    Question for my Purple teammates. Do any of you see a difference in the number of calories burned between what's on the website and what shows on the actual machine? I've been going at least 45 minutes on the elliptical at my gym, but the calories burned shows way lower than what the website says. Do I use the calculation from the website or the machine? Is the website's calculation based on your current stats?

    Good morning.

    ~Seraph1120~ MFP bases your calorie burn on your age, height and weight. Gym machines are off, but just by a little. Quick Start readings are based on a 150 lb person, machine doesn't know if you are overweight or not. You can use the age and weight settings on the elliptical, but, IMO it's better to use the heart rate grips several times throughout your workout to see if you are reaching your target heart rate. That reading can also be off by a few points, but will give you greater insight to what you may actually be burning caloriewise. Also, please consider the effort you are putting in to your exercise.

    I actually GAINED 0.3lbs.. Here's hoping it's just muscle, my clothes aren't feeling any looser yet and i've been doing this for 3-4 weeks now, exercising at the gym, 30DS and TRYING to eat as well as I can without totally restricting myself to the point of misery

    So far this plan to lose 20lbs before Oct 1 isn't working at ALL. :/

    Looks like i'll have to just start eating salads with grilled chicken on them forever

    Well, the scales don't lie - I stayed the same 164# - no loss - but I have no one to blame but & those D@#N Klondike bars I ate.
    Good thing I was burning those challange calories every day......Just think - next week is going to be sooooo much better.....;oD

    I was down 3.4 pounds this week!! Despite selling my house (major stressor) and not getting all of my exercise in! Worked really hard not to feed my stress - one of my major downfalls!! Go Team Purple!!

    Thursday: 146 :( had a headache yesterday

    Friday: need to burn 760 calories today to meet 2500 goal.

    Weigh in today and I have no scale, maybe I can find one opened at wal mart lol

    Down almost a pound, .8 to be exact. Haven't made the calorie burn each day. Been dealing with vertigo for the past 2 weeks and finally went to the doc yesterday. Hoping my PT appointment today helps out. But with keeping my meals in check, I am happ yto be at a loss!!

    I only started with MFP on Monday (well, officially on Tuesday because I signed up on Monday night) and I'm already down 3.5 lbs and have burned 2,682 calories! I can't wait to see what happens next week when I actually have 7 days' worth of data. :) Having to log my every bite has really kept me accountable!!

  • Yeah Team Purple! My name's missing but no loss yet. Lots of calories burned though. Crossing my fingers that it'll show up for next weeks weigh in.
  • I had a fantastic week, the extra calories burned to get the 500 a day have helped me out big time, my weight on Monday was 270 today I am so proud of myself I weighed in at 265, YAY me!! I finally feel like I can really do this! Oh and my Calories so far this week are 2004 over the last 4.5 days.

    Hiya. Here's the deal so far - not quite making the 500 a day, but this is excellent for me (I currently have a sports injury) so thanks for making the challenge and providing me with the motivation.

    SW = 157.8
    8/1 Mon - 337 burned
    8/2 Tues - 302 burned
    8/3 Wed - 438 burned
    8/4 Thurs - 733 burned
    Total burned so far = 1,810
    Friday's weight = 156.8, I lost a pound!

    I'm still not on the list either...

    I had a 7lb loss on the scale today - which equaled around 5lbs after the 2lb gain I had last week....

    my burn is sitting at 2565 so far this week! woot!!:smile:

    looks like everyone is kicking some butt!!! I only lost a pd this week so I am at 208 but I have burned 2151 and I haven't logged today well cause I haven't done anything except chase kids. Feel free to friend request if we aren't already friends.

    ~whatshesaid~ DON'T give up! I gained last month from exercise, muscles holding fluid. I had a lot going on wrong. I was also dehydrated and had to increase my water intake to 80+ ounces a day and I wasn't eating my exercise calories back, so I was deep into starvation mode. It took 3 weeks for me to lose 0.4 lbs and I was happy to see that. So press on, it will happen.

    How is your water intake? Sometimes when I dont drink enough water and I'm working out like crazy, my body soaks it up like a sponge and doesn't want to let it go. Lol

    Didn't lose any weight after all that hard work :grumble: But I did lose 1/2 inch in my waist which makes 1 inch total in 2 weeks. And that is really the most important thing. I could actually zip up my jeans. Still tight but at least wearable....standing up :tongue:

NSV: two NEW pairs of capris that I bought for a Vegas trip in 2 weeks are too BIG! :tongue:

    Thats great! Its such a good feeling when your clothes dont fit cause they are TOO SMALL...lol Good for you, you might have not lost any pounds but thats proof that inches are disappearing...nice.
