:flowerforyou: Jackie  I viewed your blue potato picture before reading what is was. I had horses at one time and that is what I thought it was. I have never seen potatoes that color.

:flowerforyou: Marie :blushing: I slept in til 7 this morning. You are so sweet for thanking everyone. You are a very special lady and I am glad to see your smiling face every morning.

:flowerforyou: Judy, my first thought was that the doctor in your joke must be blind. But.....then I remembered that I had two babies of my own after becoming a grandmother. As Marie said..Grandmothers never get too old. (No, actually I am too old now. If I weren't I would probably still be having babies. )

Having a rather bad time emotionally. We seem to be having problems in the family. I am trying to not let this keep me from living healthy.

Thanks Sandy - love your new profile pic....you seem to be looking younger every time you change it. Happy Canada Day to all of you.

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target.

Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse.

Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target:

    Dear Mrs. Harris,

Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Harris, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras:

    1. June 15: He took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking.

    2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

    3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom.

    4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money.

    5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway.

    6. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

    7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.

    8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMTs were called.

9.. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

    10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

    11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the ' Mission Impossible' theme.

    12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look' by using different sizes of funnels.

    13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!'

    14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!'

    And last, but not least:

    15. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.

OMG  My family and I can't stop laughing! Thanks for making my Saturday morning a memorable one!

well Jackie you thief you. How Lovely.. Thank you it is beautiul.. You can make anything grow. This texas heat got the best of us. and no rain. Our pecans are falling off the tree all dry up. so no pecans this year. My neigbor did not get any pears either. Bad year for a crop. Poor little squirells. Have to eat bread ths winter.or whatever they can find.

I just hope Jerry can keep our blackberries alive. We just planted 5 this spring. He keeps them water good but that don't help much when it is this hot.So far the grass is staying green. but don't know how long.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: I have read all the posts but can't keep everything straight except that the blue potatoes look delicious  and once again, Marie is the sweetest and kindest person.:heart:

:flowerforyou: moving plans continue to go well. after the home inspection on Thursday we are really in love with our new house. escrow will close on the house we are in now on August 9 and on the house we are buying on August 10 and we will have until August 19 to be completely out although we expect to be out sooner depending on when our young strong friends can help us move the big furniture.

 today we bought a big beautiful cat tree for Bernie who will be an indoor cat in the new house and will need someplace to play and hide from the dogs.

:flowerforyou: we had a beautiful warm day with temps almost 75

:flowerforyou: the story about me and dancing is that when I walk the dogs in the neighborhood or walk while they play at the off leash park, I listen to music through a bluetooth earbud and when the line dance music plays, I dance. When I have dogs on leashes I can't do the turns because I get tangled so I modify the dances

:flowerforyou: Judy, Jake and I both howled at your grandma joke

     we have been going to bed really early because we both wake up a lot in the middle of the night and make lists and then read for awhile before going back to sleep, then we get up about five AM.......

Hi everyone from cloudy and cool Saskatchewan. We had a nice evening with my son, dil and Neil. I had hoped that it would take Neil's mind off himself but it wasn't to be. It is hard to enjoy oneself when you are being continually 'zapped'!!! This morning I woke to him crying for help. He was having seizure after seizure with little break in between. I believe he had about 8 seizures. I was able to get the stimulator working and stop the seizures and this was quickly followed by the 'shocks'. How does one know which is better, to allow the seizures or have the shocks?? Both seem scary to me. Tuesday will not be here soon enough for us! I have decided to keep him home for the next few days (at least) and see if we can get this fixed. He is supposed to go on his fishing trip Aug. 1. He already knows that this is likely not going to happen. He is quite calm about the possibility of not going and is rationalizing it by saying he doesn't want to scare the other guys. It is breaking my heart that he will miss this adventure that he has been looking forward to for weeks.

Sorry for being so self-indulgent tonight. Have a wonderful Sunday. Gayla

Gayla, can't you call the doctor and tell him it is an emergency? Won't he meet you at the hospital to give Neil some relief. This is so heart breaking, someone has to help him and work a miracle so he can go on his fishing trip.

Hi to you all. We have sunshine in Saskatchewan. Dave has been out doing some grass trimming around the trees. I went out in my slippers and found the grass was very wet! I did check my garden and it looks very healthy. Lots of strawberries but none ripe. I didn't cover them this year and have a feeling the birds have been enjoying them. I didn't get far enough on the wet grass to see if I have any pincherries left but to be honest I don't really feel like making jelly.

Marie and Sandy -- thanks for your concern for Neil and for me. So far today is a better day. He has only had one seizure and has not been zapped. He doesn't want me to remove the magnet (which turns off the vagal nerve stimulator) I have taped over the stimulator in his chest because he is fearful of the shocks. I do know that if it is not removed he will have some seizures. The but is . . . After we took a break from the magnet yesterday it took a long time to get it settled again. The reason we are not taking him back to the neurologist is that they are waiting for a repair on the computer that resets the stimulator. They ( and we) are very unhappy with the company. They are supposed to have someone there to fix the glitch Monday. Very bad timing for Neil! But, if the day continues as we are now it will be ok.

Life is so odd. Dave and I have been wanting to go on a little holiday for quite awhile. I keep putting off booking it and had decided I was being over protective and silly. Now I know why my instincts were on alert.

We are just hanging out watching TV and visiting.

Have a nice day with Alice, Marie. Stay cool! You will get back on the program soon. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

Good evening ladies ~ A funny old day today as I awoke to mist and drizzle and am going to go to bed with the same stuff hanging around outside but in between we had some warmth and sunshine and I managed to climb a ladder to cut out some thick branches in the magnolia tree because it was becoming too dense. Laughed at myself trying to hang on to the ladder with my knees whilst using a saw and loppers to cut out the branches. There was a mahonia bush below that would have been very prickly to fall into so that kept me hanging on tight!!  I also had a lovely long chat to my brother who lives in Spain. We use Skype so it's great to see him, even if he is sitting topless because it's over 100 degrees there!

Marie ~ You're right LOL I did feel like a thief.  The coincidence was that I'd been in a garden centre next to the supermarket and seen a potted white budlia that was very sad because it hadn't been watered and they still wanted £5 for it so I'd put it back and walked outside to see the carpark surrounded by them!! Couldn't resist could I.  I'm sorry you are suffering with drought conditions as it can have such a devastating affect on plants and wildlife. Just keep putting what water you can spare on the blackberry shrubs, even washing up water will do, and they should be alright. It must be difficult to concentrate on diets when it's so hot but I know you will get back to it when you can. I hope you enjoyed your meal. With the time difference between us you could be sitting in the restaurant as I type!:drinker:

Barbie ~ How exciting that you're nearly into your new home. I love the idea of a cat tree for Bernie. Is it literally a tree shape to climb or something like a scratching post with knobs on?? I've got a fluffy hidey hole for my cats that has a scratching post on top and it's been a wonderful distraction from my sofa and carpets.

Gayla ~ Neil's story is heart-wrenching and I so feel for you all. What a brave lad to be coping so well. I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow and praying something gets sorted.

I'm now going to tuck the hens into their beds and settle down to watch my hired dvd of the latest True Grit. It'll remind me of all my American friends!!

GAYLA, I think mothers have a 6th sense regarding foretelling when we might be needed, and I'm sure I'm just one more voice adding concern for you and Neil! I don't know if I could handle the day to day changes as well as you, and we certainly hope you know we are here for you to rant to , listen to, or marvel with!

MARIE, everytime we see the weather reports from your area, I cringe! Just get through the summer in good health, and when the cooler weather arrives, you'll get right back on track! And of course Jerry will grow another garden next year, because you are BOTH survivors and nurturerers! :drinker:

MONICA, I don't know when you joined us but a hearty welcome to you. We NEED young blood to keep us alert! I, too, loved that joke, and all the others our great story-tellers entertain us with!

BARBIE, how DO you do it all??? A most amazing gal...just keep on moving!

JACKIE, the lady with a magic thumb and magic heart as well! Was it Dr Doolittle who had all the animals in his family? I wonder if he had pet hens, too

Has anyone heard from MADDIE? I sure hope she is feeling well!

I'm not really keeping on track, watching as carefully as I had been up til the heat came on. I won't worry as I'm sure it, too, shall pass; I guess it could be called "the doldrums"! In fact, right now I'm thinking of fish tacos, if we can find them nearby!

:flowerforyou: Today has been the warmest day so far this summer----77 degrees
I wore a short sleeve shirt for the first time  Jim had a friend come for a visit so I took the dogs first to the dog park where they played off leash until they started lying in the shade instead of playing, then for a walk on the trails, then we drove out to the new neighborhood where we walked on the streets and grassy areas where they'll get to walk when we're in the new house. It's a quiet neighborhood with nice private roads and lots of trees. The dogs loved it. Later we treated ourselves to a nap

:flowerforyou: Gayla, it's important for you to tell us what's going on with Neil. We all care about him. I am inspired by his courage in the face of all the challenges. I am encouraged by hearing about how he walks with dignity through the rough patches that life has dealt him. And you need the broad shoulders of your Golden Sneakers friends to lean on in challenging times.

:flowerforyou: Marie, I am so sad to hear about how the heat has devastated your garden. Early in the season when nothing was growing here because of the cold, I envied your warm weather and now I realize that there is a darker side to that bright cloud. I am friends with a woman from Waco, Texas who spends her summers up here because of the heat at home.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I enjoyed hearing about your visit to the new casino......casinos are very popular here so I'm not surprised that there were huge crowds for the grand opening.

 Jackie, Bernie's "cat tree" is really just a giant double scratching post with two enclosed boxy structures at the top of each of the posts and curved bed down lower. the top of the higher box where he can lie down and stare at the dogs is the height of my shoulders so he can be high off the ground to avoid the dogs. We put some organic catnip leaves on it yesterday and he had a great time playing. It is so big that it barely fit into the back of our SUV to bring it home.......I love the image of you tucking the hens into bed at night

:flowerforyou: Buzz, take care in all that heat......I can tell the difference in my energy level when the temperature goes over 70.

:flowerforyou: everything is off the walls and all the holes are patched and painted over. We've packed almost everything that doesn't get used every day. We'll know by tomorrow what day the actual furniture move will take place
Jake has friends who have the muscle, trucks, and appliance dollies to get everything loaded and moved. We can handle the stuff that's in storage since we got it there ourselves......we have a zillion lists of what's to be done.......

:flowerforyou: Barbie, we will certainly understand if you are not here too often. You have so much to do. Be careful about lifting and overdoing it. I know that we are in better shape then previous generations, but we are still getting older. No stopping that !!

:flowerforyou: buzz, I have heard of fish tacos but have never tried them. I can just imagine the looks on my daughters' faces if I made them.

:flowerforyou: Jackie, that is quite funny...tucking your hens into bed.

:flowerforyou: Gayla, I had a nephew who would have seizures. He did out grow them evenually. It was scary though. I can remember the first time he had one at my house. My kids were terrified. Not, that they didn't know of his condition, it is just that they had never witnessed one before.

Have a great day, everyone !!

:flowerforyou: Susan, what are you doing for exercise? You need to build muscles to burn the fat and for a while those muscles will keep your weight steady before they go to work. I am hoping that you begin to see progress very soon.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, am I blind or what??? It comes with age, you know.

:flowerforyou: Monica, I will find you.

    Whew!!!

I read two pages of posts and thankful everyone is doing okay.

:flowerforyou: I hope you can get Neil to the doctor soon, it sounds like you need
help with him. I hope things get better for you.

:flowerforyou: I guess New Zealand must be in the winter season now. We are all
having heat waves and you curling by the fire.

We were at the boat this weekend getting it ready for the next trip to Toronto at one
of the sailing clubs. I washed the floor in the boat on Saturday and came up for
some breeze and I was soaked with sweat. Another hot weekend.
We did have rain Saturday night and it rained today. Getting a little cooler.
We will be leaving on Friday to sail across.

THANK YOU Marie for all the kind words about the group. You are a sweetie!!
I just enjoy reading what everyone is doing and what everyone is going through
on a day to day basis.

:flowerforyou: Jerri: I hope all goes well with your test.

My oldes daughter who is 30, just got back today from Costa Rica on a vacation at a Spa that
does cleansing. Her long term goal is going into the Holistic field and nutrition. She is
always watching how we eat and wants us to take care of ourselves. I can't wait to see her
    pictures.

    Have a great day everyone!!

Hi everyone,...just too hot to think so I'm not doing much of anything today. Went to our fitness center, and I could not stop perspiring heavily, so I think indoors, even with the A/C, it must have been very humid! Trying to get all my chores finished and going really slow! Spoke to my friend in Port Townsend and she said they finally got up to 75 degrees, so she didn't need her sweater! How lovely! SOunds like perfect weather to me! I think we'll go out for dinner, as I have nodesire or energy to prepare or cleanup! How's that for lazy???
GAYLA, you know we always wishing the best for you and Neil, even when it's not written!
    Gotta run...
