EPIC day yesterday (Saturday)...four hours of riding!0
-
120 very sweaty minutes of gorgeous trails today.0
-
In for Sunday, 1 hour 55 minutes...31.5 miles
Brownie point pics later tonight.0 -
7/10-In for 48 miles in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
Read a training forum yesterday and realized I needed to tweak my riding style so I was using the smaller gears so I was slower than usual but it was a lot less taxing so I will take that trade off.
Hope everyone had a great weekend on their bikes!0 -
Hawkeyegal--I am in Des Moines. Not riding RAGBRAI, although people try to talk us into it all the time!
So are you going to jump in on the day from Boone to Altoona? Or at least come and check out all of the fun. This is my first time riding the full route. I have ridden one or two days at a time the past few years. Fingers crossed I can handle this!0 -

Who rode today, 7/11?
Welcome, knoring!
Love the socks, CDgolden! I might have to take some feet photos! HAHAHA! If the new Garmin Edge 500 finally shows up, I'll take some photos (the iphone won't be busy playing imapmyride, then).

Keep up the good work, pals! And we are hoping those without bicycles can sort that out and get riding soon!

I took a day off . . . sort of. I cleaned house and took an hour-long walk, so at least I was moving.0
-
31 minutes for 7/11. I need to start stepping it up!0

In for Monday 11th, 2 hours 12 minutes....31 miles (half in the dark and rain)0

What do you guys ride?
Don't ask me how, but I ended up with two hybrids. A Trek and a Raleigh. I prefer the Trek, simply because the seat is more comfortable, plus it's more practical, but the Raleigh is probably the higher end of the two. I bought them both used. I am going to buy a road bike next summer.0 -
Who rode today, 7/12?
I'll be riding with my new Garmin Edge 500 in about an hour. ) And, a friend is coming to ride with me, which is awesome as I almost always have to ride alone. Mr. Wonderful is very fast (and in training) so we rarely ride together.

What do you guys ride?
What a loaded question...
Lately, I've been riding my 32 pound (we weighed it last night to enter into the new Garmin) Trek Hybrid 800 Sport, which I bought in 1999 or so. I might post a photo today if I can figure out how to post a photo and if I remember to take one.
I have two road bikes. I bought the first one in 2004 for my 40th birthday and did my first 40 mile ride on it. It's a Specialized Dolce.
A few years ago we stumbled onto a previous year's Bianchi Donna Bianca (or something like that) in 47cm (do you know how rare that is?) on sale, when we were out of town and stopped at a bike shop for something else, and bought it on the spot. That's my main road bike now because it's got Campagnolo gears and they shift like buttah.
But, lately I've been riding the Trek hybrid (my commuter bike) mainly because an old back injury has been acting up this summer and I'm more comfortable on the Trek which is more upright than the road bikes, of course. I've been riding urban neighborhoods mostly and that's better on the hybrid, too.
Of course, it means I'm SLOW. But now that I know how much the bike weighs, I'm not so upset at my slowness! 222 pound woman + 32 pound bike, well, if I can go over 10mph I'm working pretty darn hard.
For the record, I also have a 1960 Schwinn Cruiser that I never ride because my brain can't seem to handle coaster brakes anymore and it's very heavy and we live in a hilly place which makes having a one gear bike problematic. I bought this bike off a friend who actually got it for her 10th birthday in 1960 and still had it a few years ago.
We also have a Santana tandem, which we haven't been on in ages, mainly because of my back and because Mr. Wonderful is busy training on his road bikes. He's been racing well this year so we haven't interrupted his training for much leisurely riding.
And that's way more than you wanted to know, I'm sure.0 -
Hey Guys:
Mother Nature knocked my town for a big loop yesterday. We had a huge storm roll through and it did a lot of damage to my house-will need a new roof (including rafters) and my family room will need to be completely rebuilt as a whole tree came down on that room. We don't have power (at a work computer right now) and don't expect to for about a week. Needless to say, biking has fallen way down on my list of priorities so I am going to have to bow out of the challenge. Hopefully I will find some time to get on my bike to destress but with all the power lines down riding around town is dangerous. I don't know if i will be able to go on RAGBRAI given all the work that I am facing with my house.
I hope you all have a great time out on your bike.
Hawkeye0 -
Oh no, I am very sorry to read this, Hawkeyegal. I hope things get cleaned up and back to normal quickly for you and that you can ride RAGBRAI (though I am sure that's the least of your worries right now).0
-
Hawkeye, OMG, that's terrible!! I hope nobody was hurt!0

Who rode today, 7/12?
I'm so sorry Hawkeye! *HUG* Please keep us posted. We will be praying for y'all!
I rode 25 miles in 2.5 hours leisurely with a friend. The new garmin is cool. It, however, despite forcing me to enter my huge weight and the heavy weight of my bike and my height and age... said I only burned 377 calories. What is up with that?

I'm in for 7/12 -- 31 minutes, again. This is what I get for riding late in the evening! Bah.0

Thanks for the good wishes everyone--they were greatly appreciated! So I am kicking myself for saying I should drop out of the challenge yesterday--I need my time on the bike. So lets count Monday and Tuesday as my off days for the challenge.
I got out on my bike for about 50 minutes this morning-I have a 12 mile route around town but had to change it up quite a bit as there are still a lot of streets closed with trees down. Several times I had to get off the bike and walk over/under the power lines across the road. Getting out around town, I realize that while I had quite a bit of damage to my house it could have been a lot worse. And thankfully no one one in town was hurt (I was about 5 minutes from going out the door for my morning ride)! The weather service has said we had winds over 110 mph-that is just crazy.
Thanks again everyone!0 -
Who rode today, 7/13?
I'm so sorry Hawkeye! *HUG* We have lived in and have family and friends in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Many of our friends there said after the tornado, going on bike rides kept them sane, even when they had no home left to go to...
I rode a quick hour of neighborhood hilly laps as I have a 9am meeting this morning

July 12th...no miles but I did give my bike some good lovin' after work, washed and dried it, snugged up all the bolts, lubed up the cables and chain.
July 13th.... 31 miles.....another day of commuting....0 -
90 minutes today. Probably another hour later.0

Got in 35 minutes and 10 miles for 7/13.0

Who rode today, 7/14?
I rode 1.5 hours today with M, but her brake was messed up so we stopped to work on it and rode slow to deal with it, so I didn't get much of a workout. I ride harder alone but it's so nice to have someone to ride with some of the time!

Finally ventured out on my normal route in the country......it is a mess everywhere!0 -
Who rode today, 7/14?
I apologize if I'm slow updating the next few days. We'll be traveling and I'm officiating three sets of races on the weekend and Mr. Wonderful is racing. 1200 miles driving on Friday and Monday!
Be careful out there!
