I don't have a dog, but opened this thread because I LOVE dogs and would love to have one in the next few years.
My question for you all, and I hope this isn't TMI and that I can get an honest answer here.. If you have a dog and live with your significant other, how does it effect your love life? I mean that generally and ALSO in the bedroom.. do you still get ALONE time as much as you need it?
Hasn't affected it at all really.
Sometimes when we hug he'll start barking, but that's easily dealt with by either letting him have a cuddle too, or telling him to lie down - he does as he's told with that Also, if my partner and I are sitting together on the sofa, and one of us gets up for something, he'll jump straight up next to you and nick the seat, but when you tell him "off", he get's off with that sad little look on his face lol
With the bedroom, he's not allowed upstairs, and is crate trained so if we went upstairs he would go in his crate. I can leave him out of it to go upstairs for a couple of minutes, telling him to stay and he will do as he's told. But if I'm up there for longer than a few minutes he will charge up the stairs, and jump around all over the bed, especially if he hears anything going on He's still one crazy over-excited puppy lol This is why crate training is useful for us.
Basically, they like attention and interaction but trained well are obedient and generally do as they're told, so if you wanted alone time there are definitely ways to get it just as easily as without one
The only downside is if you wanted alone time away from the home, such as a hotel or weekend break, you have to arrange care for the dog in the time you're away. I realise you probably know that, but that for me is really the only issue you have with getting one. That, and the initial training stage.0 -

Heidi, thank you so much for your great answer :-)0 -
Anyone who is friends with me here know how much I love my little boston terrier Lou. I love him because he makes me laugh every day and will cuddle with me whenever I want.

I love my dog Greta. She is tenacious, stoic, and fearless. She can always put a smile on my face. She is a mischievous little girl, but that is what I love about her. There are days where she makes me pull my hair out. Especially when she steals things like socks, pants, towels, and shoes. And how can you not love a dog that looks like Toto?

My pup Scooter is like one of the family, I don't know how our household functioned without him. He is so loyal and lovey, it's hard to be mad at him at times. He's a 4 (almost 5) year old black cockapoo and his name varies all the time, Scoot , Scootie, but scooter, scootie poo is what I usually call him. We rescued him from a humane society in Maryland and his fir was so matted and he was so skinny and shakey , the drive home was tough , but my 9 year old just hugged him tight and let him know that everything was going to be okay. I had found him online and when I saw him I knew we had to go save him, now my little one thinks that she picked him out ( we just go along with it ) She says .... I looked in his eyes and he looked in mine and it was love at first sight!!!0

I love my dog Milo b/c he's the cutest Westie ever!!! He has such a great loving personality, we couldn't ask for a better pup!! When people talk about dogs choosing them, it's sooo true!!! He chose us... Came right up to us and sat in between my husband’s feet... We got him when he was 8 weeks old.. I really couldn't imagine our life without him... He's our fur baby!!! He's a West Highland Terrier.. The same as the Caesar dog food dog... I hope you can see these pics...
**I apologize that the pics are sooo big!! LOL

He is my joy!! My Teagan is so smart, funny and adorable.
I can't figure out how to attach pictures. He is a chocolate and silver cockapoo. With chocolate brown eyes that melts my soul.0 -
I love my dog so much! I love how even though she's 11, she still acts like a puppy. I love how she's always happy to see me, how she is super smart and has us trained. I love how she's so good at communicating to us exactly what she wants. I love her eyes and how expressive they are, I love how she walks around and checks on us during the day--she comes in my room, looks at me, then leaves and proceeds to the next room until she finds us all I love so much more about her but I could go on for hours LOL! I also love how she's afraid of my little hedgehog, but she's always really gentle. I love how she puts her paw on my hand or my foot when I'm sitting. I love how she loves being worshiped and getting all the attention! I love my dog!0 -
just look at how well she disappears in her camouflage bed!
AW that's cute VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV0 -
My puppy just turned 2. He is a lab/pit mix and I luv luv luv him. He is such a big dork he fits into my family perfectly! I adopted him from the humane society he was apart of a program out here where hard to place dogs go to prison - yes actual prison - and are trained by inmates to have basic obedience and some agility and tricks. Inmates are doing something productive and doggies get homes. It's a win-win. The thing I love most about him is how excited he gets when I bring a new toy home or give him a treat. He FREAKS out! It's adorable!0

Because she's adorable and super lady like. Also, because she ADORES our son.
P.S. First time posting pictures, and what I see on my screen vs. what I found in the "how to post pictures" thread is NOT the same, even though I'm following the directions word for word....we'll see what happens.0 -

^^ Thank you! I figured out what I was doing wrong on my 3rd try. By the way....the "how to post pictures" thread says to copy the direct link....and that totally didn't work. I had to copy the image code (and then fix that too). Maybe that thread should be re-done??0

First time posting pictures hope it works
How could you not LOVE this!!! :smooched:
Edit: Whoa sorry it's so huge!0 -
My dog is the most loyal being in my Life, dont no what i would do without her
please don't refer to as this! lol...hahahaha!!!!!0 -
my 55 pound golden retriever mix thinks she's a 5 pound lap dog.
So it's not just my dog! My baby boy is 65 pounds but thinks he is tiny enough to sit on laps too!
My 50 pound black lab is the SAME!!!!!!!!!....Plus she takes up a lot of my bed when she decides to sleep with me and then looks at my like Im in HER way when I make her move over a lil
I have a 65 lb. black lab and she does it too! She gets up on the couch like she owns it and has just as much right to be there as me.
I love her because she's always happy to see me and so grateful. I know she's totally in tune with my emotions- if I'm feeling sad or bummed, she'll spend extra time with me and lick my face rather than playing with her toys.
Now that it's getting cold we've been lighting fires at night. I lay on the floor by the fireplace and she curls up right next to me.
I also love her because she motivates me not to be lazy! Last night she started chewing my running shoe a bit, I think she's trying to tell me something...0 -
