if someone has a picture of their butt (clothed, underwear), a practically nude picture, or something along those lines? I am not saying that I think it is inappropriate, because I really don't. But I am curious about other peoples opinions.
Personally, those pictures don't bother me at all, except when people post them for the sole purpose of thumbing their noses at the forum rules and are trying to see how far they can push the envelope. I think that's just childish and silly.

"You would show your mom" is the general yardstick for many things in life.

And almost always a good yardstick...
  • that depends on the context I guess. If someone is trying to show differences, and they are showing pictures to emphasize those differences, I imagine it's ok. How us moderators usually do it is, if you wouldn't show your Mother a picture, don't post it on here.

I agree. I think some of the pictures some people post are personal pride over a fantastic achievement and others are just plain ridiculous, but I'm afraid to say anything half the time because if anyone even comes close to saying they're offended it gets a million times worse. I've watched people get word-punched into a pulp for saying some of the risky pictures were making them uncomfortable. Some are so bad sometimes that it makes me uncomfortable to open the site in the family room that my computer is in because my young daughter can see the pictures. Don't get me wrong, if you are proud of your body that is fantastic because no matter what your size is you are beautiful. I just think things should be kept PG around here.

I have always wondered about the PG13 thing that people quote on here, this is a site for adults, children are not allowed to be members, I don't understand why we need to be considering children in this when they are not the target audience and in fact are not allowed to be members.

Also, nudity is fine for 13 year olds in this country, after all its on prime time tv and in the papers, on the beach etc. What is it that we are saying about this site, that it needs to be suitable for toddlers?

I like it! i like the confidence that's behind it. If I see a girl with an amazing body, I'm impressed and motivated. No probs with it at all.....

    Win for you!

personally, i think that when you do stuff like that, people get the wrong idea of you and you get attention from the wrong kinds of people. i'm very conservative though, and i would MUCH rather someone say "hey, you're profile is really interesting" then "hey, nice tits".

if you think you have a nice butt, and you want people to see it, then take a full body shot that shows off your butt without it looking trashy or offending people.

BUT....if you WANT that sort of attention, then go for it! it you want people to tell you how sexy you look, that's fine. but you have to expect the different kinds of attention it's going to receive as well.

    Love this! Very well said.

    ^high five

And if you all EVER see me in undies on here, please report it for removal immediately. I may have had too many glasses of wine the night before.

All joking aside, I have thought :noway: when I saw some before and afters. The reason was that I know this person really had to work up the nerve to show them, and is proud of their accomplishment.

After years of feeling ugly and fat, I can post pictures.......I did not even have a picture to post my first day here.

So it depends on the intent.

No, no, not at all. Just appropriate enough to open on a public computer without getting funny looks. I just don't want to see suspenders, garters, and the things your underwear should be covering. Really bad swear words get censored in the forums, I think the pictures should pretty much match the swear line. It must be the cultural difference, although I would want my daughter at 13 to be comfortable in her own skin I wouldn't feel comfortable with her being naked on a beach at that age. That is not to say you're wrong or anything like that, everyone and everyplace is different and I am totally cool with that. I would want my 13 year old daughter to understand that as well. Different strokes for different folks.

whoops sorry, wasn't implying that its ok for 13 year olds to be naked, unless they are on a nudist beach, but that it is fine for 13 year olds to see nudity as long as it is not porn. I am a mother of three, two girls and a boy, who grew up in a house with a large and semi naked picture of me on the wall. My Mum used to have one like it too.

I appreciate the B&A threads that give you a warning before you open them with a title like "B&A Warning: Underwear pics!" I like to look at the pictures and the undies don't really bother me but I do have kids and a husband so I try to be careful what I look at when they're nearby. Since I'm usually on my laptop in my living room or even at the public library I really appreciate those warnings!

There are a couple of profile pictures where it's just the person's butt in a skimpy pair of undies. Those make me LOL and shake my head. Just because I personally don't see the need to photograph my butt and post it up there for everyone. But hey, they are nice butts!

I could care less- I have bigger issues and ones that actually effect my life than what some person wants to use as their profile pic or what types of pics they choose for their success story. I don't need adults telling other adults what they can and can't post to either 1- show off their success or 2- what they even want to gain attention for. Really, does it effect YOUR life in anyway? If you answered yes to that question, you may need to stay away from the computer for awhile

I personally don't care. Can't see results with clothing in the way.

I too am old fashion. There is a difference between a bathing suit bottom and underwear. I don't want to see it here. Like the gentleman before me said "if you would not show that picture to your mother [or your pastor]:noway: it don't belong on here. Like I said I am old fashion and proud of it.

I don't know about you but I've seen underwear (thongs and g strings included) that cover more then some suit bottoms and tops. Seems like some swim suit clothing companies think floss is not only great for your teeth.

And for the religion part, according to the Bible, God made us naked. The first humans walked around naked and thought nothing of it. Only until they ate some forbidden fruit did they cover themselves. Maybe it was God's purpose for us to be naked. :) I kid. I'm still wearing clothes when I have to.

agreed with most! if u got it, flaunt it! however try to be tasteful with it. i too have seen pics that were very tasteful, and then i believe the lingerie pics are put up for attention! bikinis cool, sports bra and boy shorts, cool, but the full on lingerie, save that for ur significant other. its not really needed. if i wanted to see that i would go to a site for that. but to each their own. again, if u got it, flaunt it i suppose.

lol that's cute, but my half naked pictures were of me as an adult, not baby pictures. My girls have also modelled and I have a large picture of them, but they are clothed. I also have a photograph on my desk of my oldest daughter in her bra and some electrical tape....

^^This, is where I stand. I find trends like b00bie or b00tie Friday to be utterly ridiculous. I don't care about people's particular assets (mine are plenty), but when people choose to post photos of their breasts and butts simply to give an eff-you to this web site and the people who work so hard to maintain it, then I would prefer that those users would take their disrespect and calorie counting somewhere else. Nude bodies and partially clothed bodies do not offend me, but that doesn't mean that this site is the place to post your MySpace-ready, soft p0rn photos.

The creators of this site are happy to give us a place to share our stories and cheer for each other's success. But if you need people to see everything in order to feel like your journey was worth it, then you need to do some serious internal work and get in touch with who you are. There simply aren't enough compliments to fill that kind of emptiness.

That is why I wholeheartedly disagree with those who are saying that posting an underwear pic takes confidence. I think it shows a complete lack of confidence. I have seen users with absolutely amazing bodies who manage to show off their hard work without a single image in their underwear. When you know that you have worked hard and your results show, you do not have to show everything in a desperate hunt for compliments.

Just for the record, nothing any of my friends that participated in was done as an eff you to the site owners or the rules but in response to those profile police that feel compelled to on their own send messages condemning a pic someone had.
It seems now that has moved beyond sending PMs and instead complaining to the site owners/staff.
To click on a profile and gripe about pics there to me is just weird and those that have need to be told to get a life (my opinion) but in our society today any perceived offense must be alleviated I guess. :ohwell:

People should understand what MFP is and is not.

It is a privately owned site with rules, last I checked none declaring only a shoulders up pic so as no one can sense anything remotely sexual.
It is also a business enterprise for the owners, not demeaning their desire to help people get fit in any way but also recognizing it is a way to pay the bills of life.

It is not a church or a cult that demands strict adherence to a code of morality, accept that some folks feel different about things and live and let live...so much easier that way.

No one is forced to be here,no one is forced to use the forums or have friends.
There are tools to be used, various topics to read and respond to.
Make it what is fun and best for you! :drinker:

When I took my fat pictures (I'm not done yet!) some were clothed and some were in underwear. None were in a bathing suit. The reason for this is I am not so delusional as to think I look good (or even passable!) in a bikini. I do not own one and won't until I reach my goal weight. Now I don't know if I'll ever post my underwear pics, but if I do people will just have to deal with it! Honestly I think it's better than if I had been ridiculous and actually subjected the entire public (at pools and such) to my body in a bikini at this point. I personally never think it's weird unless it's a thong or something. I find the human body beautiful (I'm a Christian btw) and as long as the private areas are covered I'm good! Also, I'd show my mom much more revealing pics than I'd put on this site so that rule doesn't work for everyone! My mom andbi are super close and I don't think you should be ashamed oh your body with family  Anyway, just my opinion.

Clothes can change a figure end of. You can dress your figure and make it look different.

My starting pics are in my underwear, its not like they are ann summers peepholes or anything so what is the big deal?

If you dont want to look you dont have to, why should one adult have more say or opinions be more worthy than another?
