    Who rode today, 7/19?

    Welcome, TDSeest!

I rode just over an hour and a half in the heat. I didn't go that hard (11mph for a fat gal on a heavy bike) but I'm tired.

I haven't been keeping up with miles because I figured it would just depress me (I remember when 40 miles was nothing... now it's scary).

I hope your feet are alright, TeteDeLaCourse!

    Be careful out there!

30 minutes for 7/19. I would have done more, but my Zumba classes started up again, today. Having been without for two weeks, an hour of it totally kicked my butt, today.

    Who rode today, 7/20?

    Welcome, TDSeest!

I rode only 50 minutes, but it was very hard. I did my neighborhood hilly loop three times and did it in 4 minutes less than my fastest previous time. Not bad for a day on which I feel like crap.

I hope your feet are alright, TeteDeLaCourse!

  • I don't ride anything close to 100 miles per day! I do ride at least 10-15 miles per day. I own a hybrid with 38mm wide tires, slower than the pro- bikes, but it keeps my heart pumpin'. If it rains I use a recumbant bke. Since I don't have a cheering crowd that offers drinks, I wear a hydration backpack.

    Hi grandpa!

I wear a cambelbak when I'm riding longer than an hour or so since my bike only has room for one bottle cage (I'm very short and small frames can't handle two bottles). I love my camelbak. I put ice in it and the water stays cold for hours.

Our challenge is just to ride 30 minutes (or more) each day. 100 miles isn't needed! We can't all be Tour de France racers, of course.

Well with not being in my bike for a week, I am out of the "Tour" but will still ride the rest of the course.

Wed. 20th....5 mile, 35 minute townie ride, just rolling around ...with a 31 miles commute later today for work.

    Hey gang!

7/20--another easy day with 12 miles in about 60 minutes around town.

I was getting ready to ride tonight and my knee popped and buckled so I am vegging on the couch with some ice right now - after 5 knee surgeries this is nothing new but with less than 3 days till the ride I am not going to press my luck!

I got in my 30 minutes for 7/20 -- barely! Started at 10:10 and went until 10:40. My legs are still sore from yesterday's Zumba class (first day back) and bike ride. Last night I had KILLER calf cramps in my left leg, so I'm sore from that as well. Definitely took tonight's ride easy at 12 mph (on bike trainer). Broke a little bit of a sweat and my heart rate only made it as high as 122. Guess I'm stuck with that until my body recovers a bit.

I did not ride today. The dentist took 2 hours this morning and it was too late and too hot to ride by the time I got home. Grrr. I did swim, though. Swimming in 105 degree weather isn't as bad as biking. I still might bike before bed, but the temps got to get below 95 first... which might not happen. Maybe I can talk my husband into setting up my road bike on the trainer in the living room in front of the TV while I watch the Tour...

7/21- in for 90 minutes covering about 23 miles. Knee didn't feel too bad unless I was trying to muscle up a hill rather than gearing or dancing it.

I would be up for another challenge....might help to keep me on my bike after RAGBRAI when the miles tend to really drop off.

Hope everyone stays cool and safe!

    Who rode today, 7/22?

218.75 pound woman on 32 pound bike in heatwave riding for 2 hours+ (22 miles in neighborhoods). Not smart. Just about over come by heat. Got home and barely made it into the house, only to find Mr. Wonderful sitting in the shower looking like death warmed over (he did his own, much farther, much faster ride). I just stood there unable to speak. He looked up and croaked,"You look like I feel." I climbed in and we had a cold shower until we felt slightly more clear-headed. Yuck. I'm so over the heat. I cut the ride a few miles short because I thought I was getting overheated and confused (I was right).

Be careful out there! It's way too hot.

  • I rode yesterday AND today! I went early today, learned my lesson from yesterday. Want to see what cycling has done for me? The gray t-shirt on the right is one of my favorites from last year. I still wear it to sleep in sometimes. The clothes on the right are my cycling clothes that I wear now. "One of these things is not like the others..."

7/22- did a ride around town for about 12 miles in 52 minutes.

I load up tomorrow morning to head west for the big ride. I have 454 miles ahead of me next week (give or take depending on where I meet up with my sag crew). So fingers crossed everyone for nice cool and dry weather (and right now that is the forecast).
