new year's resolutions: lose 5-15 pounds by summer solstice

if anyone wants to do a challenge this weekend, it is: TO GO SWIMMING. i will post the challenge on thursdays after the weigh-in. it will be a random idea and you can chose to participate or not. if you do, have fun at the pool!
I went swimming today for the first time this year. Signed up for a program called Iron May where you try to complete a full triathlon in one month instead of one day. I've put off the swimming part until today - I think your challenge was a sign I needed to get in the pool (19 days into May already). Anyway I use to remember swimming a mile in less than 40 minutes. Today it took me 30 minutes to swim half of a mile and I don't think my arms will be able to move for the rest of the week. :grumble: Now I've only got 1.9 miles to go to finish my IronMay. I wonder how long it will take doing a back stroke only using my feet????
lol stormy, you can do it!! my next goal after completing the half-marathon is to complete a tri. swimming will be the most difficult part for me.0 -

Hey Megoo19 and Monky13grl. I’ve got a challenge for both of you to consider??? You both have about 6 pounds to get to your goals and I worked my way up to 12 pounds now. My challenge is to see which one of us can be the first make it to our goals. Meego has the Duken thing going on and Monky lost 4 pounds last week so you both seem to have a good thing going. I just need the extra motivation. No pressure – If you don’t want to take on this personal challenge from a Big Loser like me I can appreciate that. However, I will be lookin at your results for my own motivation. Only 5 weeks til Summer.:happy:

When I started C25K, I gained 5 lbs in the first 4 weeks. I didn't change anything else about my diet and in fact was eating better, so I got really discouraged. Then I dropped 3 lbs between the 5th and 6th week. I read an article about running that some runners gain weight when they first start b/c their bodies are filled with fluid from healing the muscles and joints after being torn down due to the running movement. I know not *everyone* experiences this weight gain, but enough do to warrant an article on the C25K website, so I took it and ran with it, made me feel a little less discouraged.
I don't know what your calorie intake is, but I also recently decreased mine 200 more calories and am MAKING myself eat exercise calories. And it seems to be helping. Good luck! Stay strong! ((HUGS))0 -

I expected a gain this week, due to starting P90x! Day 4 today and I am SOOOOOO SORE!!!! I'm sure my muscles are retaining some fluid. Seems that we are on a losing streak right now (and MFP is the only place I know where a losing streak is a good thing lol :laugh: ) I appreciate all the sweet comments from everyone about me reaching my goal weight. I feel so confident now! It was nice to be able to finally post my befores and afters in the success stories....these challenges and seeing everyone else's success is what has kept me going. I didnt even bother weighing in this week...my grandfather was in hospital all week and we just lost him yesterday. I havent been able to eat very well and am eating of course out of depression. So maybe I will try to get back on track today...I automatically get 3 days off from work...so now I am home until Wednesday...will do alot of gardening and housework...and get my workout on too
I hope everyone has a wonderful memorial day weekend.
In one month I have lost 2 inches off my waist....i have lost 5 inches over all since September! :blushing:0 -

So sorry about your grandfather. Sometimes things like eating habits and exercise have to take a back seat to more important things...in your case, emotional healing. Your heart muscle is the most important one of all, and when it's hurting you just have to give yourself a break. Hang in there!0 -

Not sure why there's no loss, even up .2, but I am not going to worry about it. Probably too much salt or something dumb...I am still in One-derland so I am not going to sweat the small stuff. I did weigh in yesterday...I just had such a crazy day I didn't get it posted. This is going to be a crazy week...my son is graduating from HS tomorrow and I have family descending later today. Plus, i am running a 5K on Saturday and going to a friend's Master's ceremony and my son's friend is staying with us for a week and I am getting tired just thinking about it.
