Good reasoning Lisa- but you might well be very surprised when you do your next run and it might go absolutely smoothly. For some reason there are just days when you know right from the get go that it is going to be a harder than usual day and try as you might the endurance is just not there. Do you run with music? Music helps me incredibly but unfortunately can't remedy those really challenging days as described. If you find your next attempt as challenging then I would just keep repeating that day while your endurance picks up and once achieved continue from there.

I love your great attitude of not letting it beat you. You might have to come up with a positive mantra ( used loosely) to replace the thought of heavy legs. Keep running - you will overcome this small dint in the road quickly- and forge forward even stronger!!

Lisa- as I hit the button to post the last message I had another thought. Perhaps you should consider not going above the recommended running as you might be overtaxing yourself and causing additional fatigue in your legs, muscles and generally. I remember early in the course I was doing additional running after a session and my youngest daughter (who happens to be a bit of a fitness buff )cautioned me against additional running and said stick with the program as it is purposefully designed to allow your body adequate challenges and recovery - so she said to not put it out of balance. She then said to walk however much I wanted - as I had always walked a lot , but just not to run.
Or.......it just might have been one of those days!

Well done Silentspring-- you are doing a great job!!

Oops and forgot to say that I did W8D2 last night and managed to run 3.88K- so improving on my distance but still obviously need to work on my speed- but doing that and keeping my heart rate under 150( the maximum for a 55 year old) is a challenge- but it is improving.

Keep up the great work everyone!

I just finished week 8 completely and find it hard to realise that I move onto week 9 next week. Wow- where did those weeks go?

    Keep up the great work

W9D1 finished - Yay - so first ever time I have run 30 full minutes. I need to focus on speed and running the full distance- but not up to it today as the weather was really warm and it made it very difficult. In that we are about to move into summer - it might prove to be a fair bit of a challenge.

Well done Debbie.... you are there!!

I haven't run since friday.... had a huge day in the garden on saturday and then on sunday got my period (after 10 months I thought I was finally in the clear!!).... it has really affected me over the past few days.... not up to exercise and feeling very grouchy.

I have just woken up and I feel a bit better so i am hoping to get to the gym today.... but I think I will just start back on W6D1.... I think you are right about just doing what the program says as well..... I was always doing several extra runs at the end thinking that it was a good thing but I suspect that it made it harder on my body in the long run..... so I will just start back at W6 and hope I can get through it.....

We then go away next week and I won't be running in a gym.... but we will be right on the beach so I will have a go at running on the sand..... not sure how I'll go.

Back from gym..... W6D1 done again.

I didn't do any extra running but I did keep walking to get to 5K in total.... took 47 minutes.... but I feel good..... I ran fine as well.... so I'll just walk tomorrow and then do D2 on friday.... I still think I might just stay a while on week 6 though.

Have a good day everyone, Lisa
  • Did Week 6 Day 2 yesterday....gonna try and get up tomorrow morning and run Day 3.

I did w6d3 today! I tried to do it 2 days ago and my hips were hurting so bad I had to stop after 4 mins. So I was very nervous about doing it this morning but it went really well! I ran for 25 mins straight!!! I never thought those words would come out of my mouth! I still don't love running but I do feel like I have come a long way and am proud of myself for sticking with it.

I did W7D1 today and it was suprisingly easy. I just put on the ipod and promised myself that I would neither look at the clock or stop running until after 8 songs played. Well the timer went off during song 7! I felt like I had at least 10 more minutes in me but my thighs have been crazy sore this week so I stopped. I actually can not wait for Saturday and Day 2!

Congratulations everyone for your great progress.

Just wanting to say that this evening I DID MY FINAL DAY OF C25K - SO HAVE OFFICIALLY GRADUATED !!!!!!!!!!!Woohoo
Thanks for all of the fabulous support along the way and I wish everyone the best of luck in completing the program. I am so pleased with myself and can't believe that at 55 I managed to actually do this. It is a fabulous program that gradually builds up as your endurance builds- I honestly thought that I would never manage it - until I managed that first 20 minute run - then I knew it was doable.
Keep running people - it is worth it.

    Awesome Job!!!
  • Doing Week 7 Day 2 tonight....

Yesterday I decided to go on a run just to see how I would do. My goal was to get to 2 miles without stopping. That was a big test for me. But.......I was able to accomplish it. I didn't time myself because I wasn't worried about how fast I could but more worried about completing. It felt great!!

Sounds like everyone is doing a fantastic job with their training. Keep up the good work during the holidays!

I'm planning on doing a 2.8 mile adventure race this spring/summer in central PA. I've done two 5Ks prior, but now I'm upping the ante and doing strength training another 5K training program to make sure I'm fit enough for it.

I've decided for the strength portion to use the Spartain Virgin weightlifting training guide. I've been doing it for two weeks already and already feel toned, regardless of the Thanksgiving feast!:-D

Finished week 7 this morning. It was a hard week and I am sure next week will be harder. Only 10 more days until my first 5K which by then I will only have completed W9D1 so I really hope I will be ready!! I am telling myself that if I have to walk some of it that won't be the worst thing in the world but I am def going to try to run the whole thing.
  • Did Week 7 Day 2 yesterday. Was able to do an extra run on Tuesday and ran a whole 2 miles without stopping. I'm not focused on time right now....just distance. I felt awesome about it!!
  • Hi All

I finished Week 7 day 2 yesterday. My legs feel really heavy when I'm running but the rest of me is fine. I'm really enjoying it and am on track to finish Sunday 18 December as planned. (9 weeks from starting on Monday 16th October, i think the initial calculation was out)

On monday 19th I am going on a 4 day hike in the mountains of mordor here in New Zealand. I will be walking 17km a day with a full pack, looking forward to that.

Then I will look at the Ease to 10k programme... :)

Keep up the great work, it's worth it!

    Where is everyone?
  • Doing Week 8 Day 2 tonight. I'm feeling pretty good about it so far.
  • I did week 8 day 2 yesterday, it was much easier than i thought it would be, probably the easiest run so far, and definitely the furtherest. Keep going everyone, not far to the finish line now :)

I have one more run left for tonight- YAY! i'm excited to be done and to have accomplished something!
  • Started the last week last night, I honestly can't believe that I've made it this far. I can't wait for the 45 min run and the 60 min run.

I ran my first 5K yesterday!! Finished in 33:28 and ran the whole time!! I am counting that as W9D2 and so I technically have one day left until I officially "graduate" from the C25K program. I was going to just consider it completed since I ran the 5K but I kind of feel like that is cheating so I will go ahead and do the last day tomorrow or the next day just so I can say I finished it. Then it's on to Bridge to 10K for me!!

Hope everyone else is doing well and finishing up!
  • Well done everyone who has stuck with it and has made it/almost made it! It feels great doesn't it?! I have just done W9D1 the timed run is 30mins and this is the longest it gets. I ran 4.34k in the 30mins today so will hopefully get to 5k by the end of the week. I am planning to improve my 5k time using the run double app 5k improver during the weeks, and build up to a 10k on the weekends. What are y'all going to do when you're done??
    Again, nice work ladies!
    xx ss
