2 years). And if you have issues with gaining a little weight, remember the long term positive affects on your health, including that you will have so much more stamina and lung power that your workouts will become more effective!! I’m sure the scale will come around for you, in the meantime, just concentrate on being healthy. The only tip I might be able to offer (which helped me move forward from a plateau) is to eat more protein (I’m told 1 to 1 ½ grams per pound of your weight depending on how active you are) and to eat every few hours – both things keep your metabolism up!
Reikichris – your food sounds awesome. I had oatmeal with almonds this morning, bean soup for lunch and not sure about dinner (that’s hubby’s job!) Turkey burgers maybe. Definitely a salad!
Oh, and I don’t have chocolate recipes either!! I take my chocolate straight!!
Hope I didn’t miss anyone! Back to Dr. yesterday, back on the corticosteroids and antihistamines, this time I have to taper off the steroids more slowing. Worried about taking them for another few weeks, but can’t deal with having an itchy rash, so I’ll just be careful not to be around sick people, take extra Cs and Ds and continue working out!
Did a kickbutt job (if I don’t say so myself) on my Burn/Boost workout this morning and feeling pretty good today. I also got a shower soap thing from the Dr, you suds it up and leave it on for ten minutes, then rinse, followed that with Aveeno extra healing lotion and hardly itching now (Thank God!!!). Busy day at work today. I work 9 hours today and tomorrow then have Friday off.
Have a Rock and Roll day everyone!
LOL, oh and here’s another one I found today from Jillian Michaels:
"Do you realize that there is nothing in our genes that tells us when to die? There are genetic codes that tell us how to grow, how to breathe, and how to sleep, but NOTHING that tells us to die. So why do we? Because we literally rust and decay our bodies from the inside out with poor food and lifestyle choices."

Here's one Butterphy:
Chocolate Meringue Cookies
3 egg whites
1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
Combine egg whites, cream of tartar, and vanilla. Beat until the whites form soft peaks. Slowly add sugar; beat until stiff peaks form, and mixture becomes glossy. Fold in cocoa and chocolate chips.
Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls on to a greased cookie sheet. (parchment paper works well also) Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
makes 18 at 47 cal each and 1 g fat
they are really good and double chocolatey!!
Big Hug for quitting smoking!! I have my 3rd year smoke-free on April 2. I smoked for about 30 yrs and only used 1 box of nicoteen patches. I really didn't gain any weight ( I weighed more than enough before, lol) I know those X commercials are corny, but true. I had no idea what to do in between chores-- you know, I'll start the laundry and have a cig, I'll run the vacum and then have a cig. Have a cig w/ morning coffee, after meals, ugh! I found a hot tea I liked--orange spice tea--and after dinner I had a cup of tea, whenever I'd have a cig, I'd have tea instead. Driving, I'd never driven without smoking, so I chewed gum. It worked really well. I hope you find what works for you and if you need help, just holler! Best of Luck!!0 -

Here are my plans for today.
Breakfast was 1/2 apple and yogurt followed by a 30 minute cardio and sculpting workout.
For lunch I will have a salad
For snacks I have 10 almonds, laughing bell cheese wedge with 3 crackers, and a veggie plate with otria dip and a jello mouse temptation.
Dinner will be Lentil soup (which I am cooking now. It smells wonderful!) and a glass of merlot.
Phly - Your plan sounds great! I would love to try Zumba, I hear it is a great and fun workout!
Lilac - those cookies sound amazing!0 -
Good Morning everyone!! Up and ready to go this morning. I am a little disappointed that we have not gotten our state income tax refund yet but oh well they sure do take their own sweet time about sending them out. It's almost like they hold onto it as long as they can. Better get off of that subject, it makes me  Not that I am all about money, I'm not but it's ours and we want it.
Chris- your food sounds great.
Phly- Yours does too. I might have to come and eat with you, lol.0 -
Good Morning everyone! Sorry to take so long to check in. Got up and endured 62 mintues of Jillian Michaels kicking my butt, after scooping myself off the floor, I did manage to finally finish my laundry and get my kitchen in order, a quick 10 soak in my new medicine and then ready for work. I had 1/4 cup of cottage cheese before my workout, greek yogurt, berries and almonds for breakfast. I have an orange here at my desk for a snack and lunch will be bean soup (going to add some fresh zuchinni and tomato today) and dinner will be pork tenderloin with veggies and maybe rice, oh last nights dinner was turkey burgers on english muffins and 1/2 cup of ranch beans and a salad with oil and vinager, very yummy!! Tomorrow is my weigh in and my day off (I work every other Friday). Lots to get done at work today and finally feeling less itchy and sleeping without Benedryl so feeling like my old self again. I am getting TONS of attention at work about my weight loss and honestly don't know how to react to it a lot, people often seem to argue or make excuses why what I'm doing would never work for them, so I just keep my answers short and sweet unless I feel someone really wants to know. Funny, too, cause if I say something like "I have a long ways to go" people look at me funny or say oh, no, you are so skinny!! Really? I am Obese, still, not just overweight, Obese!! I am down a couple sizes and look better, but ... have a LONG way to go and and LOT of work to do.
Anyway, I'm rambling on again, sorry!! Lots of work to get done today so I better get to it, huh?
Have an awesome day everyone!!! Your food and plans sound great!!0 -
Here's what's for dinner tonight, it's from Kraft.com in the healthy/budgetwise section and it's really good. I'm trying it with boneless, skinless chicken thighs tonight. I also use 2 bags of frozen 3 pepper and onion blend instead of the fresh, it's cheaper!
Saucy Pepper Steak--serves 4
1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips
1 small onion, cut into strips
1 lb. well-trimmed boneless beef sirloin steak, cut into strips
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. black pepper
3 Tbsp. lite soy sauce
1/2 cup KRAFT Original Barbecue Sauce
2 cups hot cooked brown rice
HEAT large nonstick skillet sprayed with cooking spray on medium-high heat. Add bell peppers and onions; cook and stir 6 to 8 min. or until vegetables are crisp-tender. Transfer to large bowl; keep warm.
ADD meat, garlic and black pepper to same skillet; cook and stir 3 min. Add soy sauce; cook 1 min. or until meat is cooked through. Add barbecue sauce; cook until heated through.
SPOON meat mixture into bowl with vegetables; toss gently. Serve over rice.

Hi HEETers!
Starting to feel like my old self again. Still not logging calories and haven't exercised a lick in days but I'm hoping to get back on track tomorrow. Got a total house clean done today and all the laundry done. That always makes me feel better.
Dinner last night was the Braised Paprika Chicken from Eatingwell. I used B/S Breasts to give myself a shortcut. It was pretty good and DH enjoyed it. Not sure I'd call it a favorite but I'd do it again if I wanted a creamy, comforting, low-cal chicken dinner.
Congrats to all the non-smokers and Phly for taking the plunge. I agree about the weight gain you may see. Think of your overall health AND the money you'll be saving. I don't know what they cost where you are but they are running $50 a carton here. That's $100 a week between DH and myself. Geesh, we could practically pay the mortgage with that...but...I'm just not ready to quit yet.:ohwell:
Hope to see you all in the morning!0 -
Doing good here, grumpy, but good. hope everyone has a good evening!0
-
goodmorning heeters, being a little naughty today. Woke up this morning just starving! I never wake up like this, even when I sleep in! So I grabbed the first thing i saw, it was a mini pie! I feel so bad about it too, but I was starving! Do any of you wake up starving? Any idea why it happens?0
-
Good morning all! Had some will power issues last night and am paying for it today. I didn't go over my calories for the day, but made some not-so-smart food choice (hello sodium) at about 11 p.m. last night.
Here's to strengthening my resolve for the day. I am having yogurt for breakfast followed by Lentil soup for lunch. I have a meeting this morning, so we will have to push fitness off until this afternoon.
For dinner I am having Paneer Tikka Masala and a little Bismati rice. My snacks are fruit, Laughing bell cheese and crackers and popcorn.
Have a great day!0 -
Buterphly - I know what you mean, I get up a few hours b4 the family and I get hungry. I hear your suppose to eat within 1/2 of waking. That whole break-the-fast thing, your tum-tum is really empty by morning! I have a morning snack, sometimes a piece of peanut butter toast or toast and a boiled egg. It's keeps me until I make breakfast for everyone.
Chris-make sure to push the water today to move that sodium through your system. It looks like you have a good plan for the day!0 -
Good Morning everyone!! I am up and ready to go this moring. I will be going out tonight to my fav Chinese Restuarant with my hubby, kids, and my mom and dad maybe. However, I will be trying really hard not to over do it. I don't want to undo all the hard work that I have put into my weight loss journey so far. I know how hard it is to get off and keep it off. I don't want to gain any of it back.
Phly- Yes, some mornings I wake up so hungry and others I don't.0 -

Ok, so this makes sence, but I was soooo hungry, my tumy was growling, ahd hurting. You know that pain you get in your stomach when you forget to eat? Yep,that was it. I have almost worked it off tho. I burned 200 calories doing zumba, the pie was a little more.... You ladies(and gents if you are here) Hav a wonderful day, I need to get back on track!0 -
Butrphly good job working it off, no worries you need to eat early, I have to force myself to eat in the morning, its worse for your metabolism to not eat. I am having a lazy day off, trying to get up and workout, have cramps and know that will help and get my energy up. I succeeded in my goals so far this week, and am proud to say I met my first mini goal and weighed in at 199 today! Had cottage cheese this morning. Will try to have 5 or 6 mini meals today. Had yummy roasted red potatoes with butternut squash, onions and garlic last night with a couple thin cut pork loins sauteed quick in evoo and salt & pepper.
Have a great day everyone!0 -
cristy, congrats on your success! Your supper sounded like it was good, but what is evoo?0
-
That does sound really good, Cristy! EVOO-Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Rachael Ray started this!) My butt is still draggin' from this cold, I'm not sure if it's a round 2 w/ the same one or if I caught a new one b4 the other cold was all the way over!0
-
Thanks! And thanks lilac, yes, extra virgin olive oil, emerald and gaidai say it too, and yes I'm a foodtv addict lol. I also see it in here a lot. Lilac, hope u feel better.
I worked out 62 minutes, so I surpassed my goal for weekdat workouts, had a boiled egg and homemade bread with almond butter, now working on laundry and have some errands to run, I'll bring an Apple and water with me. Don't know about dinner, hubby working 3rd 10 hour day and he has 1 1/2 hr drive home so its 6:30 before I see him. I'll think of something, have a good amount of salad left to go with whatever we have. Have a healthy afternoon! Oh and hope its warming where you are, beautiful here and suppsed to be 70 tomorrow which will he great for my walk!0 -
So I have to say that I am doing good today I have orked off bout 1/2 the calories I have eaten today. That said should my net be over 1200 or my total? My net rite?0
-
Evening all, I hope you all had a good day, Today I did 3 rounds of zumba o the wii, burning 600 calories. (not all at once mind you:laugh:  ) I ended about 200 below my goal today. Tomorrow I will be doing cerael for breakfast, a turke and cheese sandwitch on wheat for lunch. And supper is up in the air. You all have a wonderful night, and be sure to drink your water!:drinker:0

Dinner was steak and potato, which is very scary for me, but I did great and cut my baked potato in half and took it off my plate, trimmed my steak and weighed a 4 oz portion to eat, had a big salad with very little dressing, no butter or sour cream, only one piece of bread and I topped that with roasted garlic only. I did indulged in my husbands merchant sauce (red wine and butter reduction with mushrooms, to die for, really!) But only a little, figured it at about 120 calories, could have been a bit more, but I was still about 80 calories under goal, so I felt good about it, definitely not my healthiest meal, put me over goal on carbs and sodium (I have both set lower than MFP suggested) and not one to have very often, but nice to fit such things in.
Breakfast was English muffin with 1/2 slice of cheese and one egg and one egg white scrambled, gave hubby the same but two yolks and a whole slice of cheese, so that worked out good.
I just ate an apple after my walk, hungry and in need of groceries now.
Had a great walk today, added a loop that has some hills, gravel and even a flight of stairs, then through sand along the canal, then a steep downhill next to a beautiful old church, then back into the neighborhood on concrete and blacktop, slower pace, but a great workout and 4.4 miles in 72 minutes! Think I'll keep it the same next Saturday! Hope you are all having a fantastic day! (aren't endorphines awesome?)
Edited for typos and to mention it is 72 here now, forecasted 79!0 -
Good morning Ladies.
Been a lurker for a few days. Not too much going on until yesterday. My daugher had her first play. She was in Cinderella. My mom and both grandmothers came up. I made lemon chicken tenders. My husband and son made a chocolate cake for his Blue and Gold banquet for Boy Scouts. I went had salad a tiny bit of pasta and a cupcake. Was still under calories.
I worked out before they got here because I was on day 3 week 5 of c25k. I had to jog for 20 minutes. I did think I could do it. I had my DH give me a pep talk and hopped on the treadmill. Wooohhoooo!! Drum rolll~~~~~ I did it~~~~ I was super proud of myself.
In 4 more weeks I might actually be able to run a 5k. The only reason I say might is because they have you run for 30 minutes on the last week. I am not concerned about the 30 minutes, but when I figure it out, to do a 5 k in 30 mn you would need to run 6m per hour. I'm not even close to that. I will work on getting distance before I get the speed, even if it takes me an hour to do.0 -
Morning all! Been busy around here last few days! I didn't have to work Thurs and Friday at my "real job" which let me have some time to myself which was nice. Thursday I ended up working at home with my contract job on "overflow" which was nice. Friday I went shopping for our friends baby...went to Once upon a child and LOADED up with their $1 sale! She now has enough onesies and sleepers in sizes 0-3 month and 3-6 month! Even a few in 6-9 months! My husband gave me a hard time about it though! LOL
Saturday I joined a friend and her family to the mall. I walked for about 4 hours! We had a wonderful time and it was an awesome day.
Today we are picking up a used elliptical we found on craigslist and spending the day together for Valentines!
My food hasn't been great last few days...but I've had a lot of exercise so I haven't gone over...which is the main thing!
I have lost a total of 25 pounds since 12/26 so I am excited about that!
Everyone have an awesome day!0 -

Hi, I just came across this group and it looks interesting...do you mind a newbie jumping in?
I am a 56 yr old single with empty nest living in ME( talk about snow/cold...LOL). Am a working RN doing private duty in homes overnights. Work 3 -12hr nights then flip to days to be with the "real " world, then flip back to nights. All the flipping has caused some grief for me with logging in ( thus the times vs meals on food log), especially since MFP does not allow posting a day after 12 mn Pacific time. I do not always have access at work to log in. Currently I log what have eaten when able to get online then what planned for rest of 24 hrs and will "fix" to actual next day...this way MFP accepts post. My diary is open to friends.
If you accept me in to your group I will try to log each day ( when have access/time). :happy:0 -
Kitchen done, living room done, and zumba done. O and I ate too. Se you all later!0
-
Welcome meadair! Sorry to hear about your work schedule, is this a new thing or have you been doing this for a while? I don't think I could! Have a wonderful day!:flowerforyou:0
